I had to deal with this in Florida. Picked up a 53’ trailer in Houston and had to stretch the tandem axles all the way back in order to get the axle weights legal which was fine in TX, LA, MS and AL. After passing the scale (Pascagoula or Mobile, I forgot), I had to stop and move the tandems forward in order to comply with FL bridge law. I don’t know about California but Florida allows up to 40,000 lbs. on the tandems so long as you are not over gross. Load went all the way down to Miami and every scale was open and every scale pulled me in to double check the weights but no tickets so everything worked out. Drives were light so it could’ve been loaded better!
How do you weigh a Pick Up Truck there. California DMv Requires it for New Vehicles from out of state. But the machine is too high , you have to get a ladder or stand on top of your truck
They have a dmv registration scale ticket at the cat scale. You park on the scale get the weight and then you go in with your vin number and they fill out a form with your weights
DOT scales will often give a couple hundred pounds leeway for scale error. That Truckee scale has pulled me in for inspections a couple of times but I've never had any issues, always passed and got the CVSA sticker.
They give leeway as long as you’re under 80k gross and they have apu exemptions/ fuel exemptions all depends on the mood. And I’ve always passsd here too but I don’t blame them for this it happens
Hey not too sure but isn’t California not accepting any 2000 and older trucks? I always that in the back of my mind on how you doing it 😂. Love the videos!
Shippers often max out reefer loads. Especially if you are hauling French fries! #1 rule is ALWAYS FUEL UP BEFORE YOU LOAD!!! They often put you on a scale to check your rare weight and adjust your load accordingly. So long as you are not over gross, they could give a rat’s butt about anything else. I mainly haul dry vans now and a “heavy” load for me is a little over 30,000.
Great tutorial on how to slide your fifth wheel and scale you’re load.

Make sure you don't slide it too far forward or your tractor mudflaps will hit your landing gear when you turn.
That’s true too but. Not on this truck with a 53 foot. It will only hit with ups/FedEx pups
How you go to Cali with a pre emissions truck?

Nice work man 👍
California also hates spread axles on 53ft trailers
That truckee scale has ruined my day several times. They have a hard on for inspections
I'm new 2 Trucking in America 🇺🇸.. & I have a ques.. should u stop at every scale along ur way while driving 2 ur destination??? Empty & loaded???
Yes. If they are open.
What happened with the level one?

What the total weight of your load over 46k?
It was around 46 little over. which is the most I’ve ever put in this truck.
It's really simple DONT HAUL LOADS OVER 30K YOU AIN'T GETTING PAID ANY EXTRA TO HAUL THAT 45K LOAD I seldom HAUL over 20k
brian dodgen, what do you haul?
How do you not haul anything over 30 k in a van or reefer ?

What’s the weight on just the truck?
Like 18k or so
Stop hauling when they aren’t loading you correct. Those over weight tickets are no joke my guy.
40' bridge 34000 tamdem 12 steer simple.
How are you
I’m confused aren’t u technically still over weight 180??
Yeah still under gross weight. So they are usually lenient with like 200 pounds or so
Good to know! Thank you!
