That is Nicholas Irving, aka the Reaper. He isn't a gun tuber he's a well known veteran sniper with his own books/audiobooks.
Other than the deadliest living sniper on the planet and damn good author, he also has a gun youtube channel. REAPER 33
@guyintenn are you sure he wasn't referring to a specific round like the one that spreads after going through wall
@@guyintenn Nick is also the biggest troll in the gun community, I honestly have no idea if it was satire or not
@capntbaggins9262 it's been a rumor in the military for years and a lot of people bought into it and believed it.
@@guyintenn Lighten up. The guy knows more about ballistics and what it takes to actually hit a moving target at range than the majority of gun owners in general, he's allowed to have fun once in a while.
“That’s not a pistol!” We know, but the way U.S. gun laws are written, it’s legally considered a pistol. We hate it too because it makes no sense and was written by people who don’t know anything about guns.
Its unconstitutional BS.
I mean I think its pretty cool I can call my 15.5 inch a pistol but all the other laws surrounding guns are complete bullshit and not even funny like that ONE rule lol
its not about physical but what it personally feels like on the inside guys its 2024
Saved me from typing out a similar comment. Fuck the ATF.
Isn’t it part of a legacy gun law form the 1920s that just never got removed?
Fun Fact: The taped AK seen on middle east is for preventing the wood coating melted by heat sticking on to your skin, which is old USSR ak there are sticky. This is also the reason why russia changed wood furniture to plastic from AK74M (AK100 series)
I’m not sure if this is right exactly but the soviets during there war in Afghanistan wrapped there stock with a pink tourniquet for the same reason your describing but I’m not sure if they did or didn’t use tape.
So they used wood coating instead of wood? No offense intended I'm genuinely curious. I haven't done much research into AKs so forgive me for being ignorant.
@@fluffernutter6633 it protects the wood
@@Endedas I thought the OP meant it was a "wood" coating over top of a non-wood surface.
Apparently the coating, once melted, had a terrible smell as well, so sealing it in with duct-tape prevented them from having to deal with that too.
Nick is known for having one of the highest confirmed kills as a Sniper in the military. One of the deadliest in modern times.
He was a 3rd Ranger Battalion member also.
He's also known as the Reaper.
Nick is a very respected sniper most people don't know the other is a very respected Veteran doctor
They don’t “confirm” sniper kills. He’s just a very effective sniper.
@@scottydu81 They sure do boss.
Man, I forgot about this vid. Nick's one of my favourite guests on Demo Ranch. Such a funny dude that you don't wanna piss off
That is Nicolas Irving, former sniper in the 2nd Ranger Battalion. Known as "The Reaper" for his record of 33 confirmed sniper kills in Afghanistan. Also wrote a really good book by the title "The Reaper" it's his autobiography, telling the story of his life growing up, his training for the Rangers, and finally his deployments in Afghanistan. Definitely worth picking up! Hell of a read.
He's also written a trilogy of books, the first one being called "Reaper: Ghost Target" it's a fictional story, but really good. The level of detail he puts into his books is insane.
Couple fun facts: He most recently has done work on the CBS show "SEAL Team" working with the character "Rey" whom is Bravo Team's sniper as the technical advisor, and stunt man. I believe he's actually been in a few scenes, but no one would be able to recognize him. I would strongly suggest you pick up his books, I've listened to them multiple times now. Especially being former military yourself, I think you could appreciate them.
you should check out garand thumbs video "what it sounds like to be shot at by subsonic rounds" its a really crazy sound.
Any of garand thumbs videos where he does "for science" stuff is gold
And his flintlock rifle ballistic test.
Nick plays a really good game of cat and mouse. His sense of humor is unmatched. You’ll start to catch on after watching him for a bit
In a video in the past year or 2 Matt shoots his entire collection, goals bro, goals.
Amen. Goals for sure.
The passenger seat has the word "Raptor" on it, and raptor as far as I'm aware pertains only to the Ford F-150.
Rangers and Broncos also have Raptor packages.
The AR is way more reliable than you think .
There’s plenty of tests where mud or ice is packed in the upper receiver and the AK wouldn’t cycle but the AR would since the gas pushes back through the receiver and blows debris out .
