Hi Elena, I’m so glad you are talking about this art themes and It’s a great introduction to know this information. I have been doing art since 2020 and what I struggle the most is that I overthink the things that I want to create and end up frustrated with the results. Do you have any advice when it comes to improving your art without beating yourself up?
Hi there! Just try to focus more on the process of drawing than the outcome! Instead of thinking about the final result all the time try to enjoy the journey of experimenting and creating. Maybe it could even help if you start some drawings without the intention to ever finish it but rather to learn a new technique!🙂♥️ hope this helps a bit and don’t compare yourself to other artists ! Compare yourself with your older self !
You're terrific! I nearly wasted a lot of money on a new tablet until you made me think of my phone & for my art the phone is fine. Have a cracking 2024 God bless & all the best!
I've been doing research since I am interested in Digital Art. I'm used to just painting/drawing/doing small cardboard builds. Thankbyou SO MUCH! I had NO IDEA where to start for a program to use.
12,9" iPad Pro and Procreate is by far the most satisfying experience. So much smoother than working on a pen display connected to your laptop. If you're on a tight budget, make sure to buy an older used iPad Pro. Everything from 2018 version works great. 128-256 GB space should be enough for most cases.
@@ginocrute Yeah, possibly. If all you do is just using procreate. iPad OS and System Data is already taking 20 GB. Then you maybe got RUclips (3-4 GB), Netflix (2 GB) and some importet photos and other apps. So you're left with 25-30 GB for your procreate files. I would say it's possible to work on the 64 GB model if your singulary focus is procreate and nothing else. In any other case I would go for the 128 GB model. A complex painting with a slightly higher resolution of 4500 x 3000 px (45 layers) can easily take up to 1 GB of storage space. While a a simple low resolution sketch at screen resolution (2732 x 2048) takes around 30-50 MB, if you add shades of colors to it with around 20 layers it already takes around 120-150 MB of storage space. Thus, your 25 GB will allow your wife to storage 25 complex paintings (moderate resolution) or around 150-200 colored sketches (low resolution).
For most people an iPad with the Apple Pencil 2 and procreate is the best way to go. I started with a Wacom tablet and there was all kind of issues. The proportions of my monitor were off and kept resulting in diagonal lines instead of straight. looking at one screen while drawing on a different surface was counterintuitive. There was also software driver issues. It was a big learning curve that I found hard to go back to at the beginning stage. Also you need a computer and an adobe software subscription or equivalent.. Procreate costs 10 bucks and is amazing.
Thank you for putting this video up, i tried 3 years ago on those cheaper ones that you cant see your lines, assumed it was me being a techno failure. So thanks to your video ive now downloaded sketchpad on my mobile: so fun and easy ❤
Honestly, you'd be the first-ever youtuber I came across with an amazing beginning. Your entire presentation was well shown with quality content and editing. Looking for more like this. Hands off of such amazing efforts from the start.🌷👍
Thank you for this short and informative video! You've reassured me that I don't currently need things I can't afford yet. Right now I'm using the free version of Sketchbook Pro on my phone - I have found this software the best out of all the pixel art apps, and I have tried EVERY app I could in search of a comfortable drawing experience. I think my next step (once I have improved both my art and my income) is to buy a multi-purpose tablet with stylus and the premium version of Sketchbook Pro. My main challenge on my phone is not the software or my skill, it is the Fat Finger problem (yes, even with skinny fingers), I can hardly see where I'm drawing and have to zoom in one million percent to get an accurate line. So a nice pointy stylus will probably help me to get the work done faster too. Your art is also so pretty, tons of inspiration there too. I think I see 30% similarity between our drawing styles, so maybe I enjoy the mild feeling of familiarity - my people are a lot stiffer though, like wooden humans, haha.
My husband gifted me a huion kamvas and I was here to look for the best app to use 🥰 I am a traditional artist who only use sketchbook in phone and 3d softwares related to my profession but I am really new to digital drawing per sé. Your video is very helpful, thank you ❤️💯
Basically every youtuber and all have created a mindset for beginners artist that the ipad and procreate is the ultimate goal whereas there are many other portable tablets from other brands aswell which are very good for digital art.
