I was worried about going from a Pro model to an Air because the screen movements aren’t as fluid, and I will say, sometimes I notice weird lags in Procreate when switching layers and brushes, but considering my old pro will stop receiving software updates, and I didn’t have a lot of extra money laying around to splurge on another Pro model, I am very happy with my 13” Air. This 🎉is by far the best video i have seen about the Ipad differences. So much information without it become confusing. Thank you so much for posting this content!
Psh, you've got them! The work on your channel is great. :) But if it's helpful, I've got lots of videos on building those art skills on my channel, like this video: ruclips.net/video/Zh8lmNvz8ug/видео.html
Omg you made this video just in time for Black Friday! Such a big decision with the cost and life span considered, it's actually hard to know which one to pick! You're last video made me aware of the layer limit, SUPER important. I hope to do simple background art or simple animations as an entry level animator, thank you!
Brooke, I have been scouring the internet for weeks for iPad reviews and recommendations for artists. Thank God I've came across your videos! I've watched so many videos about the colors the iPads come in 🥲 Thank you for being so detailed about the information that actually matters to an artist.
I have a 10th Gen iPad 10.9" 64Gb and you get 19 layers at 16"x16" 300dpi on Procreate (not 7 which this video suggests). When you factor in the gen 1vs2 pencil and the current 20% discounts most retails have at the moment its way lees than half the cost of an entry level iPad Air.
Thank you I think I will he getting the iPad 10th you can get a new one for £330 and I want to get back in to art and knowing you can get 19 layers is probably more than enough
@@lukewalker3 That's helpful to know . I have no experience with digital art or any of these devices ( my ancient iPad is 2011 which i only use for kindle now ) but i'm looking for an affordable device to expand my basic art techniques . £350 for an iPad sounds really cheap and the iPad 10th sounds like it might be just what i need, can i use Procreate with that and can you recommend anywhere for me to find one at that price or thereabouts ?
Do you recommend the ipad air 5th M1 or the ipad 6th M2? Do the prices make a big difference? I've been thinking about it for weeks and i can't decide😭🙏🙏
Thanks for this! I've been using a first gen pro for evvvvvvvaaaaah! Just ordered an AIR,, working on my 4th kids book and will be delighted with the new pencil. I truly appreciate you and your channel!
although i agree with everything theres a slight mistake(?) new pro's screen isnt just brighter, it also has better colors that pop more vibrantly compared to the air models! i can assure you that screen makes a huge difference when you look at then side by side but ofc its not a need! ipad lcd screens are already great so if you like the screen quality as it is no need to choose the pro instead of the air!
Turns out that the 12.9 and the 13 inch iPads have the exact same screen size. They just decided to round up on the newer ones even though they aren’t any bigger.
Hi Brooke, I am totally new to art and have never downloaded Procreate. I also don’t know how to draw anything digitally or otherwise. But after becoming aware of Procreate this year, I might buy an Apple Pencil depending on how Christmas turns out. I currently own an iPad Pro 11-inch (2018, 512 GB). Thank you for this video!
Just so anyone knows. I've been watching a number of reviews and it sounds like the nano screen doesn't actually make a ton of difference when it comes to how the screen feels when drawing.
I have just bought the 13" Pro M4 though have yet to unbox it, and am so disgusted at how much I spent, I'm considering exchanging for the 13" Air. Do you find 120Hz helps with painting? If overheating is a real issue then that might tip me over
I can't seem to find where the Ipad Air mentions grading of 1-4. Is that in reference to the chip? I am seeing a lot of M2's, so I don't think that is it.
Yeah, the nano textured ipad is like 3k$ CAD. So the paperlike screen protector instead. I wish I could afford it though. As of now, I’m very satisfied with my 256gb ipad pro 13" with the new pencil. I don’t know what I’ll do with my air 5 though. And I hate the tempered glass for drawing. It feels like I’m drawing on a slippery surface. I come from a pen and display tablet, but graphic tablets have the same texture as the pen and display ones. And what I loved about the pen and display tablets was the hover feature. On another note, both graphics and pen and display tablets use EMR technology. And their stylus are battery free. Though, they need a computer to work on. The negative aspect of the apple pencil is the tip. It’s thick compared to a graphic tablet’s stylus. Which is just a tiny plastic tip. If they can make one a bit smaller and not in metal, I’d greatly appreciate it. So far, I’m in love with my new ipad pro 13" 256gb (only one I could afford). And I had my eyes at the pencil pro ever since I heard rumors of it on Reddit. I was like : "I’m fine with my ipad air at the moment." I changed my mimd very quickly because the hover feature isn’t on any other models than the pros! That’s a feature I missed from graphic tablets on my ipad air 5. The Apple pencil works on a bluetooth and radio signal technology. Not sure if it has a name for it. And I mainly draw, but practice animation, so I back my files up on icloud or one drive. Omg! I wrote an essay! It’s good to have multiple experience and opinion shared online. It makes it a better place. This video is awsome for choosing the right ipad.
I've been waiting for this, thanks! I'm sticking with the Air 2024 13 inch, but I'm now going for 256 GB storage instead of 128. Would you recommend getting a cover for the iPad? I don't see them in your videos. I want to protect my precious, but I also don't want it to overheat.
I always have a case for my iPad, because it helps me prop it in different positions so I can draw more comfortably. I haven't heard of an overheating issues with the Air.
Your video is amazing! Thank you! I'm a tattoo artist intending to buy a tablet, but I'm a Samsung user. Even so, your content was really nice to watch and I'm a subscriber now ❤ Your art is beautiful
How do you get so many layers from the Mini 7? I made a comparison in the store and with 7000px for the vertical length I‘ve got 26 layers with the new iPad Air and only 12 layers with the new iPad Mini 7.
The Apple store iPads have DEMO versions of the Procreate app, so unfortunately it's not gonna be 100% accurate to how the real app works - including layer limits.
I’ve always wanted a bigger screen to draw and animate on, I’ve been using my iPhone 11 and my finger and it’s bearable but annoying.. so I decided to look into iPads! I thought the 10th generation would be good for me, since it’s my first iPad, but I got an Apple Pencil 2nd generation for Christmas (along with my sisters since they both have iPads) and I definitely like the wireless charging on it, so I don’t want to return it. Luckily, I’ve decided that the iPad Air 2024 11” is the best for me! :)
Does 60 hz make a big difference in drawing result? Im planning to buy my first ipad for my digital arts and the most suitable option for me in budget is air 2024 11" but i read many people say 60hz makes the experience laggy and didnt really worth it for the prize and 120hz is better so i should just get the pro 5 11" but is it really that worth it?
Just ordered an ipad air m2 11" on black friday sale. I hope 11" is good enough for a procreate beginner like me. I value portability much since i can bring it to work. Will 11" good enough for procreate?

And yet, it was an amazing tool when it came out! You can make incredible art on ANY tool. Just because it's not the best option if you're looking to purchase today (many years after that iPad came out), doesn't mean you can't make amazing art on it now.
@@_aPaladin I was worried about that too, cuz I’m pretty hard on my stuff. But I’ve had it for many months so far and it hasn’t needed any special care. I have not watched this video, but I am very confused as to why this video was even made as the BEST iPad for Art programs is the best iPad, the M4 iPad Pro 13". The 11" model is equally great for people on more of a budget or who find the 13" model too cumbersome, but for the best experience when using Procreate or other art apps, the better processor of the M4 iPad Pro means faster rendering and less lag and the real estate of the 13" is easier to work with needing less zooming in and out. Also I believe you need to have the iPad Pro in order to use the newer Pencil Pro with its upgraded features.
