The MEUSOC 1911 is a specific build of the 1911 that was issued to US Marine special operations personnel for many years. There a specific specs for the slide, frame, trigger, sights, etc. They're genuinely incredible pistols to shoot when built correctly.
As someone who lived in Maine for sometime, you’d have a good appreciation for that Shughart. Gary Gordon was the other sniper with Shughart at the time, and his hometown is Lincoln Maine. Just about 45 minutes north of Bangor where UMaine is. They still fly a Blackhawk over town every Memorial Day.
Huge respect to the Shughart M14, Named after Randy Shughart. Dude basically volunteered to dismounted with his buddy Gordon in order to secure crash site 6-4 and hold it in hopes for rescue to arrive. Due to that valiant effort they got the medal of honor. still hurts my gut seeing the movie and real life photo on what they did to their bodies. @OriginalHuman you should react to Gordon and Shugart's story on how they became legends. For war movies I love Generation K!ll, The pacific and Band of brothers.
that m16 is whats called an SPR (Special purpose rifle) or a DMR (Designated marksman rifle) so they are usually a bit heavier that an infantry rifle, but its not an infantry rifle. usually the operator of that weapon system is stationary providing overwatch or recon.
The 1911 GT replicated was used by Marine Corps units called MEUs - Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) - hence the name MEUSOC. The pistols were fitted, tuned, and accurized by Marine gunsmiths at the Precision Weapons Shop in Quantico, Virginia. There's several generations of the pistols and the one Mike has represents the late 90's to early GWOT days. Once integral railed 1911s came about like the Springfield Armory Operator, Kimber Warrior, and Colt Rail Gun, guns like Mike's were phased out in favor of the newer frames because the rails were much stronger and allowed for better mounting of superior enabling accessories.
My favorite war movie has gotta be 1917 as well BUT 13 hours is underrated in my opinion , it tickled my brain into reading everything I could about it and what led to it
My favorite war movie is ‘Saving Private Ryan.’ These guys really know what they’re doing. Brandon looks like ex military, but I could be wrong. Great reaction as usual, and your laugh always makes me laugh too. 😂
1911 MEU SOC... Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable. They are units that are capable of emergency rapid deployment. They also can serve as standby during SpecOps missions, basically to go in should things get out of hand, to rescue personnel that may have become stranded behind enemy lines, or other such situations. I was avionics repair when I was active duty, my unit was part of a MEU SOC. The pistol was made by a special team of armorers. They used standard 1911 pistols from the inventory, and tuned them. They also used carefully selected parts, and created night sights and other enhancements. Basically they built them up from an empty frame to be the best version it could be. They are typically rebuilt every 10k rounds. They were still using the original frames and slides, which were last built in 1945... As no new 1911s were made for the military after that year. They had plenty in inventory to replace any that broke or fell out of spec. There were some frames that were estimated to have over 500k rounds through them. Another fun fact, a few years ago, during a teardown and rebuild, it was discovered that an M2 heavy machine gun that was from the initial manufacturing batch was still in service. It was over 100 years old at that point, and still going strong. Around year 2003 or so, due to increased demand for more of the pistols, a backlog of work for the special team of armorers, and the fact that so many of the frames were starting to show their age... It was decided to acquire new pistols from comercial manufacturers. (typically referred to as a COTS, Commercial Off The Shelf acquisition) These would be a high end model with combat focused features, such as improved night sights, light mount rails, and other enhancements. Kimber supplied the initial batch for Marine Detachment One. Later Springfield provided a batch to the program as well. Around 2010 Colt submitted a special model for the program, and it was selected as the official new 1911 MEUSOC replacement.
Shugart M14 is a custom clone of the M14 that Delta Force Medal of Honor Winner Randy Shugart had in Mogadishu Somalia. Randy Shugart and Gary Gordon (who carried the CAR15 they referenced Garand Thumb is having built). Were both killed trying to rescue one of the Pilots CWO4 Mike Durant (Black Hawk down). They held off thousands of Somali until they ran out of ammo. Mike Durant was captured and eventually released.
Luke a suggestion: create a series where you watch war movies and react. That would be soo cool and also do a video about the Sri Lankan LRRPs which became the third best special forces according to one military ranking website in 2020 (full disclosure don't know the acceptance of the report as I am not aware about military rankings or how it happens.) Looking forward for your reactions love from Sri Lanka
My favorite 5 guns are (Colt 1911 .45, Springfield Garand, Browning Automatic Rifle, Colt Walker .44, and the Browning Highpower 9mm). I think its my obsession with origiinal designs. I have used lots of modern pistols and rifles but its just my opinion I love to pick up these old designs which all the newer guns eminate from and without the older designs the newer ones would not exist. Of course I love the new ones as well.
You mentioned how Admin seems like the friend that always has jokes and goofs off the most, and it instantly makes me think of the episode he was on the Unsubscribe Podcast where he just continually pushed TFEs buttons about German tanks and communism just to get him wound up and it was the funniest thing in the world 😂

I can't pick one war movie I like the best but these are the ones I can watch over and over ... Full metal jacket, Fury, Saving private Ryan, Three Kings, Lone Survivor, 13 hours, Behind Enemy Lines.

Brandon is a pure civilian. Admin was a cop for years. My favorite war movie: The Longest Day. (Skinny is slang from Mogadishu - the "soldiers" didn't eat a lot) I'll take the 1911 - MEU SOC is Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable and that's a clone of one they used to use. Each one of the MEU SOC 1911s was hand built by Marine Corp armorers - they did go to commercial production somewhat recently to replace the worn out guns. I'll take an M1 Garand over that M14 every day of the week.
