It is ILLEGAL to Fish this Way

- Snagging is generally looked down upon in the fishing community, as it is associated with poaching and illegal fishing techniques. However, in the East Coast Striper Fishery, it is a common method to obtain bait, which in turn is used to catch larger game fish. I in no way support snagging game fish of any kind. We went out to snag Menhaden (aka Pogy or Bunker) and were able to figure out an inshore bite to make for a great morning of Striper Fishing.

I think it's stupid to think that fishing someway like snagging for bait gets people SO angry. Like how somepeople think fly fishing is the ONLY way to fish, like how bow hunters think bow hunting is real hunting. But whatever floats your boat or float tube I guess. I love your vids my guy! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Daniel!
I get what u mean man, as a fly fisherman I can proudly say I also fish bait though becuase there's no right way to catch fish, if it works it works
I make flies😀 Its fun. But I don't fly fish all the time.
Its because real countries have conservation practices and the usa simply does not
@@garfoonga1it did until a bunch of traitors had Kennedy killed off. Then everything started going to shit.
Thanks! Hey man you are my favorite fishing RUclipsr because you are a genuine nice man who loves to teach people,❤ keep doing what you do best!
Thanks for your kind words Owen!

Love the content mate, I’m from Australia and I love watching your vids to get a perspective of other countries. Keep up the great work❤
Tackle sir you have inspired me and every time I go fishing I think of your methods. Thanks for teaching some beginners some nice baits, rods and many more. Thanks 😊
Visit Fall River for chow mein. Stay in Fall River because your car was stolen.
Lol
Love the videos bro! Keep up the good work
Your my biggest inspiration man keep it up!! ❤
God damn man, I look away from the channel for a few months and you’re already almost at 500k!! 😭 I knew you were gonna blow up big but not this fast!
that transition from gopro to phone footage was clean
Fishing is fishing and they care about you snagging for a few fish but not nets that kill thousands of fish that people don’t even eat cuz it “tastes a little different”
Dont let hatters tell you what to do its fishing do whatever however you want
Never let let hatters tell you what to do. They’re mad.
What do hatters have to do with fishing?? I mean wearing a good fishing hat could like protect you from the rain and sun but it’s kinda irrelevant
You mean *Haters*
@@isickofitIndeed, never let some up-jumped milliner start pushing you around!
Hello I love watching your videos keep up the great work man 👍
Great Vid I can tell at the beginning!
DANG, Bro, You have to be like the king of or God of striper bass fishing! Do you do any other stuff besides? I've been a subscriber for a little More than 2 years, but I don't know if I ever really commented on anything or not before today. Appreciate what you do though! I still support the channel though I don't comment as much. God bless!
What power rod and length did you use for this
I personally have nothing against snagging bunker but snagging salmon even in Alaska is crazy. If the fish won’t eat a plug with meat on it or an intruder fly it’s getting ready to spawn and you probably don’t wanna eat that anyways.
Love the videos tight lines
They’re specifically fishing for spawning fish in Alaska they aren’t eating hence the snagging. People still catch fish and hunt game as a primary food source there so I can understand it, when 100,000 fish come up your stream it’s time to stock the freezer.
From my research, you can leave a hook in a fish's gullet. I think it was around 80% of the time they expel it on their own.
This looks so sick! I’d love to do it! I grew up fishing for striped bass on the west coast in California on the California Delta. Not sure that we had the same numbers of striped bass as you guys on the east coast.
Other good spots new York and new jersey, Rhode Island and new hampshire and Maine for stripers. Connecticut Rhode Island
Love your content! I know basically nothing about fishing. Why’d you guys let the first two fish go? Were they just not the type you were going for?
Shout out Fallriver That's where I'm from home to the chow mein sandwich. Crazy you stopped in my city
Im just not familiar with it but I don’t have anything against it tbh I wouldn’t do it prb tho because well it’s not really necessary because I don’t like to use live bait
I hate snagging. With a passion. It's not as easy as it looks, and it's destroyed rods of mine before when I was an idiot and ripped the huge treble out of the water near the boat after sunset not knowing how much line I still had out. It came back with a vengeance and hit the rod, cracking the blank. Luckily it was a junk rod and somehow didn't get me square in the face. I highly suggest using a heavier action junk rod if snagging. I've tried to cast net pogies, and it's damn difficult, but once you get it you can fill your well very quickly. But as stated they must be less than 2-5ft down. You can get heavy weighted cast nets so they sink faster and further, but they become much more difficult to throw as they get heavier. How netting is better than snagging bait I don't know, and you're putting a hook in that baitfish anyway at some point. I have snagged a striper once when snagging pogies. Luckily it was a glancing blow, I didn't remove the fish from the water when dehooking, and I let him go after some reviving as Cam does in the video. I felt horrible about it and I immediately stopped snagging. I only keep one striper a year, I care deeply about the fishery,. I've tried Sabikis but as stated pogies do not hit them as they're filter feeders. I've actually snagged them accidentally on Sabikis. I hate fishing with pogies and bait in general. I've done pretty well trolling various offerings around the school, even when not hitting topwater. The big stripers will often sit at the bottom of the pogey school, just off the bottom and probably not visible on your electronics as they're obscured by the carpet thick school of bait. Drop them a deep diving plug or jig at 20-30ft and profit. This is probably what's going on in this video. I fish the same exact area as these guys, though I can't say I've seen them out there before. Hope to meet them someday.
Love ur vids I saw ur ad with tuktec! Haha had to comment.
Thanks phoenix!
I wish we had that many stripers in socal
Might be a dumb question but how come you hold the fish in the water when you’re releasing it?
I’m pretty sure he’s moving the fish back and forth to get some water to flow past the gills to get it breathing again, like doing CPR. Was wondering same thing! God bless!
why do you old the fish by the tail while it is in the water?
What rods are those?
The best fishing RUclipsr! Love to see the long form content. Great video as always. Love seeing Squeaky!
There’s an actual“snagging season” for Paddlefish in North Dakota. Check it out!
Can you do a mystery tackle box video
Snagging bunker is very kosher but hearing them called pogy sends shivers down my spine.
Can someone tell me why I only catch striped bass when I find a blitz and literally that's it
Bass must love your waters!
Good video
I Live in utah and its only legal in bear lake and lake powell, there are gigantic carp at lake powell and nobody likes them since they stir up the lake bed, you might be able to catch them if they bite your lure but it is really rare, it did happen once to my brother from a 6 pound carp. if you go there you can hear them jump and see them swimming. i go on a 3 day fishing trip each year on my pontoon, i'm planning on buying some snagging hooks to catch some gigantic carp
Day like 469 I don’t know lost count…….. and Sure enough
Hello, I have no idea what’s going on may I post a comment about my opinions?
Always!
@@Tackle2thePeople Thanks…. Steak doesn’t go on pizza. That will be all.
Seems fun. Does anyone know if it’s legal in nc
I would love to see you do spearfishing.
Actually catching fish in Fall River? Crazy
The chow mein sandwich was crazier 😂
What is squid jigging but snagging?
Note:
American paddlefish (AKA:
Mississippi paddlefish, spoon-billed cat, or spoonbill)
are filter-feeders and will not take bait or lures. They must be caught by snagging.
Brand new. Just curious, anybody know why they didn’t keep any fish? Also why do they hold on to them so long when they release? Does that help them get reacclimatized to the water?
They didn't keep the fish because the didnt need the food or money, they hold onto the fish for a while to make sure they stay underwater and swim off
They don't really need it for food, they just do it for fun. They hold the fish in the water for so long so it can swim of without stress or exhaustion.
It rehabs the fish till it is ready to swim away again otherwise they may go belly up for a few minutes while stunned from their fight and likely get murdered by a bird or other predator in the meantime.
Fish need water running past their gills to breathe. They hold it and move it back and forth until the fish is moving again to make sure it recovers as quickly as possible.
Somehow I’ve had bunker try and eat my lure before, a couple times actually, I’ve probably landed 5 with the hook in its mouth
@@J.o.e_K nah definitely bunker, I wanna say I’m just snagging it in the mouth but one time I was fishing a 5” swim bait and a bunker swallowed it, maybe it was defending itself but idk

