Loving the Boromir support here. So many don’t understand that he truly was a good man with a caring heart and a bravery unseen by most, they only see that he succumbed to the ring yet he is so much more than that.
Totally agree. The Ring used his love for Gondor and its people and twisted it, and made it his fall. That's what made him so relatable. Everyone aims to be like Aragon, but many will eventually be like Boromir if they are in his shoes.
To be fair the films (the cinema releases in particular) don't really do him justice. He's portrayed far more sympathetically in the books. Another thing a lot of reactors do not understand is that the Ring would've consumed everyone in the Fellowship eventually, even Gandalf! That is why Gandalf was so determined for Frodo not to offer him the ring in the first place.

Sean Bean gives one of the all time greatest and most emotional death scenes in movie history. When Boromir is at his lowest and about to die in despair, Aragorn lifts his spirit by promising to protect THEIR people, giving Boromir peace of mind and heart knowing that his people will be saved by Aragorn, his brother in arms, his captain, his king. 🫡😭
I have mixed feelings about his death in the movie vs. the book. On one hand, the movie scenes are done so incredibly well and they close his character arc perfectly. Sean Bean's acting is immaculate, as is Viggo Mortensen's. On the other hand, the idea of book-Boromir being killed without the last moments with Aragorn comforting him and giving him that peace I think is an amazing piece of tragic writing. Boromir died defending two Hobbits, while in his mind he had failed completely. He succumbed to the corruption of the Ring, and he could not see a good outcome of this endeavour. In his final moments, he thought it was all in vain and his beloved Gondor would fall to Sauron. There was no peace of mind for him in the end, only despair, yet he still tried his absolute best and refused to go down easily. No matter how emotional the movie scenes are, whenever I think about book-Boromir, it hits me a lot harder.
@gember1382 In the books, Frodo was a wealthy man after being left Bilbos estate when Bilbo left. Sam was employed by Frodo as his gardener. That's why Sam refers to Frodo as "mister".

5:00 Sauron is one of the Maiar, who are essentially angelic beings who serve the Valar, the great powers of Middle Earth who in turn serve Eru Illuvitar, who is God. In the first age, the strongest of the Valar, Morgoth, was the OG Dark Lord who wreaked havoc on Middle Earth, and he corrupted many of the Maiar and turned them into his servants. One of these was Sauron, who became Morgoth’s chief lieutenant, as well as the beings who became the Balrogs. Morgoth was eventually defeated, and Sauron was then left to take his place.

