Watching these series of interviews with Bob Costas jarred my memory. I really loved his off screen role as a radio baseball play by play broadcaster in the 1984 movie “The Natural”. Even though the film was set in the 1930’s Bob contributed so much to a pivotal point in the movie. The lead character Roy Hobbs of the New York Knights (played by Robert Redford) was in a slump at the plate. As Hobbs came up to bat against the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field you can hear Bob Costas setting the scene. The combination of seeing Hobbs break his slump by slamming a home run off a stadium clock (and breaking it!) along with Bob’s energy and enthusiasm in describing the mammoth clout was huge. I thought this was Bob's weakest moment interviewing someone. Come on now, attacking pro wrestling which has always been fake it a pretty easy target to go after.
Instead of seeing the premise in a positive way as Vince saying he'd beat him up if he was bigger, as a benevolent admission by Vince that he would never hurt Bob, instead of seeing that premise positively, Bob sees it as what he claimed (of course it's silly, because it wasn't the premise) and it's a further degradation of Vince's character. It wasn't just so Vince could look big and strong and rationalize hurting anyone, as if he was never challenged before and was that immature, that's a blatant invalidating blanket statement, if that was true he couldn't run his business, it was him saying he'd never hurt Bob
The HBO rep proved how biased the media is. He admitted Costas hated the WWE for years. How do you think the interview is going to go? The media believes it has super-rights to treat people like garbage and no one can call them on it.
he was definitely not in character. Vince was getting legit pissed to be fair, the interview was kind of unprofessional. Costas kept interrupting Vince. I'm honestly surprised Vince kept his cool throughout 60% of the interview because anyone else getting interrupted as much as he did would have flipped out

Surprisingly I have to side with Vince McMahon on this one because many Sports reporters have it an unnecessary chip on their shoulder about pro wrestling even though we have known it is scripted for years, the local Sports Anchor, a real gem Named Dave Staley was visibly irritated one-a-day because all sports were canceled because of the pandemic and the only thing he had to mention on his segment was WrestleMania, that was the best sports segment Dave Staley ever gave
xfl was not crap. i attended a game at the LA Coliseum. It was great. The play was awesome and the only reason it failed is good old bobby "do no wrong" costas and every other person / company / advertiser making money on the nfl disparaged the xfl at every moment they could. here is bobby some twenty five years later bad mouthing xfl still.
And yet the NFL took from the XFL after it first folded. XFL was football, if there was "schlock" then what do you call that military-industrial complex content that snuck its way into the NFL in the 2000s?
It doesn't matter what Bob thinks as far as the attitude era being crude or not appropriate the bottom line is throughout that period the WWE was the number 1 rated television show on cable TV. And when you have that moniker on your side you can do about anything Because 100s of millions of people disagree with you Bob and they think that it's a great program.
I have watched WWE and for the life of me I just don't get it, not even a little. Its complete nonsense but you are right for some reason many people love it. Vince has made hundreds of millions of dollars off whatever the WWE is. I am not even sure what it is. Play wrestling, I guess.
The funny thing is how steroids was always the main media poke at Vince and then Bob's beloved sport became an HGH factory. I love all sports, but Bob should've crapped all over MLB when Mark, Sammy, and Barry all turned into Incredible Hulks.
I disagree with Bob on getting his ass kicked as not making any sense. In the grand scheme of things that would be the only thing that matters. Costas had an agenda in the McMahon interview and his interview was as fixed as any of the WWE matches
Exactly Bobs behavior was out of line.
It amazes me so many people falls for this BS thinking it's a real interview and not scripted
I thought this was Bob's weakest moment interviewing someone. Come on now, attacking pro wrestling which has always been fake it a pretty easy target to go after.
But it's passing itself off as a sport. When it's actually a soap opera.
@@joeybaseball7352 Bobby the Brain Heenan said some once like, "People call wrestling fake, well we never said it was real."
@@joeybaseball7352 they don’t say it’s a sport lmao McMahon admitted back in the 1980’s to avoid paying the athletic commissions.
@@UFCWWE69 that's exactly why Kevin Nash left for WCW he talked about it in the interview
Vince and Trump are the kinds of leaders we need. The ones who fall apart at the first sign of criticism.
The HBO rep proved how biased the media is. He admitted Costas hated the WWE for years. How do you think the interview is going to go? The media believes it has super-rights to treat people like garbage and no one can call them on it.
You’rrrrrrrrre Fiiiiiiiiireddddd.
Vince completely blew that interview. He clearly has a media coach these days.
