    If you are new to the game start in the green feilds. Alot of more experienced players forget what its like to be new to this game and how overwhelming it can be. So starting somewhere where the resource are limited and space is plentiful, as well as low level mobs is perfect for a new player to get their head around all the systems. As more experienced player its easy to forget that, especially if this is your first logistics game, which for many it will be, it can be alot to get your head around. figering out belt speeds, how much power you need and what the recpie ratios are best ect. Thats why it best to learn about all this stuff with low numbers. You will have to spread out mid game anyway so its not like you are stuck there. Its recommended as the beginner location for a reason.

    The grass fields in Satisfactory aren't that bad and I consider it home, I've been to the rocky desert and most of the other biomes apart from the pink forest. When the grass fields doesn't provide the resources I need it's no big deal, I simply pop over to another biome and belt the resource I want over to the grass fields, problem solved.
    In 650 hours I've put up lots of conveyor belts, if I ever restart Satisfactory I'll probably set up another factory in the grass fields.

    Dont let some guy tell you where to start Greenfields is just as great if not better for a new player. New players dont need only pure nodes to start. New players dont need any oil to start. They need a reason to expand and a reason to spread out and thats the most aparent in the Greenfields. The couple times I started in the Nexus as a new player I never played long enough because I built everything in one place and then got overwhelemed when I actually needed to move. Powertowers are your friend they will make expansion in the early game easy and also dont be afraid to start building trains or roads even if you only have "temporary" factories they wont be as temporary as you might think at first.

    im not sure what you mean by the northern forest isnt used much. its one of the most highly recommended starting locations, so much so that they are nerfing it for 1.0. my favorite starting location is the dune desert. but for my 1.0 save, im going back to the grassy fields. node purity isnt everything, I use the nodes I need to get the amount of resources I want. sometimes, an impure node is better for that. but the biggest reason I am starting in the grassy fields at 1.0 is pure nostalgia

  • @merlinyoder8262
    @merlinyoder8262 Месяц назад +14

    I completely disagree with you. Early game you don’t have good enough belts and miners to really utilize a full pure node anyway and once you do get better belts you can just easily expand to those western pure nodes without needing to tear down your factory to rebuild for your faster belts. Most RUclipsrs trash grass fields but I think it’s perfect for a good start… and it’s much prettier than dune desert. I end up all over the map on my play throughs anyway and would rather leave the pure nodes for my mid to late game factories when I actually need very high quantities of resources.

      Thanks for your comment. Just a slight correction, an MK1 miner on a impure node can only carry 30 items per minute, which is the literally the lowest possible flowrate in the game at 100% efficiency. You can link up 2 impure nodes together to form 60 ipm or add a slag, but like i did mention in the video, you're using double the power when you can just choose a better node in a better location. It makes a HUGE difference regarding Power, Resources needed for constructing extra belts, extra Miners etc. But obviously, you can build where you want, this is just to help new players decide where they might prefer to go. Hope that clears up my point.

      @raichudoggy Месяц назад +6

      Agreed.
      When you start you need "personal use" factories that make the things you use to build other things. Most resources, pretty much all of them, just need a singular 100% Clock speed Constructor / Assembler making it and you're set for life (For concrete I personally needed 2, but only because I like walls). The only inefficiency with using Impures is that it needs marginally more Power because you need more Mk 1 miners for intermediate recipes like rotors and Modular Frames, but the second you have coal power online this extra 20-40MW is trivial. AND when you don't have coal, you can just keep your power grids of Biomass seperated from one another. 1-2 Biomass burners in each factory that you can just let themselves turn off if you don't need Rotors or whatnot right this second.
      The spot in the western Grassy Fields with 7 Impure Iron Nodes is a great place for all of Iron Plates / Rods / Rotors / Modular Frames / Copper Sheets / Wire / Cable in one place. The limestone is somewhat far away but that's an inconvenience I just accept.

    • @merlinyoder8262
      @merlinyoder8262 Месяц назад +1

      @@TheValhallanPickle Yes, thanks for the correction. I try to stay away from impure nodes for the most part at least until I have coal power and then the extra power usage is pretty trivial. I understand where you're coming from but a couple of extra miners is almost nothing if you are placing a hundred other machines for your factories. ...also I might be slightly biased due to nostalgia from my first playthrough in grass fields :)

      I prefer on early game pure and normal nodes, especially for basic resources like iron. I just started (to practice early game before 1.0) in dessert. I am barely 3 hours in game, I passed first two tiers fully, and just established two constructor line from one pure iron node at 100% efficiency for production of reinforced iron plates. 10 per minute. Half of it will go toward production of frames and first elevator component, as I just finished bringing second pure node to factory for rotor production.

