Yeah that tone was beautiful it was powerful resonant while the high notes where clear colorful full of life while the low notes were deep warm and strong it was truly a once in a lifetime performance
10/10 great sound. The sound is so clear and groundbreaking that the emotion that could be used to play with it is overwhelming. It really touches my soul through the screen. The contrast of piano and forte which are randomly played remind me of the struggles of life and how you have to keep moving on, despite what is thrown at you. The broken valve reminds me that even if you are broken you can rest assured that your friends will be there for you to help you out. And those valves? They had the most perfect circles I have ever witnessed. Not even a computer could generate such a perfect circle. Oh and it could play all the notes with such passion. It definitely is a fun yet serious instrument. I would definitely play it in my orchestra. My music teacher would probably be happy to hear that for hours. In fact, we should start a petition that every country has to play this cornet while students take important tests. It would relax the minds of students and make them want to work. And don't even get me started on the flawless condition that it had. It DEFINITELY had everything it guaranteed. I don't know why anyone would dislike it. Anyone who hears it is most likely blessed for eternal life and guaranteed to go to heaven. The angels probably play this, in fact, the saints do. This is one of the most magical, beautiful, graceful instruments I have had the privilege to hear.
Some may not like it, but this is trumpet performance at it's absolute peak, just shower your ears with the privilege of hearing such a mighty instrument tackle such an easy song for a mighty ruler like it. 9:19
Re: The valve marked "34"... Some very serious pro instruments have valves numbers that aren't simply "1-2-3" - obviously not the case here, but probably for the same reason: if you build a batch of valves and valveblocks and you number them all individually (for that batch) then you can make sure the correct valves end up in the correct instrument... My old Selmer K-Mod (since departed) had valves numbered in the hundreds!
There was a version of 'Carnival of Venice" played on an old kids' show, maybe an episode of the Little Rascals, that sounded as if it was played on that cornet. I tried to find it, but it wasn't easily dredged out of apocrypha. I used to play a bunch of brass instruments, but a car accident in 2006 left me with a severely limited lift weight and endurance. A full-metal instrument is simply too heavy for me to hold nowadays. The moment arm on my shoulders and neck is too great and the pain is incredible. But I found that the Tromba ABS plastic trumpet is quite playable, weighing only 500 grams. Another playable instrument, designed primarily for kids and beginners, but still usable, is the Nuvo JHorn. Another plastic instrument, it reminds me strongly of the Tenor (Alto) Horn. It has a hybrid piston/rotary valve system that reminds me of a locomotive drive wheel arrangement, with a piston arm pushing an eccentric wheel to rotate the valve body. Both are very lightweight and I can play them long enough to be worthwhile. I also have the Nuvo JSax, which I can make decent music on, given it's an all-plastic instrument with plastic reed, and that I've never played a saxophone before. But the strangest of the lot is a Roland AE-01 Aerophone, a MIDI wind controller with built-in synth that can be set to sound like a flute, violin, trumpet, or soprano sax. It has a "trumpet fingering" mode that I find rather opaque, so I use the sax fingering when in trumpet mode. It's not half bad, and I can add virtual instruments through an Android app on my phone, or I can plug it straight to my computer with USB and use it with a DAW as a plain MIDI controller.
as a cornet player I was legit gagging, not only is this "instrument" really bad, it is the worst and most disgusting cornet I've have ever seen. I got a new title for the video "the worlds cheapest piece of scrap metal
@Justin Y. I honestly don't know what's wrong with you. Chances are you made that up and are a shitty person, and the other way is that instead of calling the cops on your dad for hitting you, which is what you should have done, you complain about someone with legitimate opinions about a shitty cornet. It's shitty; deal with it.
I recently got something similar off eBay. The one I received came with a case and has a trumpet mouthpiece receiver (and a mouthpiece that fit wobbily, but the receiver fits my Bach mouthpiece well enough)...and of course that smell. Pretty sure the smell is molybdenum disulfide; clearly they lubricated the valve threads and slides with whatever axle grease they had lying around. Valve quality is somewhat better that what you have. Played shite at first, but a good pipe cleaning and valve swab-out and relubrication made it much more playable. I have a mouthpiece adapter on order (from a reputable source); hopefully this will at least sound close enough to an actual cornet once I get my Yamaha mouthpiece in it. Bought this because I wanted something to practice on until I can get my old YamaConn Director back in playable condition.
Trent Hamilton whenever you play something on one of the cheap instruments you should compare it to a better/more expensive one + 2nd person to comment on this video
It would be fun to see a repair expert attempt to bring this instrument into playable condition (coat, hone, polish, port, pad, etc.) I wonder how far one could go?
