No joke Tiff, Neil Gaiman would be VERY proud of your presentation of this masterpiece! Your emotionally engaging story-telling style is SUCH a perfect fit, that even after having already read a large chunk of Sandman, I now have a much stronger appreciation for it, and can't wait to pull it out from my shelf again! :D

You did great. I honestly love when you guys have fun and make jokes about good books more than bad. Those are fun too, but if I've read the good book I relive it AND have fun with the jokes. With a bad book, even if I've read it, I just enjoy the jokes.
      Keep up the great work!

There's this chapter where Sandman and Death gave this happy-go-lucky guy immortality. Sandman came to visit him every hundred years or so to see how the guy was doing. They would meet in a diner and talk and the guy would have always gone through some shit; he's rich, he's poor, he fought in a war, he was business man etc etc and with every visit Sandman would ask "how are you liking immortality?" and the guy would be like "it's still the best!". I wont spoil the ending but it made me cry manly tears and is a must read for any comic or Sandman fan.

I've never read Sandman, but they have it at my college library; along with Saga, and I picked that up because of Back Issues. Ever since I found that out I wanted to check it out, but every time I try to get it the first volume was always gone. Even if I don't win the book, I will be purchasing it myself, along with the other volumes, because of this episode instilled in me the utter need to read this book. #sendmesandman

Hey ComicPOP Team! Roughly 4 months ago I stumbled on an episode of Back Issues while at work. I have always been a huge fan of superhero cartoons and movies but I never purchased or read any comics. I began listening to old and new episodes daily and eventually landed on the episode for Kraven's Last Hunt. I was blown away by the story and purchased my 1st comic (well...trade). From that point I picked up some of the classics Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, etc. What started out as me reading a few of the classics has quickly turned into my favorite hobby thanks to you all. Over the past few weeks I have branched out into some of the darker/vertigo titles like Preacher and Hellblazer and have been hearing that Sandman is the title to read. I was very iffy on whether I'd like it or not because I didn't know anything about the plot or the characters. After seeing today's episode I now know that this is something I definitely would love. Thanks for all you do and for introducing me to the world of comics. #SendmeSandman

I'm surprised Sal didn't read this himself as well, as Sandman is regarded as one of the must-read titles for any comic reader. And for very good reason. The story from start to end is amazing, I kept myself from reading the last trade as long as possible because I knew that would be the end for this epic. This comic was so good, that it was pretty much the only non-superhero comic that got into the sales charts in a comic market that at the time was ruled even moreso than now by the superhero..And of course Sandman is a mainstay in the top 5 of any 'best ever' titles lists on any worthwhile comic related website.
This comic was so good, it received a prize that was meant for actual books. and the organisation behind the prize then banned comics from being eligible again in the future because apparantly they were peeved that people could think a mere comic could be better in quality than any book. (spoiler: Sandman is) I'm not much of a fantasy guy, but even when this comic delves into the fantasy realm on many occassions especially in the later arcs, I found it interesting and enthralling. And it must be true because I think this is the 1st time I ever used the word 'enthralling' in an actual sentence. :D
This is one of the best comics ever made, by popular opinion of the comics community even, and should definitely be mandatory reading for any comic fan above 17 years old.

Thank you. There really isn't enough Sandman on RUclips. The people who HAVE read this eat it up, but there isn't too many others they can talk about it to. It isn't underrated, it's under-represented. One of the only other people I've talked about this series to was actually a college professor of mine. Again, thank you, and I'll probably be rewatching this just to hear someone else love it.

I had read a couple Neil Gaiman's novels before picking this series up. The first and second volume were a strange read for me and I almost didn't continue. After some stewing, I continued and ended up loving it. Not only did "Sandman" promote Gaiman to my favorite author position, it also was the series that got me into comics. It gives me great joy that you guys finally covered it on Back Issues. #sendmesandman I have really intense lucid dreams, starting school, I like my black clothes. DC guy... but I've never read Sandman! I've only heard vague descriptions from other people who have read it and didn't want to spoil any of it. Mostly hearing "Dude the serial killer convention story is so fucked up. YOU GOTTA READ IT!" and really the more I hear about it, the more I'm itching to dive into it. Mostly I've heard about the series is Gaiman's aesthetic choices in the series and influences. It sounds almost like one of those books that'd be considered "required reading" for the DC cannon. Tiffany, definitely do more Sandman in the future, it definitely perked my interest and I love anything with Etrigan the Demon in it!