    • @CountryAndProud
      @CountryAndProud Месяц назад +1

      @@merlinyoder8262definitely a little biased. My first play started in the rocky desert and loved it. After doing that world I tried to grassy area and hated it. I avoid impure nodes till I have excess power and power shards to make them worth using fully overclocked.

    Rocky Desert is my favourite start location 😃
    Lots of normal and pure nodes allows huge production of basic materials to flood your belts and enough plant materials to get you towards unlocking coal power - automated power is a huge step

  • @aaavellone
    @aaavellone Месяц назад +1

    Dune Dessert is my go to. By the time you need Oil and bauxite you have the explorer or trains or hypertube cannons. The only thing that is far away is bauxite. It totally sucks walking up and down the dunes over and over again in the first few tiers but ultimately worth it as you have more pure nodes and I feel like it's easier to get only one or two mid-sized factories that give you all basic and advanced materials for Iron, Copper, Limestone, Caterium, Coal, Quarts, and Sulfur. Oil is just to the South and West. I just love it there. It also leaves a lot of choice locations for more complicated factories that come mid-late and in the late game untouched and ready for you to sculpt.

    Huh.. Well how about that..
    Brand new player here, about a week now. So.. Guess where I started at?? OF Course I'm right down there in the Grassy Fields!! Hahahaha!!
    I'm just at the point of looking around to see where I'm going to setup my Steel Factory now. I'll probably Truck, or belt in the steel to my factory in THE GRASSY FIELDS!! Heh..
    Good video! I'll probably start out in a different spot when I restart for 1.0. Thanks for this!!

    So did this video not take in the recent map changes? The 'starting zone' as it were in the grassy fields is actually looking to be one of the better zones to play in. They're buffing most of the nodes here and adding new ones.

    That forest is where I first started! It's very interesting as a first introduction. It's easy to run a tractor to the coal and caterium to the south. You can make a path to the oil and coal to the south too.

    I think it all comes down to playing style, Grassfields is great if one wants to build mega factory or spread out ealry and make use of trucks. Low purity nodes not to far from each other, easy terrain to build on, I can see both styles working here, trucking in everything to a mega factory or build modular ones and have some central storage to truck everyhting in (distances are too small for trains for most parts.) The enemies, mostly hogs, are also the ones easier to take down in CQB before Rifle becomes available. However from Tier 5 oh boy.... Long way to get oil in. I agree that for newbies it is the Dune desert. For me it will be Northern Forest. I was tempted by the Rocky Desert, but I want to make use of the new belt fed Biomass burners and skip Coal power completly go straight to Fuel Gens from Biomas/Geothermal.

    I think if you consider a starter base as relatively temporary - that is, not going to be where you hang out in mid and late game - Grass Fields is an excellent option, just because you can get an ample supply of iron, copper, limestone and coal all within comfortable running distance of each other.
    If you're looking for a spot to call home until the late game, the Crater Lake is excellent, just 'cause it has all those things in ample supply plus buttloads of oil. Caterium and quartz up the hill a bit.

    the rock desert with the nuclear rocks added in update 8 area is the better then most of the spots aka single waterfall area with the coal factories built into the cliff i did to 800hr runs on a two meah pcs, in that area its classed as the swamp corridor in update 8 so an on steam in game it kept saying lurking in the swamps with login to messenger also the game gone you play shows in messenger or if you lurk in main menu screen so you can find people by that info too in mp.

    I am curious for making a mega base, why no one ever recommends starting in the North west corner of the map and making a mega base over all that water? I get that alot of stuff would have to be in by train eventually, but the sheer amount of flat space you could use with foundations strikes me as huge.

    Your thesis is crap. My 9 bunched up impure iron nodes run errands around your single or dual pure node. There's so much beginners material there - and plenty of it if you combine the spattered nodes. Also there's caterium and Oil quite reachable towards the west.

    I will agree that the dune desert is actually the easiest place to start. You don't even have to travel very far until you get to oil. However, it's kind of boring and ugly. I also agree that the grass fields is not good for starting, but not because of the nodes, it's because sulfur and especially quartz are really far away. That makes getting the blade runners early very hard to do. The rocky desert has this problem too. There is quartz in the area, but not easy to get to early game -it's deep in spider-infested caverns (I always play with aggressive mobs, too much challenge removed otherwise) that you need nobelisk to get into. Northern forest is just too much pain to build in, and now it's being nerfed.
    I think I may start my 1.0 playthrough in the dune desert and then expand west through the northern forest and into the rocky desert. Instead of trying to keep everything relatively close, I want to try to spread it out as much as possible. The only thing I'm concerned about is the two quartz nodes way up in the northern part of the dune desert. They don't say anything about removing them, but they also aren't shown on the map of nodes for the area. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
