I recently bought a slingbag / fanny pack, shoulder bag for events and occasional travels. The necessities in one bag makes it worth it. I can tell that I will be shifting to this from a regular travel bag which sometimes weighs both shoulders down when I am walking or standing all day. Thanks for continuing to share your experiences with minimalism and frugal living!
Parabéns Nick! You might need new slippers soon or at least more socks in the near future/Christmas but everything else seems to be holding up well. Most useful items owned for a long time. No particular order: 1, Asus Laptop owned for 12 years. 2. IPod owned for 6 years. 2. Workout equipment owned for 17 years. 3. Swiss gear backpack owned since 2009. 4. Water bottle owned for 4 years going on 5. 5. A landline phone 2 decades old. (No need for cell phone yet). 7. Office desk owned for almost 2 decades. 8. Clothes. With exception of under clothes, I only replace clothes every 5-7 years.
@@NicholasGarofola Thank you but I Idon't really have a home gym. I just keep workout equipment under my bed and have 'cherry picked' different exercises from the internet over the years developing a personal routine.
I have a good basic classic wardrobe of clothes that I bought back in the 1990s. I wear these clothes on a daily basis, I've been asked where I get my vintage clothing😂 and yes I have penny loafers that have been resoled four or five times.
I find that the toes of my boots tend to wear down. I would have my nicer shoes resoled, but the shoe itself has fabric or leather missing, by the time the sole would need addressed. Purses, too, I know you can take to a shoe repair place, but each time, by the time the handle or any other piece that could be repaired gets worn down, there are parts of the bag itself that are torn and worn in ways that do not appear easy to replace or repair. Is it still worth taking these things in? Is there something I can treat my shoes with, so they don't wear as quickly? With leather, I do use leather polish or conditioner twice a season, but I try not to buy those anymore. It is difficult to find a solid pair of boots that are made with synthetic materials.
if you get a water bottle, I recommend one with a rubber bottom. that stops it from sliding/slipping on desks, and also helps to protect against dents if you drop it. I've had metal-bottomed water bottles that were dented from drops to the point where it no longer stands level, making it unusable for desk use anymore.
Thing's I've had for more than 5 year's. 1. A back scratcher, use daily 2. My cellphone is a oldie but still going strong from 2018 3. My travel pillow is a smaller version of a regular pillow not a neck pillow and I sleep with it every night. 4. My lounging t shirt is probably 20 year's old but so comfortable 5. My teddy bear that I've had since birth so 48 year's. 6. I've had the same kitchen knife for around 30 year's, still going strong with a little sharpening from time to time.
I had the following items for several years : 1. Apple Watch SE for over 4 years and planning on keeping it until it stops working. 2. Good but cheap sunglasses for about $70- lasted over 8 years and recently needed to replace them as I lost them 😢 3. Good quality smart leather shoes, over 8 years now. 4. iPad 6th gen, I think for about 6 years now. 5. Multiple items of clothing, some go as far as 10 year. My only weakness is my smartphone, which I upgrade every 1-2 years. My older ones are usually passed down to family so at least someone else is using them for longer!
I have had my Breville Barista Espresso machine for about 7 or 8 years now. I have used it literally every single day (sometimes multiple times a day), and it still runs like a champ! Its part of my morning routine and I cannot imagine life without it haha
I have a pair of platform high heels that I've owned since middle school. I've had a few other high heels over the years, but keep coming back to the 1 pair because I've never found a pair I like as much or more, and they still somehow fit me. I've had the heels about 14 or 15 years. Occasionally, I'll take them to a shoe cobbler when they need repairs.
Something I've had for a really long time is my razor handle. My sister got me a Gillette Fusion shaving kit when I was like 13 or 14 for Christmas (I think), and I still use the handle and toiletry bag to this day. The bag has seen better days, but the handle is metal so it's perfectly fine. I'm 31 now. I generally keep things for a pretty long time, like the shirt I'm wearing right now, I bought at a Protest The Hero show in 2015. However the graphic was applied, it's held up super well, it's not the type of print that starts to crack and flake off. It's surprising how long some things stick around.
I also have a multitool and a small MagLite flashlight that live in the glove compartment of my truck. I've had both of these for several years. My black zip up hoodie that I've owned for a very long time. It goes everywhere with me for at least three seasons a year. I can't wear it in extreme heat or cold, but it is very useful in most other types of weather. I'm sure there are a few other things around the house that I've used for a long time but have become so routine that I can't think what they are at the moment. Thanks for another great and thought provoking video.