Trent, I have that exact cornet and it’s counterfeit stamped Blessing with a serial number dating 1910. It’s horrible. The valves are rough just like yours. My repair shop thought it was an Indian knock off made to pass as a Blessing. I may hang it on the wall but that’s it. Caveat Emptor.
This is why I pretty much always buy used. I’ve been a woodwind player for a long time, and recently wanted to try getting into brass. Bought a used getzen tone balanced super deluxe cornet online. It’s great, I have absolutely zero complaints. 70 years old and just over 100USD shipped to my door
BTW monel is a lead alloy that was used to coat steam engine parts and lap to size before precision grinding was invented. it is acid resistant but wears away quickly so people who own bach strads are sending their horns in to have the monel replaced and resized every 3-5 years that play many hours per week
I'm in stitches. I needed this laugh. lol This thing isn't worthy for department stores. "Totally gig ready." 😂 It's like a 14 year old wrote the description. And your little showcase at the end had me laughing. I could imagine your face as you shake your head while compiling this video. lol My day has been made. Thank you.
I'm not a band player of these instruments but have potential to learn them as an adult. I do however work with wood, if you bought a round wood pole it would saved you sanding. Home Depot sells them which could saved you from what could been serious belt sander injuries. In my opinion you could have had someone with a lathe to round it for you as well. Which would been a lot safer than a belt sander
When you played "In the Mood" you scared the hell out of me since I've been singing that song all morning and it's been weeks since I heard it for the last time 😅
I recently bought a used euphonium from someone who included a screen shot of the item on amazon. When I checked it out, one of the comments mentioned a strong, nasty smell, especially the case. When I picked it up, I understood the smell thing and immediately sent it off to get cheek cleaned. I didn't pay much and it functions, so I'm ok with the deal, but the other weird issue is it turns my hands black! I think the finish is THAT easy to rub off
In case you all are wondering in the sped up part of the video he first says, “I will now open this.” And the second time he says, “I am being very careful and (something) as to not scratch the instrument at all.”
waddyer talkin about it - its gig ready if you are going to haunt a house or provide sonic pest control. :P I suppose you could use it to clear the room as well.
Any chance the valves are capable of locking in backwards like some of the ones from the 1920's? I had an old cornet that I'd have to try playing and repositioning the valves every time I oiled them. With the valves in backwards it made a muffled poot sound much like that.
Next up, make a video trying to get the best performance out of this. I'd start by polishing the valves with some trusty old wet/dry and then autosol metal polish. Fix the other problems with a hammer.
I recall that my cornet stank too. I flushed it with water once in a while but it still stank. Maybe should have used liquid soap. If you don't brush your teeth before playing, the food particles go into the cornet along with the usual saliva.
Respirator. Not even sure if it's good for asbestos (actually *not* toxic just very small & sharp, so it'll slice up your DNA, and if the cells are living, will cause cancer). And asbestos isn't *_nearly_* as small as *gas* molecules.
TRENT! How the heck can you play that riff at 9:09 on that monstrosity - without laughing? I kept rewinding that section and after a few times - I was ON THE FLOOR, laughing like a hyena...My question is this: Why even MAKE something as flawed as this? What a WASTE of brass (or maybe, it ISN'T brass - it's MONEL?) I thought my ancient 60 year old 'Oxford' cornet was terrible - but THIS? O M G. I haven't played the Oxford in a decade - but, after picking myself off the floor - I gave it a whirl. Wow. Thank you for making my day! James in Toronto
This is the first cheap instrument that I have seen that I would steer people away no matter what. Sometimes it is better to have a low quality instrument to learn on than no instrument. Unfortunately all I can see is this thing turning a budding musician off of playing an instrument. Great Review.
All kidding aside it might be salvageable if you want to take the trouble to sand down the valve stems a bit, polish them and work on those holes in the stems. Not that you should have to, but it might solve most of the problem
Love the closing, playing the crap cornet. Hilarious...it's like the "without autotune" videos. I play guitar and keyboards but I wanted to pick up a horn, trumpet or cornet and try to play one. Your vid helps to recognize what the really cheap ones are and how they perform. I see a lot of used (mostly student) horns, but I don't want to spend a lot as an adult beginner. Any recommendations?
This is the perfect horn to use when people ask you to play at their wedding for free.
YES
Laughed out loud.
Yes
When your friend comes over to your house and you need to practice a duet, it’s like the second player controler
no, you should use the tenor sousaphone
That carnival of Venice was a solid 10/10 flawless! What a great even, open sound that is produced by such a beautiful, well manufactured cornet!
Jake Statre-Farm I agree it's worth buying it
I love sarcasm 😁
Indeed! He should have made a comparision between the schagerl "Raven" and this 57 Dollar Instrument.
It would have been a head-to-head race.
