Another really good essential oil for oder is lemongrass. ... it's analgesic (stops pain and inflamation/redness that you can get from shaving)and it's highly deodorizing. .. only thing is you gotta be a fan of the scent cause it's SKRONG... Not strong but SKRONG! LOL! it's also great to add in an aftershave oil for the face an bikini area... 😉 I love these tutorials btw!
I made this for myself about three weeks ago and I LOVE IT! I loved it so much I made another four jars for my friends and they all LOVE it too! Thank you so much for your videos. You are seriously blessing my life, as no only have I tried this, but I made your whipped double butter cream and am in LOVE with that too! Nothing but love for you!!
I haven't read any research but i usually do like you :-) i research, we so have to self educate regarding our health i find!, i really noticed a huge difference in my body odor, i feel proud of myself for this shift, i also am searching for a natural deodorant for the smell of it now, jsut for that :-) and for occasions when i have to be flawless like interviews etc...love what you mentionned about chlorophylle, love your videos actually, sending you a friendly hello :-)
This comment is for Ashley N. since for some odd reason there is no reply button on your comment. I totally understand about being a college student, as I was one twice! I do talk about the cost efficiency in my videos. Making all natural things at home is definitely more cost efficient after you make an initial investment in all the ingredients, because each ingredient lasts much longer and can be used for other all natural DIY's. But as a student some recipes like this one may be too steep. You can search for 3 ingredient deodorant recipes to keep the cost down. I just try to make the most efficient DIY's and some require more ingredients.
I tried everything since I used to smell like that bag of onions, too. Now I use just lemon juice. Real juice from a real lemon. I no longer stink and I've been free of chemicals ever since. At first, my underarms had lumps form on them, then suddenly the lumps disappeared and haven't returned. I was told by my Doctor that my pits were actually detoxing when the lumps formed. Plus, I no longer have discoloration there like I did when I used conventional deodorants as well as when I used so-called natural ones. I also found that baking soda broke me out badly. Now my deodorant only costs the price of a bag of lemons. I'm happier for it.
undergroundparablist I agree. After living in Ghana and returning to the states the best option I found is simply a slice of lemon rubbed under the arm after my shower. Store in the refrig in a ziplock. 1 slice will last a couple days then just cut a new wedge from your lemon.
Love! I make a similar version and use old sanitized deodorant containers to put it in for ease of use. I've found a mixture of baking soda that works for my sensitive skin as well as one that works for those who need extra strength. I have not used tea tree oil (I do plan to) but the eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, lemongrass oil, and jasmine oil has not been a problem for keeping odors at bay for me. Definitely keep trying it is fun to make, cheaper, and healthier.
While I already make my own deodorant and am quite happy with my own recipe, I watched this video in it's entirety! You are quite captivating with your unassuming manner, clear and concisely stated information, and amiable and casual tone. And it doesn't hurt either that you are easy on the eyes:-) Just my 2 cents
I agree with you on how dangerous deodorant can be, I was using a supposed natural brand that ended up making the skin under my arms peel and burn.TMI. Anyway thanks for posting this video:-)
Does anyone else get dark underarms with diy natural deodorant? I suspect it's the baking soda. I can't omit it because I'll be smelly. I use less but still get dark. And I mix cornstarch with arrowroot powder. Any suggestions?
Ashley Adams Just started using lemon slices, just swiping a thin slice under clean and dry arms and its been amazing! I couldn't believe that a simple lemon could take care of the funk but it does even at the gym which was the first place I tested it and was sold ever since. And I find that using lemon (along with killing bacteria and lightening hyperpigmentation) allows me not to have to reapply so often. I took a shower and did not reapply after the gym once and my underarms stayed fresher longer. Before using lemon, if I were to take a while after showering without applying deodorant right away, I would start getting sweaty and the odor would start pretty soon. Lemon works great!
i stop using deodorant 2 years ago for the same reason and result...a bag of onions! Today, I am still looking for a natural deodorant that works. The natural food store has tons and they don't work. Thank you for this!!!
This was great. The best natural deodorant I have found is PRIMAL PIT PASTE. You can find it online or at some Whole Foods stores. It's $10.00 and last for a really long time.
I use baking soda and oil I can get my hands on which works great but leaves you feeling a bit sweaty/wet later on in the day. This combination sounds and looks really good for a make at home deodorant. Thanks for this vid.
Miessence brand Ancient Spice roll-on is the only natural deodourant i've tried that actually worked. Only downside is it ships from Australia and the store uses a lot of packaging for the one small bottle, which is wasteful, so next time i'll order 3 bottles, hopefully it means less plastic filler packaging. :)
Hey Nikisha, I absolutely loved this, and in general love all your DIY videos - it's always right up my alley! I have been very focused on buying natural deodorant, as in no parabens, no aluminium, and would love to try this recipe (when I can pull myself together to get all the ingredients).
UrbanBushBabes THIS VIDEO WAS LOVELY!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!! BUT I WAS WONDERING DO YOU KNOW OF A SUBSTITUTES FOR THE BAKING SODA. I HAVE MADE MY OWN DEO BEFORE AND TRIED USING BAKING SODA FOR MANY USES,BUT IT IS WAAAAAY TO HARSH AND DRYING FOR MY SKIN!!!BROKE OUT IN RASHES,SKIN PEELED OFF AND HAD THE APPEARANCE AND FEEL OF BURNT FLESH ANY IDEAS WOULD E GREATLY APPRECIATED! GOD BLESS.
Nikisha! Wow girl ive been watching your diy vids for recipes and i must say you are so inspirational. Just wanted to share, prior to watching this video, I was using 100% lemon juice in a spray bottle or on a cotton pad for my underarms. It worked great for eliminating odor! What are your thoughts on using it for a prolonged period of time?
Thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to make my own. This was helpful. Do you have any re-commendations or could you please do a video on how to prevent darkened underarms - I know a lot of factors play into this. Whether it's shaving, the store-bought deodorants I've been using, etc. I just want my arm pits color to match or be close to my natural skin color. Any suggestions or tips will be helpful. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
Katye Proctor Freelon thank you sooo much! I bought the tin from The Container Store. I wasn't able to find 4 oz tins on amazon so shared the 4oz amber glass jars in a link in the description box.
Do you think a different oil can be substituted for coconut oil? Whenever I use coconut oil on my skin, it takes on this pukey smell after a while that lingers even after I wash the oil off. I have really bad underarm odor and have even switched to men's deodorant, Dove. I usually rub hand sanitizer on my underarms to kill bacteria, let it dry, and then do a layer of deodorant. That method has helped A LOT. Even simply switching to mens deodorant. Can the detox be used in conjunction with non natural deodorants? Sounds bad, but I don't know if I am ready to commit, make, or try out natural deodorants yet.
Yurrah Al-Hadi I wouldn't suggest a substitution for coconut oil because it plays a vital role in keeping bacteria and odor at bay. The whole purpose of the detox is so your glands can release the toxins and chemicals held in by non natural deodorant. So using a non natural deodorant in conjunction with the armpit detox defeats the whole purpose of the detox.
Kia O'Hara I find that my skin isn't more or less dry using it. It also helps combat the odor because I even tried it with an unscented deodorant. I rarely use lotions, mainly shea butter mixed with different oils. I've also tried showering, I shower 1-2 times a day, and using different deodorants. I still sweat loads and have to reapply constantly. I also do not eat spicy foods at all, nor onions. The only two things I drink on a regular basis is water, tea, and ice tea. I also wear clean clothes. So, I don't really know what else to try right now.
kisakye92 I've even tried applying it to my skin right after I showered and dried, on clean and dirty hair, and the same thing just happens after a while. Even when I mixed it with other oils or butters. I had to eat the rest of the container I had. I used it to fry eggs instead of vegetable oil and every now and then I took a spoon full. I suggest doing that to get the benefits.
Hmmm. Let me think. Have you tried unclogging the pores under your arms? They gave a great recipe to do this on Livestrong (I tried to paste it but was getting an error).
Kia O'Hara Not really, that's why I was asking the lovely Nikisha about the detox thing. I know apple cider vinegar is a good way to release toxins in the body overall and balance ph levels. I use it in my hair and LOVE it. I am currently changing to all plant based diet and I want to go back to exercising to just detox and clean out my whole system, get healthy.

