I’ve ridden 9 of these and Shambhala is by far my favorite. It somehow feels different from the others. Silver Star sits at the middle of the pack for me, while Intimidator sits dead last. I’ve heard Nitro has good days and bad and I must have just hit one of those bad days because I was not at all impressed. Diamondback is my 2nd favorite! Apollo’s Chariot and Behemoth round out my favorites.

  • @ThemeParkFamilyUK
    @ThemeParkFamilyUK 3 года назад +1

Wasn’t expecting the two Europeans to be in the two top spots! Silver Star is a good hyper and Shambhala is a great one.
Silver star is very much a floaty airtime where as Shambhala is more “I want to throw you out” airtime.
Europa park also gets something like 2100 riders per hour (B&M say 1800-1900) on Silver Star. Shambhala you would be lucky if they get 1000 per hour!
I’ve also ridden Mako but I was really disappointed in it. Maybe I just rode it on a bad day as everyone raves about it.

I loved the video and I cannot imagine disliking any of these coasters. I've only been on four of these but I agree with many of the other comments about the consistently smooth rides and sustained floater airtime. The "clam-shell" restraints are spectacular and I believe they are the 2nd best restraints on a steel coaster after the Intamin "Mega-Coaster" restraints on Millennium Force.
I do have a nitpick though about one of the stats. This is not the fault of airtime thrills or anything but it has been bothering me for a long time. I do not believe Diamondback actually goes 80mph. Intimidator at Carowinds has a drop only 4ft shorter and yet has a top speed of 75mph according to RCDB and Wikipedia. Intimidator also has the same 74 degree angle of descent and the same length and style of trains. I know coasters don't always go their advertised top speed but Diamondback's top speed seems very suspicious.

Some wonder why Silverstar is not as popular as other B&M hypers. The reason is very simple and is called Expedition Geforce. This Intamin Coaster is located only 150 km away from the Europa Park and clearly surpasses Silverstar at the first drop and at the airtime. Without this coaster, Silverstar would be unique in Germany and certainly more loved.

I’ve only ridden Goliath (SFOG) and candy. Goliath’s helix is unreal and it has a better layout, but I prefer candy mainly because it has better pacing.

I was surprised to see Silver Star up there too, and I guess I know a couple of reasons why enthusiasts look down upon this ride.
First of all, its theming. Sure, hyper coasters aren't really ideal for theming, but it just doesn't live up to Europa-Park standards. Being a parking lot coaster certainly does not help here. Secondly, it can have quite a rattle, especially when ascending out of the first valley. From what I have heard, this coaster was the first one where B&M tried a different company to actually make the tracks. My information (no citable source, just what I have heard from people around the park) is that the track was manufactured by a company in the Czech Republic, who were still trying to get things right. It is just a rattle,. nothing bad, but for the first B&M to be installed in Germany, I think some people were disappointed that it ran rougher than other B&Ms (which is still WAY more smooth thanwhat other manufacturers deliver). What hurt Silver Star's reputation most was probably what happened about one and a half hours north about a year earlier. Expedition GeForce. Silver Star is taller, but opening a B&M hyper with a lot of floater airtime a year after EGF, basically around the corner from the former, doesn't really hype'er. (pun intended)
Compare a coaster that has a good ride overall, but rather mild floater airtime, uphill trim brakes and a not really inspiring layout to the orange insanity that is EGF. Great setting with all the trees around and a layout that tries to get you out of your seat from the first drop to the final brake run. Many enthusiasts here in Germany thought that Europa-Park would actually top what Holiday-Park did a year before, and even though they did by the numbers, and got a really solid ride, it couldn't live up to the expectations. Had the same ride opened in northern Germany instead, things would probably look different.
I have ridden both countless times and enjoy riding either of them when I am around, but I appreciate how different these two rides actually are and enjoy having both of them.

@@NortheasternP.T.S. I hope that you'll be able to ride some day. I haven't been there in a couple of years (I don't like how Holiday Park changed when going from family owned to chain park) and I've heard that she has developed a bit of a rattle as well, But in any case this ride deserves a spot on the bucket list. While Silver Star isn't too different from the B&M Hypers you'll find in other parts of the world, EGF is unique. (And in case you wonder why the first drop is shaped the way it is, let me quote Werner Stengel: "There was nothing else we could have done. That's where the park's property ends, and we somehow had to find a way down while staying on the property. (shrug)" 😀)

Seeing this again, I'm reminded that it's possible if not more likely that Candymonium's drop is under 200'; making that five B&M hyper coasters with drops under 200' (when including the two in Asia and the two "Goliath"s). Mako is the B&M hyper with the shortest drop that is officially 200' or more.
I'm also impressed with hearing Diamondback has the most track length of any B&M Hyper (excluding the Gigas) of prime ride time; 4,456' out of 5.282' (the latter stat being a mere 2' over one mile; making it the shortest coaster to beat one mile of total track length.)
Also: Behemoth has a drop of 226' which is 11' more than the drop on Diamondback.
Lastly: You oughta look at the duration of prime ride stats re Nitro; it's off by about 10 seconds; you said it was 65 seconds when it's actually 75 seconds, making it the B&M hyper coaster with the most prime ride time, beating out Intimidator by two seconds.

I am very surprised by silver star on this list. It is the only one I have ridden, and I wasn't overly impressed. In fact, I didn't really even get good floater when I rode it in the second to last row. I guess B&M screwed up the profiling on those hills, so that even if you are going fast there is no airtime. The first drop and the section after the MCBR are probably the best parts, which tells a lot.