One thing I have used for about 5-6 years is a metal beer bottle opener that is also a coaster for drinks and has a magnet on the back so it can be put on the fridge when not in use. Honestly it's one of the most useful and thoughtful gifts I've ever received as I'll never have to buy coasters that will clutter my coffee table or a bottle opener which will just be wasted space in my kitchen draw and because it's solid metal, it'll never break.
My Casio Illuminator watch has been running for 11+ years. Replaced battery once. And my Swiss Army Knife, which my dad gifted, is hitting 10 years next year. These 2 items are what inspired me to go for quality items instead of cheap.
Things ive had for years. my $10 unbranded coffee maker and my cold brew maker. I think both are going on 4 years now. one or the other gets used most days. its just easy to maintain and i hope they last a long time more. I like that you mentioned house slippers because i also discovered they are nice for hard floor. I use some uniqlo ones that i hand wash when i feel like it. I do think they were not built to last a long time as they are showing signs of wear after 2 or 3 years but i would like to get more of the same one. Most items, I do upgrade over time and sell the old or give it away to friends or donations.
One of the most useful things I own and carry with me every day is a small pocket knife. I have had it for years, use it almost daily for boxes, packaging etc. and it pretty much looks the same as the day I got it. Should last many more years to come. :)
I love this! Even tho I'm not a minimalist really but for almost a year now, I've been trying to better my consumption habits. I've played the mins game last fall and got rid of even more clutter since then and only bought things I really needed and maybe a few treats (since I also moved out during that time. Here's a few things I either already owned for a long time or plan to use for a long time: 1. My whole music setup (vinyl player, cd player, amp, boxes& music collection) 2. My books (this and my music is probably the only thing I could truly never get rid of lol) 3. My kitchenware (almost all of it is secondhand or from when I was a kid, I only have a few new additional bowls for when I host) 4. My everyday backpack (the zipper is broken but I will fix it so it can carry on! XD) 5. My toothbrush (I got a bamboo electric toothbrush a while ago that can be repaired. It also had much less waste since the heads are almost entirely made from bamboo too) 6. My deodorant (it's a refillable stick made from aluminum, called "Wild Deodorant") 7. My razor (it's a single blade safety razor) 8. My weighted blanket (I love this thing so much, I'll take good care of it) 9. My jackets (somehow, almost all of my jackets are now secondhand, thrifted. I love them and I wanna continue wearing them for as long as possible) 10. My phone (I will use this thing until it dies on me xD)
I have so many things that I've had for many years, but seeing I don't have a car, and I walk everywhere, I'd say that my cross body bag gets the most use. I've had it for close to 15 years, and plan on keeping it until it's not usable...which probably won't be ever seeing it's a high quality bag from Fossil that I got for a steal at an outlet. It gets used daily, and seeing I'm a walking commuter, it fits everything I need to take with me everyday.
I’m here for the pauses. I get my partner and show her every time 🤣 Also, your videos are helping me combat my consumerism and I really appreciate that.
The longest things I've had for years are my crocheted blanket. My mum bought it. She died 11 years ago, the blanket is still in good condition and I love it. The other thing is a multicooker. My parents bought a big one and a smaller one was free. This multicooker traveled with me a lot, still works perfectly. It is about 13 years. Las year I bought a victorinox knife with a thought that I want it to be with me for years. And this year I invested in a insulated water bottle and I enjoy it so much in both cold and hot weather.
Recently replaced my laptop - I had used my previous one for 14 years! And two years ago I replaced my phone after using it for 8 years. I've come to realize that I can justify spending a bit more on some things because I know I'll be able to make them last longer than most people do. And as a result, when I'm planning to buy certain things like backpacks, reusable bottles, etc., I'll put more effort into choosing the right product, knowing I'll want to use it for a long, long time.
3:28 I got a satchel for my 32oz hydroflask like that one and it is the best thing I could have gotten it keeps my hand free and helps me not stress about worrying if I left my water bottle somewhere And it makes having a big water bottle like that a lot more easier to bring more places
I’m loving the lion’s mane! Is it a coincidence that everyone was asking about how you cut your own hair last year…and to counteract that, you just stopped doing it? 🤣 you’re playing 4D Chess
I use a pair of Merrell slip on shoes inside the house. Canada is cold in the winter, we have hardwood floors everywhere, and I need more arch support than slippers offer. I’ve had these for at least a dozen years now.