Galadriel is Arwen's grandmother. She remembers the world before there was a sun or moon. In the extended version, she revealed to Frodo that she bears one of the three rings that were given to the Elves, and were never touched by Sauron.
Galadriels hair also glows with a combination of both the lights of the trees in the undying lands. That’s why Feanor wanted her hair to be used in the creation of the silmerils. She rejected this offer 3 times because he asked out of greed. When Gimli asks for her hair over a millennia later, he has no clue of the significance but she gives him 3 strands of hair. One for every time Feanor asked her, because Gimli asked for it out of true admiration of her beauty
@@MermaidMusings7 I might have been a time issue. The movies were running long as it is. They did film Galadriel showing her ring to Frodo but cut it from the theatrical version. I forget if she tells Frodo when the one ring is destroyed most likely the elven rings will stop working as well. Everything extra special about Lothlorien and Rivendell was from two of the rings. When the one ring is destroyed, the elves still lose.
Of course it's also shown in the intro that she has one of the Elven rings, as does Elrond (and Círdan of course, but he is never introduced). But I have yet to see anyone make that connection.
I have watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy many times, but Boromir's death always brings tears to my eyes. And watching you cry, I can't stop feeling sad. Sleep tight "Son of Gondor"💔😭
I made my daughter sit down and watch Fellowship with me for her first time on Thanksgiving night. She's a sensitive soul. She cried when Bilbo got scared of Gandalf at the beginning, and was absolutely inconsolable during Boramir's departure
Achara and Kristen's reaction to this film is one of the best I've ever seen. Love that they really, really got what these films are all about... friendship.
I saw the movie with my nephew. When we saw the balrog, we stared at each other and knew what we were thinking. That was exactly what we thought a balrog should look like. When I first read the books, I wanted to see a movie, but doubted one would ever be made. Thank you Peter Jackson for bringing my dream to life.
I remember getting teary eyed at the first shot of the Misty Mountains. I knew it was just some mountains in New Zealand, but in the moment all I could picture was Bilbo and the dwarves on their adventure. That's the first thing that got me, a helicopter shot of some New Zealand mountains 😂
That scene where you see that white hot flame in the back of his throat is an exact copy of the shot in Ghostbusters when Zuul says his name and Sigourney slams the refrigerator door shut. I recognized it when I saw it in the theater. My thought was, "Oooh, you copied Zuul!"
I read LOTR in ‘77. Bakshi film came out in ‘78. Loved it. Never finished unfortunately. Had to wait 23 years for PJ versions. Loved them also. As well as the BBC audio dramatization. Minds Eye one is ok too.
I went to see it with my boyfriend. I was trying so hard not to spoil it for him only to find out later I’d let him know something bad was coming. We were holding hands, and he said my grip kept getting tighter and tighter, to the point it hurt a little. I loved the Shire and Rivendell, but the encounter with the balrog was when I knew this was going to be amazing. Thirty years of waiting, and it was worth it.
@@nancyhayes9958 You're kidding! The same thing happened to me when I went to see Alien. My date had already seen it, but didn't want to disappoint me, so she didn't tell me. Every time something was about to happen, she dug into my arm hard nearly breaking skin with her nails, so I was already half out of my seat when the scare happened. I can't imagine what the rest of the audience thought was going on. It was one of my best movie experiences. 😁
What is amazing is that all three movies were filmed at the same time. The actors couldn't remember the scenes they were in and where they fit into the overall story. It's truly a timeless masterpiece.
Everybody says the world would be a better place if we all had a friend like Sam. More importantly the world would be a better place if we all were like Sam. Absolutely the MVP of this trilogy ❤❤❤
I literally burst into laughter. It was an unexpected reaction from myself, but it was because I was so young I had never really seen a straight-up decapitation on film before. 😅 Add that on top of the contrast of his sudden death with him acting so tough mere moments before, and my young autistic brain couldn’t help but laugh.
What was just as amazing to me with hindsight was the detail of when Aragorn impaled Lurtz on his sword, Lurtz pulled himself down the length of the blade because he was STILL TRYING TO BITE ARAGORN"S FACE OFF! What a savage, LOL
When my girlfriend died, I watched the whole LOTR trilogy every day for a week. Gandalf's line about "all we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us.", it kept me from eating my gun. 5 years later it still hurts, but its ok now, like an old scar.
Peter Jackson made all three films at the same time; he said this isn't fantasy, it's history. He's a director who - unlike so many today - actually respected the source material. Yes he made some changes die-hard LOTR fans didn't like, but the trilogy pretty much pleased both LOTR nerds and non-fans alike, which is a rare thing. This trilogy will forever be a timeless classic.
Respected the writer of "The Book of the Millennium" and "Book oi the Century" in 2000 rather than thinking he could improve it, unlike the morons doing "Rings of Power." Ego is an unforgiving bitch.
As a die hard fan, raised by a die hard fan that started reading me the books as soon as he was fairly sure I was understanding words, I think the changes all make sense, because they were trying to translate it into a visual medium with a time limit. You can't exactly put a movie down and come back like you can a book, they had to compact it. And even those changed bits _felt_ Like Tolkien. And as much as I love Tom, I agree with the other comment. 30 seconds of "come merry dol, derry dol and merryo, Goldberry, Goldberry merry yellow berryo" we're losin a few audiance members 😂
Sauron's an angel gone bad. He was one of the Maiar (Angelic beings), who were those spirits which descended into Ëa (Creation/The Universe) to assist the Valar (God like being) in the shaping of Arda (Earth). Sauruman and Gandalf were also Maiar.
He was also a Maiar of Aule, who was essentially the God of Making / Smithing. Hence his ability in either teaching others to make rings or making them himself as gifts and then finally crafting his own master ring to govern them.
Amazing to see you both reacting to this series. Really looking forward to the rest. There are definitely some weepy bits in this series, but also some triumphant bits that make you want to stand up and cheer. This whole series was really superbly done. And you're right, Kristin...Sam is the G.O.A.T. And you haven't seen hardly the barest hint of his bravery and fortitude yet.
@@omarsheriff51 Theatrical edition should have 1. "concerning hobbits" scene where Bilbo introduce them to watchers. 2. the scene where Sam and Frodo see the "wood elves". Otherwise theatrical ver. is better with the phasing and length. Extended is for fans and 2nd watching if you liked it.
@@veke1000 Concerning hobbits is absolutely unnecessary to understand how hobbits live, it's self explanatory. NOBODY at the time this movie released said "oh, I didn't understand who the hobbits are". But yeah, we kind of agree. I think none of the added scenes are remotely necessary and the movie suffers greatly from having them. They are not nearly as well directed and crafted as the original movie scenes are, and they make the experience way too undigestable. Litteraly nobody said something was missing, there is no plot hole, except maybe, and I say maybe, when galadriel gives the fellowship gifts. Because the light she gives Frodo comes usefull later.
@@omarsheriff51 But TT and ROTK extended ver. are different, those I prefer extended. I think that those 2 have solid and important added scenes. There's also bad and unnecessary added scenes. But overall I like to watch them extended.
@@omarsheriff51I think RoTK needs the Saruman scene and that’s about it. Not one of the best scenes overall, but better than having a major character played by Christopher Lee vanish completely and never be mentioned again.
This is why Kristen and Achara are my fave reactors. On this channel or any other (and I follow quite a few). I love that they get so emotionally invested, just like I do.