I own a lot of ARs and I don’t clean my DD for over a thousand rounds and no issues .
Garand Thumb's ice and mud tests on AK & AR pattern rifles will come as a surprise to those who just go off of the "conventional wisdom."
Yeah absolutely! The biggest factor is keeping mud and dust out of the action, that's where the AR-15's closed system is significantly superior to the AK platforms. "Loose tolerances means mud just gets kicked out" is absolutely not the case, as soon as grime gets into the action, it needs a proper cleaning to get operational again.
Nick is a friend of matt from demolition ranch he was a sniper in the army rangers specifically was in the 3rd ranger battalion
Yes, he is known as "the reaper" or something cool like that. He allegedly has an actual ton of confirmed kills.
@@NK-po6kiyeah what you said
@@NK-po6kithe thing is if they are confirmed they are not alleged.
Ways to “Confirm Kills”:
1) Visual Confirmation: This could involve eyewitness accounts from fellow soldiers or officers who observe the target being hit.
2) Physical Evidence: This may include recovering the body of the target, examining the scene for signs of a successful hit, or recovering items that are associated with the target.
3) Technical Verification: In some cases, modern technology such as scopes with cameras or other surveillance equipment may be used to confirm the kill.
4) After-action Reports: Military units often document engagements and kills in after-action reports, which may serve as a formal confirmation.
But mostly it would be the after action reports that would have the shooter’s report listing shots and downed targets and the spotters report listing shots and downed targets.
@thomasohanlon1060 Thanks for the information. I wasn’t gonna look it up. I'm just describing what I heard about the guy without verifying it myself, hence the use of the word "alleged." Not trying to discount the record if it is legit.
@@NK-po6ki Honestly was not trying to single you out, I just figured it would be read here, and it almost always is brought up a count is alleged, sorry if it came across as rude. I tend to come across that way in person it’s something that I’m to old to change.
5.56 is everywhere in America. Availability is often the best ability.
5.45 (AK-74 round) is horrible availability since the Ukraine/Russia war lit off. 7.62x39mm is still available, since so many other countries use it.
@@Stevarooni i am talking about what is in people's homes. Not what's in stock on some online ammo broker. I applied actual logic and realized what you can easily scavenge is going to be best.
@@OldGoat-cw8he I do not challenge your conclusion. 5.56 is going to be very common. With as.many SKSs and AKs in 7.62x39mm as are in people's hands, though, it's going to be a fairly close second on availability, for rifle rounds. There's even a fair amount of manufacture in the U.S.
You should react to the series "ak guys vs ar guys" bye Brandon Herrera. There are 4 or more videos in the series and are hilarious
I know a dude that bought an all white AR-15 and put black add-ons on it and called it his Stormtrooper rifle. He even got the Empire cog logo put on the mag well.
I love this vid. My old man was a special operator who demanded I get the best rifle I can afford, just in case. So I stripped an SKS (7.62x39)and rebuilt it hard. Then, I worked a job where I earned enough to spend for one of the best ARs you can buy. My dad had his pick of ANYTHING in Vietnam on loadout. Guns are tools- hammer, screwdriver, etc. I have pics of guys using tommy and slick guns back then. My dad swore by his m-16 (AR), but he loved having the option of the AK if he knew he was gonna be in the mud. If you want comfort, distance, penetration and accuracy, you go AR. If you want a buzzsaw that'll rip limbs off up to 600 yards and never quit, you go AK. I absolutely loved this video and I'll never say one is better than the other. They have 2 different objectives ❤
If you are in the US in a post-apocalyptic situation, almost every police car or SWAT team van will have an AR-15 or even an M-16 or M-4 and 5.56 or law enforcement/hunting rounds in .223 which will work in any AR-15. If you find some unfortunate American soldiers or National Guardsmen who were over-run, you'll find M-4's and ammo which will work in any AR-15, or even a DMR chambered in .308. I'll have to assume something went very, very wrong with their machineguns to allow them to be over-run, but the M-249 SAW is chambered in 5.56, you can take the ammo out of the links to work in an AR-15 and the M-240 is chambered in 7.62 NATO which can be used in a DMR or AR-10. Most gun shops will have more .223 or 5.56 compared to 7.62x39, they might have even more .308 or 7.62 NATO which will work in a DMR or AR-10. Most 7.62 x 39 is full metal jacket, where .223 hunting rounds are common in soft tip or hollowpoint and most .308 is designed for hunting. Combined with the accuracy of an AR-15 or AR-10, a soft tip or HP will do a number on a zombie's head while a 7.62 might pass through with minimal damage, if you can even hit it with an AK. Using a hunting round from an AR on a zombie's torso will take chunks out compared to FMJ in an AK.
