It s a cheap, low power unit and I ve never seen a hole like that on a speaker. It s usually just a tear and for that, you can apply some nice strong paper/fabric glue and it is enough. I guess he just loves the process of restoring things. 🫤🤷🏻♂️

I have done the same repair using Kitchen Paper Towel material and using Elmers white glue. It worked out great and a simple job to do. I am glad your method worked for you but if I ever have to do it again I will use my own method. My speakers were Black Altec Lancing Speakers. They looked and sounded like new when I got them done and no smell of Gasoline that lingers.

@@inventorK20The only other tip I would like to share is that around the same time period when I repaired the 2 Altec Lancing Speakers that belong to my 1970’s Pioneer Stereo System that I purchased during the 1970’s when I was in my early 20’s I decided to Bluetooth my Pioneer Stereo also. To others with an old stereo receiver built back then before Bluetooth was ever thought of I feel it was one of the best things I could have done to my old stereo system as an upgrade. I recommend it to others. The best thing about it is it is basically Plug and Play. I don’t think I spent more the $30 for what I needed to complete the job. So today I can stream just about any music into it at the whim of a thought about a old song from the 50’s or 60’s that I haven’t heard in ages streamed through my iPhone or iPad or any cell phone you may own right out of your pocket to your old Stereo. Some streaming services are free out there and some you pay for. If you don’t mind a commercial coming on occasionally the free services work fine. Actually I felt from the beginning like a kid in a Candy Store from the 1950’s with so much Music to choose from to listen to when I want to. I am 73 years old and still love good music of many kinds.

There are many problems in doing that, you could damage the moving coil or the surround, but, above this, you will modify the Thiene-Small parameters of the speaker and, adding weight on one side, the moving coil is unbalanced. But, if you do it just to try, then put a little piece of silk over the hole, keep it in place wit a feb drops of cyanoachrilate glue, brush the glue all over the silk and wait until it is hardened. If necessary repeat to add weight.

Some shredded cotton fibers and pva glue would be so much easier without the odor of gas. The over spray adds a nice touch though. The thread and stitching is not needed. It would do just as well just gluing small strips or bits of paper in place rather than all of that. What you don't want to do is add weight to the cone.

Com gasolina eu não fiz mas com thinner para PU se fizer uma fina camada quando seca fica transparente e leve. Usei para impermeabilizar uma fonte de água feita de cimento.

Boa ideia, como quimico sugeria thiner 8100 ou acetona ao invés de gasolina, devido ao cheiro, secagem mais rápida e índice de solubilidade maior. Após o término eu sugiro selar o cone com primer de fita dupla face, porque contém resina epoxi dissolvida. Mas parabéns.👏🏻

Paper towel and PVC glue. Worked on my PA speaker when a broken drum stuck went into it.

There are many problems in doing that, you could damage the moving coil or the surround, but, above this, you will modify the Thiene-Small parameters of the speaker and, adding weight on one side, the moving coil is unbalanced. But, if you do it just to try, then put a little piece of silk over the hole, keep it in place wit a feb drops of cyanoachrilate glue, brush the glue all over the silk and wait until it is hardened. If necessary repeat to add weight.

Some shredded cotton fibers and pva glue would be so much easier without the odor of gas.
The over spray adds a nice touch though.
The thread and stitching is not needed. It would do just as well just gluing small strips or bits of paper in place rather than all of that. What you don't want to do is add weight to the cone.