The added character moments in the extended are cringeworthy and sentimental, they bog the movies down in too much filler and unnecessary fluff not required for these already brilliant films.
Except for boromir and faramir’s stuff in Two Towers and the Saruman stuff at the beginning of Return, I feel like the theatricals are a better viewing experience. Especially for a first timer.
Honestly seeing Kristen's exceptionally emotional reaction to this, the Extended Editions (at least of Return of the King) might actually really hit hard for her. And Achara, seeing as how you seem to really enjoy the theatricals, I think you would really love the Extended Editions. Also, lovely reaction, you two were so freakin sweet ❤❤
I love how the visual/sound of Bilbo dropping the ring on the floor conveys just how heavy, the burden of the ring really is. And be ready…when you watch Return of the King, keep a couple of boxes of Kleenex on hand! But make sure you watch the Extended Editions for the remaining two films.
I love how sweet and kind hearted Kristen is (not to say Achara isn't). But, I gotta say I do like it when Kristen goes all weepy blubbery... oh, it's both now😂
Lol yeah had nothing to do with the distance, they would have landed it but then end up in the River. Would make zero sense to jump, even if the Nazgul weren't averse to water. Which doesnt mean they Cant go in it, they just dont like it and it muddles their senses. Similar with the Orcs and the Sun.
I am always surprised that basically no reactor whatsoever, ever comes to the conclusion "horse in full sprint trying to jump on a small ferry in the middle of a river = bad idea". Everyone always jumps to the "afraid of water" conclusion for some reason.
@@DarkSun123456789 Haha yeah i know right, exactly! I don't mind the theatrical version for Fellowship. But you MUST watch the extended editions for the next ones or else Kristen's going to miss some crucial explanations!! They really do make a huge difference.
@paulelroy6650 what about knowing what became of Saruman and how the Palantir ended up on the ground? Or why Sam says, "even these Elvish cloaks won't hide us in there." Those scenes are only in the extended editions. Every time I've seen a reaction to the theatrical cut, the reactor always asks, "What about Saruman?"
@@IronQwaser13 "Oh, he died." Quite literally the only revelation you can get from that. Stop trying to act like it's the most important and must watch thing ever lmao. I adored this reaction. I cried like crazy with you! And I've seen this trilogy in theaters and more times than I can count throughout the years and it STILL makes me ugly cry to this day. I hope you guys react to the extended editions for the next 2 movies! Looking forward to seeing your reactions. Bring tissues!
the extended versions are a must see, there is SOOO much more explained and alot more really cool scenes to witness.. the viewers will thank you for that
That shot of gandalf at the council when frodo says he will take the ring is maybe the most perfection reaction shot. Communicates so much in just a few frames. Jackson really loves close ups of Mcellan in this first film and he really steps up. Each time i revist the film im shocked by just how creative Mcellan is with his choices in diction. "the ring has awoken. its heard its masters call" is such a good line delivery.
I've always loved the description of being, "Thin, like butter scraped over too much bread." Such a beautiful and succinct wording for that abstract feeling! And perfectly matching with the lifestyle of a hobbit. That's Tolkien for you!
Isildur had the ring for 2 years, it lay in a river for 2,500 years, Gollum had the ring for 500 years, and Bilbo had the ring for 60 years. The Nazgul didn't jump the horse onto the raft because it was afraid that Sauron's greatest enemy, rivers, would gain control of the ring again.
The real answer is the Maia that controlled the rivers and the Valar that controlled the oceans are very good and water in that sense represents good instead of evil, and is used quite often in Tolkien’s works to represent purity, rebirth, life, etc.
@@coreessj3 Well they can try but it will never be as good as this. They usually screw up big time with remakes these days and i dont expect that to change anytime soon.
Love this duo. You both have such a amazing heart. It will be amazing to see you do the reactions or all these beloved films. Was a treat to see this uploaded today
The extended editions give so much good extra content. They aren’t your usual director’s cut, it’s my preferred method of watching these movies because they add so many small moments that really add to the characters. Boromir gets fleshed out quite a bit for example. Plus they add moments that are lifted directly from the books so Tolkien’s writings come through. I highly recommend you check out the extended editions going forward
If you two haven't already watched the next two movies, you MUST absolutely do the Extended Editions. They flesh out the world and characters a lot more and do not feel out of place really.
Tf mahn...I was crying with you guys at the end there. I've watched this masterpiece many times over but not on an emotional level that you guys brought. Thankyou 😭
53:52, Gimli and the other dwarves did know that Moria fell, the first time it fell to the darkness was several hundred years before this movie. A company of dwarves was sent to reclaim Moria at one point, the leader being Balin, third cousin of Gimli. Despite success in the first few years, they were eventually all killed in Moria as you knew from the grave. Gimli and the other dwarves never got any news of what exactly happened to them though. They kept getting letters of their progress but they eventually stopped coming, which of course did spark some bad news, but they could never be sure of what exactly happened.
"I must seek the Head of my Order, he is both wise and powerful. Trust me Frodo, *smiles assuringly* he'll know what to do." Kills me every time. Gandalf had so much trust and respect for Saruman.
26:09 A very cleaver scale effect used to sell the size of the Hobbits were super sized human puppets called "Big Rigs" that are subtly placed into scenes throughout the trilogy.
First, amazing reaction, definitely tuning in for the rest! Second, watch the extended editions! I see them as the true films that these stories deserved, and they are what Peter Jackson wanted us to see. Third, make sure you are wearing a camelback with at least three liters of water for the second and especially the third film. Wouldn’t want you getting dehydrated after all the crying! (This from a man who downright weeps in these films) Fourth, when you’re done with all three, watch the behind the scenes content. It takes a while, but it’s some of the most amazing film making that has ever or will ever be done, and it deserves to be appreciated, just as it will in turn deepen your appreciation for these masterpieces. Finally, a RUclips channel called “Listening In” has a beautiful four-part series of videos that serve as love letters to the music that Howard Shore composed for these films. My favorite of these short video essays is “How Howard Shore Makes Us Care”. It’ll make you cry in the best way.
You should absolutely do the extended. Watch the scenes for Fellowship, but you really should just watch the extended editions for Two Towers and Return of the King. There is so much more context the scenes provide.
Viggo Mortenson was cast as Strider at the last minute, when another actor didn't have the right look. Peter Jackson the director called him on the Friday before filming began to offer him the part. Viggo hadn't read the books, but was talked into it by his teenage son, a huge Tolkien fan. He had two days to fly to New Zealand and learn swordfighting from a master instructor, because the first scene to be shot on Monday was the fight on Amon Sul with the Ringwraiths.
That master instructor just happens to have been the legendary Bob Anderson, Royal Marine, Olympic fencing medalist (2 Gold, 3 Silver), stuntman, and choreographer extraordinaire. He’s also the man who, early in his movie career, accidentally cut Errol Flynn during rehearsal, and nearly three decades later, stood in for David Prowse as Darth Vader during the lightsaber fights in TESB and ROTJ.
I love that behind the scenes story. His son basically said, "Dad, you gotta do this! Do you know how awesome Aragorn is?!" Thank you to Henry Mortenson for convincing your Dad to say yes!
When this movie was released, totally blew my mind after watching it in the cinema. Later on, for Christmas, my family gave me the OST CD-ROM. It was magic and one of the most appreciated presents that I´ve ever had.

