  • Team owner David Tepper has mentioned many times that he wants a new stadium for the Carolina Panthers. WCNC Charlotte has learned that Tepper's doing more than talking, he's actively meeting with stadium architects about what can be done. HKS Architects, the same firm behind the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings stadiums, has met with Tepper in the last year. One rendering shows Bank of America Stadium with a glass roof, but there's also the possibility of an entirely new stadium in uptown Charlotte. #Panthers #KeepPounding

I was just there in November for Panthers/Titans game and I thought the stadium still has a lot of life left.

They just updated it. Put a roof and a few more remodeling and it would be perfect.

Knowing the Charlotte city council they will approve it and ask the people of Charlotte to pay 45%-50% of Tepper new playground he want to built to show off to the other owners. What do we get in return? We will have to pay more for admission, everything in the stadium will be overprice and on top of that Tepper is laughing his ass off all the way to the bank.

Agreed. Unless Charlotte gets an ownership stake, no public funds should go to pay for a billionaire's toys. Study after study shows that public money for stadiums is a bad investment.

Some kind of ETFE translucent roof system along with some other upgrades to bring it to near the top of the class in the league would make a lot of sense. They are also having to modify the stadium to accommodate soccer. Whatever they do it needs to be "affordable" and something architecturally interesting that will not look badly out of date in 20 years. One stadium that is still considered good in the league after all of these years is Arrowhead stadium and with various upgrades and renovations combined with passionate fans makes it one of the top 15 stadiums in the league and it was built in the early 70's!!! It was designed smartly to begin with and then the renovations through the years kept it relevant. I don't see why the same can't be done with BOA stadium. IF KC can keep their stadium relevant why can't Charlotte. For that matter Soldier Field in Chicago was renovated and expanded extensively several years back in a way that kept it completely relevant today. I am not quite as sure about what they did with the canopy over Hard Rock stadium in Miami but there still has to be a way to keep BOA great and relevant without completely rebuilding the place. It seems Tepper wants an entirely new stadium. Nice but if the design is handled correctly they can achieve something amazing in addition to what they already have.

Now. If they did move to the Pipe and Foundry site maybe they could theme the stadium with part of the old factory buildings, structures, etc. It has been done before. Camden Yards in Baltmore. Also there is part of an old building in the Padres stadium in San Diego.

Great example of how The Press misleads. "Public Funding" doesn't mean higher property taxes or even sales taxes from people who live in the area. Stadiums are typically subsidized by tourism and rental taxes meaning it's people out of town helping to fund it.

Green Bay is a dying enterprise.... Players don't want to go there...old Favre fans are dying off...
Give it a decade of losing before talks about a move .... Orlando...
      Austin...
      Louisville...
      St. Louis...
      San Diego ...
      Chicago ...
      Houston ...
      Vancouver
That said.... GB is the only publicly-owned enterprise in the NFL...not going anywhere when your team is "run by comittee"... It'll take awhile... But it's gonna happen
At least Buffalo could move across the lake to Toronto....when they were sucking (just a few years back), that was the common thought

If people followed the NFL he not the first and will not be the last owner to ask. I mean 1995 to 2020 Charlotte want to act like a big city. But have small business thoughts and moves. Catch up it can only help more jobs and entertainment things can happen.

If the city goes for the public funding it should only be for the dome. Anything else should be contingent on revenue generated as an incentive for Tepper.

@@bowlnow824 they could always move to the Triangle. The triangle loves football. Combine the average attendance of their college football teams and its 130,000 people per game even though all the teams suck. Also much more willing to build a stadium. The richest people in NC live in Raleigh including the 2 CEOs of SAS who have a combined $15 billion. Kane realty could help develop the site. NC State and maybe the NCFC and NC Courage (if their stadium doesn’t get built) could help pitch in and share the stadium. The Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill combined metros are estimated to pass the Charlotte metro by 2025 too and is faster growing. Also more centralized and closer to the larger cities like Greensboro, Wilmington, Norfolk, Etc. It’s also still in-state so it’s a familiar market.
