Soulive has never made any bones about what they do best; it’s right there in their name. Since forming in 1999, the trio of guitarist Eric Krasno, drummer Alan Evans and keyboardist Neal Evans has carried the torch for the soul-jazz organ trio-that venerable, funky institution pioneered by the likes of Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff and Groove Holmes in the late ’60s. Rest assured, when the Evans brothers first brought Kraz by their Woodstock studio, there was plenty of old vinyl spread out on the floor.

King Curtis is looking down and smiling at all his children RIP King your work goes on.
TRUTH!
I think King thinks that Trucks kid maybe pretty good one of these days!
I do believe, that day has come!! With all my heart I believe!!
This is absolute fire on so many levels - sax solo is bonkers soulful, vocals are 🤯! 🔥❤️👊🏽🙌🏽
When family comes together and just jams for the love of music❤🎵🎸🔥
That second guitar solo was STRAIGHT FIRE
Trucks is so effortless and sacred! Just love his playing!
love love love !!!!saw them when i was pregnant af and still danced my brains out 😆😆
thank you thank you i miss live music 😭
When a song or music is so original and good, many artists love to perform it and add their touches to it and you recognize it at the first several notes.
this is my absolute favorite version of this tune! Soulive is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands and Derek is absolute fire but how about Susan! how good does she look and sound! I had to do a double take because I was like who is that singer, she looks so young but her voice is unmistakable.
Great song to open a set with and give everyone a solo! This song makes the soul wanna fly!
This trucks intensity-buildup is so strong and amazing.
A magical performance right from the vocals to the instrumentals. The guitarist is so magnificent, same as the drumer to the man on the keys. The sax player even killed it. They didn't disappoint as the KingPins would kill the rendition of this song.
Wish King Curtis had been there to play with them
Wow - amazing song to begin with and Tedeschi-Trucks with Soulive - it really doesn’t get much better than this.
100% agree😮
Excellent.....simply excellent--everyone on stage is deep in the pocket on that one!
I GOT NO WORDS. SANG LADY, SANG! AND GITFIDDLE PLAYERS, PLAY ON.
GREAT BAND of musicians. WOW!
Erik Krasno is an unsung guitar hero. He can hold his own with the likes of Mr. Trucks himself.
My GOD.. THAT'S FANTASTIC..W.T.F.??HOW HAVE I MISSED THIS NUGGET!!!!!!!!!!!
Tight ass shit right there! At 5:12, love how the whole band brings it down. Tight!
This band is DOPE. I'm trying to see them live. As soon as the sound hits your ears, you say "Damn!". Can't get enough of them.
It doesnt get much better then this. Wish I was at this performance. Kraz & Trucks killin it🎸❤️
Everytime I listen to this, King is in heaven rubbing his arms and tapping his toe
Wow! Just wow.
That Derek trucks solo is so good that I played it on Saxophone. It is on my channel
I just can’t get enough of this
Derek Trucks was put on earth to do one thing play slide guitar.
Uncle Duane’s smilin down from Heaven.
Amen
Outstanding in every way. So soulful.
I have a copy of King Curtis' LP and these people do this music total justice with verve and soul.
I start to cry at 2:42.
Amazing drum beat
The Alan Evans shuffle is one of the heaviest soul moving grooves ever.
WOW! ........FANTASTIC!
Absolutely incredible
What a cool performance
Fantastic sound! Great musicians
Awesome
Love this so much!
Amazing!!!!
Awsome !!
Ahhhhh JOY!!!!
Wow, yes,yes ,yes u go girl,kinda soulful...
What a great band it reminds me of King Curtis
Just listened to the Duane version of this song dedicated to King Curtis, my favorite guitar playing ever. While not equivalent, nor was it meant to be, this is out of bounds!
Fantastic, super 💋
Fucking LOVE horns!!!!
GOOD GAAAAAAWD!!!!!!
Goot stuff!!
speechless but for saying speechless. damn.
What a lovely sound were is the band from
come the f*** on, dude!!!! how does something like this NOT make you move in-- scratch that-- STAND UP from your chair & open up your mind and begin to soar... always always a huge fan of ABB, TTB... but Derek is.. Derek is Derek.. anyone not feeling the spirits of Duane & Gregg AND King Curtis himself smiling there upon them-- you're just not looking.. let go, let THIS come in... you won't regret it.. this is bad to the bone, no doubt.. but I think I'm still a bit partial to DT's version from the guitar center blues contest.. THAT has got some serious emotion.. made this 42 yr old man shed a tear or two the first time I heard/watched it... heck, still does. I guess you either get 'it', or you don't.. I got it.. Had it for almost 30 yrs now.. Sh*t never gets old or played out. especially with this group of improv pro's.. love it, brother..
I sure do miss the ABB, even though I wasn't around for the original lineup, I was privileged enough to catch over 30 of their shows.. and the best incarnation of the original magic was most def Derek with Warren.. I was at that 1st "official" show without Dickey.. opening night of the Beacon run.. man, I want to say 2002... could be off a yr or two... but it was magic, from the get-go..
Derek n Susan
the soul just wants to take flight ...
Kraz!
Go Eric ; Susan, Derek
Everybody knows how great Trucks is, but damn if that first cat did not set a helluva nice vibe.
hnobody Eric Krasno
Eric Krasno....props!!!!!!
hnobody You couldnt have said it better. Derek was incredible but Eric dropped a real soulful set
Krasno is way better than Trucks.
@@spaceghost8995 you are kidding right. Lol
The keyboardist might the baddest kat on the stage. Bro is killing that bass line plus putting in the organ. Oh my goodness.
Neal Evans is on a whole other level!
@@siscoismyhomey Yea sir he is. Funny thing is I was looking for the bass guitarist as I attempt to play bass. I actually went another video to check out Soulive. Just to find Neal killing that bass on every cut. I love the energy He gives His music.
Susan and Derek Trucks is marriage made in heaven!
Norwell, misses you girl. ....
Who is the sax player?? That solo was phenomenal
What year ?
Anyone know what year this was recorded?
2009 I believe.
SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG GUL \o/
Love the voice of the vocalist on this. Who is she?
I am sorry, I have never heard of her.
Check out Tedeschi Trucks Band... It's the band for her and husband, Derek Trucks' (the guy playing slide in this video). They are amazing!
Thank you, I will. Cheers!
I like Susan, but shes not a soul singer. Somtimes leave the wife at home. Listen to soul serenade with Derek Trucks band. Then you know what i mean.....
@@perdalgaard850 Fuck off asshole. Susan was an accomplished artist before she even met Derek Trucks.
DMB made me aware .
Very hard to beat the Alan Evans shuffle
King curtis doit bien danser de la haut
Not even close to Derek playing at the Guitar Center's King of the Blues.
says who?
Where can I find that?
Search on youtube for ''Derek Trucks Performing "Soul Serenade" at Guitar Center's King of the Blues 2010''
Not even close to being an accurate comment
Didn’t know Kimock could play sax too
Dam shame what happened to King Curtis…. Such a fine fine respect paid by such fine fine musicians!!! So so delectable…..
Duane would be so proud!
Great playing, but it's amazing how many otherwise good sound engineers have absolutely no idea what an alto sax should really sound like !!
********
Local girl makes good selling candy bars
She sounds a lot like Aretha.
Ok, not sure which Aretha you been listening too....but its all good.
Dont blasfemy in here
NOT.
Jesus Christ!
3 people have no soul!
The count is now 8 people who have no soul and apparently no ears
Should have used a tenor sax instead. That sax sound had no richness or power to it .
