PROHIBITED Goliath Grouper Harvest! Catch/Clean/Cook
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 окт 2024
- In this episode we head out in search of Goliath Grouper. Usually Goliath Grouper are prohibited to harvest but FWC ran a lottery tag system for the harvesting of recreationally caught goliath grouper for 2023. My buddy Taylor was lucky enough to get a tag so we set out with the goal to catch clean and cook a goliath grouper in the 24"-36" slot size. We caught a bunch of Goliath grouper this day and fortunately got one that we were able to take back home and eat for dinner! We also battled bull sharks, permit, jacks, cobia and a few other species of fish! Enjoy!

I’ve only seen one. In 1975, I hand lined a 463lb 97in monster off the Sunshine Skyway bridge. Epic. Weighed it at the boat dock and had an inspection by a couple of Enforcement Officers. Had it under a tarp. They thought we had bales of pot. Scared the snot out of em when we threw the tarp back. Drove into Tampa to show Salty Sol!
😳
Almost 50 years ago. 💪 .
I have not heard SALTY SOL mentioned in years. I grew up on the west coast beaches. Parents deep sea fishing brought in 2 tarpon full length up over 6 feet...good old days in the 50s. Congrats on the catch!
You guys are so fortunate to be able to harvest that fish. I live in the Virgin Islands 🇻🇮 and it’s been over 40 years I haven’t been able to taste that fish. I don’t see them giving us any permits to harvest this fish any time soon. Enjoy it for the both of us 👍🏽
Thanks for watching! It will be interesting to see what happens next year
It would be REALLY nice if they'd take them off the restricted list and set registrations for harverting. It's not like they're endangered now a days lmao. That's like saying sharks are endangered 🙄🙄🤣🤣
I don't think its worth eating anyway it contains way to much methyl mercury and the larger they get the worse they are. So u really shouldn't even eat them tbh or if u do maybe once a month if that.
@@RG_Outdoors You are right about that.
Why caint white folks just put some Lawrys and black pepper on their fish bread itup and just deep fry it!!!😂😂😂😂😂 I swear they'll love it!
Thanks Florida Fish and Game making harvesting fish lawfully both enjoyable and easy. 😊😊😊
You bet
Great video, Stanzfam! What a cool opportunity to get to harvest one of these guys!
Thanks! Appreciate it! Hope all is well
I am an angler way back in 2002 working for MWR Watercraft United States Army at Camp Doha. Sport fishing, bottom fishing and Watercraft in totality is so enjoyable. I applaud your time out fishing and enjoy eating your catch. Grouper or Hamoor in Arabic is such yummy fish with large bones and fleshy white meat that cooks and is Taamam...Really Good!!! Thanks for sharing your time out fishing
What an amazing experience to harvest a juvenile Goliath. It would be great to hear some data about the fish and their populations.
It's on my bucket list to fish for Goliath Grouper and do catch and release. Plenty of other tasty grouper I sure wouldn't mind eating in place of the Goliath but if I ever had the chance to try it, I wouldn't say no!
👍🏻
OMGAWD THAT RAY!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!
🙌🏻
Awesome video! Amazing spot y'all were on. Monster grouper, permit, and cobia. Unfortunately big sharks fn the day up! Looked delicious!!!
Thanks for watching
Nick that was an awesome video. I'm glad your glasses were the only thing that went over board. I can't wai to come and get fishing with you.
Thanks! It was close for sure! Lucky didn’t get hurt worse
I love captain Sarah's boat, very useful little boat
Us too!
I gotta book a trip with ya Stan . Long time fan of your channel man , keep up the awesome videos . A new Stan video night is now a family affair as we like to watch it together ! Lol
We had a great time checking out Bud and Marys! We were there the day you cleaned the Goliath pretty cool seeing the video and it was nice getting a chance to say hi
Thanks for stopping by!
I live in Florida..nothing like having fresh grouper so thick .....we wait for Grouper season , and get it off the boat..love living on the Gulf
WOW! First. That ray jumping out of the water was spectacular. Second, Those Bull Sharks caused very scary situations. Third, that slot Goliath Grouper looked like a juvenile/baby fish. Great video Nick and sassy.
First what? You are like the 100th comment.
