Laos National Dish LAAP (This one was my favorite) + VIENTIANE Cooked Food Market | LAOS

- Day two from Vientiane.
I went on the search for a Khao jee sandwich and ended up at a place that seemed to be serving up more of a Banh mi style baguette sandwich. No matter what, the sandwich was absolutely phenomenal.
Next, I had what was probably one of my favorite meals in all of Laos. A super spicy, bitter, and funky laab pia. This thing rocked my world, in a good way. Perfectly combined with the soup.
Next day I started off with some pounded salads. Of course I had a very spicy and funky tum mak hoong and then since I cannot read the local language. I just closed my eyes and picked another type of pounded salad. The second couldn’t have been more perfect as it was sour and a tad bit sweet.
Then of course I went for some noodles. Long, white, chewy noodles in a flavor packed chicken broth. The broth was by far the winner as it was rich, garlicky, and had an intense chicken flavor.
Lastly, I went to a market! A much more local market than what I thought I was going to! It had a ton of local dishes prepared for take and go. Unfortunately, I had no where to go so I just had a nice little snack to finish the day off!

my wife is Lao, this video reminds us of how wonderful Lao food is and made us a little homesick. Thank you. The sausage is best in Luang Prabang and the papaya salad, tum (pounded) markhung (papaya) is their national dish! Thailand's version is pale in comparison.
Congrats on 100k subscribers Max!!! YOu deserve it. Keep up the great videos. Im looking forward to your Kunming videos.

Hello Max in Laos. Omg so much food...the sandwich looked so good. Looks like you are ready for splash plash. Ready for a super chillie dish. You eat so good, and your face says it all. What’s going on...chillie induced sweat.😋😋😋😋. Whoa white shirt. Good job no splash. Thanks Max for a delicious blog.

So much peppers and chili, you are making my mouth burn. I’m part Thai and Lao but my pepper tolerance is weak. You’re good 👍👍👍. Love from Atlanta

Hey Max! Great videos! Just a comment...would be great if you added a couple of minutes showing us the city you are visiting between meals. I’m sure you have thought of this. Congrats almost 100K!
yes, I would love to do more of this. Honestly, I have a lot of ideas, but time and my editing skills are really hindering my creativity right now. I have an idea for fixing it soon though
Even Max can't explain when the food is soooo good. That's how a delicious food can make you speechless 😝
Omg you make me hungry sir 😋 I miss my lao food and thank you kob jai

