Full review on the way!
Still a Mitakon with a German build housing.
even worse. Its the same EXACT thing. Public statement by Meyer Optik parent company.
So after all it turns out it was indeed a mitakon lens all the time .. have to say it's funny to watch these reviews of the nocturnus now
Agreed
both the Mitakon & Nocturnus have 10 elements in 7 groups, so whatever the company Meyer-Opticz says, there is a possibility of these two lenses sharing a common design (including similar 67" filter), and the 2 differences are 15 aperture blades (smoother bokeh) versus 9, and Coatings, both of which are in favor of the Nocturnus. Tony Northrup pointed out that Mitakon has a Tstop of f/1.4, so there's one stop of light loss, and thus, only the F/stop (0.95)or DoF advantage is available, and exposure benefit is lost.
Thanks, Regards.
Yes but most other lenses that fast have more than half a stop between f and t.
Canon 50 1.2 is t1.5, so 2/3 of a stop.
Even otus lenses at 1.4 are t1.7-1.8.
Nikom 58g t1.7
Etc...
But sony 85gm is t1.5
I am no expert just looking at dxomark..
The company admits this was a Mitakon. Scandal 2019.
looking forward to more thorough review and comparison of other qualities to mitakon besides depth of field and shape of bokeh.
I am looking at the samples and I am 100% sure that this is Mitakon 50 0.95 with different outfit and much higher price :)
and u were right
Thanks for doing this review. I'm a lens nut and Actually have the vintage gorlitz trioplan 50mm so I know the Lineage of this company but I didn't know they were back in the game. I'm curious why there are so many sour pusses in the comment section. LOL.
I bought one of these - it made an excellent hood ornament for my Edsel.
the mitakon 35mm f0,95 does not let more light to the sensor than a nikkor or canon 35mm 1.4 thats what i have read the T-stop is the same on mitakon f-0.95 as the canon or nikkor 35mm 1.4- you wil geth the same shutter speed with canon 1.4 vs mitakon 0.95
Wow, that is a Beautiful 50mm Lens,,, & f.95 !!! Have to check this one out.
I admit the exterior design is nice and unique.. however, at the same time, it doesn't look like there's much grip.. may not be that big a deal if it moves as smoothly as you say it does.
what little you've shown and what may be available online to view looks promising.
look forward to seeing more from you on this lens when you've had a chance to use it more.
I'd be curious to see when that Nocturnus 35 f0.95 is released. Looks like that's catered more for crop sensor cameras with APS-C and MFT. There's bound to be comparison's to that and the Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 II which is quite nice for about 1/4 the price.. but, maybe there will be something to this lens that may justify the price tag. Will see.. hope you get to review that one, also, when it is released.
I bought this lens from B&H, honestly, I am very disappointed. You emphasised that the lens is totally different with Mitakon, but through my test, the performance is exactly the same. At f/.95 the image is very soft and the contrast is very low. The focus ring is slippery, if you have sweat in your hand, it is very difficult to operate. If this lens is sold for less than 1,000$, I have nothing to say. It is definitely not worth the price!
The performance is the same because it is the same lens :)
I found the same thing
2:20 Now the company has revealed it's the same lens. :( Rumors turned out to be true. Find the article in PetaPixel.
The finger up was not for your review (which is good one),...but to visit your mom! :)
"not made in China".....hahahaha...how do you feel now! "it's not the Mitakon" hahahahahaha This proves that you don't need to spend thousands!
I do have SLR MAGIC 25mm T 0,95 and 10mm T 2,1 :))
Thanks for the review. Have you tried the Zhongyi Mistaken 50mm f0.95? How does this one compare against the Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f0.95? Thanks!
Same lens. Just 10x more expensive. Company recently apologized for the scandal.
$3,000.00 for a 50mm lens? I think there are many that sell for less and have excellent results with full auto-focus capabilities, no lag, less vig, better boc, etc. AND good ole' made in the usa (japan/china) manufacturing we have come to know and despise on a regular basis.
I see dogs, I click like!
This should be compared side by side with the Zeiss Loxia 50.
F/2 vs F/0.95
The end
Nop, not at all. First of all, those two lenses are mainly street lenses so they will very rarely be shot at f2.0 and even less at f0.95. Then of course, a lens built to the f0.95 standard should usually perform better, even at f8 but still it doesn't make the comparison result known in advance, or useless. Characters, colors, etc. will differ. And finally, even great lenses need to be put in perspective with others because it is a refinement of the last %. If you don't analyse relatively then you basically did nothing, because all those $1k+ lenses are great if you just look at them independently.
