Oh, yes, ALWAYS do a test patch to make sure youo've got the correct needle and the right tension for that thread and that fabric...
My 80s Singer likes to pop the thread off the tensioner.... halfway through a seam. Fortunately, I now recognize the sound when it does this and I can stop and rethread it before I have a whole lot of terrycloth to pull out of the underside...
On other machines I've used, when I've had some disaster or other cause the fabric or thread to be stuck under the plate, slowly winding the wheel can release it, certain parts of the revolution are harder to unsnag than others...
Let's not forget that cleaning and lubricating your machine regularly can also correct and prevent issues, and anything really stubborn might need a trip to a repair shop. Also, read the manual at least once, cover to cover. And if you didn't get the manual with the machine, it's online, somewhere, and probably free. I've found the manual for the 80s Singer, the 70s Kenmore, the treadle machine I have hiding in the basement, and my most recently acquired 1914 hand crank machine. The manual that took the most time to find wasn't becase the manual was hard to find, it's because it took a whole evening to figure out what exactly it was (it'sonly labelled "Victoria" and I think every company that made sewing machines around then made one with that name!!)
My 70s Kenmore machine doesn't have instructions for lubrication becuase they assumed their factory lube would last the whole life of the machine, but apparently it can harden, and I'm guessing that's what is causing most of the problems with this machine since it wasn't used regularly, I think it was used for one project since its original purchase and I only got it last year. It has a lot of different stitches and sometimes will switch stitches mid-seam without me touching the dial, and it's got some other weirdnesses, like the stitch size changing if I use the backstitch lever because they're close together and I think now stuck together with hardened lubricant... it's also got a bunch of tension issues (mine has 0 as its loosest tension and 8 as its tightest), it still sometimes pulls at its loosest setting. It's getting a trip to the shop as soon as I can afford it, all my favourite machines have been Kenmores and I hope once it's "gone to the spa", I will prefer using it to hand sewing, which I am currently doing because I find it more relaxing than machine sewing.
And I would love to learn more about sewing machine feet. My 1914 machine came with a whole bunch of neat foot attachments that I haven't tried out yet.hte

Would like a video on the different types of foot. My machine has a lot of different foot options and I have no clue how to use the majority.

Thread the machine with the presser foot in the up position to properly pass the thread into the tension mechanism.

Wow, already the first tip is a load of carp. It's the opposite - 0 tension is zero tension. The higher the number, the higher the tension. To be honest, I don't want to watch further as I am afraid to see what other nonsense you're spreading.
