The first 2 year with Ryan Zoidis sax and Rashawn Ross trumpet(2003-2005) are my favorite soulive period with trio year(2000-2003) www.discogs.com/Soulive-Live-In-NYC-73004/release/7867090
I on a whim saw them 2 nights at a small venue in Santa Monica in 2001. Blown away and kept seeing them for 12+ years. But I was always chasing that 2001 experience

This version of "Evidence" is really good. But tbh, the album version with Krasno's solo is so fucking good. There's this one line he plays on the album version during his solo thats SO gold. got dayum
Watch the beginning of organ solo, say 15:45. He stops playing bass. Guitarist takes it over. Guy to the left has two bass strings on his guitar. Watch him just before 16:00. Now he's doing bass for the organ solo. It is very well done. Sounds great!
That fellow is named Charlie Hunter. He is known for playing that instrument and mostly plays both the lead line and bass lines together. He's got some amazing music out there.
This is either '99 or '00. Think its '99. These were the quintessential Soulive years. Doesn't get much better than this. Cant wait for Bowlive 5!!!!!!!!
My gawd soulive in their prime are out of this world, each and every time I hear it, it's like a slight sense of reincarnation and spiritual cleanse processes have been realized as a logical plan for inner peace
This is making me all nostalgic. I remember seeing these guys at the Stonechurch in Newmarket, NH back when they started. I had many an Irish car bomb with these three. Great players and even cooler gentlemen.
saw it a few times right when they were still at the height of their trio. i would stand right behind him at the stage. still blows my mind. he was one of a kind. a great scene.
it kills me every time that I can just about get the bass line, and he manages to do that and an amazing solo at the same time. Taken so many keys licks from him to add to my bass playing though
I'm guessing this is in 2001, judging from the setlist. 2002 at the latest. Couldn't find this exact concert on archive.org, but there are others. These guys were only a few years out of college, the band only formed in '99! It's a great recording, I wonder if a DVD or something is available
Ive Been A Soulive Fan since about 1998 And let Me just Their Compositions Are OVER THE Top..They can Do Anything..watch BROOKLYN BOWL 1 THRU 8..just saying..Thank You my Students
+Chris Dixon Its called 'Turn it Out', also the title track off their second album, which bangs. All of this, except for the cover 'Its Your Thing' appears to be from their first two albums. Good Shit!
I miss these shows. 2000-03 was the best. They played so many shows in NYC. The trio is still the best soulive experience IMO.
lokijam Agreed on the trio.

Had the pleasure once in N.Jersey, very close to home, in 2010. Serious Jam!!
I’m a bassist, but Neal opened my eyes to true groove. His notes are so full and the approach is something no bassist would take. Truly unique dude

How can the feet of an organ-player groove more than every bass-player I ever heard? Unbelievable.
It's his left hand, trust.
I see myself in the crowd at 2:30!! Great show.
I love these cats! my man is sick with the organ and playin the basslines at the same time as the riffs..damn! cant wait to catch these guys live..
My gawd soulive in their prime are out of this world, each and every time I hear it, it's like a slight sense of reincarnation and spiritual cleanse processes have been realized as a logical plan for inner peace
I saw these guys a bunch live at this time. Awesome energy. Used to sit behind Neal and watch him play all night.
This is making me all nostalgic. I remember seeing these guys at the Stonechurch in Newmarket, NH back when they started. I had many an Irish car bomb with these three. Great players and even cooler gentlemen.

Neil´s left hand: PRICELESS!!

saw it a few times right when they were still at the height of their trio. i would stand right behind him at the stage. still blows my mind. he was one of a kind. a great scene.

What Hammond version is Neil evans always playing? Is it always the B3? Is there something special with his one? It sounds so good always.
God damn, this jam! It rocks - yeah!
that first song is TOO SWEET!!! Penitentiary anyone?
it kills me every time that I can just about get the bass line, and he manages to do that and an amazing solo at the same time. Taken so many keys licks from him to add to my bass playing though

Oh, there's Bass.
Whos playing the bass here? Im confused.
Neil Evans on the organ/keys.
Like William said, the keyboard player is playing bass with his left hand and with foot pedals.
Charlie walks up.. "what key" hehehe
really cool stuff but so sad there is no bass player...
Actually there is one. One of the best: Neil Evans (with his feets). Unbelievable. And this comes from a professional Bass player over 25 years...
Adrian Schmidtke
You're rigth I didn't hear it with my shitty speakers... I missed 3/4 of this masterpiece
PhoeniX936 And now you got it 100% Unbelievable, isn't it? Such a phat sound and such a stuning groove! :D
Adrian Schmidtke It's Neals left hand. He doesn't use the bass pedals.
David Fulford Uuuups... Your right!!! Anyway: incredible groove. But thanks for making this clear.
He definitely loves his Ride cymbal :D
They've just played for 17 seconds and are already sweating ;)