Street photography? Well, in case of manual focusing we are not talking about f/2.0, we are talking about f/5.6 or something like this.
And the difference between any good lenses should be negligable here. So again, f/2 vs f/0.95. You needn't f/0.95? The end)
That's precisely my point. For street photography, which again will be the main target for this kind of lens (if you don't need the portability this small factor provides, there are far better choices), we shoot at f8.0 most of the time (f5.6 is usually still too shallow to get a proper manual focus), so you can't settle your judgment only upon this f2.0 vs f0.95.
But it doesn't mean at all the difference at f8 will be "negligible". I can tell you I see a huge difference between my Otus at f8 and my Loxia at f8. And I'm pretty much certain my Otus will perform better that this Nocturnus, yet my Otus is _only_ f1.4 compared to this f0.95 Nocturnus. Comparing lenses only with a simple comparison of the maximum aperture spec is really short-sighted. There is so much more that comes into play, chromatic aberration, sharpness, bokeh, light transmission, micro contrast, etc. and most importantly the colors, the character of the lens..
Which again comes back to f/0.95. This lens is not designed to be optimal 50mm lens, it is designed to achieve f/0.95.
That means it has ridicolous amount of glass, and glass is always a compromise - you have to sacrifice something.
If you don't need such a wide aperture, I can't really justify carring it for shooting at f/8.
Take a look at design of this Nocturnus. It's using the same principle as Herzberger did - relatively long, almost telephoto planar, covering wide area + converting group at the rear, reducing focal lenght and increasing your aperture. It is designed to achieve that 0,95 and deliver usable image there. Aberration? Yeah, but that's f/0.95 after all. Why Mitakon is worse despite sharing the same principle? Cheapo chinese coating can't deal with reflections caused by exessive amount of glass. Why Leica is slightly better, but cost a lot? It's based on original design which improves it's performance, but RnD should be a huge part of the price. Is it any good for shooting at f/8? I don't think so.
And Zeiss... Well, these are just lenses, designes with other charecteristics in mind. Otus, for example, is a huge and expensive lens, designed to eliminate all possible destorsion, aberration and whatnot at f/1.4 and beyond on DSLR or DSLT camera. Batis 55mm is literally the same for f/1.8 and mirrorless - it just sacrifices a little bit of aperture to provide better size. But do you need this at f/8? Well, again, I think it's just over the top.
And Loxia is a classic planar lens as it is. Reliable design, reliable quality, better size and price. It's sharp, it should have superior transmission, colors and contrast due to low elements count, and aberrations well controlled in post today. Size - f/2.0 save a lot here. And price... Well, there are a lot of alternatives in terms of price - there certainly should be some really affordable Soviet or Zeiss DDR alternatives for Loxia. Coatings are not as important here, and optical design is literally the same. The only difference is Loxia being brand new product - but yeah, it's a good one. 1 Otus = 4 Loxias. So what's suits street photoghraphy better?
Long story short, f/0.95 vs f/1.4 vs f/2.0 and you need f/8. The end)
But does it talk to ghosts?
When you rebrand Chinese lenses you need to make nice wooden box(in china as well) sheeple will like it. :) Good luck photographers.
Rebranded? You think it's a Mitakon?
He does now
@@cremersalex when Meyer Optik closed. The parent company revealed that it is an EXACT clone of the 10 times cheaper Mitakon.
is there a cheaper option. I don't have money to shell out on those great lens
The Mitakon is the EXACT same thing.
3 Grand !!! Holy Cow, get a Zeiss ,,
Sorry for this but this lens is just finished in Germany. Components are made in rpc
I doubt this lenses smaller in size than the noctilux, it looks a little longer and it has a 67mm dis vs noctilux's 60mm dia
As usual, too much talk and no pics to show
What is your vlog camera ? Autofocus is sooooo faaaast !!
Canon C100 MKII with 16-35 III. I bought this for a documentary project this summer and now use it for this as well. Works out great.
let me know if you stop in Dallas!
There was something before it. Way before it. Nothing will ever come close to the 50mm f0.95 Canon. Made in the 70’s!
Andrew V Yes, your are right. But that hughe lens only had acceptable performances when stopped down; unless you love impressionist-like, ultra-soft images.
"not made in china...not made in japan", yeah like those are the same place or same build quality smdh
Interesting lens
Wow! I didn't know an f0.95 lens existed
oh .. .also a f0.7. but not affordable :D

seems that they did some changes, compared to version 1. but not enough to change from mitakon to meyer görlitz. better go mitakon for cheapo.

