my daughter was 7 learnt in the band room on a £50 trumpet took her 2 yrs to finish beginner class she got in the band proper and i did my homework and bought her a Yamaha 4335 silver plate she just finished her Uni music degree and her recital on it,,,yep she still has it she is 22 now..
The last note of "Never Gonna Give You Up" sounded a touch flat when compared with the next-to-last note. I wonder if the first-valve or second-valve tuning slide needs to be adjusted.
This general vein of trumpets tends to exaggerate the usual flaws of the harmonic series, which means a chronically flat open E and sharp G at the top of the staff. The last two notes were F and Eb, the former belonging to the G partial and the latter to the E. It follows, then, that the Eb is flatter than it needs to be and the F potentially slightly sharper. Unfortunately this is a hump that Chinese manufacturers have yet to conquer. I recently reviewed a similar trumpet and the playing tests make a similar issue evident.
Thank you for this video. I want to surprise my husband with a trumpet for his birthday. In high school he had to use the schools instruments and has been wanting his own for a long time.
“Cheap as chips.” I like that. (Speaking of which, I love fish & chips but unfortunately they’re very hard to find in the US. I bet they’re quite readily available in New Zealand, though. Lucky you!)
I still have my King 601 I got new when I started band in 1990. My oldest has played it the past four years. I prefer my 1994 601SP when I have to break out a trumpet (I am primarily tuba/euphonium/bass trombone now).
As ambivalent as I am about buying Chinese at this point, I have a Chinese-made Besson "student" horn that blows amazingly well. I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between it and my Getzen Eterna Severinsen.
I have to nitpick. I own an LA Olds special cornet in good condition that I bought recently on ebay for $225. It needed a 2mm square of aluminum tape to firm up the seal on the 2nd valve slide. It's a bebop and ballad monster. There are a ton of very good pro or pro-like cornets available if you want to dig deep. Trumpets are harder to do, because of the popularity. Flugels are tough too. But cornets that are better than a student bach or yamaha... theres tons. There's a Martin Committee cornet on ebay usa right now for $750 usd obo. Some reviewer said he prefers his Martin Indiana cornet an I bought one of those (pre RMC) for $15 plus shipping... So I'm good... even though it could be better. But I digress, there are plenty of playable and giggable horns. You don't need to buy shiny garbage, u will need the help of a player to find them though. Ok, you want a real pro trumpet on the cheap... 1970's 600 and 700 series yamaha. They are available under $1000 usd in very good condition. That's my main horn ytr632, though I'm in the market again for something truly special, if it exists, which I'm not convinced it does. I'll find out some day when my chops are peaking and I have the right committee and a wad to spend all at the same time. In the mean time, skip the LA ambassador and go with an LA olds special or a studio and don't over spend. Really you just need to know the first horn is usable, and random chinese horns fail that test. Find a player and have a $200-$300 budget and take their good faith leftovers. Thats my advice.
Don't expect the "silver" to last more than a couple years at the outside, at which point the instrument will look splotchy and gross. It may well still play just fine though, so if you're looking for something to march in the rain with, here you go.
Trololo? In 2020? This does put a smile on my face.
welp i got rickrolled for the first time in about 8 years
still just as funny
Stop the cap bro
Dangnabbit, he rick rolled us. Oh you Trent!!!
Just like the time gravity pulled a little sneaky on Trent that time on the contrabass trombone introduction video
o o f i remember that. As a bass trombonist, "I feel my heart crack!"

My friend has a silver Yamaha trumpet and it plays beautifully. Great choice!
Getting rickrolled by a trumpet hit different.
Silver with engraved logos and lacquered gold are always gonna be my favorite brass types

Very honest definition of 'professional ' as that word is used a lot with little clarification until now.😀 Thank you.
It has been a long time that I heard the trololo song! Thanks for reminding me of its existence :)
What do you think about Kurt Thompson?

Trent, you are correct, that horn looks the part of a pro level horn. The more important question how does it sound, and does it play in tune??
Love you trent! Keep up the awesome content!

It does sound like a trumpet. Or is it the puny little no good speaker in my phone fooling me?
You got me at the end 😅
It looks very much like the Hunter trumpets that George Rawlins was promoting as a Solista

Looks like a pretty inexpensive knock off of a Schilke

Actually, TomTop got rickrolled.
Great video!
Nice using "Africa" by Toto for the tag on the end!
Cute. 7/10
I just got rick rolled by Trent 😔
Valve trombone in background 👀
Heck, there appears to be a French horn with piston valves in the background, too!
@@rogermwilcox That’s a mellophonium.
@@sceu25 : I take it a mellophonium is different from a mellophone, in that the former looks more like a French horn?
$189.99😍
Shipping is $100 💀
Did we just get Rick rolled?
this guy is like shadiversity but for instruments.
this is a cheap one
