I was moved by the kind hospitality of the sushi place. It proves that even if there is a language barrier, communication is possible if you are considerate.
You guys deserved a Hotel Archives after that trail!! Bit of a bummer poor Bryan missed out ☹️ I’m sure he’s watched this enviously. I seriously don’t know how you guys have under a million subscribers. Funny, informative, and fun! Thanks for sharing your travels with us!
I've seen a few Takayama, Shirakawa-go videos in the past month but yours is the best and I'm not surprised! The cinematography, the script, the activities and everything you showed us, 10/10.
This is arguably my favourite episode you’ve done. I’m super excited for the next road trip that’s coming soon! I love when you hike, camp and what not but there’s something so cozy about this that I just can’t explain.
Hi Guys, American checking in. I LOVED this video. I’m a 66 yo female, 2nd generation Scott and German living in a small hamlet in western Washington. I may never get to Japan but I hope I’m wrong. If I’m right, this was a truly exceptional visual experience trip through Japan. Please keep up the good work as I imagine there are many of us out here who so enjoy your trips. 😊
Guys, I've had the absolute pleasure of watching your videos since the very first one. They just keep getting better and better. Keep it up I really enjoy them!!!
Japan, that fascinating Far Eastern country, is a place where opposites coexist: the future and the past, technology and nature, pop culture and ancient traditions. From the northernmost tip to the southernmost point, every prefecture offers must-visit spots, hot springs, and delicious, unique cuisine. No matter how remote the location, it’s always clean and safe. And of course, there’s a deep sense of respect and honesty. It’s a country worth exploring slowly, over a lifetime.
Laughed really hard at the part where you both thought you were on the wrong train. I've had experiences just like that while traveling and the instant relief when you realize you're actually okay, so perfect. Great video!
Thank you for the AMAZING scenery and culture and food/markets. I will most likely never get to go to Asia so am so grateful to be able to explore it with you. Thank you!!!
Man, I can’t believe I stumbled upon you guys today. What a treat, and an awesome way to sink into an afternoon. You guys are my ideal travel buddies. A perfect combination of down-for-whatever and curated off-the-beaten-path traveling. Wishing you all well and safe travels!
I suddenly find myself wishing for just a video of the uncut view out the window of a train going through Japan. I bet you could make a whole series from just that simple concept in every country and do pretty well with it.
Not 100% the same but you might like the RUclips channel Rambalac. He lives in Japan and uploads no commentary videos of his walks through cities and towns. Good stuff!
This was the best video. 💙 It was so great seeing you guys relaxing and exploring “wandering” in different towns and cities. Felt bad that Brian missed it. But That walk to the huge desert beach at night was INSANE!! Very Spooky! Thanks for sharing your trip!!
I started hiking and camping this year, and then I found Adventure Archives, which is an absolute gem with the amazing videos you guys produce. I often find myself sitting there for hours watching your videos like I'm watching movies, especially when I don't have any hikes planned. Just want to say that I really enjoy AA content, and I can't wait for more adventures/videos to come!
Sugidama 杉玉 actually represents a sake brewery. Since it was all dried out it showed that they currently were not brewing sake. Sake was traditionally brewed during the colder months.
That was a fun trip! A more relaxed adventure after the Kumano Kodo. It was unfortunate that Bryan couldn't be part of the final trip. Nice touch with the apologies to him in the credits 😂 Andrew Lin he's cool...ish 😎🍦 Shoutout Vancouver!🙌 Also @DanVolkens cameo! 👊 🥋 Arigato guys! 👍
I love travelling by train through countries! This is lovely and such a great idea for a trip through Japan! 🤩 I can also highly recommend doing the same sometime through Norway, we also have very rough but gorgeous countryside for hiking (many many trails and mountains to climb 😝) and you also get spectacular views from the comfort of a train when crossing the country ☺️ (no onsen but we do have sauna! 😝) I love seeing these historic villages and the food and onsen looks soooo luxurious! ❤️
