Cormac is a queer, trans, non-binary youth minister who works at an Anglican church in Toronto.
Cormac is creating a new narrative for queer people by setting an example of how religious organizations can reduce the trauma that young people experience when they come out to their communities.
Cormac shares their story of growing up in evangelical Christianity, where happy memories are quashed by the reality that Cormac was not welcome in the community when they expressed their queerness. After being forced to resign by a Christian organization when they came out, Cormac abandoned their faith.
After leaving religion, Cormac found love, which gave them an opportunity to step into their queer identity - and a lifelong partnership.
Many years later, Cormac saw a job posting for a youth minister focused on LGBTQ communities. Applying for a position with an Anglican church was a huge leap of faith. Cormac thought it was possible that they were setting themself up for a repeat of the trauma, homophobia and rejection they’d experienced in the past. But, intrigued by the idea of returning to the church in a way that accepted their queerness, Cormac applied and was offered the job.
Now an openly trans youth minister, Cormac is turning a church space into a LGBTQ2-supporting space, a wholly original and inclusive community for teens, especially queer-identifying teens.
We see vibrant youth drop-ins with dozens of teens enjoying themselves. We hear from atheist and queer-identifying young people who’ve found a home in what Cormac has created. We see Cormac’s impact on young people.
Cormac is creating a space that exists as a contrast to the community they grew up in.
Over the course of this documentary, we see the impact that a positive queer role model can have on youth and the strength of character it takes to create a safe space within a place that felt so hostile in the past.

I had the honour of crossing paths with Cormac for a few weeks last year, and even though I knew none of what this documentary shares, I could tell that they had a wonderful light inside of them. As someone who experiences SSA, I tried and tried and tried for 25 years to buy into this.
Cormac is AMAZING!! I am a heterosexual married mom to 2 boys that know they are loved no matter who they love or how they want to identify and we hope that they will share those feelings with everyone their lives touched . My grandfather fought in WW2 and he always said : you just grow up and love everyone for who they are ...we are all human beings no matter belief, colour, lifestyle , looks we are humans and need to support and love each other. Otherwise WW2 will happen again. .....this was an amazing doc and my husband and I are going to watch the entire series with our boys ...thank you
As Christians, we are called to love all people, and I do. I treat everyone with love and kindness, no matter their gender, and sexuality. I love them, and God loves them. But I don't understand how you can call yourself Christian if you don't follow God's teaching. The Bible specifically states that marriage was meant to be between a man and a woman, and anything outside of that is a sin. If these people read the Bible, they should know that it's a sin. Either they don't read the Bible, or just choose to ignore it. Either way, you aren't really a Christian if you don't read the Bible, or pick and choose what values you want to live by. It's all or nothing. You can say you're a Christian, but you're not. I believe you can still love God and believe in him, but you don't fully trust in him if you ignore his teachings. He's not really a part of your life. But don't get me wrong, God still loves them. He still cherishes each of them, and will always love them. But they aren't showing him love in return, they are dismissing his teachings and ignoring them. As Christians, we are called to love everyone. And so I do. The sad thing is, is that some people call themselves Christian, but they hate on LGBTQ people. They aren't Christians either, if they continue to do it on purpose. Even though we may not agree with the LGBTQ views, we still are called to love them. They are still God's children, as we are. Most Christians now are judged based on the actions of those homophobic "Christians", even though we are different than them. I feel really bad for people who have come across those people, that's not what a Christian is supposed to do. That's not what Christanity is. They should be welcome in Church, just like everyone else. We are all sinners. Who are we to judge them, when we sin as well? We should love them, just as we love everyone else. They should be welcome in Church, of all places. Of all people, Christians should be the ones who show love to LGBTQ people. Just because we disagree on views doesn't mean we have to show hate. It's not our job to try to convert them by waving a bible into their face. We can't change people. We can only show them love, and hope they come to Christ one day.

This seems like an awesome space for LGBT community. A unity and loving place BUT
I didn't hear anything about scripture. Noone was talking about Jesus or principles and promises of God. From watching this documentary film it seems to be lacking the Christian aspect. I feel it is an awesome place where great things happen. So please don't take this as ridicule. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed the video.
I think it is intentionally so. For people to join the church you need to DEMONSTRATE the principles of the bible by opening your doors to everyone just because they're human and you love them and for no reason and with no aim, not to force them to convert or to listen to scripture. It's important to show just what I would say is human charity (charity you can have in you regardless of your faith) and the church should be the leader on that, charity without an aim. If you say Jesus can save anyone and Jesus loves everyone and that's what we beleive in the church then you need to demonstrate it by being welcoming. I'm sure that there is also more focused DISCUSSION on scripture and specifically scripture and sexuality but the first port of call should be this is what it feels like and is to emulate the principles we talk about. I returned to the Church because I was shown a tremendous level of community, welcomingness and care by people who were in the Church. Not once did the take out scripture. But I can read it through how they are to me. Yes I know it intellectually, but experience creates embodiment and lifelong, true understanding.

Interesting that in her testimony, she mentions that she was drawn to the experience of church and not the person of Jesus, which is the case with many in the church.
They love the social experience of church, and the idea of belonging to something bigger than themselves, but don't actually understand what it means to be born again.
Another problem is that, these churches think they are doing these people a favor when they don't preach on the sin of homosexuality. Had she heard sermons preaching about that, I'm sure she would not have made that decision to pursue church.
Instead, seems like the main topic was teen sex.
But it's obvious that she never loved Jesus.

The Bible doesn't mention anything about a "personal relationship", but this is what it does say...
