I made this deodorant last week and it is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing, as I've been looking for a good natural deodorant for a long time. I make all of my own bar soap, lotions, make-up remover, etc. This rounds out my recipe binder! I'd love to send you some of my bar soap made from organic coconut and olive oil as a thank you for your great tips and videos.
Could you share your other recipes, gourmetgirl. I am starting to round the corner of homemade items. I am definitely going to try this deodorant recipe. my email is kosmo10s@kosmo10s.com. Thank you.
This might be TMI!!! I am getting ready to make my second batch. It is truly amazing. I wanted to let you know I used this under breasts and on a raw tummy fold on a patient ( with family permission)that stays moist and red and raw....and it worked wonders. Clear up the raw area quickly like 3 days and helped with the under breast sweat. Sorry if TMI.
I made this deodorant about 2/3 years ago and I'm SO excited for a second batch!! I also struggled with using commercial deodorants as they always left me smelling worse than before I applied. Since using this homemade recipe I've experienced my body odor is less offensive, even when I forget to apply! It feels as though commercial brands use additives that make odors worse so that you need to come back to their product and feel the need for more and more each time. This deodorant has been a life saver! Thank you so much Jaime and Jeremy!
A quarter cup of food-grade aloe vera gel and 2 tsp. baking soda. Shake and store on counter...24 hour deodorant. Works awesome in this Arizona heat. You don't need to refrigerate.
amazingly what works for me is just coconut butter or oil. i just use it everywhere under my arms as I would any body cream and it works great. discovered this by accident when one day a "healthy and non toxic" deodorant irritated my skin. i use the oil to heal my skin and I notice that i did not need the use any deodorant :)
Great recipe for me and my boyfriend, no stink at all and lovely texture! I tweaked it slightly by adding 2 tbsp of beeswax and slightly more arrowroot. I also switched from lavender to frankincense cause it's more masculine which I like. We enjoy your videos greatly. Thanks for sharing!
I have been making my own deodorant about 4 years now, almost same ingredients minus the essential oils and I don’t cook mine. I put it into an empty deodorant container. It makes it a little easier to put on. I do store mine in the refrigerator cause it will melt at about 74 degrees or higher. Thanks for the wonderful video.
I made this recipe a couple of years ago and I just ran out of it. I tweaked it by only using tea tree oil and I must say as hard as I work and as sweaty as I get this deodorant recipe works to keep the smell completely away, and the nice thing was I did not have to apply it liberally, it was just a very very light stroke of the stick that work. I found that if I used too much it would stain my shirts but just a little dab will do you. I’m getting ready to make another batch. Thank you for this recipe.
I make my own too with just coconut oil, baking soda, cornstarch, and essential oil. It keeps me all day. My skin is sensitive to baking soda so I use just enough to keep me fresh ( 2 heaping tablespoons of baking soda in my recipe )
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this recipe. I suffered for 13 yrs with fununcle, carbuncles, and cysts, due to the chemicals in antiperspirants. I currently use an alumn stone, but i like this recipe and will try it soon
I think your math is a bit off... that NOW Essential Oil costs about $18.49 for the 4oz bottle... 4 ounces contain about 1824 drops.. so, if you divide $18.49 into 1824 = 0.010 per drop. so, 40 drops = approx .40 cents...not $7.20. - - for the Lavender EO to cost $7.20 for 40 drops, you would have had to pay $328 for that bottle lol
A takes as bit of jumping around on Amazon to get directed from 4 ounces for $23 to $11.30 for 10 ounces on Lavender.... Which I use 10 ddrops with 1/4 cup salt(tablesalt),a teaspoon olive oil and a cup and half water to make my "dead sea salt body wash".....the Lavender being a natural antibacterial and bacteria growth deterrent Tea tree oil is also antibacterial and antifungal but I'm allergic to wood sap
I know this is an older video but wanted to let you know how well this worked for me. I have been using it a little over a week. I was actually shocked at how well it works. Best I have found. I made it with arrowroot. I was expecting to perspire a lot like I usually do when I use natural deodorants but, I have not. Thank you for this recipe.
