    • @girlgarde
      @girlgarde 2 года назад +16

The Empire just used that argument as an excuse to enslave certain species. Palpatine and those Humans who're Human supremacists were constantly finding excuses to enslave alien races and the "not sentient because they can't speak basic" argument is just one of many colourful excuses that the Empire came up with.

You see a similar idea to many imperialist and colonialist civilizations in history. They thought of other societies or cultures as more primitive or lesser because they didn't urbanize, had more communal views of property and land, or didn't have cash based economies.
It's the stereotypical view that societies are sliding scales of primitive --------> advanced, rather than the reality that, like in actual evolution, societies adapt to their pressures and needs.

People generally don't like being punished out of nowhere, so if they think the reasoning for their punishment is flimsy, they'll act out. The Rebel Alliance is proof of this. Motivation by reward, conversely, is far more reliable on account of people generally liking being rewarded for doing well. Basically, a crime lord hiring a bounty hunter to bring in a rival would be more likely to have them brought in alive if they promise to cover the cost of the hunter's celebratory dinner than if they threaten to cut the bounty in half if they receive a corpse.

Besides certain aspects like the more-than-typical warmongering and the rigid gender roles (they arent the only species to do that mind you, Tusken Raiders I recall have that problem too, and our own real world ancestors for that matter), as well as other aspects, they are in fact just like our ancestors.
In fact, the whole idea reminds me of how natives from less technologically advanced countries are in our world's history. They were never stupid, inferior, and certainly weren't "savages" or anything the colonizers would claim, they just happened not to advance technologically as far as the rest of the world for one reason or another, but pretty much 9/10 times if not straight up 10/10 times, they had societies that at least functioned, they were just as civilized as anyone else, and the Gamorreans and Tuskens remind me of that too in a way.

We immediately see Gamoreans as beings with a big capacity of loyalty. I must admit, after seeing their crude, incompetent and somewhat dim-witted nature in RTOJ and in the animated stuff, I thought boba had made a mistake in sparing 2 guards of the same species. During the Assasin’s fight in TBOBF Ep 1, I was immediately proven wrong. Sparing your enemies when they could otherwise have been killed and then offering them to work for you can definitely work in your favour.
An example of this in real life was during one of the rebellions against Henry VII. The main figure of the rebellion was a youngish person and Henry realised he was a pawn in the plan of other aristocrats. So he spared the main figurehead of this rebellion and gave him a job in the royal kitchens, and his gratefulness led him to never be part of any further rebellions.

THe topic of Gamorreans not being able to speak Basic also was mentioned by Wedge Antilles in the novel Wraith Squadron. When Wes Janson mentioned that one of the candidates for the squadron was a Gamorrean.
Tho Wedge didn't question the candidates intelligence, he more wondered about the hormones that made especially male Gamorreans aggressive and the language problem.
It turned out to not be a problem however because the individuum in question, Voort SaBinring, was modified in a resarch facility with a superhuman control over his anger and a translator implanted in his throat.
Maybe an video about him would be in order.

Also, there was a Gamorrean in the novel The Crytos Trap that was also shown to had some common sense. He contracted the virus and noticing it, he quarantined himself in his home by changing the codes for the locks (he was living on Corouscant btw). While he met his own grisly demise through the virus, he also made sure that his sow would not contract the virus through him.

One of the greatest aspects amongst many for the book of boba fett so far is like the shows before it, giving more context to certain elements of the environments making them feel more characteristic and making the world feel lived in. You feel at home in Tatooine, you feel like you know its people backwards and forwards and its adding more life to a planet we thought we knew enough of. Absolutely brilliant world building as always with Star Wars.

I always thought that the Gamorreans seen in RotJ were more like something from a ‘He-Man’ or ‘Conan’ style 80’s fantasy, than Star Wars. I didn’t like them for that reason, but now I feel it’s the bulk of their design’s appeal.

You say that the Gamorreans are dumb but yet supposedly smart enough to hang back till just the right moment when Boba was being attacked by the nightwind.
Personally I saw their charge as they were doing something else like eating, got distracted, then came out and were like oh shit our boss is under attack!
Plus hiring bodyguards whose previous TWO employers were assassinated doesn't exactly testify to their prowess.

The Book of Fett has shown us our preconceptions of the "stupid" races, such as Gamorreans and Tuskens, is seriously unfounded.... perhaps you can not judge a book by it's cover :)

0:34-0:37: Gamorrean's are Transformers!? And suddenly they are a lot cooler to me now.
Also, I've been enjoying the Book of Bboba Fett so far, although the start was a little slow, but much like Mandalorian, it was using that slow start to build up its cast, characters, and even its setting of Tattoine(I'm not extremely well versed in the old EU, so I'm seeing many parts of Tattoine I didn't know about for the first time here). So that was pretty good and now it looks like with how episode 4 ended that we're building to something bigger and cooler which I can't wait to see.

TBBF seems really... Disney. It's one thing to try building your empire around respect vs fear and another entirely to behave as though fear is something to be avoided. We see the consequences of ruling through fear in the original trilogy, and we see countless examples in TBBF in which the lack of fear from their opponents caused countless deaths (even to the point of wondering was it all worth it). Lucas and Disney have tried very hard to keep this reality from being perceived by their audiences, but in reality this is why Solo shooting first was such a monumental moment... it was the emergence of consequence vs idealistic perspectives of right and wrong. Solo had no particular culture he was trying to protect, if anything his culture was that of the smuggler (profit at all cost). Boba assumes all profit from his predecessors so it makes some sense that his goals would be more ideal, it also makes sense considering his background and his time with the sand people. However, while idealism often marks in most people's eyes the height of a civilization that perception is most often due to the overwhelming odds of said civilization crumbling soon after... it's a questionable approach to running an empire but a far more stupid approach to starting an empire (and we see him realizing this by the end, when he says that they're not right for this position... but something that simple and precedent should not have taken someone like Boba so long to realize and should have been more like second nature to his understanding of the galaxy by then). All together, while appreciated for the extension of lore I find TBBF to be an overly expositional take on rather simplistic philosophical constructs. :(

0:00: Hmm, calling Alt-universe Boba Fett a daimyo sure fits him.
I've seen better guards though, one example being the Sardaukar.
Was it even wise for Boba to keep them around though? We already saw what "Santy" did to him while he was on his "Polynesian spa", and they weren't even around immediately to help him out.
