I plan on doing MHS stage 2 cams myself in the near future, along with springs, adjusters and followers, valve seals, timing, etc. However I also plan on doing all of the labor myself which will save a LOT of cash. Plus I love my old 2v. She's been good to me for a long time. If you can do the install yourself, I'd say it's totally worth it.
They’re certainly expensive. Want to know something sad in comparison to modular motors? I’m buying a top end kit for my sbc 408 ci. It’ll be around $2,500 for everything and will make around 425+ at the crank. And it’s not even that radical of a setup.
@@CarGuyV8 if I could do it again I would have Coyote swapped. I'm rebuilding every part of this car. I got it cheap, it sat for 3 years after it developed a rod knock. It's a fun project.
Bruh, for that amount you could build a high compression 2V. Pistons are $6-900, rods are about a $5-700, nsr mutha thumper cams are $870. You've already got PI heads. Or if you're a savage you'll find some 3V heads from a scrap yard and mutha thump those bitches and slap them on your 4.6. 3V heads flow 216cfm intake bone stock.
I thought I was on top with my 97. Had it finally driving nice after sitting for 7 years. Had a new top installed. It’s a convertible. Finally got the or h pipe and flows sounding good. Put shocks struts and subframe connectors. New tires. Was about to buy rear control arms and BANG a tree falls on it. WTF! Now I’m set back and have to buy 2 fenders and a hood. Just remember the parts you pay and put into may not be able to get back. Always wanted to do cams but I just can’t see the price for them.
I drove it for over a year without any problems after the cams swap. It was great. I sold it though and bought a couple of classic trucks that took it’s place.
Yes!! But nothing wrong with a built engine 1st, then a blower, that's just how i see it.. Start with a 2v stroker forged internal kit, then everything else..
Just toss a spinnie boy supercharger and get most bang for your buck! Then when you can afford to toss in cams it'll really jam out almost as good as a 5.0 windsor! Jus messing.
@Nature Awakening Meditation yes a tune and the beehive springs, and the stock springs can bind at upper rpms. You can also go with long tube headers to take advantage of the extra air flow as well.
I was going to boost my 04 Mustang GT automatic but then i found a 14 Mustang GT 6 speed and spent my boost money for a down payment now i under stand that both cars have personalities and boy I love them both but the 5.0hhhhhhh yea
Nice car, thanks for the post. I think there is a lot of value in the older mustangs, even the SN95's. For what it is, it's an affordable practical sporty car (contrasting the mustang to my C6 Z06 and sport bikes). However, on the performance side 1 liter sport bikes are the way to go, just make training a high priority and don't kill yourself. Honestly, the 550HP 6 speed Corvette feels like dog compared to the bikes, so the mustang will never be an F1 Indy car, from power or handling, and I won't even try. With acceleration, the bikes have seriously ruined things for me... People don't believe me, but if into acceleration: 490 Ibs with 180 hp is NATURAL GIDDY HIGH FUN - LIKE SKY DIVING - SCARY FAST (JUST SHARING). Nothing like it. This summers current project car is a Mustang 1998 GT 5 speed. It has been sitting in my yard for 12 years but I think its going to turn out awesome. I'm rebuilding the T45 now putting in new upgraded synchros (when new was best transmission ever - super smooth), then will be putting in a 3.73 with new internals. A bottom up restore, all new stock brakes, suspension and tires. I haven't decided what I'm doing with the 2V when I pull it out, but overall I'm going for the stock look and reliability. Make the mustang what it should have been when it was new. Any suggestions on the motor? My initial thought was ported PI heads, PI intake, and Comp Cams 262 degreed. Would slotting the pistons make an impact? The stock engine always felt too much like a truck engine. My goal is more power but make it more rev happy and matched to the 3.73 gear & T45 for daily fun drivability. Then I'm going to put some serious miles on it.
I’m never going to get a bike because I’m afraid it will take away all the enjoyment I get out cars. As for the engine sounds like a decent setup but I wouldn’t expect much more than 280 wheel. Maybe a little more. These are good boost engines if you want more power.
Nice ride man! I say yes absolutely worth it. Mhs stage 2 cams here, did all work myself changed everything I could while apart from lash adjusters to seals, oil pump, ford racing timing components, etc etc etc and I haven’t figured exactly but probably 2800 or so and worth every dime imo. Runs and drives great and I can’t get enough of that idle 😃👍Thumbs up and new Sub!
CarGuyV8 I love the stinger sound and I have been thinking of trying them. I have an 01 Bullitt in true blue with stock manifolds, off road h and jones full boar deflector 2 mufflers. I have some exhaust samples on my channel if your interested in hearing it
Totally agree 3100 bucks for 40 hp Isnt worth that at all!!! U could have procharged it for that and gained 200 hp but I’m sure u would have to do a few other things to procharge it but would be a better performance then just cams
Nice idle. I believe your valve overlap is 8 degrees.

262 is a stage 1 comp cam.
Just picked up a car that is identical to yours. Great video, thanks for the input. Which short shifter do you have?
I couldn’t tell you. It was on the car when I bought it
Stop thinking about it and just cam it already!

What about porting cc port matching bowl blending and polishing the heads with a 3 angle valve job ?
Great video how many miles do you have on your car
It had 150xxx in the video
I love an honest review. 👍
What spark plugs should I use in my 2001 gt 2v that in installed a mild set of cams in. It’s also tuned.
Water pump is on the accessory belt not gear driven. Think you meant oil pump
I don't know much about cams but they make more power
I'm rebuilding the engine in my 2000, I think I will finish it at around $4500. I'll be happy if it's over 300hp at the crank.

had to change the alternator, thats why people love 2valves.
Run a Comp cams 262AH. Run a larger throttle body. Add a cheater NOS kit. Depending on your transmission. Plan accordingly.. Go have fun.
Cms stage 1 cams pi swap and longubes here totally worth it
What wheels are you using? Where could I find those?
They’re 03 cobra reps. Used to be sold on American muscle .com

Thanks great information 👍🏿
I plan on doing cams, as well as an x pipe, new headers, and some new rims
That’ll sound great!
I love this guy’s personality and honesty. I’d hang out with this guy and turn wrenches with him all day.
A trick: you can watch series on flixzone. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Jadiel Abdiel yup, have been watching on Flixzone} for since december myself :)
I did a stage 3 cam on mine and took it for a dyno, but had trouble tunning it losses power at 4500 rpm does anyone know why?
Did you upgrade the fuel pump or fuel injectors?

I just got quoted $4,500 tuned, minus the cams 💔
Yeah it’s definitely expensive...
Gt are fun to burn rubber & do donuts a mach1 or cobra is more for a straight line.
Not enough chop for me

@Yasser Navarrete yes but I would start with boost the cam latter
@Yasser Navarrete hell yeah if your building the motor it’s going to cost 💲
Got some custom grind cams from Todd Warren on the way. The money is worth the lope to me lol
If I had known about him at the time I would’ve too.
Marty says he's the go to for cams
Witaf lmao didn't even make through your walk around music. Just say what ya gotta say. Who cares about the walk around lol

It sounds good and looks good! I have an 02 GT thanks for some ideas.

It's only worth it, if you do it yourself. For that money just add a used supercharger, exhaust and a tune. You are good to go , screw the cams.
After watching a few videos like this im just gonna sink the money into a vortech v3 kit instead
I don’t blame you. You’ll definitely gain a lot more power for the money. Unfortunately it won’t lope though!
