  • On Labor Day weekend I was able to make the trek up to the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant Iowa home to the Midwest Central Railroad, and was able to get great footage of the two narrow gauge locomotives, 2-6-0 #6 and shay #9.
    Enjoy!

All steam shows are good but this one is the Granddaddy of them all 👍- was out to the show 83 thru 89 and we still talk about it regularly

How does a shay work? I see vertical and sideways movement but no forward movement. I also don’t see wheels on the drivers side

The engine turns a drive shaft that runs the length of the locomotive. There are bevelled gears on both the wheels on the right side of the locomotive and on the drive shaft.
