      considering like 99.9% of content creators seem to either start in the grasslands or the desert... and since my only play through so far has been on the grasslands...
      i was really thinking of starting in the northern forest.... for a change... though you mentioning about going through non-starting zones made me wonder if there would a viable starting location in the titan forest... but also made me curious if a generally dangerous option would be good also if i chose to place all creatures to passive mode instead of being aggressive....

      I'll be starting in the Dune Desert. It has a ton of iron, plenty of coal, water, limestone, quartz and caterium for the early game. Oil is not far away just through the Desert Canyons.

  • @hunterrliese
    @hunterrliese 2 месяца назад +83

    I will still start in the Dunes. In my opinion, it is the best place to start for people who have played this game before. The amount of space and resources is insane. The biggest downside being lack of oil, and the sand dunes. I always end up having my factories fairly high up because of the dunes.

    • @Ecliptor.
      @Ecliptor. 2 месяца назад +6

      I feel like the dune desert is a worse grassy fields. It's a lot easier to expand from grassy, imo, you have pretty much flat and easy roads to the western side of the map with a huge ocean and plenty of oil, and it also has the 2 lakes with plenty of coal for coal power early on (blue crater and that one small lake north of grassy fields)

      I feel like the area between the coal and the 4 pure iron nodes offers plenty of space to expand into. Start over the iron nodes for lower tiers, then migrate out from the canyon and into the open space. Besides, you aren't too far from the dunes, 3 or 4 kilometers, but the spot in the thumbnail is an amazing start spot when you want to go fast.
      -4 pure iron nodes
      -2 decent copper nodes nearby
      -1 hard drive that you will likely run into before you even reach the nodes from your spawn
      -1 decent limestone nearby and another that's around the hill when you start expanding.
      -4 decent coal nodes a short distance away, but it's not difficult to run a tractor or belts that distance, and you will likely start buiding into that space as you build up through the tiers.
      -Nearest bauxite is a run to reach, but it's easy to get to and makes a good prompt to start a train system.
      -nearest Uranium is way way up, just past the coal. Since it's Uranium you'll be setting up a train network anyway, but the node is out in the open once you reach it's location, no pests to worry about.
      -Since you'll be running a train up that way anyway, might as well use all the space up there, or somewhere on the way, for your nuclear stations.
      -Nitrogen is not far from the Uranium, a bit further out, but still decent.
      I'm unsure how long this will all be relevant, but for now, it's still pretty handy.

      theres 2 oilfields fairly close to the dune desert. not hard at all to just drag a power line over there and couple of pipelines back, so even thats not really that much of a downside. dune desert is def my favorite starting location because everything you mention. if you start build close to the oasis, theres even more biomass then you ever need

    Rocky Desert is my favorite starting location. I got so much wood off the ground there, that I don't bother getting a chainsaw before getting to coal power. Hoping it's still that way in 1.0. To me, the starter base exists to rush through the early game to unlock coal power. After unlocking coal power, I slow down and start building more organized permanent setups.

      Same here. Other than the very first time I started a playthrough and a couple attempts at playing with friends. Rocky Desert was always my starting location of choice. It strikes the best balance between decent ore purity and flat terrain to build on. Think I started there at least 4 times playing alone. The Rocky Desert has been a pain to deal with until you get coal power, and setting it up all the way in the bamboo forest was it's biggest downside. Now, with the pure nodes and the coal right on the coast (no more jamming water extractors into small rivers in the bamboo forest), in addition to all the flat land, it's an easy best. Still probably gonna start in the grass fields though just cuz I like plains-style biomes.

    To the video topic: Given the current changes we know now and also not knowing the story related resources (SAM ore / collectables), I think the Rocky Desert/Savannah is the best starter location for most players as well. Flat terrain, buff to coal with additional advanced resources, and quick access to other biomes, makes it a great corner to create a starter or mega factory.
    Note: I'm sharing the below as a different perspective on how to tackle the early game because sometimes the "worst" starter location can be the best for your use case.
    Rocky Desert was my first location in my first playthrough (mega factory), so I have fond memories. I personally decided to start in the Northern Forest in 1.0 because its not a perfect location. My plan is to get through the early tiers (Unlock Oil) in the Northern Forest and then transition to the West coast (Rocky Desert -> Grassy Fields) for my first real builds using nice designs (having unlocked needed items). While I work on my auto storage facility in the grassy plains, I'll have access to the crater lakes, NW rocky desert coal, and the coal location north of the grassy plains for three coal plants (at least 1 including compacted coal). Then use the gold coast for fuel and turbo fuel power (packaged also). My first nuclear build (12 reactors) will then be in the rocky desert using the remaining rocky desert and savannah resources.
    I can't wait for 1.0

    Rocky Desert looks promising~ Being able to get as far as oil before sprawling is basically the definition of a perfect starter base.
    The big problem I've seen with 1.0 starter location videos are the sheer number of people who include basically the whole south of the map as your 'starter' location when talking about the grassy fields.
    So I very much appreciate this video being "this easily accessible corner of a biome". Because realistically, you do not want to be crossing an entire biome pre logistics.