For not so heavy industrial art or animation, i recommend the Samsung Galaxy tab S series, and they come with their own stylus and are equally as powerful as the iPads Krita, Autodesk, ibis paint, infinite painter, Clip studio paint for Digital Drawings and Paintings Flipa Clip, Clip studio paint, Krita, Rough Animator for animations Kine master, Capcut, Power director, for video editing. And you can get almost all these apps for free. There are many more options out there, but these are the ones i use
I started out because of free time during lockdown. XP-Pen deco 01 V2 is the first pen tablet I've ever own and had served well. Also used Krita exclusive because I was still learning and it is really has almost everything needed for beginner to dabble in and for pro to work with it and still it is completely FREE. Just recently got my own Ipad and the convenience + drawing on display I don't think I could go back to doing art on the old pen tablet but what I learned still applicable and there's value in gaining those experience.
I have the S23 Ultra! I'm a longtime Note fan, I was so disappointed when they didn't announce a new one in 2021. But they just merged them into the flagship.
Thank you for sharing❤. This was very helpful. My husband has been an illustrator for more than 11 years. He used a tablet connected to his pc before. He suffered a massive stroke last year and is paralyzed on his left side. I want to get him to start creating again but he needs something more portable. Wasn't sure what to get him but now i think iPad pro would be the best option.
Youre very welcome I hope you can bring him to draw again , pretty sure it would make him happy (: all the best wishes for him ! and yes you probably cant go wrong with an ipad pro its the most portable solution in my opinion. and if youre on a budget check the air models theyre good too !
I would really recommend these open source softwares for editing your art and also digital art: GIMP and Krita. GIMP is basically the free Photoshop that does most of the things Photoshop can do, and it's very versatile and flexible. Krita is also free and great for editing, digital animation and drawing.
For me the best thing is a good PC, photoshop, wacom intuos (I bought it for 80 euros 3 years ago, I think its cheaper now) and a good scanner. I draw my images on an A4, then scan it and I do the colouring in photoshop. The combination free style and digital looks the right thing... like a good fiction movie with less CGI!
I personally have used a Fujitsu stylistic q704 for years as a sketching tablet. It's a tablet that has a couple of different optional keyboard docks. One that's just a keyboard, and one that has a bunch of ports and is also an expanded battery. It uses a wacom EMR digitizer as well as a touch screen. They are not the fastest computers ever that is true. But it's plenty enough to run something like a windows 11 lite or Ghost Spectre install and a handful of useful apps for graphics design an or photo manipulation.
I'm just getting into digital art. I have watched quite a few videos on the subject the last few months and I have to say your video is one of my favorites. Your editing and delivery are great. Then I find out that this is your first video...wow. Now I just need an Ipad Pro, and then I will be unstoppable. Dang, but now I also want a German with an adorable accent.
My first digital art (other than gimp photo edits in 2008) was on my iPhone 6 with one of those pens that have a rubber stylus tip on the end! I used procreate pocket and with those brushes was getting compliments on my line work
Great video - really professional. What I really like is that you present tools from those for really entry level - to those more advanced. You do not boast and pretend someone "PRO" while explaining what to use - what to chose. You do not suggest most expensive and "recent" gadgets. I think that makes your video much more "pro" and true - at least for guy like me. I am not an artist (unfortunatelly however I still enjoy "playing" with digital art stuff. Therefore I really enjoyed this video.
Thank you! I do wonder if some new artists might really benefit from drawing on paper with a pencil, then scanning or photographing their work, then digitally drawing over their work on a new layer in their art application. @@butterflyj685 There are things you can do with digital art (created with a tablet & pen) that you can't do with scanned art. Thank you very much for your suggestion, bc now i can make a better decision to get some equipment to start digital drawing. Keep going on your channel. Best regard from me ☺️
also to those who may not want an ipad but still want a tablet, samsung s series tablets are also really good for drawing. the cheapest s6 lite 2022 can be found for around the same price as the cheap display drawing tablets mentioned (200-300$). Ipads can easily be expensive in some countries so it's not the only option for portable digital art
Hi so I am currently using Samsung a7 tab for almost 3yrs now. And now I want to try some digital art, so can I use this tab only? And any suggestions for pen?
Wow, really impressed with your video quality and editing. So good!! Not to mention so much useful information! Wishing you all the RUclips success and can’t wait to see your future videos ❤️❤️
Upgraded my 2 in 1, to: 4K & 9i, w/16gigs of DDR5 RAM. Loaded Manga studio 5/Clip Art, plus Photoshop 6, both licensed. But the real beauty in my Touch screen with a rechargeable pen is: WACOM TABLET licensed within! Beauty in the Beast, just rocks!! My other one aged out, after 7 years. I'm having cake and pie!