Thank you! Finally made it!!!
Congratulations for hitting 100k subscribers!
Ayyyyy thank you so much! Feels really good!
That sausage is called sai gaok in Laos. It's Lao food and very delicious with many herbs in it. Just little history here, part of Laos was conquered by Thai King then, therefore you have all these Lao influence foods in Thailand. The Northern Thailand, isaan were once part of Laos, that's why they speak Lao. You can use chicken, duck, pork, or beef to make Laap. The laap, papaya salad and so forth are Lao national foods. If you want the real stuff, go to Laos, the origin of many delicious Lao foods.
thank you so much for the information. I heard that Isaan region and Laos used to always go back and forth until one day government said the river is the divider. I really enjoyed that story.
👍👍👍!!!
Oh my, khao pia sen, I'm drooling along with you. Yum yum, Im hungrrry 😋
Hi Max, congratulation 99.2 K SUBSCRIBED . The number getting up there. Good job.
yes, we are getting close!
@@Macoi24 Yes, we are and I do hope more people SUBSCRIBED to your Channel , so you can made $$ for your food tour . I watch every one of your video.
Woww, this is fantastic. you've actually finished Laap. to be honest you handle spicy well than me lol
This LAAP restaurant is the best in Vientiane, no doubt. my all time favourite place.
Yummy! Laap and papaya salad are my favorite dishes. I love spicy foods! :)
It’s so nice that you enjoy the food & the culture of my country & my people .. Buddha bless 🙏🏽🙏🏽.. new subbie🥰🙏🏽
yesss, my pleasure!!!!!
That laap looks good - so much mint in there
it needed it forsure
Omg, you have a strong stomach! Hope you have some pepto Bismo with you. Btw, I ❤️ Lao food. One of the best cuisines.
Sticky rice will taste better if you squeeze it tight before dipping into the food Yum😋
One thing I find really refreshing about your videos is that you don't talk with your mouthful, and often cut to the food when talking. Too many youtube food blogs end up showing us half a mouthful of food when talking!
I am glad you noticed. thanks!
Wow !! She gave you bitter melon leaves and Asian version of mustard green a long with the larb
Hey Maximo , Loved it of course . Have you ever met a pepper you couldn't handle ? It's almost deer season here . Do you guys have white tail or Mule deer out west ? Also did you hunt ? I'm a wuss , couldn't do it , but , I love venison.
Hmmm, not yet, but I have met some really hot peppers. We have white tail. I hunted a little bit, but just not my thing.
All food great and delicious Max 👌👍❤
Just wondering here Max.After eating all these super spicy, bold flavours and exotic Asian food. How do you go back to the more subtle and easier on the palette Western cuisine?
Hmmm, I am not really sure. Havn't had that problem yet haha
Laarb and khao-niew "sticky rice, always hits the spot!
Damm you make the food looks hecca good and I appreciate you sharing my Lao culture food. I'm visiting there next year can't wait to visit the motherland
Dawg you rock! Thanks for sharing
Oh, when you are back in town, where do you go buy Asian Grocery, as in Chili among other things? I know Ft. Smith has large Asian Grocery Stores, owned by Laotian & Vietnamese people, have you been there yet?
Yes! one of my first stops, yet I don't go home often.
Dude, I can travel and eat with you. I've never seen anyone eat chilis like you, especially a white guy. Love the southern accent.
Maly Bryan You apparently don’t realize Europeans like spicy food. Not to mention some Laos dishes originated from the French. Look it up.
Yum....watching you eat I'm drooling 😋😋😋😋
That sandwich looks real tasty and I like the drink at the end. It would be a perfect fast meal for me. You're in Laos? hop in Vietnam, spring rolls awaiting there.
I will be back:)
Watching yr video make me hungry hahahh, nice video
Lao laap national dish and lao papaya National dish so populat now that thai restaurant in U S now have on their menu..depends on where u go..in Lao People made different papaya some use peanuts..depends on ur taste bud and region..
Hi. Because the Tam Mak Hoong is very savory and spicy, it is eaten with the raw vegetables and sweet rice. I saw you didn't touch the cabbage on that plate. The seafood "salad": Those clear noodles might be Jellyfish. I saw the calamari pieces. But, I read the store sign. All kinds of "salads" for only 10K Kips or 1 dollar each. Crazy! So, we always pair the spicy with the not spicy (green vegetables including cabbage, eggplants, cucumbers and even long green beans.
Laos style papaya always the best to eat. Yummy
love it so much
That's because laap and papaya salad are Lao National Foods. Original always tastes better
Marching towards first 100k subscribers and many more ahead, good vids, cheers!
first major milestone of many!
You got me craving for larb now, think I will grab some for dinner tonight 😋😋
Hi Max, I was just wondering how you get start on traveling and eating in Asian Countries. How long do you plan? Did you just woke up one day and pack your bag and run? Are you the type to fly by the seat of your pants? I get the giggle every time I hear you say "Y'all" and when your roll your tongue when you say "Roti." Oh, have you had Prawn Fritter yet? I think you can find it in Thailand & Cambodia. It's delicious as snack. I had it a lifetime ago & still remember how good it was. If you had it already, was it good? If not yet, please make sure to try. Be safe & keep on eating! Wooooooo Pig Soooooooooooie!
Yessss, WOOO PIG SOOOIIEEE!!! Haha I have a lot of LIVE streams where I have answered your questions better! However, every last Friday I have a live stream and I will answer all your questions:)
@@Macoi24 I don't get home from work until 10 p.m., then had to give my mom her medication, then if my husband is home, I cook his dinner, then...I'd fall asleep, but I'll try to stay up if I can, if not, you know I'll catch up with your vids sooner or later. You are so sweet for taking the time to answer some comments. Focus on positive things, ignore the negative things, ok?

That is some high praise, thank you very much Scripner🙏
Texas Fried Chicken in the background @ 12:43 Did you pick that spot on purpose? Love the irony of it all when you went the other way for the traditional Laotian food! 👍👍👍

I think Viet is a little cheaper
Wow 🤩. Look yummy 😋
Aye! Okay Max! ❤️🇱🇦 Laap & thum muck houng is everyone’s fave. 🤤😄 You took one for the team with all those chilies; you almost died! 😆😂💪
Have you ever tried Thailand's Laap? Is it similar to Loas' Laap?(I've never tried it before.) All dishes in Laos look delicious. Luang Prabang papaya salad is my favorite dish.(I ate it once.) Love your videos.
yes, I have had both types!
Lao National food therefore it tastes way better in Laos. Trust me on this. So is Papaya salad and that sai gaok, (sausage)
Laap is still historically and traditionally Lao, although it has spread to Thailand by the Lao people..but everybody makes their own version now a day