The rays were jumping everywhere that day, was really cool to see. Thanks for watching
@Erik Larson your reading comprehension is abysmal
Those 25 X3's are quality boats and Shallow Sport is family owned and run by very nice people. The tri hull flats boat design was originally the grandfathers design but the owner Wes has taken it to another level and made the company very successful. I was involved with manufacturing a number of x3's last year and know them inside out.
Great to hear! We love the boat! Wes and his family are stand up people too
I actually replaced my Boston Whaler with one last year. Then our bookings doubled and I had to put the whaler back in to keep up.
Just Striper alone this spring has been insane. Only reason im not fishing tonight is weather. 400$/per person (with family deals) for 6 hours of fishing (8 on the boat), four per boat, and I could easily run a third if I had it.
😂😂 I saved the that video for everytime I want a laugh
Lol he ask with a tired voice "WHAT ARE DOING? lol we're just letting you fight your fish.
🤠
Another spectacular video from you guys. Hopefully, I can make it over one day to fish in your beautiful part of the World. Cheers, Marty. Melbourne Australia.
Thanks for watching! Hope you make it over one for some fishing
Grew up eating these fish. All good big or small. Dad would spear these jewfish, free diving. Shot quite a few over 300lbs. His 3/8” ss spear shaft would be pretzeled sometimes. Powerful fish if u don’t get a kill shot.
absolutely
Aren’t big ones gross, wormy, and full of ciguatera?
@@MtnMichael88 not the ones we got. They were all good whether we got them in the Atlantic or Pacific side. Don’t think we had the ciguterra. Barracuda made the best ceviche and good eating too.
My dad was born in key West in 1940 and tells me stories of tying para cord to the boat and wrenching those bastards to the surface and then have a block party fish fry 💪🇺🇸
@@MtnMichael88 That’s what I heard as well. I’ve never harvested one so I don’t have first hand knowledge.
Hello from Trinidad... thanks for the mention loveeeee watching!
Thanks for watching!
Wow! Nice work Sassy! IMHO I think you guys might put a winch on the X3 for the adventures you go on ... Arrrrh. :-)
🤠🙌🏻
Good to see yall fishing with the fam.
Thanks 🙂
We appreciate you checking out the sharks tonsils. He almost checked yours. Glad that ended the way it did. How cool is that to eat a fish that most people have never eaten. Rare indeed. Take care
I ate one 20 years ago on accident. Lol Caught one In the hillsborough river and thought it was a gag when I was still new to fl fishing. It wasn't very good if I recall.
You act like they've been closed forever dude...almost anyone born in FL thats OVER 35 years old has eaten a goliath
@chris6054 , when something is closed to harvest for over 30 years it’s a big deal when they open it back up in my book 🤷🏻♂️
@StanzFam just pointing out it isn't rare if people could look outside of their bubble. Other countries eat goliath and never stopped.. its great that we can now do it at home, but home isn't the end all be all
Coconut crab is a great example. Wasn't worth the hype people gave it
@@StanzFam ignore the trolls. Hes mad it's not him
Thats was a awesome video my first ever harvest catch and cook Goliath! I wore the shirt again yesterday offshore fishing 60+ miles out of St Augustine had some good luck lol! Wahoo, mahi, mutton, vermillion, triggers and i caught a huge queen trigger!
Sounds like a great trip, congrats! Thanks for watching
@StanzFam it was a very good time. I hope to get back to Bud and Mary's soon. We really had a blast with captain Jimmy on the 24' conch
Growing up in Key West we ate jewfish a lot in the 70's and early 80's. A lot of the old conchs would soak the fillets in milk to take out the briny flavor and soften the meat. Also, cut the fillets into thinner steaks instead of chunks like a black or red grouper technique.
Good to know, thanks
Capt. Nick, I think they needed a fighting belt and taller gunnels for those little groupers. Got to admit never seen anybody laying on the deck trying not to get pulled it. Keep the videos coming.