I travel quite a bit for work. I bought a Oakley 55L duffle with backpack straps back in 2015. And I would say it's got a handful of trips left before it starts ripping. I was really hard on my duffle, spending half is life in the back of an uncovered pickup in the South West US/ Mexican desert. I'm sad to throw it away because of the memories associated with it. I just bought a Patagonia black hole duffle because it was on sale a couple months back but I'm too emotionally attached to my old bag 😅
That sounds awesome, and like quite the adventure. I parted with a backpack I had a lot of travel memories with, I found it to be easier when giving it to someone who I know will make good use of it.
Just be careful not to lose these things when moving to new places or building a family. Had a clipper for 12 years before it got lost somehow. Can add some: - High quality drills, usually come with a complete set of tools and a box (so you can notice when something is missing) - Coffee machine can last decades - Belts (cheap ones will do)
There are many items that I've owned and used for many years, but the stand out are my "Engineer Boots". I've had the same pair for over 20 years now. They were $400 at the time, and I've had the soles replaced 2-3 times.
G-shocks are amazing btw. I bought a G5600 Solar with the same mindset as you, one watch that'll go with me wherever I go. I got it 2019 and it's still running perfectly. Solar means it's almost ready for an apocalypse. I truly believe G-shocks are worth every penny.
I recently acquired a GW-M5610U and absolutely love it. Incredibly well engineered, durable, utilitarian, maintenance-free, and flat out reliable as one could ever hope. It will last me a long, long time. No frills, no gimmicks, just a well-made product for a reasonable cost. To know I have the current time on my wrist that is synced daily to the most accurate time source in North America is just a luxurious feeling.

My Vans backpack is nearly 12 years old, used daily and still goes hard.
I've carried the same Victorinox Climber (Swiss Army Knife) for over 15 years and will immediately replace it if I damage it so that I have 1 to carry while the damaged 1 is being fixed with the lifetime warranty. That's how good that thing is for under $40 NOW. I have that in my pocket daily and a Leatherman Surge in my EDC bag. I'll probably never need to replace either of them. I can't recommend either enough.
I still use my iPhone 11 which is 3-4 years already and an Apple Watch series 3 as well. No plans on upgrading until the battery dies or the cost of replacement would convince me to upgrade 😂 I always wait for your uploads. I hope you can make a video about your cat (as a minimalist furr parent) ❤
Do love the video. I'm kind of in-between minimal and maximal . As someone into art , I love finding beauty in owning stuff of kinds as long as your genuinly happy and now buying because of just buying or show off. I feel like buying the right stuff for right things works nice. I do own a bit of more of some kinds , like I love buying tech products. I specially love mid-2010 techs even if it's just for keep-sake. There are times I spend money on things I don't think is about saving perfectly , and there are time I try to do more of buying things that last long. My boredom also plays a huge role in cutting out warranty in few things because I get easily bored sometimes. A break does help me but sometimes life is short that I'm not sure if I should binge minimalist videos or just mix some of them and wacht other topics right , ?.
🕷️ I’ve been teaching my kids to try to make purchases that will last for years to come. Had entrusted my (at the time) 9yo with my Leatherman Micra from 1999. After a year, I asked if it was useful and got one for her to use.
1. portable charger, Anker 10,000 $30, kept in car late night outings & long distance, no charger/outlet within proxmity 2. 2nd the watch & water bottle 3. 1 huge mug for desk
hey nicholas!!! thanks for the cool new video. you (among others) inspired me to start living a more purposeful and intentional life. thank you for your content and your time and take care!
i recommend a silicone bottom for you bottle hyrdoflasks makes them and they will extend the usability of your water bottle for much longer. if you get a black one it would go well with the black asthetic
Love the watch! I bought one and wear it all the time. But man! The fabric material starts to smell soooo bad quickly. I do a monthly rinse with baking soda and let it dry out, then it's as good as new!
Loved the theme around the video! And totally agree with that style. Better use big bucks so it lasts more and have a better experience with it(I have the same bottle :P)
I have a north face bookbag I bought for a trip to cali in 2014 that i still use. The lining is peeling so I would like to replace it. Have had an eye on AER bags. Have a Hershel card wallet I’ve had for a while. I stopped using it for a bit for a MagSafe wallet but I’m back to using the card wallet
Started following the channel since the ipad mini video and up to this day, I get new learnings. Thanks, Nicholas for sharing about minimalism and other practical things. Continue making great content. PS. While watching, I wondered if there would be any sports-related item there like a cap or hoodie from your local sports team. Though I never heard you make previous mention of any local teams you’re interested in. If there are any, would like to see it get featured haha.
