Brazilian armed forces never really adopted the Imbel MD-97, it saw its use but never in large scale. Instead the main rifle is the FAL and the Para-FAL, that are slowly being upgraded to the 5.56 Imbel IA2, the IA2 also has a 7.62 variant that is being studied to be adopted by the army, but it’s uncertain.

And the guns aren't that old, but the they have been in service since that date. New AKs and Heckler&Kochs are been produced all the time... And one thing AK is used so widely is its reliability. A gunsmith I know told me that AKs have more tolerance for dust, sand and temperature changes than most western guns, so they don't get stuck or have malfunction as often as most western guns like Brens or ARs. And of course huge pruduction number make it cheap too.

@@mikkorenvall428 AK's, in my experience, have many more minor malfunctions than Western firearms. It's just that none of them make the rifle unusable. Also Western ammo is far more reliable. There are trade offs in everything.

    • @G1NZOU
      @G1NZOU 8 дней назад

@@mikkorenvall428 AKs have a tolerance to dust if they haven't been oiled, they're the kind of gun that you could leave in a cave for ages and you could then bring it back into service with basic maintenance, but they're not quite as invincible as urban myth suggests, they have more gaps for dust and sand to get in and if you have it lubricated like a normal rifle should be you'll have the sand stick to moving parts and eventually cause a malfunction.
The advantage of AKs is they're widely available and easy to make, and because they're simple designs and they're so common there are plenty of armourers who can keep it maintained with only basic supplies, and be manufactured in 3rd world countries with simpler tooling.
Rifles like the SA80 had design flaws from the start which meant the firing pin was fragile and they didn't cope well with sand, but after upgrades their reliability improved.
The AR-15 is known as being one of the most reliable rifle designs if you maintain it properly, tighter tolerance to stop mud getting into the action, early magazines were cheaply made which cause feed issues unrelated to the actual gun, and early guns were sabotaged by changing the ammunition to a more corrosive one and not supplying cleaning kits, which for any rifle is a recipe for disaster, actual modern real world performance of an AR-15 in mud and dirt shows they are actually excellent.

And looking at the equipment some servicemen are also issued even M91 fragmentation vests rather than the M05. I think priority would be getting the M17 ballistic vest in more numbers or to 90% of the army as its a lot more comfortable than the old multi layered M05 system. The normal thing that has always been done in Sweden, which was then to find weapons and replace the AK4 (Swedish designation)., they did not take a number of weapons to test and see which one passed the Swedish requirement and it then became the AK5. Idk if it was said, but just a fyi, the Brazilian one was a project to a main rifle for all forces, including police ones (here in Brazil every police force has rifles too, except they're semiauto, not full), so we mainly used paraFAL and FAL, with some forces using M4s, M16s and others. The new rifle had to be modular, lightweight, fire from water and mud, resist heat and cold alike, powerful enough to break concrete walls and also built in Brazil, that's why it's branded IMBEL. They thought that the 5.56 was too weak for the military, with limited range and stopping power, so they also offered one with 7.62 from the FN FAL, both with semi and full variants and most parts made out of polymers. I don't know about it's precision and handling, but in theory it's like a XXIst century FN FAL. If someone see something wrong, please correct me, my brothers 👍🏻

The XM-7 for the US has been adopted and is now the M-7. It is a rather curious and special made rifle for the US Army Infantry only at this time. It fired a 6.8 mm round based on the 270-308 wildcat round that has been modified. The 6.8 mm round has a casing of both brass in the top 3/4, and steel for the bottom where the primer pocket it. The two metal approach was used for the much higher chamber pressure of 80,000 psi (almost all rifles with few exceptions are usually at a max 65,000 psi in chamber pressure) the added pressure gives the rifle similar ballistic performance of a 270 Winchester hunting round with a smaller casing. (Potentially it will have much shorter barrel life from the 3000 fps muzzle velocity than if they went with a lower chamber pressure.) The rifle has a complex scope being called a fire control unit that is made by vortex. Once sighted in, it calculates air temp, wind velocity and direction, altitude, any cant (tilt of how the rifle is held to the shoulder), and humidity. It also has a laser range finder. The internal computer then takes this information and adjusts the projected illuminated crosshairs inside the scope to guarantee first round hit to 900m. The magazine at this time also only holds 20 rounds. There is an accompanying machine gun for the rifle squad that fires the same round from a belt known as the XM-250 also by Sig.
Side note, the US Marine Corps still uses 5.56 in the newer M-27. It looks like an M-4 on the outside, but the inside is different from its gas piston operation. It is based on the H&K 416. There is an option for the Marines to adopt this rifle.

This new armament comes in 2 calibers, the 5.56 NATO standard and the 7.62 also in the NATO standard. I would also like to point out that each armed force uses a different armament, it is not something unified yet, but this is already happening. The Brazilian air force uses the HK 33 and the SIG SG 550, the Brazilian navy uses the M16A2 and the FN FAL, but for the time being only the FAL will be replaced by the new armament. I recommend researching Osório), and the worst thing about this whole story is that the blame for this situation of abandonment and technological stagnation is the fault of the people themselves, who elect corrupt politicians who only think in robbing and stealing. Currently we should be a reference in South America, but because of all these negative issues we are in this shameful state, and the budget used by the armed forces is increasingly decreasing, and no one does anything about it. This saddens me in a very strong way. The current president has been convicted countless times and half a dozen federal judges who are his friends have carried out various maneuvers to get him out of prison, making people think that he is innocent of all the harm he has caused and causes to the population, consequently electing this worm to the presidency, and unfortunately this evil man's government policies increasingly tighten the noose around the neck of the armed forces, against whom he fought in the 70's here in Brazil. Of course, someone will try to discredit me, but there are no arguments against facts. Even so, I pray that our situation will change and that we can be great again.

