  • One of the least talked about B&M hypers is Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure. I've always been a big fan of this ride, but I never thought it was anything extrodinary. That was, until last summer. Now I have concluded that Nitro looks to be the best B&M hyper coaster in the U.S and in this video I try to explain to you why.

      @@MrPatrickbuit For me at least, even with a lap bar, a rattle kind of throws off the ride a little. I rode Millennium Force on a hot summer day and it had a noticeable rattle. It didn't ruin the ride or anything, but the day after when I rode Millennium Force after a rainstorm, it was wayyyy better. The rain might have lubed the track or something, but it was so much more enjoyable than the day before, even though it wasn't running as fast.

    Nitro is my all time favorite roller coaster that I've ever ridden, and that includes El Toro. Nitro is the roller coaster that made me an enthusiast in the first place. There are a few things that people overlook on this ride.
    1: It is the third longest B&M coaster in the world, with only Leviathan and of course Fury 325 having more track.
    2: Unlike what this video says, Nitro DOES have trims, however there aren't a lot and they actually come in handy otherwise it's helix would be ridiculous, which leads to...
    3: It has some actually intense moments in the second half instead of dying down like a lot of longer coasters tend to do, with some awesome bunny hills after the MCBR to end the ride and one of the single most intense elements on any B&M hyper with its upwards 270 degree helix leading into the MCBR. On a warm summer afternoon when the ride is hauling, the helix can cause greyouts, a level of intensity unheard of on B&M's besides their inverts, standups, and flyers.
    4: It's more or less themed to itself. The perfect example of a great ride being more important than great theming (looking at you Disney), it used to have signs in it's queue with stats and fun facts about the ride, and also used to have signs on the lift hill saying when riders have passed the heights of various world landmarks. While these minimal theming elements are long gone (Six Flags can't be bothered to maintain even the simplest of theming), the coaster is great enough to stand on its ride experience alone, similar to Millennium Force at Cedar Point, another great example of a ride with bare bones theming but an incredible ride experience.
    5: It offers some of the best night rides in the country. Nitro's setting in the forest and it's lack of lights beyond the station, lift hill, and brake runs combine to give a near pitch black ride experience during late night operations. When I said before that Nitro is the ride that made me an enthusiast, it was my first night ride specifically that did it for me.
    6: It's the poster child for B&M's high capacity coasters. Even on a busy day where the line reaches to the entry plaza, the wait is rarely more than a half hour. With three 36 passenger trains and an experienced and devoted ride op crew who are able to dispatch a train when the previous one crests the second hill, Nitro manages to have the highest total riders in the entire chain every season, even beating the California coasters that run year round. The ride crew works extremely hard to make this happen, as it's a point of pride for them, and an equally hard working maintenance team ensures that Nitro runs reliably all year. Six Flags Great Adventure is my home park, and with all of the times I've been there, I have never seen Nitro closed for the day besides for weather.
    Nitro is the type of coaster that is often overlooked, but it's also the type of coaster that every major theme park should dream of having: a high capacity, low downtime people pleaser that offers a long, fun, and adventurous ride experience. While rides like Steel Vengeance, Fury 325, and even El Toro in the same park are enthusiasts' dreams, Nitro is fun for both enthusiasts and the GP alike, more or less the perfect roller coaster.

    Nitro is my favorite coaster at Great Adventure. It really is a great ride. But it NEEDS a new name, theme, and color scheme. Something I've noticed in USA parks is the lack of a spooky themed area. With the addition of Jersey Devil, I think Six Flags should re theme "Adventure Seaport" to a spooky themed area. Call it "Haunted Hollow" or something like that. It'll feature Skull Mountain, Jersey Devil, Congo Rapids (with a new haunted woods theme), and Nitro now renamed and rethemed to "Hecate" who was the goddess of witchcraft in Greek mythology. You can give the queue and station an overgrown forest like quality with vines and herbs and other witchy set pieces and props. There can also be posters telling the story of who Hecate is. Then paint the track green and black, maybe black track with green supports so its a bit different from Green Lantern. I've been dying for a year round spooky themed area at the park.

