    The economical advantage about them is the fact that they die so fast, that most of them die before they can cash up their first check.

    So it’s possible that Gamoreans are cheaper than droids and are definitely cheaper than Mandalorians. Droids require upkeep, especially on desert planets where the sand can jam up joints or interfere with optics, not to mention the power requirements if you need to recharge them at regular intervals, plus they lack instincts for danger. Using them for indoor security as a reserve force will keep them out of the way and on standby if you base is attacked. Keeping a small group of Mandalorians around as a personal body guards allows you to bring them with you when you have to leave or return. Gamoreans more or less only need to be fed, given a place to eat and a weapon that doesn’t run out of energy that they can use in close quarters. Pretty cheap.

    • @vralingfrostmere1561
      @vralingfrostmere1561 2 года назад +16

      yeah, i was just about to comment that about droids, it's far cheaper to just keep them shut off in storage not using power and only activate them when you need them. speaking of which automated point defense turrets both for anti infantry and anti armor/air are highly useful.

    • @ekairim
      @ekairim 2 года назад +4

      a jedi once said "i hate sand"
      no kidding, sand is the arch enemy of everything. especially anything mechanical.
      but a droid emergency-response force inside your compound linked to the alarm could be useful. just keep enough "living" guards around for day to day operations.

      Funny thing about Luke, though Yoda says his training is complete, Luke's training never actually gets completed. Luke, on many occasions, displayed what some would consider to be dark side tendencies, and he used dark side abilities relatively often. Luke was not a typical jedi, he was prone to human weaknesses, something actual jedi were eager to reject. Human weaknesses, of course, leads to the dark side in some form.

      @@danielduncan6806 Luke did, initially, try to strike down the unarmed Emperor Palpatine on the 2nd Death Star, only to be thwarted by Vader. So, yeah, I can see that. I mean, as well, Luke force grabbed a blaster while standing before an unarmed Jabba, intending on using the blaster against the Hutt, (resulting in a visit to the rancor.) So, when push comes to shove, and he's not confronting an un-handed father figure (snark,) Luke can get pretty dark. And now that I've looked at it this way, Luke's attack on Ben Solo doesn't seem so implausible.

    I've always found the Gammorean Guard story from "Tales of Jabba's Palace" pretty funny. As pointed out in this video, Gammorean guards are quite dumb. However, according to the "Jabba's Palace" tale, the Gammorean, who ended up a snack to the rancor when he fell in with Luke, that guard was considered extremely dumb even by other Gammoreans. 😆

    i generally look at 3 questions to answer this.
    1- location: as your operating in the outer Rim your Tech-resources would be limited and hard to come by, while a automated defense system like landmines, droids, turrets etc would be powerful the maintenance of these could become a problem in the long run. recommend using meat-bags over droids for the main guard force.
    2- resources: what are the most resources available in the outer rim for defense. these would be mostly gangs, pirates, opportunists, and tribes. making deals with each comes with their own cost/benefit. but a loyal tribe-people would be most reliable cheap defense that had the least chance of taking arms against you when you play your cards right.
    3- enemies: what is the most likely foe you would have to deal with. this would be mostly other crime lords, pirates, raiders or the occasional bounty hunter or upset smuggler. very rarely would a police-force or army approach your compound as you need to deal with those dangers diplomatically or logistically. so you need security in some numbers with enough force to be a good deterrent but not too big to overly tax you, a small elite guard behind it for the more "difficult" visitors is recommended but loyalty might be your best defense as anyone in the outer rim has their price, but a honor-bound guard is harder to buy then a hired gun.
    so yes, Jabba's Palace operation was decently guarded for its purpose. i mean you do not expect a Sith or Jedi to kick in the door on your afternoon party after you made your monthly spice-trade deal?

    I would hire an army of them if they can be trained to use different melee weapons and equipment. The main problem with Gammorean guards is that they have no options to counter ranged attacks. Star Wars have shown several weapons that can be used to get into ranged combat. If they can use large shields like the Gungan or Mandalorian Guard, then Gammoreans can be highly effective. Alternatively, they can wear some beskar armor to tank some bolts. Of course, this means it may be hard to hire Mandalorian mercenaries.