I made this and have been using it for a couple of weeks now. I absolutely love it!!! It really does work. I’ve tried store bought aluminum-free kinds, but they just didn’t work well for me. Thank you so much for sharing your know-how!
Made this deodorant 2 nights ago. The test for me was taking my daughter to Walmart. This is not about the store, but the number of people always present. My daughter suffers from severe anxiety and being around a lot of people brings it on. She picks up their vibrations.in turn, her body begins to emit an odor, which I feel is her body's defense mechanism to protect herself and keep people away. IT WORKED!!! Been wanting to get away from aluminum based products, but something that actually worked for my daughter!?! Cannot THANK you enough!!
made this deodorant 2 weeks ago and it is amazing. I did not use any essential oils. I have been using another recipe for 3 years but it stained some of my tee shirts and did not work as well as your recipe. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you love! I cannot use anything with baking soda and your recipe is great! Im testing right now I heard of olive oil and essential oils but never thought of bentonite clay, makes all the difference! Natural is best!
we are making a simplified version of this. ours is just coconut oil, baking soda, cornstarch (organic and gmo free) and teetree oil. we are soo happy with it! in winter when the coconut oil is too hard, we let it sit on the radiator for a few minutes and it is soft.
I have made this one and a spray version but I like the roll on best ! I'll share the recipe if you are interested. I found a glass roll on bottle that I clean and refill. Last me between showers even if I am working hard gardening cleaning out coop and turning compost.
Roll on deodorant Friday, June 3, 2016 8:39 AM Ingredients: 1 tsp. baking soda (non aluminum) you can substitute arrowroot if you are sensitive to baking soda but this is a lot less than most deodorant recipes and is generally well tolerated 3 Tbsp H2O 3/4 tsp glycerin 1/4 Xanthan gum powder 1 1/2 tsp aloe gel 2 tsp Zinc Oxide powder 1/2 tsp almond or Jojoba or coconut oil 10 drops sage (Sage oil is key because it has natural antiperspirant qualities) 10 drops lavender 1/2 tsp vit E oil as preservative
Instructions Place the baking soda and the water into a bowl, and stir until the soda is completely dissolved. Using another container, combine the glycerin, the xanthan gum and stir well. Add in a small quantity of the water/baking soda mixture you made before (about one teaspoon) and using a milk frother (like this www.amazon.com/Ikea-Milk-Frother-303-011-67-Black/dp/B013S27CLQ/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1481461150&sr=8-11&keywords=hand+held+milk+frother ) to combine the ingredients. Keep adding the water/baking soda mixture a little at a time and working it in until it is all incorporated. Add in the aloe gel, zinc oxide, oil of your choice and the essential oils and stir them in to complete the preparation. Pour into a roll-on bottle. Store the extra deodorant for a refill in a amber glass container suitable for essential oil storage (no plastic). IMPORTANT: Shake roll on bottle before applying!
Let me know what you think if you try it! You can find glass roll on bottles on line, have yet to find one with glass or metal balls only plastic, but it does not stay in constant contact with the deodorant solution and mine has not suffered any ill effects from EO's. They have small ones with metal balls but not suitable for deodorant you would have to refill constantly.
Thank you! I too have been struggling to find a good natural deodorant for myself. I'll be gathering the ingredients soon and can't wait to give it a try.
I made this recipe exactly as you did, except I used cornstarch and orange and tea tree oils. It worked better than any deodorant I have tried and I love love love it! My only problem is today, after using it for two days, I woke up this morning and my armpits are red and burning. I don't usually have sensitive skin, so I'm feeling frustrated that my new favorite deodorant that actually works, is now setting my armpits on fire. I'm wondering if anybody has any idea which ingredient I could be sensitive to? Or if maybe I should try using it every other day? I really want to find a way to use this deodorant because it works so well. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Guildbrook Farm for all that you do! Love your videos!
Most are sensitive to the baking soda. Try cutting that back to half the amount. Also, some essential oils can be irritating to certain skin types. Test some diluted oil on your skin and see if you have a reaction.