People don't like the word "gourmet" anymore do they? Something better than "foodie" needs to be found though. Most people like the experience of good food though.
man i miss japan so damn much! It spoiled me! I long to go back soon. Greatest country on earth nothing even comes close! (aside from USA obviously) can't say I care how people think/say when they read this. Oh well.
HI DAN 👋 YOU CAN TELL HOW MUCH LOVE & CARE YOU'RE PUTTING INTO THE CABIN ❤ MAKING SURE EACH LOG / PIECE IS FITTING INTO ITS PLACE AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE. I'M GLAD THERE'S HELP FOR YOU OFF & ON SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY , SLOW DOWN TO MUCH , MAYBE, GIVES YOU A LITTLE BREATHER WHICH MIGHT BE GOOD FOR YOU. LOOKS LIKE YOU'VE GOTTEN THE HANG OF THIS .HOPEFULLY EVERYONE IS DOING WELL . BE SAFE ☺️ 🙏HAVE FUN ☺️ 🙏 ENJOYED ☺️ 🙏GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES ☺️ 🙏THANK YOU ☺️ 🙏BOY THAT RAIN SEEMED TO COME OUT OF NO WHERE ☺️ 🙏
Oh man now THIS is what I want to see -- the in-depth exploration of Japan, not just the mountains! No offense but I ain't a fan of hiking; I started following Robby's Japan videos during the Covid travel-ban years. You guys' Japan videos are the best out there! Can't get enough!
Wow, looking forward to watching this later. Your Kumano Kodo videos were our template for our own Kumano Kodo trip which we completed a month ago. We even stayed at the same places, thanks to your recommendation. Unfortunately made the fatal mistake of not renting a car for hiking in Takayama
The stick and ball game you guys played at Hida No Sato is called Kendama. It has a niche following, but there are very skilled players out there who participate in worldwide competitions and create edits (much like skate videos). The spinning trick Robby did was actually very clever for beginners to the game. Cool to see something that was apart of my childhood pop up in this AA episode
I think a lot of us have a mistaken vision of what Japan looks like. Because we see Tokyo predominantly, we have no concept of how rural parts of Japan looks. In England, new thatch roofs can last anywhere from 25 - 40 or more years. I assume it's similar in Japan. Hot water and cool air? This is why so many ski resorts have hot tubs on the condo balconies. Sit in the hot water while it snows. It's a religious experience.
There's a really beautiful outdoor onsen in the Saikonawara Park in Kusatsu Onsen! I had the privilege of being there earlier this year and it involved a slightly sketchy icy hike through the park but, you get to enjoy the hot onsen under the stars and amongst the snow , trees, and mountains. Just gorgeous.
We actually had looked that up! I can't remember why we didn't end up going, I think it was just a lack of time to get there, but it looked amazing. Next time!
So beautiful there man oh man ❤❤❤❤ sorry Brian had to leave we missed you at the end of the. Thanks again for your videos truly amazingly beautiful ❤❤❤
My Dream is to some day live in Japan So watching all of your guys adventures travel through the country only solidified that haha and I really enjoyed watching you all explore Japanese, one day hopefully I can visit some of the places you guys found ☺️💗
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening. Can you give a shout out to my wife, she was a huge fan of this channel and past away of brain cancer on 07-25-2024. Here name is Anna. Peace and love and stay blessed my brethren 🙏
Japanese has two words for apartments. apaato アパート and manshon マンション. Apaato is really basic accommodation common in bed towns of Tokyo. While manshon are more sound proof and use better materials. Most apartments you see on RUclips videos are manshon. It has only a vague connection to the English word mansion, which is a luxurious house.
Love Takayama! I thought the early closing of stores is due to the winter season when we went there. You should have eaten at the restaurant where you took a picture with the cow cutout hehe and also try hida beef sushi! Hida beef > kobe beef for me haha
I was moved by the kind hospitality of the sushi place. It proves that even if there is a language barrier, communication is possible if you are considerate.
My wife and i just returned from our first trip to Japan. It was beyond fantastic. ❤
The sushi restaurant segment was so heartwarming! What kind people!
I've seen a few Takayama, Shirakawa-go videos in the past month but yours is the best and I'm not surprised! The cinematography, the script, the activities and everything you showed us, 10/10.