Yes, photoshop is really overwhelming for someone that quits using it in her teens and now in her 30s. Thank you for the other suggestions, I start navigating the LED Tracing Pads and then digitize the resulted art to be able to edit them
Been practicing digital art for almost 20 years now. First on a pc running Photo Impact (with only a mouse at my disposal), then I turned Photoshop with a Wacom (bamboo, later intuos pro) tablet. I am really curious how a tablet would work out, but also a bit frightened that I lost some of my skills (the last years I only painted when designing my kids birth announcements).. Really nice of you to share some of your experiences in this field🙏🏻 I will look into it📱🖋️
This was really helpful! I actually found a deal on the XP Pen tablet ($231.08 after shipping and taxes), but in the 15.6" size, and decided to buy it right away. I was looking at iPads and Samsung tablets, but they're all expensive and I'm not sure if I'll get into this hobby or not, so the drawing tablet sounds perfect for me. I wasn't planning on buying until I saw that deal, so now I need to watch your video again for what software I should get :) I know this video is older, but the Concepts software looks interesting. my iPad is 12 years old, so I was already planning on buying a new iPad soon, so it will be nice to try drawing on there. I'm looking at getting the rumored 12.9" iPad Air coming in May.
I think you made a good choice witht he xppen deal ! And yes actually I was planning to buy the rumored ipad air 12.9 too ! But then the release got delayed 2 months and I need to buy one NOW ;(
This video is very helpful, thank you so much! I'm just about to start my digital art journey because it's a required skill in fine arts program so thank you so much for this infos ❤
I am gonna get a tablet with display from the get-go, I cannot stand using my finger to draw. I used to draw way back, and wanted to get back into it, but using digital this time around, if I find out it is not for me, I am gonna gift it to my niece that loves to draw. So either way it is a win imho. Thanks for the video, I have no idea what to get going into this, and this gave some pointers, especially on the software side. Only thing I am wondering about is side stuff, like do I need a glove when drawing? Seems handy.
Thank you, this is really helpful. I won a Wacom Cintiq 16 at work and I still need advice on how to get started with it and digital art in general. Looking forward to more advice from you in the future, great job.
When it comes to the phone, no other phone beats the Samsung Ultra line. I have used my S22 Ultra for high quality notes more so than drawing but the tracking and latency are really great.
For processors: latest generation matters more than the number - as a rule of thumb when given a choice between latest (or 1-year) old i3 and 4 year old i5 - choose the former without hesitation. Also, latest means 11th to 13th gen for Intel and Ryzen-series for AMD. Do not worry too much about the exact model number - they are super confusing - consult a geek friend or follow the thumb rule above. Just, FYI - AMD is to Intel what XPPen is to Wacom (great performance at approx. half the price). E.g. i5 running in a Lenovo Thinkpad T440 laptop will perform less compared to an i3 111G4 running on Asus X515 - also it is only 15W max (i.e. consumes less power, so more battery life and better for planet). Generation matters especially (can't stress this enough) if you don't have dedicated graphics cards - UHD630 which is built into most recent intel processors can support three 4K monitors at the same time - not to mention better video playback
My advice for using Linux is this: Huion is really the only brand that has good drivers, and even then I still had to make some custom tools and such. If you use CSP like me windows/mac is probably the only option as Linux can’t access your license.
You could also get a galaxy tab with s pen. It’s awesome with sketchbook. Clip studio also works well. Cheaper than an iPad and comes included with stylus.
There aren't really problems with most tablets on linux. The connection is the same, and the wacom driver is fine. Maybe better than windows. You can even run it off your phone (with Krits or others)
Finally! Thank you! I am a graphic/fashion designer and I am searching for a new pen mouse as I have a Wacom from over 30 years ago. It still works and I use it but I wanted to upgrade and I didn’t understand how the display ones worked. (Haven’t been keeping up with pen mouse technology. 😬) Mine is the one that you can’t see on the mouse pad and you have to look up at your computer display like the Wacom Intuos, as this was the only available option that existed 30 years ago.😫 Do I connect it to a computer? Does it connect using Wi-Fi? How does it show the program/application I’m using on the pen display? Etc. so I’ve been watching numerous videos and after 2 hours of watching other videos you are literally the only reviewer who explained it needed to be connected to a computer. I now understand thanks to you. ❤ Fyi..I have an iPad with an apple pen and use that too but need this for my lapto/desktop computer I use for work while using Adobe programs. Keep up the good work! Can’t believe this is your first video! Amazing!