Cornet? What cornet? This is a great, all round pocket trumpet! 🤣
Jake
*Jake*
A kazoo has a clearer tone than that cornet
Carlos Diaz XD
*kazoo kid starts playing in the background*
A little harsh on the Kazoo community don't you think?
Quality so good you can SMELL it.
The entertainment value of Carnival of Venice at the end was worth the return shipping, too.
Definitely
Yeah that tone was beautiful it was powerful resonant while the high notes where clear colorful full of life while the low notes were deep warm and strong it was truly a once in a lifetime performance
Also, I've never seen Trent laugh before. A rare sighting.
I used to think that a good player can make even a bad horn sound good. Trent is a great player, and … well, I stand corrected in this case.
a good player can make a "beginner" instrument sound good
Almost died from Carnival of Venice at the end. This is my favorite version now.
10/10 great sound.
The sound is so clear and groundbreaking that the emotion that could be used to play with it is overwhelming. It really touches my soul through the screen. Uh huh
Bruh are you on lsd
Lol
His expression when he looked at the first valve at 4:02 lol
6:28
The 40$ trumpet looks like a Bach Stradivarius now....
probably plays about as good as one compared to this. Did you see that big booger of brown gunk in the 2nd valve?
Yeah but seriously the 40$ trumpet it sooooooo much better than this
My plastic one sounds better 💀
This instrument is totally dumpster-ready.
Don't throw it away - make it into a lamp.
snoproblem 😂
Let me guess: Made in China
Like me
I like the joke but I agree with Stephen

Ethan Perez *cornet* performance
Yes, sorry and thank you for correcting me.
LOL! Sarcasm.
It's not even a B-flat instrument. It's pitched in B natural.
Levi Hardy Maybe B quartertone flat? Hahahahaha
According to my korg tuner it is b 20 cents sharp lol
That was the first thing I noticed too. The second he started playing I thought to myself, “THAT’S A C# NOT A C, WHAT’S GOING ON HERE??”
Sounds like a wasp stuck in a jam jar!
I like how you included carnival of Venice at the end to demonstrated its smooth and precise valve movement
Re: The valve marked "34"... Similar to what every drummer expects upon hearing "you can use our house kit, just bring a pair of sticks"
Trent, you're a brave man!
"Oooh!"
-Trent Hamilton, 2018
That was the saddest “in the mood” ever.
still sounds by better than my concert band brass section
That's pretty much the same thing I said.
as a cornet player I was legit gagging, not only is this "instrument" really bad, it is the worst and most disgusting cornet I've have ever seen.
I got a new title for the video "the worlds cheapest piece of scrap metal
MrTDS nah scrap metal is typically at least useful from an industrial standpoint. Whatever it's made of is probably not worthy for a landfill
I hope that is not really the case, you can get alot better instrument for only slightly more
@Justin Y. I honestly don't know what's wrong with you. Has a trumpet player my heart got hurt
The solos at the end had me in tears. Absolutely hilarious.

Trent Hamilton whenever you play something on one of the cheap instruments you should compare it to a better/more expensive one + 2nd person to comment on this video
It's a questionable bugle in Bb, and maybe a few other semi-acceptable keys.

He played In the Mood by Glenn Miller (barely recognisable).
I broke up when he tried to play it. It was hilarious but better then I could ever play it.
They weren't totally wrong with the fun, but serious instrument... I mean, it's not serious, but it's certainly fun, I laughed my brains out 🤣🤣🤣
9:20 I'm literally dying of laughter. I expected your nice outro, but I got this!! I'm not even joking, I'm laughing so hard that I'm crying!!
still funny a year later
mi stomach aches
I Think I damaged myself laughing at the exiting performance 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is by far Trent’s most serious, free flowing, gig ready review🙂
I had to go and get the mop and pail after listening to 9:09 onward...
I've been brought to tears with how beautiful it sounds
This is why I pretty much always buy used. I’ve been a woodwind player for a long time, and recently wanted to try getting into brass. Bought a used getzen tone balanced super deluxe cornet online. It’s great, I have absolutely zero complaints. 70 years old and just over 100USD shipped to my door
Certainly your funniest video ever! Great job Trent!
Chneeseum at it's best. Was that the Carnival of Taipei?
Can you make more 3d printed mouthpieces
That's one quality duck call you bought there Trent.
I have never heard a C Cornet. And the first one hear is... that...
It isn’t a C cornet, it’s in Bb, or is supposed to be. I didn’t have any of the tuning slides out when playing.
