It's good to know that it's still a valid option if ever I decide to try my hand at drawing/making art. Thanks for the great videos!
I just got the mini last week with the Apple Pencil and it’s been amazing! I’ve always enjoyed smaller sketchbooks like the moleskins so I knew it was the right choice for me 😊
I think this might be my new favorite youtube channel. I don't normally comment (usually just lurk in the comments section), but I just watched about 3 of your videos already and it's so refreshing to hear an artist talk about ADHD. Makes me feel less alone. Please keep going.
It really is a perfect sketchbook! I bought a sketchbook kit for Procreate and draw on it ALL THE TIME. I now mostly use my 12.9 for more finished products and the mini is my everyday carry. It’s even replaced my beloved A5 Midoris. I have two fully new Midori traveler notebooks that I haven’t even cracked the spine on because I love the experience of the mini
Have you experienced any issues with using too many layers? That’s one of the things I’ve heard is that the mini doesn’t have the ram or power to handle a lot of layers. Not sure how many but when I use procreate I never really went past 8 or 10 layers anyway
@@4G63Tx I haven't had any issues with layer limits in Fresco, but I don't really use Procreate that often. I do know they used to limit layers on different ipads based on specs, and I think they still do.
@@4G63Tx No actually the sketchbooks that I bought have both a4 and a5 size options and with a5 (almost screen size on mini6) I get 119 layers at 300 dpi so it gives me 50 “pages” with each having their own paper texture. When I export the sketchbooks as pdfs I end up with ~54 pages. I say that to say, I use the crud out of layers and have very few problems. I've only ever drawn on an iPad mini specifically for that fact that it fit in the pocket of my hoodies so when it was time to upgrade and my mom basically stole my old one I didn't even consider any other iPad than the mini 6 😅
I’ve had a lot of the same justifications for you about wanting an iPad mini and also have the same excuse that I don’t go anywhere so I haven’t purchased one yet 😅 Would love to see an update after a few months maybe to see if you’re still using it frequently.
This video sounds like when my adhd tries to convince me to get a new fancy backpack. “But look at all the pockets! We could be so organized!” But we don’t go anywhere.. “And it opens all the way flat, and it’s not too big, but it has a pocket that would perfectly fit the iPad for drawing on the go!” But we don’t… go anywhere. Is it to carry the iPad from the office to the living room? Is that worth the money? “But it’s on sale for a limited time only!”
I have been beating around this purchase for a while. I think you helped me to decide to get one. I like the way you described the way you use both your iPads. I also have a iPad Pro and was telling myself that I didn’t really need one but you definitely said a few things that made sense as to how I might use both with adobe fresco and maybe watch videos on either the new iPad or the ipad pro while drawing. I was thinking that it might be nice because the weight of it might not hurt my hand so much. Sometimes my whole arm will go pins and needles after drawing on the iPad Pro for too long. Also I can relate to the ADHD stuff. I most certainly have issues with that as well. Lucky I am getting help for that. I am way better at not making impulsive decisions. So I have watched many videos looking for someone to describe to me why I might need one and how I might use it and you have been able to help me see good use case scenarios. Obviously if I wasn’t treating my ADHD, I would have already bought one of these.
You are hilarious, man. I've been wanting this tablet for forever now. I may get back to skillshare once I get it and follow your course for animation😁💗
This is the first video I’ve watched from your channel and you managed to make this incredibly informative and entertaining lol. Just gained a sub. Oh I also just got an ipad mini for sketching myself and you just helped me justify my purchase even more, thanks ◡̈
I'm on the fence on this one. I already have a Cintiq 16 that I use with my Mac mini desktop, and it's my dedicated workplace to do all of my drawing. Yet I wanted something portable that I could take with me anywhere (although I also don't really go anywhere lmao so I'm probably just being reckless with buying one in the first place). I had my eyes on the 11 inch iPad pro, but then I saw the iPad mini at the store and seeing it in person really made me like it a lot more than I thought I would. It looks like it's a nice little fun size to take anywhere. Yet at the same time I feel like the 11 inch gives you more breathing room. But then again, I don't really go anywhere, so do I really NEED one? Maybe not, but I just feel like having one and being able to draw on the couch or somewhere else OTHER than my room would be a nice change of pace and offer my mind a fresh perspective with new ideas and inspiration. In other words, buying one would force me to change things up with my drawing workflow, and I think that's.... a good thing?