what happens if you accidentally snag a gamefish?
Then you must let it go.
What happens if one of the bigger fish dies outside of the water by flopping or something? Do you get to keep it or do you need to throw it out?
Standard practice in RI. Land and boat.
hi guys i need help fishing
im 13 years old y and tipsand i have never caught a fish before even tho going multiple times can someone tell me which lures to buy and some tips
Sorry, buddy. It’s a lot of trial and error as fish prefer different things for different areas. General tips I can give you is look for places fish might like to hang out-for river/lake fishing you want to hit overhangs, deeper pools where the water is quieter, places behind rocks, etc.
Another tip I can give you is enjoy the process of fishing. Being out on the water or near the lake is part of the experience just as much as hooking a photo-worthy fish is, so cherish it.
Cheers, buddy.
Just saw this appear 😂
What if your snagging and you catch a bigger fish what will happen
I just LOVEEEEE when people who think they known it all, know nothing but still try and instruct you, even if it is illegal to snag a fish the fuck do I care ? It’s caught ima reeling it in you act like me snagging one fish or him snagging 100 is gonna fuck something up, y’all grow up and enjoy the channel like your meant to, keep it up brother I’m loving the content ❤️❤️
nice
honestly... so long as it's legal for the species and area... go for it.
People need to learn that the fish die in the wild anyway, wtf is the problem with snagging
Im cool with snagging baitfish. But snagging gamefish is kinda messed up imo
@@Tackle2thePeople it is but my pb largemouth, channel cat and smalllie were all off of live (snagged) shiners so idk the problem
@@Tackle2thePeopleHey just curious, why do you think its ok for baitfish but not gamefish?
Why not turn the motor off and lift it up from the start?
It is just a easy way to get live bait looks fun to do that for live bait
People love to troll and not for fish!
where you from?
Please don’t snag the fish that are currently being eaten alive 😂

Aye I’m in ma this week can we fish?😂
Why do they only eat pogie

Snagging pogies is almost as much fun as striper fishing.

You do what you gotta do! If it's the only way to catch some live bait then that's how it is, y'know? :]

Who cares if your snagging bait fish? I don’t understand the big deal!
The fishing community isn’t what it used to be. It used to be manly men that cussed like sailors, catching, cleaning, and providing fish. Now it’s riddled with 3rd grade pansies talking shit about how snag fishing “hurts the wittle fishies in the tummy!” Like, wtf?
I run into folks here in Fla while surf fishing on occasion who complain about me torturing the fish or causing them pain. I mainly catch and release since I'm not wild about cleaning and cooking fish. I keep some sometimes. Rather than argue I tell them that pelicans swallow fish straight into gastric acid and osprey grab fish with their talons and usually peck their eyes out 1st while still quite alive ! I don't believe God, nature or some kind of grand design power designed anything to be tortured etc. They don't have a nervous system like ours period. There are some biologists (very few) who may try to debate that but even a plant shows a reaction when its harvested when attached to a machine that measures these kinds of things . So unless they're eating dirt they need to shut up ! lol Ps The dirt might have microbes !! Oh no !