i have a mitakon since two years and its also a heavy built, solid lens. it gives me some really nice pictures over and over again in the night.
No here is the answer www.stevehuffphoto.com/2017/05/13/the-meyer-optik-gorlitz-50-f0-95-nocturnus-ii-lens-speed-bokeh-for-your-sony/
hi, whats the Tstop for this lens as compared to that of the leicaNoct?
No way was this lens designed in Germany. Totally false.
www.stevehuffphoto.com/2017/05/13/the-meyer-optik-gorlitz-50-f0-95-nocturnus-ii-lens-speed-bokeh-for-your-sony/
This is why you shouldn’t spent to much on lenses.
How about using these lens with the Sony A6000
Did you do a full review on this lens
you live in Phoenix? I live in Mesa
Looks like this lens is "No Longer Available" - so says BH, Meyer Optic, maybe your dogs are to blame!
Waiting for Allison Angel
Is it have autofocus??
Do you think i can mount that on my LEICA SL601?
how to get your samples high resolution?
meh... Leica Noctilux 50mm might be a better lens because while made in Germany is a huge plus, Leica glass takes it to the next level.
I need a 24mm for a6500, that is not the sony zeiss 24mm 1.8. Suggestion?
only name , sharp?
The Nocturnus mkI was a Mitakon . Now they have changed the cosmectic , construction and the number of blades. They claim to use different glass , who knows?
Made in Germany ? So what , for decades japanese quality is at the top when they want ( Voigt, Zeiss ) .

Did you hookup from Grindr show up to early?
Is it manual focus only?
yes.
Very nice piece of glass. To bad it takes a month for its delivery. The anomaly on those lenses that create the bubble bokeh it was worth the wait and the money. All of the big online store its only pre order. I went straight to the source . Got a great deal on some the kick starters campaign, Beyer have on the web site. . AAAAAmazing deals.
I need 1.6mm of DoF .... I am a parasite gear reviewer.
$400 Nikon Nikkor f/1.2 ... have a nice day.
Stop by socal Downey, ca and dump some of the talent on me ?
please hurry up with this review.... im getting tired of waiting. than u for your videos
Looks like a Tamron from the 80s.
so? even this better it's A sony it's will die 3 days after the warranty
expired, IMHO. IMHO sony have A special department that works on the planned death of they devices. so for me, sony should have at least 7
years unlimited warranty for only start thinking about. or show me that
Kai make with sony same torture that he did with 7D)))
Wtf? I've had Sonies for years and I've never had any problem!
so you are lucky. me not)))also for years it for how long? people still trying to sell 5d 2005 and you sonny ?
my sony a230 and nex6 still kicking out. And in sony alpha forum a900 still being sold.
Germany is overrated and so is the Leica its Japan that takes the cake in quality. Nice dogs.
Nope not really. Sigma lenses are good allrounders but the main quality is not very good. The most lenses from Sigma are not weather seald and haven't any OS and the resolution is not very high
no I don't like dogs
Sorry but when I think of German products I think CRAP !! 90% of all their cars are crap and their industrial machines are CRAP!! Had 3 German cars in the past and all 3 broke down or had constant problems ALL THE TIME, I was lucky to get 2 months with no issues. I was a factory worker in my 20's and this is also when I got my first experience with German made machines. They replaced all the American production equipment with New German equipment and our production when down 60% !!! after 3 years of fighting with the crap the BEST we got was 40% down in production from the OLD American equipment. Same story with a different company except worse, 95% loss in production. I warned them and told them about my experience but the German company offered a performance warranty which they did NOT honor.
Cyberslug1 most products are not 100% from a single countries like cars which have parts from different countries especially considering so many trade deals in place
Well, you are successfully using US lenses on your camera, right? Not at all those craps marked Leica, Schneider-Kreuznach, Zeiss or Voigtlander (these latter produced in Japan, as part of the Zeiss ones, but based on German designs), I suppose.
Saying German products are crap is a unilateral statement. Worse still is that it is something that an uneducated and inexperienced fool would say. You probably think Ford is faster than AMG, too. Better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.
Lmao someone makes a 0.95
mitakon also makes a 0.95 for full frame e mount
@@legendp2011 Meyer Optik parent company recently apologized. Its the same EXACT lens as the Mitakon.
@@RepublicAllegiance lol, so it's basically the same Lens
this is embarrassing !

Indeed...
