I loved twine for the ability to fight bots. I put more time into that than beating the missions. Another solo playground of carnage. Same for perfect dark & Conker & turoc rage wars. I was really wowed by the feeling of speed that pod racer provided. Hot Wheels turbo raceing was equally dizzying. I never saw a toy story 2. I'd like to get that one off eBay some time. I played the absolute crap out of A Bug's Life on PC back in the day. It was one of my favorite games, mostly because I had no idea what was happening anyways so I would just get lost and explore each level for an hour until I did what I was supposed to. One of the earliest instances I can remember of myself getting lost in a game world.

TWINE not invoking much nostalgia is because it doesn't deserve it. Goldeneye isn't just remembered fondly because it is the OG. Perfect Dark came after Goldeneye and it still gets some love. Why? Like Goldeneye, it's actually good.

The Top 3 from the video
    1) - Goldeneye. If you've never played this before then just buy it. If you own an N64 and do not own this game then please see a doctor. The film is also worth watching.
    2) - SW Ep 1 Racer - Looks a little dated now but still plays great and very fast even by todays standards. Best part of the film in my opinion, but I cannot recommend the film, sadly.
    3) A tie. TWINE and SW Ep 1 Battle for Naboo. Both games are good. I think both are also now hard to find especially Naboo. Out of the films I'd say that the Bond film is worth watching.

TWINE while not as good as Goldeneye is still amazing in it's own way. The amount of voice clips is wonderful and the level design is realistically amazing! At times it looks like a PS2 game.

I have easily put 300+ hours into Star Wars pod racer on my Nintendo switch. It’s fun, it’s fast, it’s addictive. I don’t think I’ve ever played a racing game that feels so fast before, it feels as natural as breathing but a difficulty curve that makes sure you’re never really bored. I just keep restarting and re doing the tournament mode with different racers with different winning amounts and different amounts of money spent on my racer to make the different playthroughs have different difficulties

I absolutely love my N64 (tied first as my favorite console of all time), but you see... even though I say that, there're cases where you think twice about its 64 bit performance. PS1 was a real cheater of a console (if yoy want I'll explain that), but nevertheless it ran games with higher framerate, higher res textures and sometimes even more polygons per second, and was 32 bit. For quite some time I thought that was quite insteresting... the fact is, when you see games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, both Zeldas, Conker's, TWINE and many more, those absolutely yell 64 bit.
Any of those absolutely obliterates the PS1, to a point it leaves zero doubt which console was more capable. If the entire library of N64 games isn't up to the same level, it says more about the developers than the hardware's capabilities. I mean, Goldeneye looks GORGEOUS even in 2019. That's quite a feat running on a 1996 hardware. The N64 was immensely powerful when properly programmed for.

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  5 лет назад

Now if only the console wasn’t so hard to make games for we might get some new games on it

    •  5 лет назад

@@n64glennplant Glenn, love your channel, LOVE it!! Here's a topic suggestion for a future video: why can't developers keep producing games for old hardware? Here's why it should be a good idea: hardware is old, games for it are simple, definitely simpler than current gen games, so if a developer assembles a team of 20 people they can definitely produce AAA games. If I recall, Perfect Dark was made with a 20 people team. 20 people paycheck shouldn't worry a Rockstar, for example.
And by this point, it's quite obvious there's a clear market for it. Retro Gaming has never been so popular and so lucrative like it is now. People are buying N64, Saturn, 3do (to name a few) left and right.
I believe new N64 games should be easier (and cheaper) than ever to produce (memory is cheap, production costs are low, small teams, etc) and there's a clearly defined market that would buy every single new title produced.
What are your thoughts on this subject?
Once again, love your channel !!!! Keep up the amazing work!

A Bug's Life was my 2nd ever N64 game after Ocarina of Time....quite the steep drop in quality haha. I remember having fun messing around with it, I would just run around the levels and not take things too seriously whereas Zelda was the game I actually invested time and TRIED to make progress in.
I never actually beat A Bug's Life back in the day either, I remember the slippery controls frustrating me to the point of just not playing it anymore. Only managed to beat it recently! Overall: Meh.
Best N64 movie games were TWINE, Podracer and Toy Story 2 easily! Toy Story 2 I especially loved when I was younger and played BEFORE Banjo Kazooie...so the size of the levels wowed me.

I think the shooting in The World Is Not Enough is absolutely horrendous; the guns don’t feel meaty, the sound effects make them sound like a potato gun, and the animations of the bad guys when shot is just awful. Goldeneye 007 is superior to TWINE in every conceivable way.
    Great video nonetheless! 👍🏻

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official game of the Movie, is a great video game adaptation.

As much I love Goldeneye I find it almost unplayable when going back to it in 2019 mostly due to the controls and being so used to playing FPS's with 2 sticks. I just can't get accustomed to it. It wrecks my head just trying to get through a level. Of course there's always the duel-wielding mode where you use 2 pads but that's not ideal. I wish more N64 FPS's had fully customizable controls like Quake 1 & 2 do. You can play those titles with modern(ish) controls and they play great as a result.

Just wondering, have you spent much time grappling with control scheme 1.2 (Solitaire)? It basically acts like a left-handed dual-stick setup: Aim with left stick, walk with C buttons, shoot with Z trigger, scope with R button. Oh, and inverted aim may actually be worth trying, as crazy as it sounds!
Personally, I can switch between that and a typical dual-stick game (e.g., Halo) easily, and both feel natural and easy to aim with... but your mileage may vary.

I'm liking this collections series. M.I is one my fondest memories, remember waiting outside blockbuster during their shipment and renting it right when they opened. Something about it is so unique, I think due to goldeneye being the gold standard to shoot for. I remember seeing the ads at toys r us before release and thinking the game was just gonna be insane. Too bad scientologist Tom Cruz said his face cant be in a violent video game since xenu will label him a intergaltic terrorist and will totally wack up your thetan levels.

Third place goes to Golden Eye, Never got the chance to play with someone else and my sisters weren't to interested.

Toystory 2 was ok and fun, it belonged to one of my sisters; I ended up selling it to buy another game.

I'm just thoroughly enamored by TWINE's engine. You can tell how smartly it's utilizing the hardware, those shadows, the textures, AI, animations, and it's all used to push along a rock n' roll roller coaster of a experience. A bit tough with al those buttons, but wow!

4:00 Isn't the Dreamcast version of Toy Story 2 full of graphical bugs? No, seriously, this is not a rhetorical question. Is it or is it not?
EDIT: While the Dreamcast version of Star Wars Episode I: Racer has better framerate, added lighting effects, more music and cutscenes, all of that comes with the cost of screen loading and the lack of the 2 hidden characters of the N64 version, so I'm a little divided between these 2 versions.
On a personal note, I enjoyed Rogue Squadron on the N64 but I think I enjoyed Battle for Naboo even more due to the 2 space levels. I'm a sucker for astrophysics and space exploration.

TWINE was great when it focused on the shooting and stealth elements. The issue with TWINE is the design choices where if one hostage is hit by an enemy bullet or your bullet.....just one bullet. It's Mission Failure. It was a pain on 00 Agent difficulty. In GE hostages took several shots to die and you could let a few die before you fail. Not to mention the last level in TWINE was an awkward puzzle underwater. Have Bond in a massive shootout in the crashed sub with Renard and his goons instead. I get that EA wanted to nail that 100% Bond factor but undeniably Goldeneye holds the superior gaming design choices.