My God, I;ve watched this Trilogy about 10 times since it came out and probably watched around 20 different channels react to it since the Pandemic. Never did I think I'd be ugly crying at Boromir's Death while wathing your reaction. Priceless video, ladies! I enjoyed every minute of it.
One tidbit I noticed this time around is that Boromir had parallels with both wizards in this film. Saruman had the idea of ‘we can’t win against Sauron so let’s join him’ & Boromir shared a similar sentiment of ‘destroying the ring is never going to get done so we may as well use it for ourselves.’ They both thought on a selfish level & they were both willing to give up & give in. It illustrates the themes of how a lack of faith/hope can lead to corruption. But ultimately Boromir was not isolated the way that Saruman was. Boromir was honest with himself & confided with friends. He found the strength to do what was right in the end & he died a honorable, noble & heroic death, just like Gandalf. Boromir’s story illustrates what every man & woman has to face & overcome…we all have to wrestle against ourselves & our destructive vices & that our decisions impact other planes of existence & vice versa. The natural influences the supernatural & Vice versa. We’re never alone, you’re never alone.
1:24:30 Kristen's 'I'm done!' after Gandalf's words reflect the depth of this movie. That scene gets me every time. The essence of hope and resilience, and the courage to move on. Not to mention that the added weight would've probably made the raft sink

