I love how they have a treble clef on the counterweight of a TROMBONE
Trombones can play in treble clef.
The Lazy Jolteon Yeah and a clarinet "can" play in bass clef
But it doesn't really happen, you know?
Why is Louis Dowdeswell your profile picture?
Quinn Parker Because he's a badass
Maxwell Osborn It does happen. When trombone plays in treble clef, it transposes. It is uncommon, however. Clarinet cannot play bass clef because it lacks the ability to transpose its music into it. Bass clarinet can, though mostly does not.
mouth of euphomum killed me
As a euphomum player, yes.
RUclips knows me well. I know nothing about trombones, I got this recommended to me, liked the video for sure.
Clearly RUclips knows that you're a connoisseur of quality content like this.
Sezze's Stuff same here man
Sezze's Stuff same here
Sezze's Stuff yep same
I played trombone in high school. The last time I picked one up was over a decade ago. I haven't watched, or searched for anything related to trombones recently to the best of my recollection. Yet I got this video as a recommendation. Weird.
...is my preferred lubricant, In the music world and beyond." Erm.
MyTube6444 ikr I heard that to and was like what... And I also went from The bee movie but every time they say bee it gets a little faster #RUclips

"the lubricant i prefer in and out of the music world" LMAO
Sooooo glad my old man bought me a Conn 88H when I was in high school. 44 years later I wouldn't trade it for ANY other horn. It's truly one of the greatest trombones ever made.
I got a used 6H, I won't change either! 😊
Doesn't seem like it sounds much worse than a typical student model. Certainly very viable for a beginner, and it looks like the case holds up. Very unlike the trumpet which seemed mainly fit for the pits of hell.
i played one of those models in a jr. high band, and it was much older, and sounded pretty good compared to this one.
supyoist I'd say it sounded good enough too. but we're wrong hahahahha. a bad or out of tune instrument could turn a kid away from practice. and make a good player sound wonky. I'd say, for practice, it's perfectly fine. but to really know if an instrument is for you, or to really sound your best, you gotta try the real deal.
I've taught a variety of instruments and there are really two primary reasons my beginners would quit. One, they were being forced to play, and two, their instrument made it difficult for them to play. If parents insist on the first, at least they should be willing to invest a few hundred dollars on a decent used instrument or a rental to avoid the second. I understand the prices differ between types of instruments, but the difference between a shitty $100 Yamaha guitar and a used $250 Ibanez guitar is beyond description.
Amy Johnson totally agree, almost quit playing trombone a few times when I had my pBone because it frustrated me so much.
False
the 1 dislike is the guy that made the trombone
Two now!!
11 now. Probably the entirety of the employees of the company that made the trombone.
zchen27 hahaha lol

still has a better tone than any of the trombones in my school xD.

This guy thinks that trombone sounds bad? I have one that sounds like a big metal kazoo.

This was in my recommended, and I have no idea. I know nothing about trombones or do I care about them. But I have to say I love this guy, don't understand what he's talking about, but he seems great so I subscribed, cheers trombone fella
The cheapest trombone is rusty and free.
manictiger mine wasn't free
Brandan Hickman
Joke
Your head
Brandan Hickman Unless of course your joke went over my head, and you meant you payed to get a rusty trombone.
OH NOOO
brass... uh... doesn't rust m8
I'm sorry . . .did he say AN case?
No, he said ANAL case.
Look up trombones made by Stagg. Significantly more expensive (my student model was $400), but comparable quality. The slide, in terms of corrosion, was actually worse. My spit turned green, because that's the colour brass corrodes as. With a light tap I completely bent the spit valve out of position. The Case was also awful in its own unique ways, with the handle coming off and all the padding actually being empty space, resulting in a massive case for no real protection.
Upon getting it out of my life, rather than donating it to my local high school's music department, I donated it to the drama department. It was better served as a prop that could be bumped and pushed around without fear of damage. The music department actually *rejected* it, a free horn for a cash-strapped music program, because of its quality.
As a result, I not-so-endaringly for most of its use called it the 'ghetto-bone'.
I'd like to have seen it side by side with a much better trombone.
Retarc Carter The main thing I can point to, just from listening, is how tinny and hollow it sounds. The sound doesn't really fill the room, essentially.
Trust me... it's awful! Thin, metallic, and out of tune.
I'll be honest I just clicked this vid cus I saw a Trombone. I heard you play in the beginning and was like "wow this guys shit..." then later on in the vid you called out all the stuff I heard on the trombone so the fact you can hear the garbage emitting form that disgrace makes me happy. I revoke my previously incorrect statement,
i bought a trombone for 8 bucks at a flea market
You win.
i got a trumpet for free...do i still win?
The Opals DJ And me.
I didn't pay anything and I also didn't get an instrument so I win.
Mei y
You Win!
Maybe you should have played a few licks on this horn and then on a "proper" trombone so the viewer could hear the difference...
Jim Paradis I agree with you
I love your sense of humor, I was laughing for a good part of the video.
Right? The moment when he discovered the hair in the mouthpiece had me rolling. He literally did a double take mid-sentence.
World's cheapest tuba/euphonium next?
@@ian-go1ih Ah yes
This is clearly a instrument for kids that are just starting, the gloves gave it away.
Deses Still bad even for a beginner horn. And that’s coming from a guy who hated his beginner trombone (Starter Holton, TR602).
the freaking gloves ahahaa
This mess would discourage any kid's starting enthusiastic attitude - get them a better instrument in the first place - don't destroy their favorite new toy with Chinese crap.
I'd call it a tin slide whistle that doesn't even measure up to my original trombone in it's dinged up, home done soldered together, bent slide state my mother bought new for me in 1967.
Savage xD..
I gotta love watching TH’s back wall collection of instruments grow, in the videos following this one after December .
Why does it have a treble clef sticker?
You had one job (Music Edition)
Tromboness can play treble clef but its rare search it up
It might be the company logo
Why does this keep showing up in my recommended ! 😂
Probably because it's an awesome video.
that's the greatest reply ever.. lol
You are right.
I got this one in my recommended too. I forgot I was subbed for a little bit lol
I am a grade 4 trombone player who has played for two years and i recently stumbled upon your channel, by far the most helpful yet. I think that the triple tonging video was very helpful so thank you for that, keep up the good work.
This guy is like the Sean Connery of the brass instrument world. I love it!
I don't even question what videos I end up in on RUclips anymore. Good video, Trent.
I loved the visual festival part. Thanks for making my hangover go away from all the crying an laughing that occurred. You rock.
What is remarkable to me is how good you make this shabby horn sound. You'd make playing the phone book sound fantastic.
Even though I'm not a Trombone player, your exposition of this Trombone in this video is absolutely glorious. Congratulations.
I don't regret this video being in my recommend. Good Job.
Swap mouthpieces with something that is usable and larger, might fix some intonation issues if the instrument and improve quality. Overall seems like it would be good for marching :) probably the only practical use though.
Yea I was actually wondering how it would sound if it didn't have a euphomum mouthpiece. Probably still crappy, but at least it would rule out whether or not the mouthpiece is contributing to the problem.
Would you say it was a rusty trombone?
"it sucks all the pleasure and enjoyment from playing and makes everything much harder than it should be"
...suddenly sounds a lot worse.
Zayzon188 I rather think I'd prefer a rusty trombone any day.. 🤣