Can you totally eliminate baking soda in this recipe? If I use even a small amount I have red irritated skin. Very sensitive skin. Thanks for the great videos.
Some people are very allergic. I am not sure it would work. I am working on testing some other herbal deodorants that don’t have baking soda. I will let you know if I have any success
I had the same thing happen to me from a similar recipe. A year later and my pits are still slightly discolored. I had to settle for Crystal salt block
It's the baking soda which is promoting a skin infection. Skin has a natural acidic level with discourages fungal & bacterial growth, the baking soda nutralises the acid balance on your skin. Add vit c or vinegar to mixture and try again after you have healed. Similarly, if you use dissolved baking soda to wash your hair or body, finish with a dissolved vitamin c rinse to restore that balance. I learned the hard way.
Sweating is the body's way of cooling itself. As for deodorant, I've started making my own, and have no issues with smelling after a hard work out, so it's all good.
I'm definitely on board with you when it comes to being afraid of the aluminum in so many commercial brands. Our skin is porous like a big sponge & imagine the long hours we wear deodorant. I have been making my own diy homemade deodorant for years & I'll never go back to buying commercial brands again. I will definitely give your recipe a try. If you're interested Amazon sells a push-pop style deodorant applicator that makes it easy to apply. Thank y'all for sharing so many great videos! ❤️
Ok! Finally! I made your deodorant! When I saw this video months ago I wanted to make it, but then I found something with comparable ingredients. So I bought that instead. It was ok. Then I ran out...and thought OK! Now I have a container to put it in! I substituted the coconut oil with olive oil and the arrowroot with cornstarch, because that's what I had on hand. I also added another tablespoon of beeswax so that it would set up a little more solid. AMAZING! I LOVE it.... It preformed remarkably well and I even took a walk with my sweater on in the 90 degree heat to test it. lol I was a tiny bit concerned that the oil would stain my shirt, but it didn't. I honestly love it! Thanks for the recipe! I won't buy deodorant ever again!
Love stuff like this. Had to stop using commercial deodorants about 15 years ago. I'm allergic to life and everything in it. Have been researching alternatives to every day products. I plan on trying this. It looks better than other recipes I've seen. God bless You Tube. Such a wealth of information. And thank you for sharing....( =
Is your fire hydrant painted to match your kitchen lol.. your so amazing,I love your channel.. you are what I strive to be as a mother, wife, house wife, cook, homesteaders etc... love you guys
I have never tried arrowroot in mine will have to next time. I have been using my own for years even while working in restaurants and never had a complaint, I'll never go back to commercial
Janice B I have the same issue. I'm baking soda sensitive! I can never reapply without washing my armpits and sometimes if I sweat a lot, I will still get burned. It is awful! Maybe I'll half her recipe, without the baking soda, and test my "stink level". Are you saying you don't need the baking soda? The only way I've found to effectively reduce my stink, without products of any kind, is to stay far away from unclean food, no dairy, and reduce how much meat I eat. But sometimes...a girl just wants what a girl wants... and I stink for a day or so. lol
I also have been thinking about making a deodorant that completely removes bad-smelling sweet permanently but I do not know where to start. I have ingredients ready to start but just wonder what makes solid rub in stuff. I learned some from your video though. Thank you.
thanks so much, will be trying this week. I'm at the "return" to commercial stage and NOT happy but other naturals purchased at the health food store and trying baking soda just did not work so anxious to try. thanks!
years ago I heard on public radio about using milk of magnesia for young girls. just pour it in a bowl and let it evaporate to cream consistency. I love it and it works well for odor on me. it washes out of clothes if you get it on them
Baking soda leaves my skin itchy and after a few days raw. The things that work amazing for me are actually very easy -pure milk of magnesia, or zinc oxide powder mixed with some oil, or a teaspoon of activated charcoal taken internally, or bentonite clay mask on underarms. Zinc oxide is sticky and needs to be applied just once in a few days. People also say, that bentonite mask eventually needs to be used just once a week or so (after using it for a few weeks daily, then every second day, and so on.) I tried bentonite clay and there was absolutely no bad smell even after 24 hours with heavy heat and moving around all day. But I lost my patience applying it after a week or so, LOL. Zinc oxide is my most common one I use. I use the same for sunscreen (just make it a bit less thick.) And it would work as diaper lotion.
feltingme oh I'm glad to see this comment I've been using this for about a week or two now and my poor arm pits are red and irritated. I wonder if it might be the grittiness of the baking soda.
