    Kinda cool to see Morrison carry the father dreams/guidance through and twisting it to introduce Dr. Simon Hurt with the face of Thomas Wayne and claim to be the devil himself.
    Let alone Bruce having the three nightmare dreams of future Batmen.
    I haven’t read this yet, but from this intro to Gothic I feel like Batman The Black Casebook and RIP are the books that directly act as follow up.

    This is one of my favorite Batman comics! There isn't any confirmation but Mr Whisper might be a reinvention of the Mad Monk, a golden age vampire villain. They are the first supernatural Batman threats, both wear dark red, and both are obviously evil monks. Seems like something Morrison would do.

    • @pablofraser5344
      @pablofraser5344 2 года назад +2

      I think you have something there with the reference to the Mad Monk. Note that here, same as the original Mad Monk story, Batman had to travel to Europe to a sinister castle. And in both stories he used the bat-gyro! Also the weird contraption that Mr Whisper used with Batman can be a reference to the silly traps commonly used against Batman in the golden age comics. Finally, the cover of the third chapter is a direct homage to the cover of the original Mad Monk story.

    As far as I know, this is one of the only Batman stories to feature Lucifer Morningstar, which is kinda cool

    I’m surprised, Sal is a big Batman fan and he’s not read this story before? I know even the biggest bat fans haven’t read everything, but this was one of Grant Morrison’s first Batman works(and we all know he’s a big Batman writer... even though I don’t think I know what Sal’s opinion is on Grant’s long Batman run from the mid 2000s to the early 2010s). Still interesting to see Sal not hosting a Batman episode. He’s normally always the Batman/Spider-Man host know it all lol.

    I think if this book was to ever be adapted, they could shift a few things to make it about one of Batman's lesser-known rogues and give him a close personal tie to him and create an epic and horrifying story behind him.
    I think they could do this with Deacon Blackfire. He's got the cult, he's got the immortality, he's got the mysticism, and they could easily combine the characters and still make it flow. Hell, they could still even do the children killing for his whole "bloodbath of the innocent" thing, which they could use to shift the final climax from releasing the plague to instead be a gory mass murder for the bath to make him truly immortal.
    Idk if they'd ever adapt anything like this, but if they did, that's at least how I'd do it.

    1:02:45 Which is odd, because the holiday was about Saint Walpurga who, among other things, was known for being against witches and stuff. The only reference I can find linking Walpurgisnacht to being actual occult stuff is the Black Sabbath song of the same name. And even then, they changed the name and the lyrics, and the original Walpurgis version was only done on a John Peel radio show that's only available via bootleg. So it's a bit of a stretch.

      @@TheTrueJuan ya but not good for conversation. Grant it (ha no pun intended) thw shroom first hour / peak doesn't lend to conversation either but most of it does after the first intense hour
      I have some chemical DMT sitting on my shelf actually but it's annoying to use. Gotta hold in tge smoke like salvia but the vapor is much harsher and hard to do. Haven't really been inclined to use it after the first coupke times. Sorry its fun to converse with other psychonauts whom know what im talking about 😆

    • @TheTrueJuan
      @TheTrueJuan 3 года назад +1

      @@flywheelshyster oh for sure. I understand. I actually wrote a paper and presentation on Ayahuasca for an anthropology class back in college, so I got to go to a Native American reservation and have the ritual with other people. I agree there isn't much talking on the night but the day after when everyone sits down in communion to talk about their experiences and you get a lot of great conversation. Even the night during the "trip."
      I've also taken mushrooms and acid but I agree for conversation. Your millage may vary.