Trent's videos are always fun. This one is hilarious!
Hmmmm... thats a nice $80 case you have there. And I see it even came with a free trombone. What a bargain!
This or the world's cheapest trumpet: which is less worse?
Probably this is marginally better. The other instrument feels like it'll make you ill, this instrument just saps all the enjoyment out of life.
Trent Hamilton indeed
This isn't as bad as the trumpet.
If a plastic trombone is better than this, then you know something's wrong.
it comes with tiny gloves im fuckingf crying
Our directors 10 year old daughter joined us in pep band one day. She brought her own trombone, which was a smaller version, but also plastic and purple.
I think the treble clef on the counterweight is a great touch.
There is a trombone and trumpet at my school band room that are literally made entirely of plastic
pBones are still better than this thing xd
We have those as well, one's red and one's silver. Neither of our trombones (there's two) use them while actually seriously playing though.
ptrumpet, pbone are actually quite nice. Trent reviewed one or the other. have a peek around YT. pro's actually were impressed with them
You are good on all of the instruments I have heard you on but somewhat better on trombone and baritone. Thank you once again for the informative and entertaining videos.
as a player myself, the thing that bothers me most is that treble clef decal
I went to volunteer with a Salvation Army brass band and discovered that the only parts in bass clef were contrabass tuba and bass trombone. 1st and 2nd trombone were in transposing treble clef, just like trumpet music. You had to be a trumpet player in order to play tenor trombone for them.
You are so goddamn sarcastic in every thing you say I love it
I think the better thing that come out of this is the mouth piece box, it just seems more fancy then it should be
It sounds very sharp and also very bright. Sort of airy or breathy even
god, it sounds as if there was a dead animal inside it, make it stop
Why was this recommended to me at the side of a Corvette ZR1 review? Not complaining though that's a really cool vid you got there. thumbs up :)
musclcarmaniac98 dang you Doug Demuro
I love this "Worlds Cheapest (insert instrument name here)" series. You get to see quality manufacturing such as the "Mouth of Euphomum".
Great display piece, wall hanger, restaurant/bar/pub decor.......
Oh hey I bought one of these once. We used it as a prop for a film. Works great as a prop! I can vouch for the fact that the slide feels like you're scraping material off, though.
that's the trombone my school gave me to play
I feel bad for you.
You make it sound good to my ear!
It sounded pretty good at the start of the video :/
The quality lapping air tightness of the joints and slide contribute greatly to the ability to phrase well. I picked up a trombone at a pawn shop that they just wanted to get rid of. I was able to seal a leak in one of the joints, but I had no remedy for the poor tolerances in the slide. It played a little better.
that trombone is a 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% MISTAKE AND A DISGRACE TO ALL TROMBONES
I don't know much about music, but I do like this channel.
I dunno why I like this channel so much I'm not even a brass player
I'm a Bass Clarinet player and even I can tell how bad this sounds.
I'm a percussionist, and I'm pretty sure that that specific trombone would sound better as a percussion instrument.
TenZEDin Well, u don't have to be a cook to know that bad food is..
I'm a percussionist and string musician and I can tell it's not good. It sounds kinda....messy. Probably because the slide is stiff to operate which makes faster playing and jumps between positions harder.
Thanks! I was about to by that one instead of a Bach for band class back in 2018!
It seems like it's guaranteed to make the player "clam" a few notes! 🙂 You make it sound much better than any student could, yet it still seems like it would serve best as a wall decoration. (The person could brag, "and it actually can be played!") I'd like to hear a side-by-side comparison, of the same piece, between this cheapie and a really fine instrument. In fact, it would be interesting to hear a quality MID-PRICED "student" instrument, (say $400-500), compared, too!
Great videos, Trent! You are obviously a virtuoso brass player.
Thank you for providing this public service. It would prove your point even more to the un-initiated if you played those excerpts back-to-back with a quality instrument.
This completely gives me nostalgia of my first trombone