I think it is because baking soda is extremely alkaline, and burns more sensitive skin. I shudder when people use it to brush their teeth... It might work as a well melted rinse, but certainly not to brush with powder. Way too harsh. On the other hand, for cleaning bathtub it is perfect. Activated charcoal or clay works for teeth. And licorice stick (or any other edible twig, that has soft enough texture. Cleans much better than a toothbrush.
Stink level, so cute 😊 I started with mommypotamus man stink deodorant recipe, years ago, tweaked it slightly and oh wonder it works fantastic for the hubby, I just need to remind him that more is not better and he needs to stop glob bing it on 😊 no more chemical junk, also no more pit stains!
I am very excited to try this! Thank you for sharing. As far as cost, the deodorant I currently use is $14 per stick and lasts less than a month so this would art be a saving for me!
Perfect timing on this! My store bought deodorant is running out and I was just thinking this morning that I need to finally make my own like I keep telling myself I will. Thanks for sharing your recipe! - All the best ~ Theresa
Sounds like a good one. I may reduce or substitute the coconut oil for our cold climate as I find diy personal care products I make with it tend to be too hard lol.
I’m definitely going to try your recipe except I’m going to sent it with peach instead of lavender. I have looked at many recipes and none have appealed to me but yours I think I will like. I’m love the outdoors and live in the south so I need a deodorant that will work
Jamie is this thick enough for me to pour into my stick deodorant container and use it that way? I already use a lot of lavender for sleep. Love the outtakes.
Many people are sensitive to the baking soda in deodorant, there are recipes on you tube with alternatives. I found this out the hard way. Then I started watch alternative recipes and found it’s quite common to be sensitive to bs in a deodorant
You should get into teaching how to make essential oils. Down in Texas, a lot of people make their own... I'd love to see a fun video from you on essential oils. GREAT VIDEO BTW!
fab, also good idea to add that the deodorant would actually last for months. I made a jar about that big and it lasts at least 8 mths. So even though initially costs to buy the ingredients but look how much you're saving from buying those rubbish deodorants. Also what's the cost on your health?
Honestly I couldn't find anything that I liked for me so I decided to stop wearing any deodorant what so ever. I know to some people that might sound just gross but if you are not sweating it wouldn't matter if you wore any. In the summer I wash my underarms once or twice a day if I am out in public. It has been just shy of 2 years not wearing any and I must admit It is nice not having to worry about that :)
I just found your channel today and I am really enjoying your videos and am a new subscriber!! I make a similar deodorant that is a solid it is baking soda, corn starch, beeswax, and coconut oil, and tea tree oil, and any other I'm in the mood for. I think that the key is the tea tree oil-- That is what really makes it work. I love using tea tree, patchouli, and lemongrass it smells great!
I make a version of this with lemongrass and it works a charm. I use lemongrass in spring/summer and I'm going to be trying Rosemary/tea tree for autumn/winter shortly. :D Quick question, does yours melt in the summer heat? I've had problems with mine going all runny (no a/c). I've tried adding more solidifiers like beeswax/shea butter but it just seems to go smoosh no matter what.
You calculated the price at the end which is great by the way but do you know how much you are saving if you bought this from a manufacturer. Brilliant video`s thankyou for taking time to make them, All the best for the new year from the UK
I understand that this is an older video that you may be tired of answering questions on it. I’m a new subscriber. LOVE your channel. In your other herbal deodorant, which I made for the first time last night :) you used sage for the antiperspirant. Would that be an ok deal to put in this??
I am a new subscriber and can't get enough! I am on a marathon to watch and learn about canning and your cost effective solutions. My question is, where do you buy your Lavender? I have been shopping around for best price and quality but have not found yet. Thanking you and your husband for educating a beginner homesteader. You Rock!