Out of a full length AR-15 (20" barrel), fmj will do a number on a torso hit or head shot compared to an AK. There's more FMJ available for AK's because even though it's 30 caliber and a decent deer hunting round, because of its lack of accuracy compared to other hunting rifles, not a lot of people go deer hunting with them. Hunting ammo for AK's is very expensive and not very common. President Clinton banned the importation of Chinese guns and ammo. Before that, Chinese soft tip and hollowpoint AK ammo was cheap and abundant, even actual AP rounds. Chinese AK's and the ammo was easily half the cost as AR-15's and .223 or 5.56 at the time. Now Russian made ammo is banned, AK ammo has gone up in price, which has caused scarcity. AK food isn't as common as it used to be. Because a lot of bolt action guns are in .223 and a lot of states allow hunting with AR's, hunting ammo is common, now decent AR-15's are much less expensive than brand new AK's and the ammo is about the same price.
Both you and Ryan have been "dimed" out to "the guntubers" by your fans mate. Numerous shout outs in their comment sections.
born and raised in Texas and although the AR platform will always have a place in my heart as it was my first rifle, i’ve been an AK guy since i bought my first one 5 years ago
Nick was a sniper in the US military and was known as the reaper. He also has written some books which I would highly recommend giving a read, and he does have a youtube channel that he uploads on from time to time. Also the stories he told in this video were a joke. And no, Matt's wife has never shot at him
2 of the funniest entros to demolition ranch is THE BEOWOLF 50..... The other one is the most tactical and affordable gun against my bulletproof laptop. These are 2 of my favorite ones they're absolutely hilarious. I really enjoy your show.
Green tip= light armor penetrater. Not standard hard ball.
Correct steel core rather than lead
That guy right there is Nick, one of the deadliest snipers US had and yeah he have craaazy stories haha
In my opinion, which is better depens a lot on who you are giving the rifle to. The AK-47 is a pretty user-friendly gun; if you are arming a bunch of fresh conscripts who only have a crash-course training, haven't shot guns a whole lot, and/or don't really know all that much about maintaining their weapon, then the AK is a pretty forgiving platform.
However, if you're arming a bunch of career soldiers, those who have formal military training, spend a lot of time at the range, and understand the intricacies of their weapons, they're going to be able to get more preformance out of an AR-15 and can put it's advantages to better use.
that matte "sandy" color you're talking about is called FDE or Flat Dark Earth. It's one of the more common modern military camo colors. It generally comes in slightly different shades, sometimes even on the same gun, ala the Scar rifles. People call that look 50 shades of FDE.
These "guntubers" might just have one of the top 10 most fun jobs in the world. The hard part would be coming up with different video ideas after making 1000 of them. I suppose my preference depends on the build. Like if the AK is the same build as Garand Thumbs from the last video? AK for sure. If we're talking stock weapons? Probably AR.
Nick was a Spec Ops Sniper nicknamed “The Reaper”. His channel is Reaper 33.
I own both. My favorite thing about my AKM over my AR is that I have never lost a cotter pin while cleaning the BCG on it, and have with my AR15.
Nicholas was a Ranger Sniper, known as the Reaper . He’s also a Writer and has a couple books out. Since you’re a reader you might want to check him out.
Jeez, that old range. Our boy Matt has come far in the last 5 years.
Miss Reaper popping up in some vids, his comments were always over the top.
Nick was aa former Army Ranger sniper if you didn't know
Inrange TV used to work with forgotten weapons some years back. They together did a moon dust test on both the AK and AR.
