How can you not admire Ricky Williams? Here's a man who could have gone down as one of the best all time but decided his health and happiness were more important. I'm 30 and couldn't believe now, looking back, that he was as successful with such a lackluster team around him. He was ahead of his time but his voice has certainly shaped acceptance (in some eyes) and has allowed players to be more vocal on certain topics. Thanks again #34!
@@kingarchnyc you're looking at it in the context of right v wrong, I'm more so looking at it from a popular v unpopular decision. He made the unpopular decision but ultimately the decision that was best for him. I do believe his story is worth the watch/familiarity for young adults - not so they can follow, but learn that one needs to do what's best for them regardless of the critics.
Well said. Ricky is an example of a person who is happy with who he really is and has passion in whatever he may be doing in his life at any particular moment in time. He lives life his way and does not hold back his feelings or his beliefs. In my opinion he is a Hall of Famer. That would be an honor for Ricky yet I am certain he does not think about much these days since he keeps his mind occupied...The advice Bill Parcells texted him is very true. Be humble in this life, be yourself and never change or do things according to what others may think you should do. Ricky Williams is a good man that would be first to admit he is not perfect. None of are perfect but we can all strive to be our best self each day. I wish you all the best in whatever our future may bring us all in such uncertain times. Smile more, say hello to those you pass by, and refrain from picking sides by trying to understand all sides and engage in calm conversation with others to find things you have in common with others. That would be a positive step along with turning off the television.
Ricky said he was genuinely happy for the Ravens winning the Super-bowl and did not feel one ounce of regret. When he said that, I felt he lived such a whole life, which made his transition so smooth. Many of us live a one dimensional life when we’re capable of so much more. After watching this documentary and, RUN RICKY RUN, I feel such a genuine gladness for him, and inspiration from him. I also see how fans are mostly one dimensional and closed minded. Fans profess “love” & “adoration” for athletes, until they don’t do what we think they should do ... then we hate and try to scorn them to shame. The masses are always wrong, and that’s probably because strong judgements are made on such little information and shallow feelings.
I'm a conservative dude..but tbh I don't give a damn that he smoked pot. You can tell Ricky is a genuine dude. Great ball player, and an example to look up to in terms of living a fulfilled life of both success and enjoyment. Loved him on my Ravens..wish he got a ring with Baltimore

Ricky Williams will forever be one of my favorite football players. I love this dude. What impresses me the most is, nowhere do I get football was about money to him. He just wanted to have fun.
I'm just glad it didn't ruin his life especially since it wasn't even about "drugs" or money, it was about having a purpose, something that actually made him happy.
It's also insane that they'd rather have their athletes popping pills than making themselves feel better and maybe opening themselves to different culturally enriching experiences. It's like they want them to be braindead even though they're are hundreds of nfl players that are very smart and surely would appreciate an experience like the one Ricky had.
Ricky is the Goat. He was one of the greatest backs in his era. He was a trailblazer in not letting the norm affect his decisions in his life. Now players retire early because of the punishment they take. Ricky just needed time he saw the writing on the wall for being a running back. Glad he came back and showed he was still a great player. Wish he got a ring cause he deserved one.
I remember when Miami got him. I lived down in Florida at the time and was able to watch all the Dolphin games. Ricky led the league in rushing and terrorized the NFL. The man was a machine.
stonebrooks 12 he did people plz he said he turned down a contract that would’ve made him the highest paid rookie because so people won’t say he’s that rookie that got paid to much .

