Thanks Nicholas for sharing your thoughts and practical uses for the ipad mini. My first apple product was the ipad mini 2 which I bought in 2015 and it still works! So I love it when people show how much they use and care for their ipad minis. More power to your channel and continue making great content.

I have used mini2, mini5, and now mini 6.
Love them all.
I also have 12.9" Pro M1, but mini is my favorite.
Both 2 of my kids have minis and they turned down an offer when I asked if they wanted bigger iPads.
My iPad mini 6 and iPhone 13 mini are my EDC.
12.9" M1 iPad Pro and Macbook Air M2 are for home use most of the time. 😅
I absolutely agree… I love mine. I got the new iPad Air 11 and regret it because I was upgrading an old iPad even though I knew I didn’t need or want a larger one. I just admire the mini and it’s my go to device

I got my first iPad mini when I found my iPhone 4s too small to read a book on.
I just love the iPad mini. It's just the right size. It's CRAZY portable and fits in my jacket pocket.
It's always big enough but NEVER too big. Excellent for working in relatively cramped quarters and light enough to use in bed.
I have 2 iPad Pro 12.9 and thanks to you I bought and iPad mini last year and is my every day tool for work and personal life ❤
If I didn't already have an older 11" iPad I would absolutely go with the Mini, such a useful size. What I REALLY want from Apple though, is a foldable iPhone Pro that turns from a roughly phone sized device into an iPad mini sized device when unfolded. Then I would have that device and my MacBook and cover every use case in just those two devices.
Apparently that’s planned in the future!

I feel the same about my Galaxy Fold. I waffled between the iPad Mini and the Fold (they're nearly the same size) and decided on the Fold since it also allows me to ditch a standalone phone and often even a PC since I can connect it to my monitor and use DeX.
If you find the Mini a good solution, take it a step further with a Fold 😊
I watched this video thinking exactly this. Surely the Fold is the ultimately minimalist device, phone, tablet full computer with keyboard and mouse with Dex. great for Kindle etc.

I love my Mini…I have the iPad Pro 12.9 (2022 edition), iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPad Mini. Whenever I head out traveling or just going to the dealership to get some work done on my Jeep and I’ll be there a while, I grab my Mini…videos, emails, paying bills, Kindle books and just general surfing, it’s the perfect travel tool.

Depending on whether playing games is meaningful to you, iPad mini might be an interesting choice. I wrote my thesis on it, many years ago (with an external keyboard). Since I don't play games and already have a MacBook that does everything this iPad can (except for drawing, but I don't draw), I see no point for an iPad (I had Mini and Pro in the past). I would rather buy a Kindle again, or just buy/borrow a physical book.
I personally don't find iPad the "ultimate minimalist tool". A laptop is one, because it does virtually everything better.
So, if you (like me) don't play games, don't draw, and easily get distracted - don't buy an iPad. Have a laptop, and either buy/borrow physical books and/or buy an e-reader. You probably can't go more minimal than that while still being on top of technology.

As an artist, the 11” iPad Pro has totally replaced my laptop as my main computing & content creation device. I use it not only for drawing, but also for video & photo editing. But when I really want to travel light, the iPad mini is my go to device. It is the perfect portable digital sketchbook. It’s been 3 years since the mini was last updated, and I am really looking forward to the iPad mini 7.

I’m so glad I switched to the mini. If they ever upgrade the mini, I want them to include specs that the bigger iPads have and to include pairing for the newest Apple Pencil as well as the second gen Apple Pencil.
I just downgraded from 10.5 to the mini, my Logitech pencil works with it fine. If you haven’t tried that one, depending on your use, it might work for you
I had an older iPad mini and gave it to my daughter and replaced it with an iPad air. I /never/ use it. Recently I bought the newest mini (even though it's still old) and I use that thing all the time. The size makes a difference. I'd love to see another video on apps you use with it.