thank you for the video! I noticed that when i decrease my meat consumption i almost don't need any!
Femintel you're welcome! I have read that research show that meat consumption does cause the bacteria that is the culprit of odor.

I keep it simple i use lemon juice and it works great thanks for sharing though

I was looking up recipes for natural deodorant just the other day. I think I might use this one instead. Thanks for sharing this with us.☺
Darn, was hoping this wasn't another baking soda recipe. Those become quite irritating for many after extended use.
NayaJudah you can try and omit the baking soda and double up on the arrowroot powder.
Omg I have to stop using deodorant ugh so bad. Thank u so much for the video I will share this. Because I get lumps under my arms.
This was great. The best natural deodorant I have found is PRIMAL PIT PASTE. You can find it online or at some Whole Foods stores. It's $10.00 and last for a really long time.
I tried it but it broke me out because of the baking soda. But I liked it on my lips, strangely enough. LOL.
Soyane Austin apple cider vinegar works best

I love your DIY's they are so helpful. Thanks for this. I will try this as I am against the manufactured deodorants/anti-antiperspirants as well. xx
Awesome video... Health is so important. Health means good inside and out.

Wow, I would have never imagined people making their own deodorant. I'm watching this in my kitchen right now but I am baking brownies from a box.
Love this! Careful with clary sage if you are pregnant!

I love how all these DIYs have been what I've been interested in making/using! So great!
Can I use other oils besides lavender oil and clary sage oil if I don't like the smell?

Shoopalexia try vinegar if it don't work
This recipe is a bit different from the ones I've used in the past, it has more ingredients. Thanks for sharing. I will give this a shot.
So....I am allergic to coconut oil. What is a good coconut oil substitute?