Agreed! The roadtrip-style episodes are a lot of fun. Thanks for watching :)
Poor Brian :) he tough it out for the team only having to go home and skipped out the relaxing portion.

Guys, I've had the absolute pleasure of watching your videos since the very first one. They just keep getting better and better. Keep it up I really enjoy them!!!
"Apologies to: Bryan Lin" in the end credits is so apt haha.

Life’s been busy and I’ve only gotten the chance to watch your vids again. Didnt realize how much i missed you guys. Amazing content as always. 🙂
Laughed really hard at the part where you both thought you were on the wrong train. I've had experiences just like that while traveling and the instant relief when you realize you're actually okay, so perfect. Great video!
Haha, it was so strange that we both thought the same thing. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for the AMAZING scenery and culture and food/markets. I will most likely never get to go to Asia so am so grateful to be able to explore it with you. Thank you!!!

Such a great episode. Thanks! That sushi restaurant looked so good!
Thank you!
Hotel Archives was long overdue 😂
This was the best video. 💙 It was so great seeing you guys relaxing and exploring “wandering” in different towns and cities. Felt bad that Brian missed it. But That walk to the huge desert beach at night was INSANE!! Very Spooky! Thanks for sharing your trip!!

The sushi restaurant is Okina Sushi (翁寿司) in Kanazawa, for anyone interested.

I'll be watching again. I've been to Japan and I alway think Japan majical. Thank you.
Sugidama 杉玉 actually represents a sake brewery. Since it was all dried out it showed that they currently were not brewing sake. Sake was traditionally brewed during the colder months.
One of my most favorite episode to date thank you. Big love from Japan 💖
Y’all are awesome. Every adventure is very enjoyable and I just want more and more.
Fascinating sights, matching music, food, good feelings, belly-laughs - your newest video has it all. More than “coolish”. Thanks!
Absolutely fantastic video. Thank you!
What’s NOT to like about these guys! Great trip! Thank you 😊
I loved the walking around the towns after dark. The sushi restaurant was awesome too!
The best Archives episode

The slow motion rainfall under the lantern.....❤
Been needing more hotel archives in my life. 😂
I love your videos. I always think of how wonderful it would be if I could travel to those beautiful spots with you. Thank you for sharing.
wonderful, love your roadtrip-style episodes
Thomas your more than just coolish and I didn´t even knew you got a dog :D All of you are amazing and it is always a pleasure to watch your videos.
As I’m watching this I realize you guys are just as much foodies as hikers… 🥰
People don't like the word "gourmet" anymore do they? Something better than "foodie" needs to be found though. Most people like the experience of good food though.
It's even better than the actual trail video :)
you all are missing out, if you're not hitting northern Japan near Aomori. the place is just amazing.
That looks like an awesome trip! I can’t wait for the next one, excellent work guys 👍
man i miss japan so damn much! It spoiled me! I long to go back soon. Greatest country on earth nothing even comes close! (aside from USA obviously) can't say I care how people think/say when they read this. Oh well.

Ah yes I was waiting for this video! This is definitely fueling my desire to visit Japan next year. 😅
Thanks for the trip guys! Nicely done!
Your Japan trips are so fun to watch!
20:36 these shots are mind blowing
I fell in love with Amazake when I was in Kamakura in the fall. Soooooo good.
8:14 those are celosia! Also known as "cockscomb" since they look similar to the red part of a roosters head called a "comb"
20:47 But Thomas, was it a "complete" double rainbow? Would you even perhaps describe it as being "all the way across the sky"?
Wow, looking forward to watching this later. Your Kumano Kodo videos were our template for our own Kumano Kodo trip which we completed a month ago. We even stayed at the same places, thanks to your recommendation. Unfortunately made the fatal mistake of not renting a car for hiking in Takayama
Beertastic, great episode., The Boys always make food look and taste so good, I’m hungry

I never thought Thomas could be that hilarious @1:32:12 😂😂😅

Great trip! It’s unfortunate Bryan couldn’t enjoy this one, he certainly earned it 👍
very, very impressive! I couldn't get over how clean everything was. No trash on the streets or on the sides of the roads. Is that a fair assumption?
I prefer your hikes but I have to say I love your eatings.
There's a really beautiful outdoor onsen in the Saikonawara Park in Kusatsu Onsen! Such a treat to get the train ride too!
We love Takayama!
this is such a nice video, would love more of this in addition to the hiking videos!
Thanks so much! We're hoping to do some more videos like this as well :)
For those wondering, that ¥3000 price for the private onsen is $18.94 US, $27.32 Canadian, $30.60 Australian, €18.42, and £15.43
Such great watch.Have a wonderful day ❤❤❤
Thank you!

Can Darrell plan my next road trip? 🤣 Looks like you guys had a blast!! 💞
Loved this episode. When y’all said the drink tasted like cheap gum I thought about Double Bubble not Hubba Bubba. It’s not lacking sugar definitely.
That metal gear solid skit at the end was absolutely legendary!
thanks guys