The idea was to simulate a convoy mission in the desert. Very interesting conclusion, it would likely change your view on both weapon systems.
Garand Thumb did a freeze test also. It definitely changed a lot of minds about the topic also.
Matt did a "I shot of all my guns!" video in December. Thats one you should check out!
I'd have to go AR because there's more ammo for it in my area. If I was in Europe, I'd definitely go AK. If I were to acquire any firearm I wanted and a million rounds for the apocalypse, it'd be a 45/70 Henry lever gun. Doesn't matter if your armor stops it, a sledgehammer to the chest is gonna stop you.
Ceramic is actually great at breaking up bullets. Level 4 body armor is usually made of either steel or ceramic. Ceramic armor typically blocks multiple rounds before it’s broken up and starts to pour out of the holes in your carrier, making it less effective. While steel armor can sustain more rounds, it shatters the bullet rather than breaking and catching it, meaning it sends shrapnel in all directions outbound from the plate. I.E. into your arms, legs, groin, neck, and chin… not fun or good as you can imagine. I have always, and will always, recommend going for ceramic based level 4 plates because, if you get hit, steel plates are a castration at best and an arterial bleed at worst.
Cast iron is useless as armor. I've shot through it with the standard .22LR cartridge.
I'd go with the AR (not the one with the open receiver, that's insane). It's considerably lighter than the AK and the ammo is lighter so you can carry a lot more.
You should watch the ice tests Garand Thumb did with AR’s and AK’s and the InRange TV moondust tests. The myths about AK’s and AR’s are greatly exaggerated but still stick around and are spouted as absolute facts. I would take a well built AR in any terrain and climate.
I have a Colt AR and a Zastava AK (just like the one on his table with the folding stock). Both are great. I like the AR more.
got to give props to mr. Kalashnikov for making that weapon.. more than a half century later his weapon is top tier stuff. all new guns have great versatility but the AK still is number 1 choice for many soldiers just for that reliability and durability factor. the gun just works, no matter what anyone will try to nick pick and split hairs. The gun is good, simple as that.
His truck is a Ford F150 SVT Raptor. A factory offroad performance package with 35" tires and more power than a normal F150.
This is amazing, i have been watching demo for years.. and yours.. but seeing you reacting to.... wow love it,,, Wish you could go and shoot of a few rounds together
Yeh the inside joke is he tells crazy stories for giggles, that's why he has to premise the real stories by saying that it's actually a real story. It's just a thing he does for fun. 😂
They are both great platforms 1 is temperamental about being clean , the other is a work horse and works when dirty. 1 is heavier than the other.
A modern AR is just as reliable as a AK. Modern AK can be just as accurate as an AR platform. It comes down to personal preference and what you would be more comfortable with.
I am a huge 20in AR guy but would have no problem picking up an AK with some kind of stock.
I agree newer aks work great there are benefits to pistons and there is benefits to DI. But honestly if I had to choose I would want an ar10 16 in barrel in 6.5 creedmoor
anything but a g36 lol
I think sometimes when some say reliability they mean mud and water and ice, which if youves seen garands vid, again theres positives and negatives for both
Nick was a sniper in the military so he has been everywhere (so when he was telling the story about the AK) he was changing around certain things for opsec reasons
Nick Irving Special Operations Snipers. Dudes a great snipe and is a great dude. Hes even got a book out.
Should definitely react to some Shawn Ryan Podcast clips of guys such as Nick (aka the Grim Reaper which you now know about). Shawn was a former Devgru Navy Seal and CIA operator who got training from MI6. He has great clips on various special operators and other "elite" forces such as Drug interdiction agents, intel agencies, etc. Has a few Brit guests, notably Obi wan Narobi (Craighead) and has plenty of interviews with guys like Nick all the way up to CIA guys. Also runs the gambit from some grunt troops all the way up to Drone operators.
Great interviewer and very engaging stories in his clips. In my mind he is the Joe Rogan of warfare podcasts.
That cammo ar is demolitias ar he used to sell , he had a line of riffles he had made for him to sell. That ak nick used in afganistan, so the cammo has a purpose, regular paint would stand out . He is one of the best snipers in the usa, so he did some crzy missions so he makes fun of his stories since he cant say what happend lol
as much as i love all black "murdered out" look it pops out so easily at a distance.
