You didn't see Arch implode in the face of good to great defense. His last few high school games were disasters as he turned the ball over numerous times and forced throws in well-covered receivers. He is not ready at this stage. As slow, weak, and fragile as Quinn is, he is the QB of Texas. It's all about the O-line for Texas and their defense. Texas better be ready for trick plays from Clemson.
Ewers is a surgeon in the short and intermediate passing game but his mobility, pocket presence, and deep ball are very underwhelming for a three year starter. I think a strong argument can be made that Ewers has wasted a talented roster this season. Texas isn’t where it is without Ewers but the ceiling for this team is set by Ewers’ limitations and shortcomings.
@givem110 True. He can push the ball and has at times but it's the weakest part of his game. He a below average deep ball QB and has shown no growth in this area in his three years under Sark. He is who he is and his strengths have rebuilt the program but he may have slammed into his ceiling.
@tedbosquez19 the problem with calling a guy a 5 star can't miss QB as a junior in high school coming out is they may stop growing like him. He's the QB that brought Texas back after 14 years but against an elite defense like Georgia his limits were showing.
Continue with Quinn. Quinn has been hurt for large parts of the year. When he is able to move around in the pocket or rollout and throw like he did against Michigan he’s healthy. When he’s not doing that, it’s a clear sign that he’s hurt. But he seems to be feeling better now so I think he’ll have a big game. I think you still have to mix in Arch but continue to start Quinn.
I think we missed our chance to have Arch ready and developing game by game earlier in the season. He needed more games under his belt. Unfortunately, I think Quinn’s ankle and oblique is really hindering him from throwing tight ropes in the redzone.
@ it’s hard to tell. I watched the ULM game in person and he looked pretty good. And if anyone knows how to develop, it’s the Mannings. I trust Sark. Arch should’ve played more later in the season, I think the only reason he didn’t get pulled in the Kentucky game is because it was Quinn’s senior game.
We would be 8-4 if our defense was just “good enough” like we had expected going into the season. We are 11-2 because of a generational Texas defense and an easy schedule.
This game reminds me of 2019 OSU and Clemson and Clemson was a 10 point underdog . NOBODY gave Clemson a chance then either and they won 31-0 . "OSUs offense will just be too much for Clemson" , Clemson wont be able to out score them" . I think they surprise people .
Start Quinn in the first half, when the O line is indomitable and Sark’s game plan is extremely difficult to stop. But in the second half Quinn is a train wreck, so start Arch in the second half. The entire second half. Worked for Georgia with a lesser backup QB.
Everybody always wants the 'flashy new thing'. Quinn Ewers has got them there. He was in consideration for the Heisman. He's been pretty dadgum good against Top 25 teams with a 63.9% completion rating and over 1500 yds. In the postseason he is 2,665 yds, 25 TDs/9INTS and a QBR of 71.3. He has earned the start.
Nah. Why would we play arch? It's not like we would enjoy a qb that can move in the pocket, can get huge chunks of yds with his feet, has great leadership skills, and can throw an accurate ball past 15 yards. Why on earth would we want that? Trust our "genius" coach folks. Who doesn’t love an innacurate, aloof statue who sacks himself? Crazy talk.
I still can't figure out why Arch went to TX and sat behind Ewers or anyone else when he could have gone anywhere and had a year or two under his belt......he must have thought Sark was the wizard of oz. Sheesh, ain't nobody gonna figure that one out.
His family is comfortable. Arch knows he's getting paid either way. He loves Texas and loves Austin. He will have 2 to 3 years to be the starter on a program that is just hitting its stride.
Well he’s going to have a top 5 returning team with the number 1 recruits in the nation while studying under a 3 year starter and being a part of a national championship contending team. Not to mention he’s making 3.5 million per year and has zero pressure to rush his collegiate career. After you read this I hope you understand how stupid you sound.
I’ve been saying this for years. We lost the semi finals to Washington last year because instead of a bullet pass to Mitchell, Quinn threw up a rainbow and it got swatted.
CTE. It must be after listening to this again. Here are the "last few games" of a few playoff QB's that don't deserve to be benched. Rourke: 67-106 for 886 and a whopping 68 yards against TOSU. Leonard: 63-95 732 Howard: 77-109 883 Ewers: 84-131 943 Gabriel: 83-120 893 Madsen: 71-116 806 Quinn had more passing yards against Georgia than any of these guys had in any of their last 4 games with a bum ankle and without his starting LT. Smart Klatt, bench Ewers now he clearly doesn't belong on the field with these guys! This level of mental decline is pretty jarring.
