Man, this is priceless. I already kind of knew everything you said but it was an awesome reminder and you explained everything perfectly. People, thank the gods of internet and youtube for this amazing and funny teacher! And do the goddamn studies! (and support him on Patreon! 1$ a month is nothing!)
You are so scientific about lighting and that really really helps me to understand lighting better. Thank you so much! Please, don't ever avoid the scientific parts in your videos!
Dante, You are by far the best art teacher on youtube. your approach of explaining colors and ligting through a scientific standpoint of photons makes everything so understandable! It is a treat to see how you tackle these painting processes like a cooking recipe enabling aspiring artist to follow along and learn. Thank you. sincerely - a fan
I've learned more by just watching this video series than every other tutorial with this subject. I think it's this extra connection that makes it easier for me since I also have some background-knowledge about 3D rendering. But it's the presentation and perfect explenation of both worlds that makes this so amazing! I never would have made the same conclusions all by myself in. Maybe after years of observation and experimentation. I mean I already recognized some patterns, but the resulting rules are hard to figure out. I'm probably going to watch every video you made now!! :^)
Awesome tuto man! You really got the physics of light working, thats really condensed knowledge you give easily when I suppose you acquired it hardly. Thanks for the generosity! Hope to be able to apply it correctly and remember the tips!
This is *_REALLY_* great! Thanks so much for doing this. You have provided a lot of excellent theory *_and_* application. I would have hoped that you also go into some depth with the actual rendering, if not here, then in another painting. I'm talking about close-up views of the process.
I have been searching for this type of tutorials for a lot of time, your channel is amazing! (althoug I skeap spanish and I ´m not exelent at englich at al but, I learned a lot :D)
I've been looking a lot at SCPs after I found out about them from your videos, would love to see you draw SCP-549 if you have the time. I'd love to see your take on the idea of, in short, a grizzly bear in a terrarium. Would also be nice to see another drawing focused on plants/animals instead of people.
thank you sm, i finally actually UNDERSTAND how it _works._ light and colour were weird mathematical gibberish to me and now it's not. this could actually be fun lmao
What book would you recommend for painting light and color? I have read a book on this subject by James Gurney. A good book, definitely. Though, your explanations appear to be more in depth.
Please, can you paint an underwater creature called the Bloop? In 1997 there was a sound heard by scientists over 3000 miles away from the source at a low frequency. It was calculated that the sound that loud would've had to have come from something a little bit smaller than the Eiffel tower. At first, they thought it was a bomb but the sound had a frequency too low for that. If you look on youtube you can find videos with the sound.Your videos and I think this would be really interesting for you to paint. Thanks :)
Hi Borodante, do you know how to paint shadows with gradients only? Does such a technic exist at all? Thanks for your indepth explanations, keep up the good work.
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see. I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy Because I'm easy come, easy go, little high, little low any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me Mama, just killed a man put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead Mama, life had just begun, but now I've gone and thrown it all away Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry if I'm not back again this time tomorrow carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters Too late, my time has come send shivers down my spine body's aching all the time goodbye everybody, I've got to go got to leave you all behind and face the truth Mama, ooh, I don't want to die, I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all *guitar solo*
Hey! Great informative video but a quick comment there is a bit of a problem with the anatomy of the right shoulder and arm. It needs to be moved to the right a bit. Anyways nice vid thanks!!
I think that's because the light is up in the arm example from this video, while the shirt is being lit from the front. Think like when in tv characters put a flashlight below their faces to look scary/dramatic, same light, but the position creates the effect...
This is _literally_ the best tutorial on lighting and skin I've ever seen. I am absolutely sure of it. The best.
I agree
I've been taking classes, and I also agree. This is the best I've seen so far. Thanks Borodante!
I have seen many tutorials but this is one of the best I have seen so far. Great and informative!

you explain everything so well. I understand much better when i get it explained in the way you do it. It helps so much. Thank you!

What a lesson! thanks for this video, I just learned how to color shade skin, and the most important about this is, the fundamentals behind it.
Awesome tuto man! You really got the physics of light working, thats really condensed knowledge you give easily when I suppose you acquired it hardly. Thanks for the generosity! Hope to be able to apply it correctly and remember the tips!
you deserve more views and thumbs up, good job on this series!
Really great lessons. Thank you!

Eleanor Russell Sounds cool.
It's because of a iceberg melting and falling, if I remember, but google it to make sure.
Wow :O

That sounds a lot like how comic books _used_ to be colored. It's a little hard to see how it could be made realistic, though...
Comic books? Interesting. I'll investigate this question immediately. :)
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see.
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go, little high, little low
any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me
Mama, just killed a man

Mama, life had just begun, but now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry
if I'm not back again this time tomorrow
carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come
send shivers down my spine
body's aching all the time
goodbye everybody, I've got to go
got to leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooh, I don't want to die,
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

Heeey borodante, please please please, can't you please paint a jellyfish.....???????
😱 Borodante can you paint an alien in space with big muscles?
Poll. Give me a thing, a living thing, and a setting. I'll be eventually doing comics and animation for my channel for now just comics. Thanks.
Hey! Great informative video but a quick comment there is a bit of a problem with the anatomy of the right shoulder and arm. It needs to be moved to the right a bit. Anyways nice vid thanks!!
Agreed, lol
I think the lighting on that arm looks so dramatic compared to the lighting on the t-shirt.
I think that's because the light is up in the arm example from this video, while the shirt is being lit from the front. Think like when in tv characters put a flashlight below their faces to look scary/dramatic, same light, but the position creates the effect...
After watching this I feel so educated but I dont even do digital paintings lmao
Geez, you'll have to do a video on darker skin tones because what you said applies only to fair skin.
I don't like the eyebrows