I’d say if you already do most of your work on the Cintiq, get the mini. You may end up really loving the experience though, so I apologize if it makes you buy an iPad Pro in the future….
First of all, thank you so much for the shoutout Chris! This was a great video, might be your best yet! I am happy you are loving your new Mini, and I look forward to seeing what you make with it next! #TheMiniMovement #SatchelSquad
As an illustrator, I want to try switching from a pen tablet to the iPad mini 6, because I feel this iPad is compact even though the screen size is not like a regular iPad or Air, is it worth it?
It’s definitely small, but it works well. I would prefer drawing on it to a regular pen tablet. As I mentioned it’s the size of a moleskine sketchbook, but it feels bigger since it’s so easy and intuitive to zoom and move the canvas around.
First time watching and honestly, aside from your enlightenment of the iPad Mini from the view of an artist, how do I purchase your art so you feel reckless or impulsive…which all us artists are! Thanks for your time!

I would love to get my hands on an iPad mini, but the only perfect sketchbook for me, is the Diablo 3 Hardcover Sketchbook I ordered. I even decided to give it a theme and use it for practice drawing bones, skulls, skeletons and other such gruesome undead things.
Ok ok, gave in a bought one and a pen. I have been wanting to try drawing on an iPad for while but the prices of the Pros always scared me off. Plus the size seems perfect as a starter machine to get used to the workflow, tools etc.
I had to subscribe immediately off the iPad Mini satchel demo 😹. I’m not very experienced but I’d like to get into more digital art and I have to replace my old iPad Pro / Apple Pencil 1 duo so I’m thinking of starting with a new mini. I have an 8 month old and find myself yearning for something that’s easy to hold when he’s sprawled across me napping. My old iPad would be way too big to manage. Definitely going to check out your courses. Anything beginner friendly?
Haha thanks! I think you’ll really like the mini. It’s a great size for convenient drawing. I have an 18month old so I know the struggle. I think some of my tutorials on here might be more beginner friendly than my Skillshare classes, but that’s only because a bunch of them are more animated illustration based. But I do try to make them all aimed at people with little to no experience.
The satchel is gonna be trouble for the Apple Pencil. Also, why buy a Pro if you're not gonna use all its features? Just go with the iPad 9, or the Air, if all you need is that size.
No issues so far with the pencil. I do use the power of the iPad Pro when I’m doing more intensive work, but for sketching and simple drawing stuff the mini is quite capable. That’s what I meant.
@@chris-piascik You took the best financial decision. My comment was for other people who buy the Pro to show off or don't know they're not going to need or use it so much. Greetings.
Thanks! I had been using Fresco for a while whenever I needed to do vector art. But I switched to it for most everything around 6 months ago. They’ve updated it so much and it has so many great features. I also love how it fits into my workflow with Photoshop/illustrator.
I also bought the mini 6 three month ago and this video was pretty relatable. I've been thinking of getting a zugu case, but a little bit hesitant because its a non refundable deal with extra $15 for shipping. I live in a place where zugu case does not directly ship to. Just a couple of small questions about the zugu case for mini 6. The mini 6 zugu case just has 7 angles compared to bigger ipads having 10. Did that bother you while you were drawing or doing anything? and one more thing, I am really curious if the three missing angles were the higher ones or the lower ones. I have been watching reviews after reviews but nobody talks about the details. You own both the 12.9 inch and the 8.3 inch ver. zugu case which make you the perfect person who might know the answer.😍
Thanks for the comment! To be honest I didn’t even notice the smaller ZUGU case had less angles. I don’t use them for anything other than propping it up if I’m playing a video while doing something else. I prefer having the iPad in my hand or flat on a surface when I’m drawing. I’ll look a bit closer at them side by side and get back to you!
I'm new to art. Should I start with traditional pencil and paper and then migrate to digital art or directly buy an iPad and start digital painting? Any help??
I don’t think it really matters which way you start, some people feel strongly about starting on paper… but I don’t know… I think just drawing is most important regardless of whether it’s on paper or a screen.
Help! I am going to buy an ipad few months from now since I am training myself to digital drawing for business (and as a hobby). I do not know which one is better, ipad 10 or ipad 6 mini? I have been looking to different reviews. I watched this, I even got more confuse to which am I going to buy because it sounds like Ipad 6 mini is really portable but how about its cons and the difference of ipad 10 and 6 mini? 😭😭😭
Although the iPad mini is great, it does have a very small screen. It’s great as a little “sketchbook” but if you’re learning you might find the extra space of the bigger iPad easier to work with.