Yes! I would love to see a games over view video. If you want to go completely overboard with gaming on the iPad mini, there is the Razer Kishi Ultra controller that extends over the side of the ipad mini, essentially turning it into a handheld with controllers attached.
Perhaps that defies the minimalism angle of your channel 😊

I’m on the train for 3hrs a day for travel to and from work. I enjoy using my iPad mini wifi for content viewing. I tether to my iPhone 15 Pro for streaming as required. While at home I’m using my home wifi using Safari, RUclips, Email and productivity apps like numbers and pages. It’s a brilliant device, light, small which complements my overall setup.

Unfortunately, the current iPad mini is not compatible for Apple intelligence so I am hoping that there is a new one coming out with a processor that can handle it. You might find that the iPad mini will be even more of an all round device with Apple intelligence. I used to have an iPad mini and absolutely loved the form factor.
Great video, one thing though. For people like me, I work remote as a web developer and have a great existing desk setup with 2 accounts, one for work and one for home. Either solutions are probably fine for home use, they just give you different experiences. I have a thunderbolt 4 dock I'd use for my peripherals for both devices as well, so I'd need to test that out and see how that'd work. I'm probably a tad too lazy to swap out my MacBook Air on my laptop stand for my iPad Mini though even though they're right next to each other 😂

I’ll add that I also have an iPad Mini 6 and absolutely love it! Mainly use it for media consumption and reading. I always thought tablets were excessive with already having a phone and laptop, until I got this mini.

I heard a rumor, but I’m not 100% sure if it’s true: Apple might be releasing an iPad Mini Pro! I hope this is true because that would enable you to do with the Mini what others do with the Pro. Minimalism would really get a big kick upstairs.

its a great device but I only seem to get about 6 hours battery life on average - even when experimenting with brightness levels, turning off background refresh etc. it doesn't seem to help me that much

I’ve always thought that the iPad Mini is Apple’s perfect device. Phones are great, but too small to watch content, and normal tablets are great viewing experiences, but too bulky to carry around. The Mini is the perfect device for everything. I have a Mini 4, but unfortunately, it’s outdated and just too slow now. I’ll also be interested in seeing how Apple updates the Mini 7, but it will still be pricey, so I might get the 6 for a great price once the 7 releases. Amazon recently had the 6 for $379. 😎

I enjoyed mine but, after a few months I got rid of it. I found my iphone 15 max pro was just as good for me while I wait for apples new version (hopefully coming soon)

I think this was a pretty good video, but I disagree with the ability to split your screen point. You can already do that with your laptop. If anything I tend to find it more distracting because I end up having a RUclips playing in the background.

I am overdue for an upgrade from my iPad pro.I have the original iPad pro, and the mini looks more and more appealing to me. My only concern is that since I am currently learning to draw and using my iPad for that, if the small screen size will be an issue.
I understand. I do draw on the mini a lot, and obviously and used to it, but I could see it being difficult to downsize if that’s your main use for an iPad
I just downsized from the original 12.9 pro to a mini and started to draw way more again. The convenience of being able to draw in almost any position, holding the iPad in one hand is a big plus and the size is less of a holdup to take it anywhere. Another RUclipsr made a great comment about how the bigger iPads are harder to start drawing on because the empty canvas feels bigger to start filling up and I definitely notice that. Also, you can still keep your original pro around for bigger drawing projects, or just to see if you still reach for it after picking up a mini. My original 12.9 still doesn’t feel slow or old to me anyhow.
@@jochemcasier6974 Dang thank you for this! That's the one I have, the original 12.9 pro. I like it, minus the pencil charging and how fast the battery dies. I was doing quite a bit of research on this, and I have been seeing people say the mini is a great digital sketchbook, and if you want to do anything big or professional, its better to use a different one with a larger screen. I do think I will get a mini in the near future. The stuff I draw isn't big or fancy tbh. It makes a lot of sense too about how the larger ones are harder to draw on because of the bigger blank space.
@@cryoweasel I found a mini at half the price of retail second hand and figured to just buy it and see how it fits my daily. Not much danger in trying it out this way as the resell value would be pretty much te same if it wouldn’t work out after a month or so.

Does the iPad Mini get warm when just reading a book? The one I tried in the Apple Store did, and I found it annoying, although maybe that was just because it was plugged in charging, I don't know.
Never had issue with heat personally