The oils from this don't stain your clothes? I've also tried Tom's and the other "natural" ones. The salt deodorant stick is ok. But rubbing alcohol works like magic! Every other day is enough.
We take our own lavender herbs or lemon balm herb & add the leaves to boiling water and steep until it's cold. Strain off the liquid. use the liquid which has become infused naturally with the herbs. use this water as your base in deodorant paste making. Also put in the refrigerator for 4 hours to set up. Makes a wonderful gift if you use fancy 1/2 pint jars.
Yes! The tapioca worked perfectly. I would say both are great but since I already use tapioca in my bread flour, I am just going to continue to use that so I won't be purchasing additional products.
I really enjoy your videos, good information and a very down to earth, laid back manner. I'm curious, do you make your own laundry soap? If so, I would be curious what recipe you use, is it powder or liquid, etc. One of them, she uses the same basic soap recipe and adds more or less of certain items to use it for household cleaners and dish soap.
I tried several and all ended up with my clothes smelling like mildew after 2 months. That is one of those things I just chalk up and use a cheap commercial product. Just about everything else I make.

Roll on deodorant

1 1/2 tsp aloe gel

I had the same thing happen to me from a similar recipe. A year later and my pits are still slightly discolored. I had to settle for Crystal salt block
It's the baking soda which is promoting a skin infection. Skin has a natural acidic level with discourages fungal & bacterial growth, the baking soda nutralises the acid balance on your skin. Add vit c or vinegar to mixture and try again after you have healed. Similarly, if you use dissolved baking soda to wash your hair or body, finish with a dissolved vitamin c rinse to restore that balance. I learned the hard way.
Thank you for your recipe,im going to use your recipe❤️
Thank you for taking the time to show us this recipe. Take care and good luck on your ventures.
+Marcy Maher I am glad the subs worked for you. Thanks for the update 😊
+Qwazier3 Just make sure you test it first. Some people have a sensitivity to baking soda. Good luck!
Is your fire hydrant painted to match your kitchen lol.. your so amazing,I love your channel.. you are what I strive to be as a mother, wife, house wife, cook, homesteaders etc... love you guys
You guys do great videos.
Thank you
i recently tried making my own deodorant, thanks to you. thank you. and it does work 👍👍
Thanks for sharing.
I have never tried arrowroot in mine will have to next time. I have been using my own for years even while working in restaurants and never had a complaint, I'll never go back to commercial
I stopped using baking soda, because it was making my skin red and peeling skin. The arrowroot is said to be more gentile.
Janice B
I have the same issue.
Thank you.
hi its 2024 hope u are well... I used this and added a few frangrances and this is the best ..
Great share, I'd love to make this.
Love your channel, full of great info, thanks for sharing.
Love the breakdown of the cost! This is a great channel.
+Catigue Thank you :0)
I'll have to give this a try, minus the tea tree oil as I'm allergic. thanks for the video.
+Pattycakes You're welcome!
thanks so much, will be trying this week. I'm at the "return" to commercial stage and NOT happy but other naturals purchased at the health food store and trying baking soda just did not work so anxious to try. thanks!
+Sheila Hughes yup same issues! Let me know what you think!
Loved this video thanks alot
years ago I heard on public radio about using milk of magnesia for young girls. just pour it in a bowl and let it evaporate to cream consistency. I love it and it works well for odor on me. it washes out of clothes if you get it on them
that is a crazy recipe!
So much baking soda! geeze
yay for Formulating education!
+Ashley Dempsey Yes it likely is. Some people are sensitive to it. Try cutting back to half the amount
That is awesome!
I really want to try this.
Let us know if you do :0)
Stink level, so cute 😊
I started with mommypotamus man stink deodorant recipe, years ago, tweaked it slightly and oh wonder it works fantastic for the hubby, I just need to remind him that more is not better and he needs to stop glob bing it on 😊 no more chemical junk, also no more pit stains!
I am very excited to try this! Thank you for sharing.
As far as cost, the deodorant I currently use is $14 per stick and lasts less than a month so this would art be a saving for me!
