This review has reinforced my feeling as a big Tolkien geek to temper my expectations for this film, I’ll definitely enjoy the spectacle of it at least, and I’m hyped for that Helm scene you mentioned. As for Tolkien stories I’d like to see animated, any of the 3 main first age tales Tolkien fleshed out. (LOTR is end of third age, Sauron’s first defeat in the prologue of the first trilogy film is end of the second age) Especially Children of Hurin, it’s darker and more tragic than LOTR and has some awesome moments.
The look and feel of this film is so good. I cannot believe we got an anime LoTR movie of this callibre in today’s age. The story is well done, and fits far more organically in the world of Tolkien than ROP in my opinion I do wish we had more character development with Wulf through dialogue with General Targg. They did have some scenes, but I wish there was a bit more
still not keen about a one sentence unnamed character being made the main character when it should have been either Helm or Fréaláf.......but still willing to give it a shot. The gif of the Movie is correct from the Appendices, with Rohan nearly being destroyed by the son of a arrogant lord Helm killed with one punch after the Lord insulted Helm. Helm's sons were killed at different points of the war, while his nephew took refugee in Dunharrow(entrance to the paths of the dead). Helm was found dead, standing in front of the fortress which scared the crap out of the besiegers and then Fréaláf launch a commando raid that killed Wulf Edoras, starting the next line of Rohan's kings, making him Theoden's direct descendent.