Thank you for taking the time Victoria!!☺️♥️
krita is available on android as well ... pretty much 1:1 to desktop version.
Thank you for sharing the information . I was thinking of starting digital art, this video gave me head started
im very happy this gave you the neccessary motivation to get started !
Hi Elena! Thank u so much for the vid! I can't wait to start drawing on my i-pad! Again thank u!❤
You are so welcome!
Thank you very much for your suggestion, bc now i can make a better decision to get some equipment to start digital drawing. Keep going on your channel. Best regard from me ☺️
Thank You ever so much !
moonths ago this vlog gave me ideas about digital drawing ... 2 days ago i brought my procreate and my apple pencil will arrive today .💕💕💕
pleaaaase let me know how it worked for you !! (:
I use a XPPen Artist 16 2nd Gen. Totally enjoy it. Bought a second smaller one for when I'm on the go (makes it easier to carry along)
also to those who may not want an ipad but still want a tablet, samsung s series tablets are also really good for drawing. the cheapest s6 lite 2022 can be found for around the same price as the cheap display drawing tablets mentioned (200-300$). Ipads can easily be expensive in some countries so it's not the only option for portable digital art
thank you for your infos and sharing your experience !
Hi so I am currently using Samsung a7 tab for almost 3yrs now. And now I want to try some digital art, so can I use this tab only? And any suggestions for pen?
Toller Einstieg! 🎉 Ich bin gespannt auf deine weiteren Videos. ❤
herzlichen Dank Kalaida !!!🥰
This was just what I needed, thanks for the helpful tips.
Thank you, I don't know what I'm doing and my daughter wanted one of these! You helped so much, I bought one of your suggestions...thank you. 🙏
aw my so glad this was helping you and your little one (:
Wow, really impressed with your video quality and editing. So good!! Not to mention so much useful information! Wishing you all the RUclips success and can’t wait to see your future videos ❤️❤️
Oh holy 🥹 thank you so much Amanda !♥️
@@fjordwind you’re welcome 🥰
Hello, Elena. Krita has an Android version now.
Excellent video and tips
Thank you for all your information! Looking into what I need to get started.
Upgraded my 2 in 1, to: 4K & 9i, w/16gigs of DDR5 RAM. Loaded Manga studio 5/Clip Art, plus Photoshop 6, both licensed. But the real beauty in my Touch screen with a rechargeable pen is:
WACOM TABLET licensed within!
Really nice of you to share some of your experiences in this field🙏🏻 I will look into it📱🖋️
I immediately pressed like button as soon as i saw the floof with the charger in her mouth❤
Aw my ☺️
This was really helpful!
But then the release got delayed 2 months and I need to buy one NOW ;(
So lovely to see you Elena ❤ Great video! 🎉
aw thank you so much lovely mia !🥰💞
I always learn something new from your videos.
Very happy to read that !
This video is very helpful, thank you so much! I'm just about to start my digital art journey because it's a required skill in fine arts program so thank you so much for this infos ❤
I loved this! I'm excited to watch more of your videos! ❤️
My goodness thank you so much so happy to read this 🥰♥️
Kirita is also available for android tablets
Very underrated channel. Thank you
thank you so very much !!!
Great, clear, encouraging video! Thank you so much.
Very welcome 🙂
Indeed impressive! Thanks so much for the good recommendation!
I started with mobile, bought a redmi pad a month ago, but i still love to use my finger for drawing lol
😍 amazing tips you educated this baby very well. I will keep it in mind 😄🙏🏽
happy you like the video ! (:
Thank you, I recommended your videos to my gf, she is an artist and wants to move to digital arts.
I'm really excited to see you grow kn RUclips! Tysm for the tips elenaa ♡♡

Can't believe it's your first video. You did a really good job. Video was really helpful. (And you are really beautiful 😍)
awwww thank youuu ((:
Lovely suggestion … thanks
The Samsung Stylus is basically a Wacom stylus! Apple and Samsung are doing the job very well it’s just what you prefer in software.
