The story is obvious: Caroline meets you in a coffee shop, you drop acid together in a box, then she turns into a manticore and says something that gives you a panic attack and chases you through a construction site trying to explain herself, and to make it up to you she invites you along on her latest museum heist. Whatever was in the jug you stole caused her to have a very severe allergic reaction, so you take her back to your place. Then you turn into a goat and she throws you into the sea. Like, very obvious three act structure here folks, perfectly straightforward storytelling. Really don't see what the problem is.

I'm an older person who has 40+ years of musical exploration. When I was 12 I heard Kate Bush and she blew my mind with her creativity and unique vision. Since then, only a handful of female artists have blown me away like that, like Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, St Vincent, Florence Welch. Caroline Polachek definitely up there with those greats. Happy to be alive at a time when artists like this are making music. This is an absolute ****ng banger.

Every one of us is an island and we can't always articulate what goes on in our heads. Popper said there are three worlds; this is Caroline making a contribution to the Third, it's coming straight from her Second. But it might just be *about* her inner world, so the translation into a format which can exist in the Third is going to leave a lot of room for interpretation.

So it's then a possible metaphor about trapping and controlling people in relationships and then maybe letting go of that. In the end they both let Odysseus go.

I'd never heard her before, but this is wonderful. I enjoy how it just doesn't beat you over the head with trying to be Eighties-ish and as such it actually ends up feeling more realistically like something from period. There's something a bit late-80s Kate Bush about it.