@@chris-piascik thank you for this, I am going to buy the ipad 10 bcz you're right, big screen helps a lot when you're learningg. Thank you so much for helping me decide!
I’m an illustrator - I’m currently waiting for a courier to deliver my new iPad Mini 6 and my M2 iPad Pro. It’s my 2nd iPad mini as I gave my 1st one to my Mum as her iPad mini 2 stopped working and she needed more than me…….it’s been 2 months and I really really miss the iPad mini. I currently have the 2018 iPad Pro so feel like the new M2 will be a lot better. The 2018 over heats when using Procreate and the battery is getting worn. There’s nothing wrong with having 2 iPads👍👍👍
I bought the ipad mini for the same reason. I'm here to justify my purchase since it's sitting on my nightstand. I just love the size. No. For the satchel thing.
It's small, but because it's so easy and intuitive to zoom in and out I don't find it difficult at all. Even though its the same size as a small sketchbook, it feels so much bigger.

A digital Moleskine, that's what I'm looking for. Thanks!
Greetings.
hello is it still good for sketch until now?
I think so!
omg! this really help me to buy it! I already have a 27" imac & 16" cintiq and I want something I can bring anywhere
Cool! Glad it was helpful!
1. I didn’t know they still made these. Great video.
2. When did you switch from Procreate to Fresco? (Or did you?)
Thanks! I had been using Fresco for a while whenever I needed to do vector art. But I switched to it for most everything around 6 months ago. They’ve updated it so much and it has so many great features. I also love how it fits into my workflow with Photoshop/illustrator.
@@chris-piascik that makes sense. I might need to check it out again.
I have a full video on here talking about the differences and why I prefer Fresco.
Would like to ask, which one prefer able, iPad mini only wifi or with cellular
I stick with Wifi only because if I need the internet I can share the connection from my iphone.
@@chris-piascik thanks bro..
Thank you, for this info review. 😀
Glad it was helpful!
Liked and subscribed. Great info, and amusing. 😂
Awesome, thank you!
Great video! I love my baby iPad!
Thanks! Baby iPad's are the best!
I subscribed because of the bike 🤣....... and your amazing art
haha! Thanks so much!
5 minutes in and I’m entertained 😂. Subscribed 👍🏾
Thanks!
This is so helpful 😂🎉
Thanks!!
Do you have any trouble going from the 120hz display on the iPad pro to the 60hz on the ipad mini? Does it feel slow or laggy when drawing?
I don't really notice any difference drawing on the mini. The screen isn't as good as the Pro, but otherwise it feels the same to me.
I'm more fascinated with the PVC coping on the box
😎
I’m an illustrator - I’m currently waiting for a courier to deliver my new iPad Mini 6 and my M2 iPad Pro. It’s my 2nd iPad mini as I gave my 1st one to my Mum as her iPad mini 2 stopped working and she needed more than me…….it’s been 2 months and I really really miss the iPad mini. I currently have the 2018 iPad Pro so feel like the new M2 will be a lot better. The 2018 over heats when using Procreate and the battery is getting worn. There’s nothing wrong with having 2 iPads👍👍👍
All the iPads!!
Did you get the 64gb or 256gb
I just got the 64gb for this one since it’s not my main device and all my drawing files save to the cloud.
Yes, you do Chris 😅!!!
I bought the ipad mini for the same reason. I'm here to justify my purchase since it's sitting on my nightstand. I just love the size.
No.
For the satchel thing.
Lol. I haven’t used the satchel much, but I’m not willing to give it up completey
Damn... Now i Want to be a satchel person to. So that I have a good reason to buy an Ipad mini. Rally Nice vid
Haha thanks! Satchel’s are a game-changer.
If you are new into the world of drawing is the Ipad mini “good enough” (for amatures/beginners) like me 😊?
The screen is a bit small, but zooming is easy and intuitive. In terms of performance it's had no issue with my biggest Fresco files.
@@chris-piascik Thank you so much🙏🏽
First thing I thought when I saw you, “damn, this guy is such a satchel person”
LOL!
Great review, 100% justified purchase! You iz a financial advisor of sorts… 😂
Lol! Thank you!
Is the mini too small for detailed procreate work ?
