Riley Leonard has improved his passing efficiency dramatically since Miami of Ohio. The Fighting Irish will through slants, screens, tightends and split ends will all contribute. Leonard's running ability will takeone of Indiana's defenders away from the pass/run, inorder to spy the QB. Rourke is a slow runner subject to sacks. Disagree on your prediction. Odds are good both TN and OSU are going to stack the box and try to force the QB's to move the ball through the air. Howard and Nico, not so different. OSU receivers, far better than TN's. TN TE's, better than OSUs. RB's is a bit of a toss up to me, the combo of OSUs two backs are as good or better than TNs one, particularly catching the ball out of the backfield, which is going to be how yards are going to happen Sat night. Nico just has to not lose the game. Sampson and the OL has to win it. That being said, Tennessee has played “complete football” for at best two quarters in a game this whole season and I don’t expect them to figure out how to do it for all four on Saturday.

To say Nico hasn't progressed is not true. He did have some early struggles but he has looked far more comfortable in the pocket. No one has ever played a schedule like that before. No one will be able to deny that they deserve to be the champions.

The thing is that you need a quarterback that throws the ball well. We saw against Michigan, in which they did throw the ball, that it gets picked off easy because of bad throws. Tennessee’s secondary is good enough to replicate that. We will see what Chip will do then, run the ball (like against Michigan) or keep throwing it (and possibly throw more)

    • @Labhran

@ Howard had 1 bad game all season, and it was Michigan. When you’re putting him in 3rd and 7 every set of downs, of course he’s going to make mistakes. Let’s not act like Howard is some scrub- he was the second rated passer in the country going into the UM game. He made a few mistakes throughout the season, but outside of the Michigan game, he always made up for it with a big play at a crucial moment.

  • @KyleJonesDrJones

Stats need to be put in context.
What people don't undestand about the SOS between ND and IU is that SOS is just an average. Indiana got to that average with 1 great team (OSU) and a bunch of really bad teams. They only played two teams with a winning record. ND got there by playing mostly solid bowl teams (8 total) and a few stinkers. The average SOS is about the same, but here's the difference: blowing out terrible teams (IU) is not the same as blowing out solid bowl-eligible teams (ND). In the same way, ND's pass defense is a little inflated by playing Army and Navy, who don't pass. IU's run defense is inflated because outside of UM and OSU, they haven't played a team with a run offence ranked above 60th in the country.
Stats are fine, but you need to put them in context.

Ewers had 350 yards against Georgia on a bum ankle, with his wideouts dropping 5 or 6 balls, including a TD. (Without his Outland trophy AA LT) What are you even talking about, Georgia's front is a bad matchup for Texas, Clemson is not Georgia up front, so your logic is flawed from the jump. @punav7449 air yards depend on the weather. If conditions don't impede passing too much, they'll do 200. Tight ends alone might have 100. All 3 they play are over 6'6"... how tall are your backers again?
Screens and check downs will get another 50.
The Irish pass game was a mess at the beginning of the year. Largely due to inexperienced o line and a QB transfer coming off injury and no spring.
They've gotten significantly better through the year. Leonard was on pace for 300 a couple of times, but game flow had backups in early.
Unless Indiana jumps out to a big lead with turnovers or something that has the Irish trying to catch up, they'll hit 200. Love's health is a bit of a question that can affect that total. Even if he isn't 100%, Price will eat. Williams is a very capable 3rd down guy also. Particularly in the pass game.