    Anyone who has ever played _Bounty Hunter_ will know that Gardulla the Hutt went through a lot of Gamorrean Guards. If you think Jabba the Hutt was going through them fast, wait until you play as Jango Fett gunning down wave after wave of Gamorreans and other henchmen coming after you throughout her palace. Doesn't end well for Gardulla.
    In fairness, I'm sure it'd be pretty easy on the basis of how cheap they are, to form a pretty large private army of Gamorrean Guards. Especially in the pre-Clone Wars era when things were just less under the thumb. Criminals still thrived during both the Clone Wars and the Imperial Era, though there was something of a Wild West situation going on before at least some more powerful centralised Republic/Imperial military came along.
    I mean, look at Dooku - he was outright willing to murder Rotta the Hutt, Jabba's infant son. Dooku did not give a damn. Sith Lord after all. Few would dare cross the Hutts that way. Dooku doing that indicates how little the Sith give a shit about powers like the Hutt Cartels. For most folks, doing anything even close to that to the Hutts, would be a death mark that wouldn't go away.
    They'd be unable to show their face throughout entire star systems, even outside of Hutt Space. Dooku was one of those beings just beyond the Hutt influence. If they went after him with assassins and henchmen, they'd all just die anyway. Maul later killed his way to the heart of criminal operations at the end of the Clone Wars.
    After them, Vader also personally threatened Jabba in his own palace. At the end of the day, Dooku was Head of State for the Separatists and a powerful Sith Lord. Maul was a former/rogue Sith Lord with crime boss aspirations, and the new robot legs to show for it. Vader was, Vader. I mean, you know, no 2 in the entire Imperial power structure, beneath only Palpatine himself.
    Personally, I always saw it as the Empire turning a blind eye to the existence of the Hutts, because they had their tangential uses (e.g. for the sake of being helpful with corruption, bounty hunter pooling and generally 'taking care of' a large span of the Outer Rim which was still wild, with even the staggering resources and manpower of the Empire, spread out so thinly that worlds like Tatooine were simply on the limits and borderlines of Imperial reach - exacerbated by the events of the Galactic Civil War, when the Empire needed all the help it could get simply not to tear itself apart with the strain of fighting a galaxy wide war which turned into the hardest game of whack-a-mole ever seen, at least not counting the Forerunner-Flood War)
    In my opinion, I think that if the Empire eventually became so powerful that it could afford to suppress the Hutts and destroy Hutt Space, then they would. Why negotiate terms with them or tolerate their duplicitous existence? Anakin knew the Hutts for what they really were and the Emperor did too. It wasn't that they couldn't wipe them out. It's that it made more practical sense for them to tackle one issue at a time. Rebels first, everyone else later.
    Now I'm imagining a Gamorrean Legion established on Nar Shaddaa in the post-Imperial era by some Hutt or other. We never see the Hutts in the sequel trilogy, though. I'm not sure what was supposed to have gone down there, as after Jabba's demise, I think other Hutts were removed from power. I speculate. I cannot be sure. But you'd think even the fairly weak and militarily exhausted New Republic would struggle to deal with them after Jakku. Then again, I still think that at least some Hutt holdouts would be out there in the Outer Rim, way beyond the means of the New Republic to deal with.
    Was Grand Master Luke Skywalker and the New Jedi Order, dealing with the Hutts? After taking care of Jabba, the rest of the Hutt crime lords would certainly have been in Luke's sights. I mean, why not? I'm pretty sure they'd be high on the priority list to be dealt with judiciously by the Jedi. They'd likely be working with Imperial Remnant factions (and the Imperial Remnants would oblige them, in dire straits themselves, unable to be too picky about whom their 'associates' were) Likewise, the Galactic Civil War would have impacted Hutt profits across the Outer Rim. Oh what could have been had Disney had actually competent writers. Instead, we're supposed to believe the First Order conquered the entire galaxy in like 2 days. FFS.

    Gammoreans were certainly a cheaper option than keeping Mandalorians or Trandoshans on staff, as while both of those races were very efficient but would cost much more for the Hutts. Especially if they were hired to be guards for their palaces and would likely get pulled off of their guard duty to do a job for someone who would hire them. So having a primitive, brutish race like the Gammoreans were ideal as palace guards for regular usage as no one would likely hire them to handle something like claiming a bounty, handling black market deals, or basically anything that required usage of more than one brain cell. In other words, the Gammoreans were perfect for serving as everyday palace guards as they are expendable brutes who were easy to hire as palace guards and weren’t likely to ever uprise against their Hutt boss for better working conditions and pay.