Without a doubt. Ewers is still hurt. Texas running game only works with great passing. Put arch manning in to win a championship. Put Ewers in to be one and done.
Passing defense stats inflated. What good pass offense have they played ? A&M? Their qb is run first. Taylon green?? Diego pavia?? All of Texas’s stats are inflated
@@eatemupjonnyexactly. Their arguments for Texas not being good directly contradict the team they are comparing us too. Just accept that Texas is good again
@ those defenses would easily handle Clemson. They play in the acc for gods sake. The national championship teams were undefeated for Clemson and served big time Ls to teams . This team got lucky to be here from an inferior conference that plays no defense. that’s what you’ll see. You should not be comparing Georgia to anyone outside of certain teams and Clemson is for sure not one of them.
I forgot that the SEC champion automatically has the better defense than everyone else. That’s like saying that they also automatically have more DUI’s. Oh, wait….
Sark is starting to look not great at HC for continuing to stick with Quinn...Arch needs way more snaps and if that works, stick with it! Don't keep doing the same thing expecting a different (i.e., successful) outcome 🤦
Ewers is a first read QB,any pressure and he immediately takes his eyes of his receivers. He wont even be picked in the top 3 RDs of the NFL drat.his limitations are glaring.
If Texas wants to win a natty they have to play Arch they will beat Clemson but if they end up playing Oregon Dillon Gabriel is too good they have to win a shootout and Ewers isn’t mobile enough for that defense
Joel's, as always, one the money here. Dude is the best in the biz. His commentary on Quinn Ewers is exactly right. Most Texas fans (of which I am one) can't be nuanced about the guy. It's either "QE is the savior of Texas Football!!" or "Quinn sucks!", neither of which are true. He's a good QB with some deficiencies in his game and Joel does a good job explaining what some of those deficiencies are here. I'll add that, as a Longhorn, I love Quinn. I think he's a smart QB and really capable but I believe he plays a little timid and not to get hurt which I don't like. Also his low release and bad footwork lead to inconsistency in his throws. Sometimes he threads the needle and sometimes it's wildly inaccurate. That's tied to bad footwork IMO. He's good enough to beat Clemson and Arizona St but we'll most likely lose to Oregon and it'll come down to QB play, where Gabriel will outperform Ewers.
why do people still use the georgia game basically a pre season game clemson breaking in a new o line coach kmsl i challege u joel go look at the south carolina game
Sark needs to put that $50K to work. Arch would be the starter anywhere else in the country. Finally, I don't see Ewers going very high in the NFL draft. And Sark needs to hire an OC and concentrate on being the head coach.
Ewers is garbage. He beat bama. Lost every other game anytime texas plays a team with comparable talent. '22 tcu, '22 washington, '23 ou, '23 washington, georgia x2. Hes a liability. If you're wanting him to start its only because you have a bias against the manning family. Lol.
When does Quinn declare to go pro and leave it up to Arch? My guess is he plays the first two games against Clemson and Arizona St., and then bails before Oregon. Leaving Arch to come in with little real time play when the going gets tough. Everyone knows Quinn cannot beat Oregon and that loss will just hurt his NFL prospects.
QE’s biggest problem is pressure. He can’t perform whether it’s physical pocket pressure or crunch-time pressure. Vs OU in 2023 and 2 qtrs in 2024, vs Washington down the stretch, TAM in the red zone 2x, and GA games 2x this year. If the game is on the line and his team needs him to perform he really struggles. Plays terrible from behind and in the red zone. His numbers bear that out. The only big game he really played like a champion was Vs Alabama 2023.
Who do you think Texas should start at quarterback?
Quinn…geez…this is the end of the season…it’s totally stupid to even think that unless you think football is played with a soccer ball ⚽️
Play Trey Owens. I'm pulling for Clemson.

Maybe Clemson should start Arch Manning?!?
I agree with the criticism of Quinn Ewers from Joel Klatt. If you watch Quinn's passes. They are floaters at all times.
There is a reason Sark is the Texas HC and some are talking hosts, they serve different functions in College football.

He's mid and overrated.
Ewers should start, but Manning should take at least half the snaps.
I think Manning should at least be in there for a good quarter of the snaps. Not just like a play here or there as some kind of trick.
I think benching Ewers now would have a negative impact on future QB recruiting.
Ewers is a liability. But I don’t think the play calling had helped him either
Quinn has removed his ankle brace and looks healthy in practice. Wether he plays good or not is another story. Hope he does
sark will not make a change.,he is stubborn
Let arch play 💪🏼
Quinn is better at short stuff rn, but I’d give arch a chance. His deep ball is much better than Quinn