I did enjoy the review , i myself do play trombone and have had a selmer largo , king 4b, and for the last 35 years have played on a Reynolds Contempora w/ red brass bell and an Argenta solid nickel silver
this is my favorite youtube channel
You have the best humor ever
If this is the same company, I have a similar model with an F trigger. It was gifted to me by a friend, and I'm getting some okay tone out of it, albeit being 7 years removed from regular trombone playing.
I'm still grateful.
5:00 I love how the first image is "MADE IN CHINA" XD
I am a euphonium player and I am so hurt that they didn't change the spelling on the box, they just kept euphomum
I didn’t notice that
A glove and box review too? How exciting!
Great companion video to the "world's cheapest trumpet". Thanks!
+Trent Hamilton I have seen this video many times ... And laughed every time . What is your opinion on DEG brand instruments and the King 2280 euphonium
That mouthpiece box is the same box as my tuba mouth piece... Best mouthpiece I have ever owned
I love that people realize what the meaning of true brass music is, I play the Trombone myself, And I have a passion for the sound of wind instruments, They mean alot to me
So its just another instrument of torture...
Very cool Video. I play trumpet and trombone and its pretty fun. Also I just subbed
At first glance, I thought this was the Etude 100 series student trombone. Which I happen to own.
*complains about quality* *it was only $80, what do you expect...
sick video!
Maybe they put Grease in the slides that's why there are black oils in its slides, the grease is very dangerous for the Trombone's slides and even on its players..
I can't really speak for Trombones, but you get a similar "black oil" on valves when they're new - it's basically very fine metal dust (where the two parts rub together, a little comes off) that gets suspended in the lubricant and turns the lubricant black.
It shouldn't be a major concern, it happens to a lot of new instruments (I've had that experience with every new instrument I've come into contact with).
True Friends Films Good for roller bearings though.
"If the glove don't fit you must acquit"
Can you please do a video on the French Horn? I play the horn and really want to see a video on it by you.
This came in a recomended for a nintendo switch video. That's incredible, that is hillarious.
I got Startone SSL-45 Bb-Tenor Trombone (case, lubricant, mouthpiece & cleaning rod included) @ Thomann.de 12 months ago for €111. I have to admit the slide needed a proper wash in a lukewarm soapy water to work smoothly, but since then it gives me nothing but pleasure. Best starter kit ever if you don't want to invest a lot of money when you are still not sure if trombone is your thing.
both in the music world AND out of it? what else you using that lube for?
oh saxing and sexing, they go so well together
not a trumpet person at all, never played one, and it sounds just fine to me.
oh, nevermind. its terrible.
Bob Shneizenheimer lmao
Same here
Its a trombone...
Watch your back. For misjudging instruments.
Hey Trent, just out of curiosity, how long have you been a trombonist? I'm in middle school and I have a King Trombone. Even with that trombone, you sound even Better than me.
I have a bad trombone. The paint rubbed off even though I have only had it for 3 years. It is a tenor trombone, but it is smaller than all the other trombones. The slide is loud, and the slide lick hit against the slide every time I pulled it in because the slide lock stuck out. The metal inside the slide peels off in flakes and even though I clean it, my spit comes out silver due to the silver flakes.
Basically in life, you get what you pay for.
Not so with a trombone. A very expensive horn may not be the best for you. A cheaper one may play better and even have a smoother slide action for you. Student models are often made stronger for the wear they must endure.
Gerald Nichols Jesus dude, he didn't ask for a paragraph essay on the subject.
Nate Knerem, 4 sentences a bit much to you? Lol
thats not even a paragraph
Gotta love some of that euphomum.
I use Nivea or ponds cold cream for my slide. It's really slick and fast as well as it lasts me a couple weeks all I need to do is spray it with water when I first put it on
Oh my god I can't stop laughing. At first I thought this was some SNL sketch but than I checked his channel and theres so much more. I don't know maybe he's doing it ironically but oh my god it's been 12 legitamate minutes and I'm still laughing
I love how when you play a cheap instrument, a slideshow starts with pictures of everything wrong with The Cheap Instrument.