It's small, but because it's so easy and intuitive to zoom in and out I don't find it difficult at all. Even though its the same size as a small sketchbook, it feels so much bigger.
I found myself two-finger tapping to undo while drawing with pen and paper... didn't work.
lol it’s the worst!
It’s an amazing tool. And also I’m AuDHD. “My adhd is chronic, my my ‘tism is ionic.”
🙏
you are so charming and funny i love your personality and your art thanks for the great video man!!!
Thank you so much ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Your storefront link does not work.
Weird, it seems to be working for me. Does this one work? www.amazon.com/shop/influencer-7c1d91e2?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_aipsfshop_aipsfinfluencer-7c1d91e2_84AJ9JEX6GPCBT9A5AM0
@@chris-piascik That one works, thanks. I'm on a Windows 10 PC and the tiny one just blinks and nothing happens. Appreciate your quick text.
@@chris-piascik I was looking for your sling bag, but can't find it on your Amazon site. What is the brand name?
@@peaceridge that one didn't come from Amazon, it was from a brand called Hold Fast, but it looks like they're sold out. I do also have this one that is similar, and fits the ipad mini nicely. amzn.to/3YJeJBl
This is the one in the video: holdfastordie.com/collections/accessories/products/hip-pack
why do I feel like I'm listening to my self when I'm justifying a purchase to my wife LOL
Lol
Man if there was an iPad Mini Pro with a slightly bigger 9in 120hz pro-motion tandem oled with the nano etched glass I would be all over it
👍
You are tooo funny man!
hah glad you think so!
Nice restraint passing on the fifth opportunity for the financial-bro animated text.
Thank you for noticing.
I love those 8" 800€ tablet
Y
I dunno.🤷♂️
I was answering the question posed at 4:22 in the format indicated by the question. "Have you ever drawn on paper? Y/N" was the question.
Y, I have, but only once, and never again.
@@chris-piascik
lol! I forgot about that.@@CloudEnglish
Funny story. I accidentally put too much detergent my washer and found my fingers doing a Ctrl Z or a command Z in order to undo and then I realize this is a washing machine and not a computer so I feeling all the pains.
Haha at least it had buttons!
@@chris-piascik as a navy seal once told me “normal is only a setting on your dryer”… feel free to make that a sticker. As long as I get one for my “emotional support water bottle”
Or maybe I’ll do that for your contest.
2:07-2:14 😂😂😂👍
😜
I dont have a ipad pro..just one of my desk to compare size😅😅
I really want that curtain behind you 😩

They’re not called satchels! I call them Murses. I tell people I carry my manpons while I’m manstrating that time of the month. I can’t wait till man-o-pause, no more murse.
Lol
Hearing you talk gave me adhd
Lol, sorry. Imagine what’s it’s like living with this brain.
You are so funny
thxxxxx
yeah that satchel wasnt that cool but i see you rocking one lol
Haha, I guess it's ok. I'm not that cool either.
I gave up on art for years... Now I'm all like "what else am I gonna spend my tax refund on" so now I'm all like "how am I gonna sell this crap I draw this time around anyway?"
Ain't about to burn through another 20 moleskins to just throw away again either.... Eh, it's probably a good idea to get an ipad... Another moleskin gone without making a dime.... Maybe I'll get an ipad finally.... Dead moleskin, threw it in a lake this time to prove a point to this up and coming artist kid....
Oooo painting with bob Ross! Ya know, maybe if I had an ipad instead of this stupid moleskin I'd be able to make some people doing stuff or something for the poor guy.... Moleskin full... Gave it away this time....
Now we're here again... maybe I should get an ipad mini.... Where'd this moleskin come from? How is it full already? Where'd it go?
You look like a straight jacket person😂
Lol
Just got mine in the mail today. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
I love mine too clearly. I ended up getting the Zugu case for mine.
give it to me 😂 and buy a new one, help a poor guy 🙏🏻
Hah!
Subscribed just because of your quirkiness. Not the iPad mini😅
Haha well I like that reason better!
The age of moleskin is directly related to when you skinned it.
Hah!
Its just fits right in.
lol

@@chris-piascik you are not alone…. I bought one this week. :/

What in the actuall fuck is happening in this video I can’t stay focus to what he said with all of those jokes and effects going
Lol, sorry about that. In summary, I think this ipad mini is pretty great.
Of course he rides fixed gear...
Lol, it was actually the first time I was on that thing in years. I was surprised I still had the muscle memory to track stand.