    I've just started a speed run playthrough there as a test for 1.0 and even as it is it's still a great place to work in, you've got everything you need to get to nuclear power just within a few km of the general starting area and so far I have made it to aluminium without having to venture all that far from the rocky desert itself.
    I've got a plan for a nuclear plant using the 1 impure uranium node and the surrounding items to get myself about 30,000 MW of power which should be just enough to automate everything I need for the phase 4 space elevator parts and again, I generally haven't gone much farther than the rocky desert aside from a few adventures on the northern and western coast for some additional resources like oil and power slugs

Even if you have to use trucksits no problem. With coal on the coast its going to be a breeze. Only sulfur development is crippled. Oh and oil is very close compared to other locations. 4 nodes at the archipelago. Great video.

  • @TAiiNE
    @TAiiNE 2 месяца назад +2

    My thought is still the same. The south west section of the map is the more ideal location. Mainly starting in the oasis creator like area. It's water, with the 4 coal nodes just north of it. It also has limestone, iron and copper right along the west edge. Everything a newbi needs. With a short run north you come across the two pure quartz nodes plus all the caterium along the west cost that will now be even closer with the yeet, or moving of the one node. The oasis is where I set up my first coal power at and then expand out into the world from there. The waterfall near paradise island is still a nice spot for a caterium plant, bringing in the outside nodes and using the one at the falls and it leads to the west cost oil thats a nice intro to oil works. To me that whole area is just good for newbis as it offers a little of what you need without overwhelming giving you a lot to work with.

The old northern forest was worth the hike, and I'm sure there'll be a couple of spots in 1.0 that will have that same general feel. Worth it to delay just immediately building, and to look around for more convenient resources for a starter base.

    As i see it. The grassy fields are great if you want to build a sprawling, bustling industrial hub within your starting biome. But if you want to leverage the new Dimensional Depots and get a factory set up primarily to start building facilities over the world. There is no better point to me than the dense rocky desert and its natural roads towards other biomes.

    The grass fields are still good, you have enough coal to get things going and start some steel production. Once you start getting close to power limits head to the coast in a truck and build your fuel generators, and from there you should have enough power to expand fairly easily.

    I dunno my reasons for starting are more based on what the ideal way to experience the new story is. Like for example my first play through in the grass start it seemed like the terrain and location of progression spoke to me. For example the iron and stone were super close, then as a test the coal is in a spot where you need to fly or jump which is a mini progression puzzle built into the terrain and placement of the most started in spot. Not every biome has that setup. It’s not much but it’s an element, what if other story stuff has similar basis. I want to be on the most default story setup for that reason. Another thing I thought about is having it be in a new spot for a new change up so I don’t know the nodes and can find a new layout but what if the unknown (I don’t look stuff up) isn’t as ideal as the grassland. Maybe weird node distances. In the end It’ll be about the machines anyways. Then u thought about seeing a new biome for aesthetic difference but nothing looks as calming as the green fields. I dunno, resource nodes are kinda not the reason I’m considering since they are just gonna come in from various distances anyways.

    I think all in all the dune desert didn't change much but the other starting locations got better, and other options that require some walking are still interesting, except for the poor nexus that has been greatly nerfed. Honestly I have no idea on where to start a new save for 1.0.

    I think you can start pretty much anywhere. Just run there at the beginning. I might try starting in the shroomy area in the southeast. It has resources and it's already ugly so I won't be making it much uglier with my starter factory. Then I can make prettier factories as I branch out with higher level building resources. Creepy crawlies could be an issue there, it has a few and is not as safe as some other areas, but I think it will be manageable.

      @@TotalXclipse I made it and got my hub set up without dying, then discovered the character will respawn at the hub when I had a run in with a giant hog (more like he ran into me heh). So all is well once you get the hub up. It's worked out pretty well overall despite a couple of deaths. I'm up to tier 6 now and I've never left the area, but intend to branch out soon now that I have train tech. To give you an idea of my build scale so far, I currently produce 850 MW (8 coal, 1 fuel).

    The removal of that one coal node and the 2 quartz nodes and the caterium node at the perfect start location I use is of no consequence, even if they removed the limestone deposit on the pillar, it will make little difference to me. My coal, steel, and initial power is usually produced across the waterway down hill from that location, there's a limestone deposit there as well and several coal and iron nodes and a copper. It's also a good starting location. So I'll have to travel a bit for caterium and quartz, that's fine, there's plenty of locations for those in the early region. Oil is the only thing that matters overall and they messed up that one cove nearby and removed a node so now I have to travel a bit more and use more pumps to do the same stuff.

    until u want to go for fule or specific turbofule production u dont really need sulfur.

    my start will grassfields or the forest. the closer to the centre of the map the bettter. that is because it wil cut down travel times across the entire map in the endgame. because you need nitrogen gas, quarts and sam ore. the rocky desert would be my last choice to start sins there ar no doggo's and berries there. something you will need if yo want to go a global giga factory. also the harddrives in the rocky desert are not very good. the resources that spawn around the crashsites is what will boost you pas tier 1 to 4. it is not just about the resources.
