Single Layer Insulation Systems for Metal Buildings

  • A continuous vapor barrier can be achieved with a single layer of insulation in a metal building. Fiberglass insulation rolls with a vapor barrier pre-applied are installed above the roof purlins or wall girts before the metal roof or wall panels are applied. This application gives the building a thermal break between the exterior metal on the building and the interior metal framing. Up to 6″ of fiberglass can be installed which offers a rating of R-19.
Our insulation rolls are precut to fit your metal building’s dimensions before they are laminated with the vapor barrier. Tabs are provided to create a continuous vapor barrier by attaching to the next piece of insulation.
This system is typically installed in garages, shops, enclosed carports and storage buildings. If you are using the building for more frequently populated applications a higher R-Value is recommended for comfort.

Now, let's say that insulation is 30 years old. Wet and previously infested with squirrels and mice. Insulation was removed to be replaced up to the first cross beam. Question is what insulation should I use to replace it with? Board insulation?

@@PinkFZeppelin it definitely does. Fortunately I moved onto summertime projects but that nightmare is still looming in the distance. Let me know what you come up with.

I'm here asking the same question. Had a leak on the roof that's been there for way too long. It's destroyed the insulation. We pulled down the damaged parts now I'm realizing it doesn't look so easy to put it back up.

Same. I bought a building with leaks and rodents in between. Looks like removing the panels fully is the only way.

Yep where it gets mashed between framing and siding is a point of major nonwanted temperature radiating through

I naively believed this advertising hype when I put up my metal building. The gurts and purlins are a thermal bridge because the fiberglass is squashed down flat. It is impossible to keep the building cool in the summer and it costs a fortune to heat in the winter.

I think this system is intended for non conditioned metal workshops.