Vince fucking rules
McMahon was in character. Poor Bob thinks he got him.
he was definitely not in character. Vince was getting legit pissed
to be fair, the interview was kind of unprofessional. Costas kept interrupting Vince. I'm honestly surprised Vince kept his cool throughout 60% of the interview because anyone else getting interrupted as much as he did would have flipped out
Yeah Vince was definitely mad lol, bob also mentioned Owens death and u can tell Vince was straight livid
Vince Mcmahon is NOT 6'5". Why do people always exaggerate stories for effect? He's 6'1
I think the Costas-McMahon tension dates back to the Late Night With David Letterman Third Anniversary Special. Go to 4:18 of this video and you’ll understand: ruclips.net/video/r1t7FWou_Dw/видео.html
Is the answer the same as every other sports personality that gets sick of little Costa’s mouth?
Will Smith would have slapped Bob. 😂😂😂😂
Vince seemed like he was experiencing a roid rage moment during the interview
That I'd most likely what it was
Surprisingly I have to side with Vince McMahon on this one because many Sports reporters have it an unnecessary chip on their shoulder about pro wrestling even though we have known it is scripted for years, the local Sports Anchor, a real gem Named Dave Staley was visibly irritated one-a-day because all sports were canceled because of the pandemic and the only thing he had to mention on his segment was WrestleMania, that was the best sports segment Dave Staley ever gave
Bob Costas is a national treasure!
Yuck
It’s weird to hear Bob use profanity
Bob Costas, Jim Rome, Mike Lupica - three little men, who are height challenged but don't think they are small.
That doofus called Vince 6”5 270. Vince is 6”1 and about 220 at his biggest. Douche chills
C'mon let's be real now, Vince is no wrestler by any means but he would have squashed Costas in a hart beat.
Who was interviewing McMahon when Vince slapped the papers out of his hand?
Are we gonna pretend Bob Costas is a tough guy? He KNEW he was safe to insult McMahon ad nauseam on TV.
xfl was not crap. i attended a game at the LA Coliseum. It was great. The play was awesome and the only reason it failed is good old bobby "do no wrong" costas and every other person / company / advertiser making money on the nfl disparaged the xfl at every moment they could. here is bobby some twenty five years later bad mouthing xfl still.
Bob a great report and Viane
HHh line is great
And yet the NFL took from the XFL after it first folded.
Play wrestling, I guess.
vince loves the challenge
The funny thing is how steroids was always the main media poke at Vince and then Bob's beloved sport became an HGH factory. I love all sports, but Bob should've crapped all over MLB when Mark, Sammy, and Barry all turned into Incredible Hulks.
Ole pink eye is a real tough guy
2020s XFL caught in a bit.. Til you know what shut it down. They also created the eagle cam that the nfl uses
Donald Trump learned his PR from Vince McMahon
I disagree with Bob on getting his ass kicked as not making any sense. In the grand scheme of things that would be the only thing that matters. If its just the two of them then their opinions and/or intelligence makes no difference. If the two of them were alone then what Bob is saying does not come into play. As juvenile as that sounds it is the truth. Little man syndrome is real.
Vince loves stuff like that. He respects Bob because Bob stuck up for himself even though Vince is over 6 foot and 240 jacked and roided up and would break him in half. There's stories about Vince testing his wrestlers in a similar fashion, the ones who stand up for themselves get pushed and the ones who back down and don't become jobbers. Except Nailz, he legit scared tf outa Vince lol
Nailz was bigger than Bob Costas... Why didn't Vince kick the crap out of him?
@@Tourist-Q Because he couldn't lol. Same reason he didn't do much when Brett punched him in the mouth after the screw job.
@@jimlamenia7812 those people in wrestling are good at having a big mouth. But the reality is that Joey Styles nailed JBL with a hard punch.
@@Tourist-Q Most wrestlers would beat the ever loving s*** out of the average person on the street. There's a whole bunch of stories about clowns who thought otherwise and ended up with a dude like Haku knocking their teeth out and biting off their noses.
@@jimlamenia7812 that's pretty vague... What is an average person? And what makes wrestlers above average? After all an average person could beat up an average person as well.
But it is a fact that Joey Styles nailed JBL.
And it is a fact that most of them looked god-awful at fighting during the Brawl for All.
Take away the steroids out of them, and they're as average as someone can be.
Vince is 6-5, 275 😯Ha, ok, producers don’t exaggerate or anything
That dude must be using WWE’s metrics for exaggerated height and weight. Vince is a big guy, but he wasn’t 6’5 270 pounds. He just looks like that because Costas is so small
Vince is the bully that loves being the bully. Someone now cowering to him is a foreign concept to him.
Bob was lucky that day.
Dude did cut vince off alot. That gets to be really annoying really fast when you are trying to talk with someone lol. Not saying it was right to get all angry. But i can understand getting majorly annoyed when it keeps happening
Bob Costas is and was always a class act.
I remember that interview ( Bobby Knight interview not so much ).
