  • Former WWE head writer Vince Russo and Dr. Chris Featherstone chat about the iconic WrestleMania streak that The Undertaker has been synonymous with. Dr. Featherstone admits on 'Writing with Russo' that he wasn't a fan of Brock Lesnar ending the streak in 2014.
Vince Russo picks Bray Wyatt as The Undertaker's heir apparent. In Russo's opinion, WWE really got it wrong with Bray Wyatt creatively.

I strongly agree with Russo, it would have been epic to see Bray Wyatt to end the streak

I think we ALL wanted him to end The Streak. Bray was PERFECT for it...

I been saying that since they end THE STREAK. They should have continue at 30, Set WrestleMania 31 at night. Then create the character The New Face of Fear into The Fiend all the way to WrestleMania 32 in Dallas and made it a Streak vs. Career match which would be a perfect send off to me. But that's just my opinion.

I agree that it should've been Bray Wyatt/The Fiend to end the streak, which would've catapulted him as a monster heel. For instance: Back in 1996 when Mick Foley debuted as Mankind, he got a major win against Taker @ that year's KOTR ppv (yes, the same one where Austin delivered his iconic "Austin 3:16" speech...) And that win over Taker catapulted Mankind as an unstoppable monster heel. The same could've/should've happened with Bray Wyatt/The Fiend, but they dropped the ball on that one ... as they always do! 😒

Kane should have been the one to end the streak. Kane should have had his original outfit and mask. The ending of the streak should also have been Undertakers last match.

no.... The Streak should've never ended but since it did it should've been someone that needed the rub. Brock did not, Roman at the point it ended would've benefited but he wasn't in that situation at the time. Kane certainly didn't need it, he's a legend either way

I just Wish The Fiend would have put The Deadman at peace for the final time but WWE screwed it up such a poor booking for Wyatt he should have been untouchable...!!

Undertaker should have fought and beat Cena at WM30 while Lesnar fought someone like Sheamus. The streak remains alive and they could have saved The Wyatt Family vs. The Shield for WM30. Then Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker the following year. Just my thoughts.

How About Lesnar Beats Batista in a dream match(Batista wanted to return as a heel back in 2014 by the way so it makes sense), while taker beats cena at 30, he beats Y2J at 31 and maybe we have the lesnar\taker hiac 2015 match at wm32 or cena v taker 2 instead, and then he loses it to wyatt at wm33 which the wm that he originally wanted to retire at.

@@user-dl5ln3wd6f Even though I'd have done Taker vs. Sting for WM 31, I do LOVE the idea of the HIAC bout between Taker & Brock being held off until WM 32. Then come the next year, The Undertaker wins the 2017 Royal Rumble Match & main events WM 33 against Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship. At WM 33, Wyatt ends The Streak at 24-1 & cements himself as a legendary name in WWE. Then, Undertaker takes his gear off & leaves it in the ring before kissing Michelle McCool & raising his fist on the giant ramp before WM goes off the air.

Now sense Wyatt died, Roman would make more sense but the match should be shorter for like 15 minutes or as long as taker vs lesnar at ss2015 at best, because a long match with taker at this age would overexpose him.

Brock Lesnar pre-UFC was the time for Lesnar to break the streak, not post-UFC. Pre-UFC, Brock Lesnar defeated The Big Evil Undertaker in a Hell In A Cell match and that should have been Brock Lesnar’s biggest career win over The Undertaker. Giving Lesnar the Streak too was overkill, lazy, nonsensical, and regrettable.

I don't have a huge problem with Brock beating Undertaker but I agree with Dr. Chris that they should have let the Undertaker be undefeated. I think after Wrestelmania 26 where a lot of people thought Shawn was going to beat him but didn't, they should have kept him undefeated. Was definitely stupid to have Roman beat him. I think the main reason is that the Undertaker looked like he was ready to retire but then maybe changed his mind and worked a few more years and he's a very loyal guy to Vince so it was at the point where they say hey, you've got to start getting these younger/newer people over, so he did.

Let me completely disagree that it did nothing for Brock. Even though I hated it at the time and people were starting to get fed up by WWE booking, I slowly warmed up to it and to me they made a lot out of it mainly cause of Heyman. And then it lead directly into the fantastic match in the same year at Summerslam where Brock slaughtered John Cena. That year 2014 really established Brock as the ultimate Alpha. I would have loved Bray beating the streak as well, a sort of passing of the torch for another dark character. And it would have done marvels for him as well. But even then he had been already dimished greatly by their horrible handling of him. When he went against Taker it felt like "this will help him" more than a clash of titans.

As a Brock Lesnar fan, I didn't mind it. Made him an unbeatable heal for years. Which lead to a great fued with Roman Reigns. However, I agree that Bray Wyatt needed it more. They kept having Bray lose big matches. When the Wyatt family fought the Undertaker and Kane and lost, killed the Wyatt family!

also, at wrestlemania 31 they should have had undertaker vs sting--they were on the same card but did not face eachother. The streak should have never ended but if it had to it should be Bray----hello from norway

This is a great take and I agree. I don’t know much about Vince Russo. But he was spot-on when he said that Becky Lynch’s mic skills was poor or at least far behind the level of push & status that she was receiving. Russo was spot-on when he said it was pretty idiotic to have Bianca Belair wrestling with that one long braid that can easily end her career. That long-braid gimmick with the twirling and whipping and using it in submission holds and all of the gimmicky moments in the ring is not worth that one mishap. And Russo is spot-on here too. Both Lesnar and Reigns were poor choices. There was no significant change in Lesnar or Reigns after they each beat Taker at Mania. What changes to the look and/or gimmick could we have seen with Bray Wyatt/The Fiend after breaking The Streak? Why not have The Fiend end The Streak at Mania on Sunday and then resurrect the Ministry of Darkness on Monday. And then start a program with the leader of the new Ministry (The Fiend) and a member of the old Ministry (Edge or Christian) or Christian at SummerSlam before wrestling Edge at the following Wrestlemania.

I hate to admit this but I agree with Russo on this one! Bray should have gotten the streak the "push" that would have given him would have put Bray in a whole other level! WTF Did Crock of shit Losner need the streak for? he was/is a star on the decline who is pushing way past when he should have called it a career! Who knows if Bray had ended the streak we wouldn't be putting up with the shitty Roman Reigns title run!

no.... The Streak should've never ended but since it did it should've been someone that needed the rub. I had mixed feelings when Taker's streak was ended by Lesnar, but now I think it was a brilliant move. Frankly WM 30 needed a jaw dropping moment and that was it, if Taker had won it would have been just another match, and it wasn't even a good match. Lesnar also looked so much better than Taker at the time, so now I'm 100% for Taker's streak ending at that time. I also think Taker should have retired after losing to Roman in 2017, it would have been the perfect send off, by coming back I think it made Taker less special imo.

    • @user-dl5ln3wd6f