Actually Frodo (and us) meet the bearers of all three elven rings and the nine rings of men.
I wish they mentioned that in the movies. People who haven't read the books will never know they are related.

We were holding hands, and he said my grip kept getting tighter and tighter, to the point it hurt a little. Everybody says the world would be a better place if we all had a friend like Sam. More importantly the world would be a better place if we all were like Sam. Absolutely the MVP of this trilogy ❤❤❤
The clip of Kristen losing it at the Armageddon reaction was such good foreshadowing.😂
When Aragorn decapitated Lurtz (the Uruk-hai), the audience clapped and cheered. What a great moment. I will never forget this cinematic experience.
Hard to act tough with no head lol
My brain read "decapitalized" instead of decapitated. I was confused for a minute. Lol

Thank god he left out Tom Bombadil. People would have left the theater after 5 mins of his rhyming nonsense bringing the plot to a standstill.

30 seconds of "come merry dol, derry dol and merryo,

Sauron's an angel gone bad. He was one of the Maiar (Angelic beings), who were those spirits which descended into Ëa (Creation/The Universe) to assist the Valar (God like being) in the shaping of Arda (Earth). Sauruman and Gandalf were also Maiar.
..and so was the Balrog..
The balrogs were also corrupted Maiar.
He was also a Maiar of Aule, who was essentially the God of Making / Smithing. Hence his ability in either teaching others to make rings or making them himself as gifts and then finally crafting his own master ring to govern them.

“We’ve decided to watch the theatrical edition rather than the Extended one.”
Us: Tell us, “friends”. When did Cinepals abandon reason for madness?!
😂
Thetrical is FAR superior in pretty much all aspects. So, wise choice
When you watch the next two, you GOTTA watch the Extended versions: they add so many more character moments and depth to the story :]
Yeah agreed, you can get by ok without the Extended on Fellowship but the next two have some pretty big holes without the Extended.
100%
The added character moments in the extended are cringeworthy and sentimental, they bog the movies down in too much filler and unnecessary fluff not required for these already brilliant films.
Except for boromir and faramir’s stuff in Two Towers and the Saruman stuff at the beginning of Return, I feel like the theatricals are a better viewing experience. Especially for a first timer.
I think the theatrical is better in terms of pacing and storytelling for people new to the franchise - extended is for existing fans.

In the theater, you could hear and feel the impact of the ring on the floor; the bass was so deep!

(This from a man who downright weeps in these films)
Fourth, when you’re done with all three, watch the behind the scenes content.
He really took the training seriously, didn't he?? I mean, that particular scene was mindblowingly great and badass.
I believe the first dialogue scene he filmed was Boromir's death. "I will not let the White City fall"

As Kristen asked at the start,
Sauron is a being called a Maiar, which is like an angelic demigod. He's actually the same species as Gandalf, Saruman & the Balrog (The giant flamed monster)
For expanded information, the Maiar helped create the world of Middle Earth through song. He is not the worst dark lord to ever exist.

If this is how Kristen reacts to the first movie, the last movie is going to be a real doozy.

Kristen's reaction at the "Ride hard and don't look back" scene 😂😂. Literally my friends and I quote that ALL the time lmao.
I love how ACHARA does the manscaping ad, not Jabby, the one with actual facial hair🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love you guys so much
Thank you... 😆😂😂
"Manscaping" does not refer to facial hair
@@1080lights but the ad is
"I see you... There is no life in the void. Only.. death." 27:55
This was a great trilogy of all the films done ! Never saw other reactions like Kristen’s as emotional. This was great :))