5159 I think you guys are on the right track when you figure that Dream considers murder and inhumanity just none of his business. It happened a few times reading this series when, for example, Rose Walker and Jeb are in increasingly deep trouble in The Doll's House and the suspense is that we're waiting for Dream to come and save them. When they finally meet we find that Dream has been looking for her to kill her. Then you realize: Oh, he's not a super-hero. Same with A Dream of You where the Cuckoo is definitely the bad guy but at then end we find she is just acting according to her nature and Dream completes an age old contract with her. Dream has all the power of the universe but he sticks to his job and his own predetermined set of rules. Gaiman did this a lot. It was so much fun.

Sandman is a title that I've been meaning to pick up not only because it's a Gaiman work but I've been trying to get into more graphic novels ever since I found this channel. Guys, this was one of you're best. Tiff you were great, you did a great job explaining the story and dissecting the little pieces of this beautifull book. Sal and Ben you were funny as always, it's great the see you guys exposed to a type a story you're not familiar with. Now let's hope this episode does well so we can have more volumes in the future.
By the way, Sandman was my first non-superhero book I read when I was young and it completely change my view of comics and art in general, and thanks to you guys I now going to read it again. Keep the good work.

10 volumes is a hell of a commitment for me. This gave me a good idea of what the story is about and it sounds cool. #SendMeSandman

Amazing back issues. Been watching for awhile now and Tiffany has fully come into her own here. The episode in general was great and the editing is on point. This honestly is my favorite back issues now and completely sold me on sandman when after hearing Tiffany go on about it all this time did kind of peek my interest I never really had any intention of pick it up. After watching this I just ordered the vol.1 omnibus and got a good deal at 80$👍. Wish you all much success

I've always seen the book while I was picking up my normal books. I've heard a lot good things, just didn't think it I would dig it, but it seems incredible. The way tiffany tells the story really had me glued to the screen. #sendmesandman

So after watching this I finally got around to reading beyond the first few issues I'd read over and over, and now that I'm 37 issues in I just want to say: Judy, Rose, Barbara, Donna. Wow.

Excellent video! My favorite part is when you say "Here's where it gets dark!" and the reaction. That was hilarious. "He just came back from Hell but HERE is where it gets dark?!?" "There was a woman being eaten by dreams, whose father is goo on a wall but here's where it gets dark!??"

Well, I never read Sandman, but I was always interested in the Vertigo line as a whole. I always thought that Swamp Thing and Constantine were really rad characters whenever they appeared in books I was reading, and I was always told that Sandman was one of the greatest comics of all time. I think the reason why I never got around to reading Sandman was because everyone always told me I needed to read it and how incredible it was. It just never felt like a discovery of my own or my own choice I guess. However, now that I watched this episode it made me feel like a grand old dumbass, cause it sounds like it is right up my alley, from the horror and darkness to the magic and mythology of it, I now realize the error of my ways. So I would love to be sent a copy by the wonderful folks who showed me the gorgeousness and gorgeousity I have missed out on or I will go out and get it my own damn self, cause I'm not missing out on this any longer! #SendMeSandman

When I was kid I was addicted to Gailman's Sandman. Incidentally, around about the same time I was also buying old copies of Jack Kirby's Sandman. The dark, nineties, moody horror of Gailman's Sandman was the polar opposite to Kirby's rather innocent, camp seventies, superhero Sandman. It was great to see these two disparate worlds collide when the Kirby Sandman wound up in Gailman's darker version as a sad pathetic pretend "Sandman" being manipulated by the ridiculous Kirby characters of Glob and Brute.

You guys have pushed me to pick that bad boy up regardless if I win! I only discovered you guys and my lady at the beginning of summer and I've been going through your back catalogue and thank you! I love you guys!
The moment that stood out to me was regarding death and dream going about together as death did her job. It not only highlighted the brevity of live, but that we all have a purpose in life. For some that's to do great things, others inspire those around them to do so as their loved ones live was cut short. Also, I love how dream doesn't call his sister death, as she's more then that. Kinda emphasises the notion of not judging a book by its cover. Well at least that's the message I took from it.
I would love, love, love if you guys and girl chose me #sendmesandman
    Please keep it up!
    Love Rob from Ireland.

This was one of the back issues episodes that I've had on my watch later list for years, as I always planned to experience the series first hand without the influence of others.
I knew I would enjoy it based off of synopsis' and DC's mythological/religious stories, so I ordered the Omnibus years ago but today was the first time I dove into it after you guys released the episode of Volume 2 (tbh it gave me the kick that i needed to start this journey) and I am very glad that I have started.
I'm looking forward to reading vol2 tonight and the rest as time goes on but this was a great video from tiffany & I wish I started the series earlier!