    • @evan9902
      @evan9902 3 года назад +1

      I don’t think Nitro is the best coaster at the park but I still think it’s great. And that theme sounds amazing, I really hope they do that now but it’s Six Flags so I doubt it. I mean they put Bizarro in a buccaneer section or something like that.

    • @jakeruhl2499
      @jakeruhl2499 3 года назад

      @@evan9902 this is very true haha. Although the original theme for Bizarro was Medusa and even though she is also from Greek mythology, they tied it into the western themed area by saying that she haunted an old abandoned mine which kind of tied eveything together. An entire spooky area might be a stretch for Six Flags, but Hecate is a badass name for a coaster and the theme themeing could be minimal but effective. It'd mostly be a new paint job, some signs telling Hecate's story in the queue, cover eveything in vines and plants to give it a witchy vibe, and thats pretty much it. Also, return Bizarro to it's original theme as Medusa (New England's Bizarro returned back to Superman) and you'll have two characters from Greek mythology dominating each end of the park!

    Nitro is at my home park and I’ve ridden this and El Toro more than any other coaster. Nitro is a great ride but I’ve ridden Candymonium and Mako and I prefer both of those. Whilst Nitro may have more airtime I feel like the others have stronger airtime and I would personally take the quality over quantity. The airtime is good but not on the level of the other 2. Also the theme and color do not help Nitro at all since it sucks. Also I found the end of Mako to actually be pretty fun and the turn over the water was great. I was sitting on the edge and since it was slow it gave some good hang time making you feel like you were gonna fall out. Nitro does have the most intense element but I’m an airtime guy and I might slightly prefer the speed hill on both Candymonium and Mako but I still love the helix on Nitro and to me that’s the highlight of the ride along with the drop. Nitro is also a back row ride to me as I overall found stronger airtime there. So that’s my opinion on Nitro. It’s a great ride but I think I just prefer newer B&M hypers and Mako, Candymonium, and Nitro are the only B&M hypers I’ve ridden.

    Always been a big Nitro fan, although never ridden it. Diamondback has such an interesting and fun layout but the finale is kind of a let down. I think it's another victim of trimmed hills unfortunately. Raging Bull could really benefit from being trimless as well. Nice vid once again! I appreciate when someone has an unpopular opinion but actually has good reasons why instead of just biased emotion.
    Edit: Six Flags should really re-paint their coasters. I think that's why it looks so bad. The color scheme pops out when it's not so faded. Anyways, I agree with Nitro at #1. Though I'd still put Diamondback over Mako and Candymonium since it has 2 massive camelbacks instead of the banked left turn. Goliath looks good enough to be top 3 though I haven't ridden it.

It as well as Kingda Ka and El Toro was what got me into roller coasters in the first place. As much as I love Fury 325 and Intimidator at my home park, I would honestly choose this ride over either of those because even though I don’t work as a ride operator anymore, this coaster felt like my 2nd home. Now it’s not my favorite as it’s behind Diamondback, Goliath, and NOTHING can beat Shambhala but it’s my 4th favorite and I’ve ridden all but one B&M Hypercoaster in my time so that’s a really good rating.

Also Goliath drop is only less than 200 because it’s on a mountain in the middle of the park so that have to shorten it. But it’s still by far the best drop. It’s also weird to see a B&M Hypercoaster run with shorter trains.

    Buuuut...
    I prefer Diamondback. I haven't been on Mako or Goliath (SFOG).
    I'm a sustained airtime junkie and Diamondback's first three drops have a rare combination of strength and duration. It's STRONG floater and it just laaaaaaaaaaaaaaasts. It's euphoric.
    I also maintain that if it ever ran trimless (and we don't talk about it) Raging Bull would jump all the way to near-elite territory. It's REALLY neutered by the trim on the camelback and (to a lesser extent) the mid-course. The first drop (back row) is the most delightful combination of ejector (to start) and sustained floater (all the way down) and it still has a couple other strong airtime moments in spite of the brakes. The twister part is would also rival Nitro's helix for intensity if it wasn't so trimmed. But alas, it's not.