Short sighted thinking. The games would have been called differently if Ricky had played, which could have resulted in the Ravens not making the Superbowl, possibly not even the playoffs. A great player doesn't make a winning team, team of great team players does.
@@jordanbabcock9349 The 2012 Ravens team was loaded with great players. They had been to the AFC Championship game the year before with Ricky on the team and lost on a 32 yard field goal miss. I'm not really sure how much thought you put into this ostensibly "thoughtful" response. "The games would have been called differently"? The Ravens would have had Ricky Williams and Bernard Pierce as their #2 RB options. Was Bernard Pierce really the guy who put that 2012 Ravens team over the top? That seems like a pretty ridiculous take to me.
I'm proud of him, I always was a fan and he made me a proud Miami fan. Seeing him talk to crowds of people and him saying he's good with who he is makes me smile bc Ricky Williams knows who he is and what he wanted. I still want his jersey and he's still the best to me
Man, San Diego (my hometown) has put out some monster RBs (Davis, Williams, Bush, Allen). Patrick Henry is probably 10 minutes from my parent's house and we played the Patriots every year in football. This dude put up more than 10,000 yards as it was. Imagine if he hadn't taken a year off, hadn't had to serve a four game suspension, hadn't been suspended for a year, or hadn't gotten hurt after coming back. He's at #31 on the rushing list right now. Probably could've been top 10 all time. Very happy for him that he is so at peace with his retirement and leaving behind the game. Even after seeing the team he was on win a Super Bowl the season after he left, it didn't bother him one bit. Not many guys would share that sentiment. That is a man who understands that his life and how he is defined is more than just a game.
I'm a San Diegan myself. Everyone around here loves Ricky Willoams & qppreciates him for what he did not only in highscho ol but in life. It was like sitting with a friend you haven't seen in ever but picking up right where you left off. The other times I've seen him, he remembered who I was.

It's easy for the public to disregard how PUNISHING the game of football is, particularly to running backs... Look at Earl Campbell... Crippled and pain ridden forever by the game. Ricky was explosive and exhilariting to watch... He's simply a horse of different color that has many other interests (that benefit the welfare of others) outside of football. As a dolphins fan I love them when he was here in Miami I'm happy that he's doing good
He’s the best college RB I’ve seen. The part documenting his time at Texas is moving, especially the choir singing over his highlights.
Thanks for uploading the video. Ricky always kept it real. he never let the media or public opinion influence him. He always stay trued to himself
A man of depth. To this day, his story is still being written..
Ricky was way ahead of his time, weed is helpful to a beat up, hurt athlete and who happens to have anxiety problem.
@Earl James Won't disagree with that. Didn't have a competitors makeup even without weed.
We Loved and still Love Rickey down here in New Orleans. A Saint in our Hearts for Life.
I wish Bill Parcells had waited one more year to advise Ricky that maybe there's something else you would like to do. He deserved the Super Bowl, but I guess we all do. He was a beast, sometimes it look like a man amongst boys.
talk about an ill-fated text.
I wish miami got aqb to help him and we would of
I love Ricky Williams! He was my favorite Dolphin player ever!
dude was genuinely on another skill planet
Ricky man.... humble and hungry for success
One of the most inspiring stories i ever seen in my life💪👑 ....i always wondered what happend 2 him now with social i get it 👌
lol my dad helped mike open his restaurant in Chicago... dont know much about football but just found out about ricky from a podcast he did. Man want a stand up guy and a great athlete!
He’s truly happy! 😀 this is so dope
Incredible story...i can truly say Ricky was worth everything the new Orleans saints gave up for him. New Orleans just never understood him
1,853 yards and 17tds ....I just had to post that so you could see how much that really is
100 yards average and 1 td a game not bad
17tds & 2216 all purpose yards, BEAST!
Yet the man still isn’t in madden ultimate team every year 🙄
@@connormarrell2275 Madden is a trash game anyway
@@connormarrell2275 madden has to ask Ricky if Ricky declines then he won’t be in the game
This video turned out to be very inspiring. This is 100% a success story in my book.
Master p did the sport agents first before jay z I never knew that
amazing athlete , and by far the only player I know who made all the right choices , and continues to make the right choices to this day ..
Can you imagine a prime Dan Marino and a prime Ricky Williams on the same team? My God with the greatest pure passer and the greatest pure runner playing together, Miami would've been a dynasty with multiple rings each
true
Added with one hell of a defense with Madison and surtain at corner Thomas at linebacker Bowens at DT and Jason Taylor at defensive end
