- In 2022 I made my annual trip to the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion for another year of classic trains and trolleys in action! Located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Old Threshers has been one of the most popular events in the Midwest for decades. It's also the home of two railroads: the Midwest Central Railroad, and Midwest Electric Railway. Both transport thousands of visitors back in time to the olden days of railroading, as they travel around the grounds to many different attractions. On the Midwest Central, we see the railroad's narrow gauge locomotives pulling trains around the main Old Threshers grounds, featuring 2-6-0 steam locomotive 6, and diesel-hydraulic switchers 14 and D-9. On Midwest Electric, four cars in their collection take passengers through the Old Threshers campgrounds and to the Log Village. Cars in operation include interurban 320, open-air car 1718, Italian streetcar 1945, and recently upgraded work car 1100.
This video summarizes the action seen throughout the first 4 days of the 2022 Reunion, as the trains and trolleys travel around the grounds, with rides on each line as well. Breaks in between feature other various Old Threshers attractions, including Printer's Hall, gas engines, the steam carousel, and more. A segment of the video also features Midwest Central's Shay locomotive 9 - although not operating at the 2022 Reunion, the locomotive is discussed and several run-bys are presented off the cutting room floor from last year's Old Threshers presentation (2021).

I remember when I was a kid I used to hate the high pitched whistle on the #6 but I think I've grown to actually love the sound of it. It's almost a haunting sound you don't get with the mid to low pitched whistles even with how obcenely loud it is.

Do you know why engine 6's whistle has changed over the years?
6 still has its original high-pitched whistle that is used on occasion (heard a couple times in the video), as far as I know it's never taken off, but it seems like other whistles are put on the engines sometimes during the Reunion. Engines 12, 9, and 16 all have had multiple whistles on them at different times.
Don’t quote me on this but I think the whistle worn for several years is just worn out and needs some work done.
It had a 5 step locomotive whistle on it for years and then was changed for the 2021 reunion

omg , a tram(trolleycar.) id love to goto some of these but i dont travel anymore but due to the magic of youtube i can . ive even seen the shows like this in the uk and elsewhere .my late dad drove a printing press and loved it. friend of mine gave me a computer from his businness that ran a printing press and along came wordstar and obsoleted everything overnite . his press was worth$1000.0 us at the time . neat coverege .