He's driving a Ford Raptor. The real, full size one, not the baby one based on the ranger like the rest of the world gets.
When it comes to reliability in adverse conditions, I highly recommend you watch garand thumb's videos documenting mud and ice tests on many different weapon systems. He's done several videos on that topic and they're all really fun to watch. Karl and Ian (InRange TV and Forgotten Weapons, respectively) have also done several videos on similar tests
my favorite weapon system is the one that gets the job done.
Nicholas Irving said a 50 cal would rip a limb off even if it missed by a few feet 😂
8:40 "that's not a pistol"
Nick is hilarious.
“I thought it would be by the other Stans”
“See that’s where they get you”
“I’ve said too much”
I choose secret option C. Sig spear.
btw this guys stories are true , as other commenters have said he is one the best snipers of the mordern times, he has the most kills for anyone in the us besides chris kyle
The reaper can give us story time anytime. 😂
bro said who is this guy about a guy named the reaper
Another plus for the AR is ammo weight.
Being far lighter you can carry more of it.
You should react to his whole collection. He has a few of them with all of his guns in them
I think you should watch Garand Thumb's videos on The Gun Mud and Ice tests. I would recommend the mud tests first as y'all would have a lot of that over there in the UK considering how much it rains. .
Garand Thumb does excellent winter and mud tests on these weapons. Very detailed. Might want to give it a look brother.
Love both the AR and the AK. I lean more on the AK platform. Lots of people still nowadays consider it outdated and unable to modernize, which may have been true some years ago. Nowadays there’s every upgrade available for the Ak.. just gotta know where to look. Scratched the shit out of it? Now it looks cooler 😎
Since you asked what we thought. If you put the Old School Cold War AK47/AK74 against the Cold War M16A1/M16A2 or AR15. Id take the "AK ALL DAY". But now after about 50 yrs of refinement of the AR Platform I prefer the AR.
I carried an M16A2 for 20yrs 1992-2012 and swore I would never own one based on the crappy old Colt's I had been issued. I stuck with my AK's with iron sights and never bothered with any AR. I retired in 2012 and about 4 yrs later a friend had a new AR and I shot it a few times. I immediately went out and got one as soon as I could. Now I have a couple AK's and too many AR's. And now that Im 50 yrs old I use an Optic. "The AK is more accurate than people think, and the AR is more reliable than people think"... I cant remember who said that.
4:11 I own both an AR is a better all around rifle since you can easily add attachments but an ak is a lot more fun to shoot so I’d go with an ak
I have several of both including AR's in 4 calibers. The AR is super versatile and accurate. For an absolutely reliable CQB gun the AK is it. AR's need to be run wet with a proper lubricant. You run an AK wet when you drop it in the mud.
You should watch garand thumbs mud test. It will change your mind about the ak being more reliable
Nick is an author and probably one of the deadliest snipers to serve that is still living..I believe he has like 33 confirmed kills.
The 33 confirmed kills, was just from a single deployment. Total number is not confirmed.
AR because I saw garand thumbs video where he tested both platforms to see how they would hold up to mud and such.
Demolition ranch makes some cool videos. Some of the ones i likebthe most are strange guns, and the videos of shooting random objects to see how many of them it takes to stop the rounds. Same with cubes of different metals.
he does a video where he shoots a 2000 dollar lock. the intro is hilarious
Modern AR15s are just a reliable and durable as any ak out there the whole reliability thing came from the original xm16e1 which was the experimental version of the m16 before it was adopted and became the m16 and m16a1s which there was a lot of corruption that went on with all of that it’s super interesting if you want to look at the history of all of that but the m16/ar15 style platform has become an extremely reliable and durable platform it’s just kept the reputation of being unreliable because when your talking about something that’s meant to protect your life it’s extremely hard to shake a bad reputation once you get it
Im an AR boy. The old school a1 and 605 are my favorite. But i love AKs too. I think the 105 is the best version of the AK.