Birkenstock slippers - hands down. I have bought a pair of slippers 5+ years ago, and have not bought another pair for home use since. They also do closed slippers and more formal/casual shoes, which I have also purchased recently, and I expect they will last me as well as the slipper has been. They are not cheap, but I know they will last me long. Another place where it's worth spending a bit more to get long term value: the kitchen! Kuhn Rikon knives and frying pans; Bosch brand toaster and kettle (each well over 4 years old now) and a set of stainless steel pots I got from my parents, from a brand called Peterhof. I also have a nostalgic/soft spot for enamelled cookware, so I have a few of these, including a coffee pot that are now 10+ years in the use. And.. last but not least: an old orange Dyson ball hoover, and by old, I mean It was some 8 years old when I got it 10 years ago! Had to change the brush motor twice, but rather a spare part than a whole new hoover! (I got the hoover for free, and the parts were around £50 each, so aprox £100 for the 10 years I've been using it so far, is not bad.) Of course, as with everything, regardless of the quality they promise, they only truly last if you look after them :)
the most life enhancing item on this list is for sure the metal flask. you need water the whole day so why not have great cold water with you all the time? easy choise. had mine 6-7 years, scuffed as hell but im not buying another one
My hydroflask doesn't work the way it should. It doesn't cool my drinks as long as I expected it to be, so I switched to a Tyeso tumblr. That's what I'm using right now.
Hey nich, bug hug from Portugal, can you give me some quick tips on how to save on gas, like go for the cheap One or go for the premium in hopes to not have engine problems on the long Run? Thanks for the help
Water bottle…check Thule bag…check Too expensive to justify Hamilton field watch…not checked yet, looks damn good though! Completely agree, there are some items you could, maybe even should buy only once if you invest in properly, buy cheap buy twice as the saying goes. Great video as always!
Didn't see the cat this time. But another great video :) The water bottle trend nowadays is crazy, people spend too much trying to get the latest ones but they all do the same thing -_-
I just switched to iOS from Android. I decided to get the iPhone 13 Mini. Honestly I get it now why people loves iPhone. The battery on this thing is nothing to be desired for but still I Love it. I just paired it with a High Quality Wireless Powerbank in which I call it a “external battery pack”
They’re not really worth it honestly. I have one, and I use a plastic SmartWater bottle more often. If you’re not familiar with the name, it’s a disposable water bottle, that’s it. They’re made of slightly tougher plastic than the others. They’re near impossible to break. The only thing I use mine for is when I’m carrying hot tea, which plastic isn’t well suited for. I don’t mind room temperature water, so keeping a heavy insulted container makes no sense for me.
It's crazy that it's so normal these days to only use something for a year or so and then replace it even though it works. Great Video!
So true!
Love the pauses they make my day haha. Love the minimalist lifestyle it makes it so much easier to find less stress for your life ❤
Thanks so much!!
I started doing this pause in real life and now my friends think I’m glitching and need a factory reset 😂
😂
If I did the pause, my family would probably yell "WTF is wrong with you." >_

Can add some:
- High quality drills, usually come with a complete set of tools and a box (so you can notice when something is missing)
- Coffee machine can last decades
- Belts (cheap ones will do)
One of my favorite channels
Thanks so much!!
Agreed!! Extremely durable and you’ll absolutely get years out of it
I recently acquired a GW-M5610U and absolutely love it.
😂 I'll show her more in a future video.
1. portable charger, Anker 10,000 $30, kept in car late night outings & long distance, no charger/outlet within proxmity
2. 2nd the watch & water bottle
3. 1 huge mug for desk
hey nicholas!!! thanks for the cool new video. you (among others) inspired me to start living a more purposeful and intentional life. thank you for your content and your time and take care!
Thanks so much!!
i recommend a silicone bottom for you bottle hyrdoflasks makes them and they will extend the usability of your water bottle for much longer. if you get a black one it would go well with the black asthetic
A really good idea
Dude got my chortling with that pause. LOL
😂
Thank you minimalist hozier
Love the watch! I bought one and wear it all the time. But man! The fabric material starts to smell soooo bad quickly. I do a monthly rinse with baking soda and let it dry out, then it's as good as new!
@@josiahpetermann that’s a great idea!! Gotta try it myself
A good question!! It'd have to be something Florida Panthers if I did get anything.
