That was awesome the way he honored him and his family there in Dallas. Ricky was a good dude man. I still think he could have been one of the all time greats if hed wanted to. He certainly gave it everything he had in college and i think making it to the nfl was all he really wanted to do. After that he had nothing to really strive for. Stories like Williams and his relationship with Doak Walker along with his tribute to him do not get the coverage they deserve. Our media seems to much more inclined to seek out the negative stories rather than ones like this that are fine examples of the goodness of man.
Exactly. That was incredible examples of both men. They were able to recognize each other's greatness and see past eras. Then the way Ricky honored him and his family after he passed away was amazing.
It wasn't just blacks. They'd tell white guys the same. The idea of all American boys were clean cut. Even in the 80s when long hair was common, they wanted people to keep their hair short.

@knightfd yep. Like 66 tds and 8 reception tds too. Not bad at all. 2002 he rushed for over 1800 yards and 16 tds. That was his first season with the dolphins.

At the end Joe Namath later the NY Jets Super Bowl winning QB tried a sneak to get a first down and keep their drive alive to score, but All American middle line backer Tommy Nobis stopped Namath short. The Longhorns took over and won 21 to 17. Horns were the Jan 1st, 1965 Orange Bowl Champs over #1 Alabama. In those days, the Orange Bowl was almost like the Rose Bowl.