A full metal jacketed Ak round will go right through and the wound will close. An AR round will tumble and fragment cause more that won't close and more damage.
its a story from a guy that apparently actually DID military shit and not just "waffled" about like you apparently christ-
These lads are great banter 😂
I have alot of training on m16 and m4 . I love both but if I had to choose 1 AR15. Modern AR15 s are extremely durable also. Good thing in USA can have both.
Nick has many many spines downrange and even one at home because someone fd around and found out on the pavement in broad daylight. Nick is on par with Chris Kyle. Except Nicks name isn’t a nickname and it’s the reaper. Super high speed tier 1 guy. Don’t mess with Nick.
Also, I go to AR. Because there's a lot of Ammo for it all around. It's the availability for this one
An Ak74 is my winter rifle because I don't trust direct impingement in cold, Daniel Defense Mk18 any other time
The Reaper is also a jiver. He's pretty funny sometimes.
If I were gonna go to war again in the desert environment, I would choose the AK platform, but for my own personal protection and shooting sports, I prefer the AR less recoil. You can stay on target better.
I'd say AR-15 for modularity and versatility, and AK's more locked in and focused for options which can be a good thing and a bad thing. (If I had to give an impromptu summary)
Single color guns through NODS stick out like a sore thump.. not a fan of wierd camos.. but.. there is a reason for it
I like ARs more, but AKs are more than capable for most purposes. I prefer the modularity of ARs and the wider availability of accessories in the U.S.
If I’m in a AK country I’m going with a AK,if I’m in America I’m going AR. For ammo reasons
AK-102 with Zenitco loaded with some *HOT* Romanian Surplus 5.56 (2850 fps out of the 12.4 in barrel). Spare parts and ammo accumulated quick during the golden era of the Orange Man presidency. Too bad everything was lost during a cruise to Turks and Caicos.
I own mid-tier both. There are allot of cheap junk ak’s on the US market. You can get a cheap junk AR too but now you can get a solid AR way less than a equal AK. I really like both but ill take the AR.
I'd take an AK but chambered in 5.45. Overall easier to maintain than an AR and the smaller caliber allows you to carry more of it weight/volume wise.
The Ukrainians been saying whoever said a AK doesn't jam never used one in combat. They certainly jam!
I prefer the AK myself. I got a zastava m70 zpap and in the process of building an AR. I just prefer the ruggedness, reliability and harder hitting round
I don't own or have experience in AKs but i do own AR's and i can say a modern moderately price AR will run forever as long as its well lubed.
MAC has a mid tier AR that they've ran over 8K rounds in over the past 5 years with no cleaning or lube, it's a much tougher platform that it gets credit for
I got to meet the dude who designed the ARAK! He came in to our range to test it out, that thing is siiiiick!
I think that was the Ford Raptor he sold to Whistlin Diesel
Tbh My favorite gun is the Tavor X95. Its basically a bullpup AR that uses the long stroke gas piston similar to the AK. Lol
Uses same mags and rounds as an AR15.
while Nick was a sniper with the Army Rangers, and was very good at it, he's also known to talk a lot of BS lol. i believe he made the claim that just the shockwave of a 50BMG projectile passing within a foot or two of you could remove body parts.
brother that first camo is beautiful lol call of duty, it would be very bright absurd colors lol is that not what a draco is? the second to last one, almost everyone says its useless from what ive seen btw this guy was a sniper in the army
It's gotta suck living in a country with so many firearm restrictions.
I can go out and buy a gun and I'm really only limited by what I can afford.
I dont have an AK but I wouldnt mind having one. I do however have an AR that I absolutely LOVE!!!!
The Wife calls it my Barbie because I'm constantly getting it new accessories which of course is half the fun of firearms.
I've mulled over getting an AK but havent pulled the trigger....pun intended.
I prefer an AR over an AK. There are more mods/options available. And I’ve found they are much easier for fast reloads and magazine seating.
"Green tip" = M855 = Steel core
The AK can easily penetrate brush. The AR bullet will tumble. Another pro for the AK.
As a hunter I can tell you that is bs. There is no such thing as a brush gun. Some projectile type i.e flat nose, deflect less but any contact causes deflection. Now distance from your target after hitting plays a big role in whether or not you hit the target. A brush gun is just easier to maneuver in the woods