Thank you, this is really helpful. I won a Wacom Cintiq 16 at work and I still need advice on how to get started with it and digital art in general. Looking forward to more advice from you in the future, great job.
I‘m very glad you think my content is helpful ! For sure there will be more tutorials in near future !
thanks to your advice for free aps drawing and now im learning with procreate
Thank you so much! NEEDED IT so much!!!
You're so welcome!
When it comes to the phone, no other phone beats the Samsung Ultra line. I have used my S22 Ultra for high quality notes more so than drawing but the tracking and latency are really great.
You got my like with your cute dog but this was a great and very helpful video! Thank you
Hi Elena, nice Video. Thank you for your input.
Krita is also available for Android-Tablets tough.
Thank you for sharing your detailed knowledge with us !
My advice for using Linux is this: Huion is really the only brand that has good drivers, and even then I still had to make some custom tools and such. If you use CSP like me windows/mac is probably the only option as Linux can’t access your license.
I just bought a deco mini7 today and it's really nice to use
Oh great to hear that and Thanks for sharing your experience with us !
You could also get a galaxy tab with s pen. It’s awesome with sketchbook. Clip studio also works well. Cheaper than an iPad and comes included with stylus.
Such a helpful video ❤❤
Hello, I use Krita and I draw once in a while on my pc. Tho, I gotta say, these drawing tablets look a lot more fun to draw with.
I can imagine it must be very difficult to draw with a computer mouse !
Hey, one of the best first videos I have ever seen. We need more......
Thank you ! There will be more ! Posting weekly ! 🤗♥️
So professionell ich liebs! Bin ganz stolz auf dich Enchen ♥️🤓
Vielen lieben Dank Nin ☺️🧡
Really excited for that you started your youtube journey🎉
Awww thank you I‘m so excited myself ! 🙈♥️
There aren't really problems with most tablets on linux. The connection is the same, and the wacom driver is fine. Maybe better than windows.
You can even run it off your phone (with Krits or others)
Such a lovely and informative video! great stuff! :)
Thank you so much ! ☺️
Thank you! Fantastic short and to the point video
Glad it was helpful! (:
Finally! Amazing!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment ! I'm really happy that this video was so helping for you 🥰 i totally get your point that You want to be able to use adobe beside the ipad prgrams ! hope you find the right tablet for your work !
Super useful. Can you do a video on your art journey and how you practiced, how many hours roughly etc
Thanks for the idea! 🙂
This is a great video!! You get straight to the point and share very valuable knowledge. Cant wait to see some drawing turorials in the future!
Thank you this means a lot 💕☺
Wow, this was an amazing first video! I’ve watched a few on digital art and this is the best one hands down! Thank you! So very informative! You are appreciated! ❤🫶🏽
thank you thank you thank you !! :))
I am an amateur, well not yet, I have bought a xp pen 15 with a wheels for handbruch and everything, today I still very bad but considère to take class. I start to think have a iPad Air 5 with pencil on procreate. As the Xperia drawing tablette have such a load of cable, and take age to start what would you say to someone who want to invest seriously in drawing, I work in Krista atm very powerful but so overwhelming ! So powerful for a beguines
I think you cant go wrong with that ipad air and procreate if you dont like the cable stuff of the xppen !
@fjordwind thanks for your answers. Not that it ll make me suddenly draw but I ll take class and work hard. What ever the medium is if I don't learn I ll never be able I am 45 I still have a bit of time to master it. Thank you. Merry xmass
The video looks very professional. A a very good job for your first video 👍🏻
Thank you thank you thank you 🙃!!!
You are so important, know that 👊🏾👊🏾
Advising people to start on the phone to see if they like it. It's like asking someone to drive a nearly broke down 88 Buick Skylark to see if they like driving fast
Hello Madam, thank you very much for your suggestions on drawing apps especially for PCs. I have bought a graphic tablet ( without display) recently and was not able to choose the right app. I will definitely try the free app available for my windows PC. I feel very happy to know that a scientist like you loves art. Thanks again. 😊
Hello you're the sweetest ! thank you for this comment 😊
Wonderful video! I’m so happy you started a RUclips channel ❤️❤️❤️
aw thank you so much I#M glad you like it !!😘

This video is perfect! All the info I need, clear, and time stamped to go back to easily.
Do you have a recommendation for minimum memory when going for a refurbished iPad?
Thanks!

Very welcome ! 🤗
