DIY - Pro Audio Plate Amplifier Powered Subwoofer

- Today we are building a home theater subwoofer that exactly looks like the very popular SVS PB-2000 Pro subwoofer. We copy everything from the flared front-firing ports, the dark oak veneer skin, and the corner edge contour look and feel, just one exception is the subwoofer driver.
Main components used are the following:
1. Champion Series Pioneer TS-W1212S4 / TS-W12S4 Single 4 Ohm Subwoofer
2. NTBD Pro 1500DT 1500w Subwoofer Plate Professional Audio Class D Amplifier
Building a subwoofer that replicates the appearance and performance of a commercial product like the SVS PB-2000 Pro involves several considerations, including design, materials, and electronics. Keep in mind that building a subwoofer requires technical skills, and if you're not experienced in woodworking, electronics, and speaker design, it's recommended to seek assistance or purchase a pre-built unit.
Enclosure is entirely made of MDF. Most tasks are just circular saw cutting and router edge rounding. The trickiest part of the project is adhering the Chinese-made plastic veneer. It supposed to be a synthetic wood veneer but the product is so inferior, its thickness is just about a piece of paper, leaving several imperfections.

The plate amplifier was flush-mounted at the back panel of the enclosure. Bringing out the aesthetics of the overall product. Professional grade amplifiers are equipped with XLR connectors on low-level inputs as well as the AC power inputs. You may also noticed that I removed one of the diagonal interior bracing due to its blocking the path of one of the ports.

Always happy to see a new video. Nice job. The amplifier is very interesting. I looked up the price and was shocked at how reasonable the price is. Also I kept thinking it had a fan. But the specs say no. I guess being a class D it is able to run at 4 ohms and not overheat? I am looking forward to the next video with the tests.

Hello Mark good to see you. Yes the plate amp is worth every money spent! Yes it has a fan located center, sorry I forgot to show where it is. It's small but spins when turned on.
Also the amp can handle 4 Ohms easy. In fact it can get to 82V AC (1681w RMS) without any clipping as long as the source is clean. Its crossover filter ranges from 20 to 20k Hz so its full range.
Really a great amp for the price! By the way there is a DSP version of it I saw in such online marketplaces like Amazon.

Just FYI that Polyfill is a moot addition. It doesn't do anything with the acoustics of the speakers box. If you increase box size a little bit a cheap foam pad 1/8" to 1/4" would be better. Like a "Yoga" pad for instance, generally same stuff of expensive sound proofing material if you check for the right pad. You can get a 6" by 2.5'pad for $20 or less, and honesty they make them out of the same stuff. A camping mattress would also work. Then cut it into correct size and use contact cement.

the diagonal brace seems a bit pointless as there isn't much forces in that direction. It really would have been better being a simple + in the centre.

Hello Ciby, this Pioneer model is only capable of handling 38hz and lowest is about 32Hz. Lower tuning subwoofers are a bit expensive, like those from Peerless, Dayton Audio, Polk, to name a few home subwoofer application.
@@chrclmnky Bro. Pioneer itself is saying 1212D4 has the frequency range of 20Hz - 1.6KHz. You are saying we will be getting minimal of 32Hz. Why?
@@Ciby_K_George yes can produce 20Hz but not efficiently. If you look at its specs sheet, its Fs (resonance frequency) is around 39Hz, which can be tuned +/- 5Hz off Fs, so it's only efficient near that numbers.

Yes absolutely! That sub has a factory resonance of 20.9Hz. So you can get it to bang LOW! Enjoy.

Can it play down to 15 hz well? How low can go for movies?? I want to build something similar for 2 subwoofers pioneer ts-w306C. If i stunning the ports to 38 can I play low lows 5/10 hz? I know the output can't be super loud at that freq, but it will sound good? Or maybe for movies I need to tune lower?? Between 28hz-32hz??
Can only go 25Hz the lowest that still sounds good. More expensive subwoofers that is for home theater applications like Dayton, Timpany, Peerless are good for lowest tunings

Hello !!! The specifications of the amplifier say that it is 1500 W at 4 ohms and the sub is 500 W??? Does the amplifier have the Watts it says?
Actual subwoofer is only about 300wrms, while amp is true rated 1500wrms at 220v 60Hz AC
But how do you avoid breaking the subwoofer if the amplifier has too much power?

Taka mała rada. Wnętrze powinno być w całości wyklejone kauczukiem 4mm. Do tego całość od środka powinna być oklejona filcem 12mm. Skrzynia powinna być skręcona wkrętami do drewna.
