Not a fair comparison, showing the most beautiful and amazing art with Procreate and then showing the most basic sketching with Sketchbook. Seems kind of biased to me!
I think I have very simple explanation. You might notice that every art shown is by different artist, and Procreate is way more popular than Sketchbook, you will easily find lots of artists that have artworks drawn in Procreate, but you will barely find "good" arts drawn on Sketchbook, simply because of it's popularity. My guess is that the author was glad to find atleast some artworks from Sketchbook!
Wow, that was an unexpected victory. I use Sketchbook and my wife uses procreate. My impressions of procreate are that it has a slightly steeper learning curve but more useful features. both apps definitely work for whatever you need them to do though. It occurs to me that I viewed procreate more positively because my workflow involves a lot of photo editing techniques. It is still illustration but with a little bit of a crutch to help with the limitation of using a cell phone. me and my wife would always compete with each other about our two programs but watching this video made me realize that I am doing the things that procreate is good at with Sketchbook and my wife is doing the things that sketchbook is good at with procreate.
@@goddessmemol7150 It has been a couple years since I had an android but I believe it does have Sketchbook auto desk. Androids tend to have better programs than Apple products so I would be surprised if it was not available
I really dislike the fact that Procreate only cater to iOS devices. There's something smug and amateur about it because they should very easily be able to make it hardware and platform agnostic. It's almost like they're signalling the idea that to make great ("cool") art requires Apple hardware, which of course, is an archaic and now outdated cliche that was the norm 10 years ago.
Exactly. My ipad is first gen and cant use Procreate which I would have gladly bought on my smaller tablet but for some reason it only works on newer version which not everyone can afford. There's definitely something smug and elitist about the choice to only host on ios devices.
I've used Sketchbook for a few years now, and can do anything with it that I can do with traditional paints or inks. And so far, haven't had any bugs or locking up with it. I'm currently using it on a Samsung Tab S8 plus, BTW. ( It's like having an electronic version of the paper sketchbooks that I used for decades. )
where did you learn to sketch and paint ? I an sketch on paper decently but I find it very tough to do it digitally even if im using pen and graphics tablet.
@@thegamingguy3153 - I learned to sketch/paint digitally by simply doing it. It's just a matter of using the same techniques I learned for paper or canvas, and adjusting them where needed. Anyone find the predictable stroke is a bit irritating on Sketchbook sometimes! Haven’t tried procreate yet but from vids I’ve seen it seems way smoother
Yeah, that "trailing dotted line" reminds me of ZBrush's "Lazy Mouse": Effective, but annoying to look at. Clip Studio has an excellent implementation.
I’ve used both, and to me Procreate wins. Sketchbook is nice, but the tools feel like they’re designed for a person that just wants to do art as a hobby. I don’t really like how “fuzzy” the brushes looked on the canvas, but alas I’ve never tried the premium brush pack.
The premium is excellent. And as someone who is using it for 7 years now and have used Procreate too since it blew up. Imo, its the other way around. Sketchbook is for Professionals. Procreate is for hobbyist.
If sketchbook would include paint dropper tool, easier shape creation (like lines and circles), and stabilization on brushes. It would really be a great competition for procreate.
I have to same issue with stabilization. It does have the smoothing function on strokes but it barely does what it needs to making clear lines a hassle. But I’m still a beginner, so that might be my lack of experience idk
I used Autodesk Sketchbook since 2017 on my laptop before I switched to Procreate on my iPad last 2023. Sketchbook, in my opinion, is a good and free digital art software for beginners but the limitations are the stabilization and less features who wanted to try digital art while Procreate is also great in terms of features and it is one-time payment, meaning it was worth it unlike Adobe Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint, which you will pay per month or a year but the limitations is that it is only available on iPad devices, which is expensive.
iOS users will say PC is better cause it’s not on Android devices, while Android users can’t test procreate so their opinion is irrelevant really. Sketchbook is pretty much as powerful as PC; it’s even more versatile since you can continue your proyects on other platforms like Windows or Macs.
The narrator does an excellent job of comparing these two programs. I've used Procreate, though not to any great extent. I haven't used Sketchbook, but thanks to this video I'll be giving it a try. I'll add only one thing: I'm sorry to say it, but the narrator's vocal fry is difficult to listen to. After a while I started wanting to clear my own throat. I wish there were a voice filter that would let us change the sound of a narrator's voice. Maybe that will be a future AI feature.

I was searching for a video that could possibly point out what is "wrong" with Sketchbook and why it is not recommended more often. I personally have not experienced any of the issues mentioned with it. I will go with Sketchbook since I already work on Android and I don't really need another tablet atm.
I think the only tha matters when choosing a drawing software for the Ipad is your knowledge of the art fundamentals and your skills. Because they will make the most impact on the art you create on canvas on the ipad.