Let me know how it turns out for you
Perfect timing on this! My store bought deodorant is running out and I was just thinking this morning that I need to finally make my own like I keep telling myself I will. Thanks for sharing your recipe! - All the best ~ Theresa
Let me know how it works for you!
I’m love the outdoors and live in the south so I need a deodorant that will work
Thanks!! love your channel. Cant wait to see what u do with the new property! !!
Jamie is this thick enough for me to pour into my stick deodorant container and use it that way? I already use a lot of lavender for sleep. Love the outtakes.
Awesome! I'm a soaper so I have all of those ingredients here already :)
Let us know how you like it!
I can't wait to try this. Thanks so much!
Many people are sensitive to the baking soda in deodorant, there are recipes on you tube with alternatives. I found this out the hard way. Then I started watch alternative recipes and found it’s quite common to be sensitive to bs in a deodorant
Yes we have a video on one
Great tutorial! Thank you.
You should get into teaching how to make essential oils. Down in Texas, a lot of people make their own... I'd love to see a fun video from you on essential oils. GREAT VIDEO BTW!
Susan Cooper I’m in Texas. How do you make essential oils? Would you take lavender and juice it? I don’t understand.
Great recipe! I make DIY deo, too and love it!
Can't wait to try this! I have all the ingredients all ready!
I love this deodorant 😀 I've tried a variety of different recipes but by far this is the best...thanks for sharing 👍
Awesome! Thank you for getting back to us and reviewing it! :0)
looks easy enough
fab, also good idea to add that the deodorant would actually last for months. I made a jar about that big and it lasts at least 8 mths. So even though initially costs to buy the ingredients but look how much you're saving from buying those rubbish deodorants. Also what's the cost on your health?
Love this!
I can't say I am a fan of patchouli, but I do love lemongrass. I never tried it in deodorant though.
Thank you for sharing. So many harsh chemicals in commercial deodorants.
Thank you for sharing!
I may have to try this for my man! He has such senstive skin and is actually allergic to antiperspirants!
I made this and it works amazingly! Unfortunately my armpits turned very dark and I hate it. Any way I can avoid that?
Does the coconut oil leave a greasy stain on your clothes?
+Country Living Experience I have had no issues with it - but I do wear dark clothes
Iam allergic to baking soda can i use something else?
@@victoriamelendez4383 you can try pure magnesium oil
I am a new subscriber and can't get enough! I am on a marathon to watch and learn about canning and your cost effective solutions.
My question is, where do you buy your Lavender? I have been shopping around for best price and quality but have not found yet.
Thanking you and your husband for educating a beginner homesteader. You Rock!
Amazon usually. I get Now brand. I think it’s in the description. Also welcome!
How much more wax to make a solid so I can pour into a soap mold? I'd like to make some for my grandson. Thanks
just came over, prepper potpourri sent me over. subbed. really liked this video and will make every attempt to keep up with your new posts.
Welcome to the channel!
Thanks! Great video. You said you are using tapioca for the first time. Did it work? Which one do you prefer? Tapioca or arrowroots?
Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living Have you ever tried soap nuts for laundry?
+Beth Walker No I haven't. I don't think they aren't really my thing. If it were a SHTF situation I would use them though
Have you ever noticed any oil spots on your clothing after use??
Nope. I have had no issues with stains or spots. But I should also mention I am always wearing dark colors as well.
Can we substitute baking soda for something else?
Hi, which ingredients will you use for men😊
Love it.
I'm new here but enjoy your vids keep up the good work .
Welcome!
What if you dont really want a scented deodorant, will leaving out the essential oils change how it works?
I was also wondering this 🤔
Can we just skip the essential oils?
I love the cost breakdowns you do! Curious, though, as to how long your $12 deodorant lasts?
She did say she uses it once to twice a day depending on her activity.
Tracy do you think it could be made a little harder and put in a deodorant stick?
Where do you get your supplies? And is there any specific brand that you like to use? Thank you. Your videos are great and very helpful
You can order from natures garden on line or bramble berry or bulk apothecary, so many places
Approx how long does one jar last as in applications