In Argentina the army uses the FAL and the navy/marines uses the M16, both are old asf rifles, but hopefully we could update them soon if the US sells us some M4 or something at a relatively low price, just as they sold us those 24 F-16 Fighting Falcon at US$650M a few weeks ago. I mean, they're gonna do something with those "old" rifles after the arrival of the new XM7, right?
Btw, we've sent a formal request to NATO to join as global partners. That would be great for us to update our military forces following their standards.

Ak's are relatively cheap, but highly customizable. but not only are they cheap, they're just so easy to purchase compared to other guns. I like AK's, good stopping power, good durability, high chance of them not crapping out on you. The issue with them is ineffective range and boring cleaning processes, unlike the M16 and M4 they do not break down easily for thorough cleanings. They are also heavier than the m16. buit man these things are so fun to shoot. also, i dont know how its pronounced, but i was always told Koch is pronounced like Coke.

You ever disasembled the entire bolt and firing pin on a M4 platform?
The one with dual springs or the one with the stupid shimmy and spring in the extractor ?
And yes, ive seen people ruin their firing pins by hiting the pins out with it, not push push on it but tap tap smash.... sigh..
On AK aslong as the firing pin is moving freely its OK.
Litterly its the fastest and easiest cleaning.
remove bolt, remove firing pin pin, jam a qouple dry qtips trough it... DONE.
if its extremely dirty, use diesel/ gasoline to clean it out and then dry it with qtips... DONE.
Now it should work for another couple thousand rounds again.
      Ineffective range?
If setup correctly you should be able to hit a mans chest or A4 paper size at 100Meters easy by quicksighting on ironsight..
pull up aim, upto 2sec aim then fire 2 rounds withinanother 2-3 sec and get dual hits on target.
With a litle training you should do that upto 200meters.
Sure it gets easier with 2x red dots etc.. small scopes.
But what if there is a emp knocking out all electronics.
Perhaps learn to use Ironsights and work with it.
And for the Koch, This is how you pronounce it.

Actually, we Vietnamese have 3 version of our locally designed service rifle: STV-215, STV-380 and STV-022 (yes, it is STV, not SVT). The rifles were based on the Galil ACE mixed with some elements from the AK and modified to suit local conditions, all are chambered for the 7.62x39mm cartridge
The difference between the version is the barrel length. STV-215 and STV-022 both have a 215mm (8.5 inch) barrel, and the STV-380 (no surprise) have a 380mm (15 inch) barrel.
The STV-022, while being identical to the STV-215, can be further differentiated because it doesn't have a stock and came with a 20-round AK-style mag (as opposed to the 30-round standard AK mag), but it can still accept regular AK mags if needed. It is usually issued to military guards and border guard units

4:27 - They upgraded it after 5 years because first version still had a lot of problems and it was very hated by everyone, in second version, they fixed a lot of problems, but most of people I know would still prefer some "normal" AR-15 variant or just stick with older VZ-58 which is still used by some reservists, but the last models were made in like 1976 and big amount of them was sold to Canada where AKs are banned (they buy something that has at least similar shape instead), so ther are no spare parts for them now, so they will have to get rid of them too soon.
I had CZ Bren (unfortunately I don't remember what version it was) in my hands and it looks cool on pictures, but in reality, it's big and heavy and you have to hammer magazine inside, nothing fits there precisely, but as an AR-18 family, it has some advantages over AR-15. But on other hand I very liked our newer pistol (I think it was CZ P-10C but I am not sure), that felt very good in my hands (I am a smaller person and that grip was perfect for me), it was super light and everything moves absolutely smooth, it feels like some airsoft pistol.

In India, apart from the INSAS (5.56x45), which is being phased out, we use the AK 203 (7.62x39) for environments where long ranges are not required and SiG Sauer 716 rifles (7.62x51) for environments (Mountain and desert), where longer ranged rifles are desirable. Special Forces and special units in other arms use the Tavor (5.56x45) and several variants of these. Urban warfare units often use MP 9s (B&T) and MP 5s (H&K). Sniper rifles are MSG 90 and PSG 1 from H&K plus Dragunov marksman rifles (7.62x54). In addition, Galatz sniper rifles are used by certain units and now there is a move towards sniper rifles chambered in .338 Lapua, possibly from Sako (I'm not sure). Of these, only the INSAS and AK 203s are manufactured in India as of now although certain Israeli variants are also made under license.

The bolts have a different locking method. The mags are not interchangeable. The only thing they have in common is the round the use and that's it.

China used to use a whole bunch of their own AK variants (also how a ton of weapons in insurgent hands tend to be Chinese or Eastern Europe made export AKs rather than the real deal Russian made ones), then they went all futuristic with a lightweight bullpup with lots of polymer, I believe the first time it was seen in the outside world is when Hong Kong was handed over to the PRC. There were apparently a few issue with it including ergonomic design flaws, so they went back to a more conventional rifle with the QBZ-191.
And the Czechs, they know their guns, some fantastic designs over the decades.

Its not really up to date. The Dutch have been using the Colt Canada c7-nl and c8-nl since over 10 years.
Diemaco was the old name of Colt Canada and ones were using now are a different version of pretty much the same weapon. The hk416 is being used by special forces primarily. Not really a standard weapon for mainline forces.

It's wrong on Ukraine. The most common rifle is the AK-74. No one really likes the "U" model. Austria uses the A3 model. Very upgraded but a horrible trigger. Koch is pronounced like coke. The Australian Austere is a Steyr-AUG. Yes, the Argentinean FAL was often picked up by the British in the Falklands War because it had the giggle switch (full auto).