Luggage Stomvi makes a C Cornet
Trent Hamilton sounds like it’s A
@@Joseph-bb8dl I think if it was A flat cornet, it'd sound better.
actually it's in B

Lead is probably even softer than *gold.*
Monel is nickel and copper used for corrosion resistance
Sometimes I wonder why you do this to yourself, but I definitely appreciate being along for the ride
2:50 Trent’s laugh reminds me of my mom for some reason…
Lol 2:04. I love your. Videos. Trent. And. That. Carnival of Venice. 👌
Professor Snape I love that part too! I think Trent has definitely gotten better when it comes to RUclips, unlike most RUclipsrs
Soci ety Yea he is really good
I know everyone is probably talking about the horn but CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW COOL THAT KNIFE LOOKED?
All of a sudden the Carnival of Venice sounds like a Funeral...
The sound brings the term 'strangling a cat' to mind...
Spray paint it a colour and use it in a piece of art Like the blue French horn on how I met you mother
Lmao
I'm in stitches. I needed this laugh. lol This thing isn't worthy for department stores. "Totally gig ready." 😂 It's like a 14 year old wrote the description. Like the shipping, the smell is free.
gotta love that carnival of Venice and in the mood.
That is the deepest, most in tune horn I have ever heard.
LOL!!! Hearing that thing was one of the funnier things I've heard in a while.
I'm not a band player of these instruments but have potential to learn them as an adult. I do however work with wood, if you bought a round wood pole it would saved you sanding. I just discovered this channel and I really like it!
When you played "In the Mood" you scared the hell out of me since I've been singing that song all morning and it's been weeks since I heard it for the last time 😅
makes a nice lamp.
Too expensive for a lamp. I bought a Chinese clarinet for 6 bucks for that. Perfect!
I recently bought a used euphonium from someone who included a screen shot of the item on amazon. When I checked it out, one of the comments mentioned a strong, nasty smell, especially the case. Ouch! Trent, my sides are aching after hearing you play Carnival of Venice at the end. I'm speechless. I am without speech.
*hears harmonic series* well, it kay be fun, but its definitely not a serious
Sounds good to me... love your videos, funny stuff.... makes me smile...
Well, the valves may not be well-cut or line up with the pipes, but they sure are circles!
Thanks for keeping us cautious when shopping online :)
In case you all are wondering in the sped up part of the video he first says, “I will now open this.” And the second time he says, “I am being very careful and (something) as to not scratch the instrument at all.”
Now I understand why Indian Marching Bands sounds so darn bad. lol.
It was so funny when you read the claims then played In the Mood. Great channel too.
waddyer talkin about it - its gig ready if you are going to haunt a house or provide sonic pest control. :P I suppose you could use it to clear the room as well.

I recall that my cornet stank too. I flushed it with water once in a while but it still stank. Maybe should have used liquid soap. If you don't brush your teeth before playing, the food particles go into the cornet along with the usual saliva.
Never play in the mood ever again
This thing is probably worth more in scrap metal.
Can you do a review on that gas mask please
Respirator. Not even sure if it's good for asbestos (actually *not* toxic just very small & sharp, so it'll slice up your DNA, and if the cells are living, will cause cancer). And asbestos isn't *_nearly_* as small as *gas* molecules.

Its only when u played that thing the fun started 😂 🙈
Are you sure the valves are in the right holes?
well obviously not he had valve 34 in place of 1...
If they weren’t in the right slots then no air would come through at all, the manufacturer probably miscalculated where the holes should be
@TheBlack Panther not true. My trumpet came with the first and third valves swapped and it sounded exactly like this at firsr.
@@drakegaming2819 I intentionally did that and the air was blocked....
LAMP TIME.
This is the first cheap instrument that I have seen that I would steer people away no matter what. Sometimes it is better to have a low quality instrument to learn on than no instrument. Unfortunately all I can see is this thing turning a budding musician off of playing an instrument. Great Review.
You will have to purchase some clover compound to lap in the valve..
Trent you should totally record your outro with that trumpet and use that from now on 😂
I think this cornet was made from a very cheap Chineseium alloy that many of your instruments seem to be made from
For $200.00, I'll take that horn off of your hands (if you pay me two hundred, that is.)
Trent, when you lap in the valves. put them from the bottom of the valve casing.
That mouthpiece is a piece of art , I’d try my best to use it whenever I could lol
It's an awesome channel mate - good style, and good content! LIKE!
Bruh when he played in the mood😂
Did you try changing the reed?
Hi Trent...So what IS an acceptable inexpensive Coronet? I see a lot of them on Ebay buuuut...wonder if you have any experience with them??
All kidding aside it might be salvageable if you want to take the trouble to sand down the valve stems a bit, polish them and work on those holes in the stems. Not that you should have to, but it might solve most of the problem
Lol those tuning slides are great
the fact you’re wearing a mask in the thumbnail 😂 what an insane prediction
Ah! So that's what the trumpeter in the Guckenheimer Sauerkraut Band used!