@@NicholasGarofola perfect timing! they just won the championship
(I got the hoover for free, and the parts were around £50 each, so aprox £100 for the 10 years I've been using it so far, is not bad.)
Of course, as with everything, regardless of the quality they promise, they only truly last if you look after them :)
Oh I've heard Birkenstock will last a long time good to hear that!
Having a cactus on the desk is crazy ngl
We should get an updated room tour!
the most life enhancing item on this list is for sure the metal flask. you need water the whole day so why not have great cold water with you all the time? easy choise. had mine 6-7 years, scuffed as hell but im not buying another one
Time stamps in the video would up this quality immensely.
Can you please talk about your minimalist “style”. Mainly the tee shirts or pants that you wear that will last me as long as possible.
My next video is wardrobe related, but not about EXACTLY what I have.. I could do this in a future video!
I see the fractal terra👀 A video on it would be great🫣
Planning on it!
The things are really relatable to me ☺️😇✌🏼❄️
My hydroflask doesn't work the way it should.
Great video! Could you please share which lens you own and use for your recordings? Thanks!
Sony a6500, Sigma 30mm
Hahaha you’re hilarious with the pause… 😂❤️
To be honest - I buy electronics (laptop/tablets/desktop) with the intent of keeping them well beyond there life expectancies!
Also in the list: chair, table, mug and plate
Water bottle…check
Thule bag…check
Too expensive to justify Hamilton field watch…not checked yet, looks damn good though!
Completely agree, there are some items you could, maybe even should buy only once if you invest in properly, buy cheap buy twice as the saying goes.
Great video as always!
Enjoyed this
timex is gem of a grand i own timex mariner for about 8 years now
Your sense of humor!!!!!! 🤓
I'll never give up my g-shock watch. Bought mine in 2016 and it only leaves my arm when I sleep or bathe.
Alternatives for the bag?
@NicholasGarofola-1 ok
Gshock! Very Nice
Thanks!
Hair is looking good
Didn't see the cat this time. But another great video :) The water bottle trend nowadays is crazy, people spend too much trying to get the latest ones but they all do the same thing -_-
Seems like you got a new pc. Can you do the pc setup video?
Soon!
the pause made me cackle, thanks nick 👍🏼
I have the pause on repeat.
Brazil mentioned!
Look into hydroflasks life time warranty for when your bottle no longer works
Good to know!
I saved so much money with clippers. So much. And it cost me 28€
I just switched to iOS from Android. I decided to get the iPhone 13 Mini. Honestly I get it now why people loves iPhone. The battery on this thing is nothing to be desired for but still I Love it. I just paired it with a High Quality Wireless Powerbank in which I call it a “external battery pack”
I'm still using the same bathrobe I got for Christmas when i was 16, I think that was 1990😂
😂
Let me offer you a watch...the Nixon Regulus.
You need a leatherman boss man 🔧
A tip that helped me is "if you can rent it, don't buy it".
Get a leatherman, you won't regret.
Nice content sir
In the subscribe buttons bed.....................
Let's get started 😊
30 years of using clippers for my hair and beard, imagine the amount of money, time and effort saved 🤑🤑🤑
That’s awesome.
Good stuff. I have 8/8 haha
hey Sam! nice to see u here 😁 i also watch ur contents brooo
@@cheeze.7912 hey, dropping a new video soon :)
Thank you Sam!!
The intro made me google brazilian wandering spider- I don't appreciate that:D
Well, what about: mattress, coffee machine, washing machine, toiletry bag or just a good towel - just to name a few things
oh yeah, the brazilian spider
I like how the pauses are getting longer every video lmao
Ive been a minimalist more than half my life...bc i couldn't afford nice things...
🇧🇷🕷️
Love the video
Update # using phone as a minimalism 🙂
2:48, 2 haircuts a month? holy fuck bro
Nice hands
Minimalism = ass stitches and FTL. That was my takeaway 😊
i never understood why you pause for so long after asking us to subscribe but i just got it
Why
Really? Cause I still don’t know 😂
I think is like a signature of the channel, but this time I thought my app was freezing
Nice video. I am laughing a bit at the caption with links because it says 'walter bottle' and now imagine you have named your water bottle "Walter."
hi from brazil ... lol wandering spider
You look troubled. You okay bruh?
I want to buy a hydro flask. But it’s quite costly in my country. 😢
@@blakew5672 thank you for the honest review. We have a brand named Milton in India that is quite popular and does the job. I think I’ll stick to it.😁
My laptop im using now to make this comment. 9 years