Giddy up 🤠
Great game, and your enthusiasm is great 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Now, that is a large mouth bass right there ! 😂
Thanks uncle Leon for sharing this video
Holy CHIT! Who knew, watching a 37 minute fishing video, would wear a feller out? Awesome stuff guys! I'm going to bed🤣🤣 I had a 10lb Catfish out of my pond whoop my ass. I was cramping up, hands and arms...had to yell for my Son, to take over. Its because of MS..but I am still doing it. Dang if he didnt try to claim it as his 🤦♂🤦♂ Biggest of the day...I tired that big guy out..so mine? KIDS, I swear...🤣🤣 Awesome stuff Fellers! Love this stuff!
Thanks for watching!
What an awesome video 🎣 Sassy I would have bailed on the rod too nice catch with the hand line🎣 Looks like a blast so glad no one fell in 🦈
Thanks for watching : )
When you can go out every time and catch 10-15 goliaths there's way too many. They've takin over the reefs.
That’s exactly right
No match for the human population.
There needs to be a lot more of them taken out. They're definitely not endangered anymore.
@@gillboygd that’s like me saying there’s none in my state or country so there isn’t any at all. Learn what endangered species us
There was a lot in this area for sure
Hilarious awesome video Nicki , love it all thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching
Great video Stanzfam! Wow, there was some awesome catching going on out there, congrats! I must say that I was reading some comments about the bull shark incident before I saw it and wow, that was close. Glad it was only your glasses that went for a swim.
The cook looked very good especially if it tasted like scallops. But then again, I’m not sure how good your scallops are compared to Digby scallops which are so good.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! The shark incident was definitely scary and luckily everything ended ok. Had a sore face where it head butted me and a sore knee for a couple weeks
You can tell those guys had a blast!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙂
Ive caught a few myself at the docks in Lauderdale. Its like hooking the bumper of a Volkswagen
👍🏻
One heck of a fight!! Lol. They could capsize some boats. 😂
UNBELIEVABLE footage today guys!!!
Thanks. Was a great trip
Now that was some crazy action with that Bullshark. By the way, Are these loudspeakers still working after that soak of the boat? .
It was an action packed day for sure. The speakers have been working well even after being soaked multiple time
Sting ray shot was awesome
Thanks! Got lucky with it
Super video, thanks!!!
Thanks for watching 👍🏻👊🏻
That Manta Ray footage was spectacular!
I lived in Panama, where it’s legal to harvest Goliath groupers and we ate a 200 pounder and wasn’t tough or chewy whatsoever. The bigger they get, the tastier and fattier the get.
In Panama, these Jewfish were speared on both sides of the isthmus. We didn’t use the words harvest or Goliath. We just went out and had a good time. And if we ran into one or two, in the boat they went. Good eating, big or small.
Interesting to hear
Absolutely! Big Warsaw grouper and Jewfish are excellent eating - just like tuna and swordfish! These uninvited social engineers running our fisheries would have us eating dirt and grasshoppers if we let them...
Hi good night Nick. In Trinidad we have NO regulations pertaining to size. Any Grouper caught is kept and believe me the huge ones taste very good.
Thanks for the info!
Oh had lunch at salt life grill jacksonville beach. Tuna poke. I took a take out on their grouper dip. I have not tried it yet, should be good.
Tuna poke!!! Sounds pretty good!
It's so real watching you guys that I let out a scream when that Stingray jumped out of the water. I've never seen such live big fish. Do those really big fish taste at all good to eat?
Is it similar to the Mystic Grouper?? It was really wet, flaky and chewy fish with not a whole lot of flavor. We caught those in the Gulf stream in 2,500 to 3,000 ft of water on a rocky bottom off of the Carolina's back in the late 80's early 90's. They were called grouper but they were actually in the bass family ....the way I understand it!!
Awesome vid and a close call with the head smack. 💯
Very close! Lucky it wasn't worse
I love your new editing and the music that’s used!
Thanks! Sara did this one and we have a new editor helping us as well
I do remember when it had a different name and totally legal. Had a few friends get a 600 lbs plus but I’ve caught plenty of the 20-30 lbs juppers. I’m old haha.
Anyway if memory hasn’t faded it’s grouper delicious.
Comment is before watching.
Enjoy the salty life while young, everyone.
Jewfish? They're still called that lol
Thanks for watching 🙂
Stanz fam’s best video ever! 😎👍
Appreciate it!
Awesome as always, that girl handling, hand lining, that Goliath is T U F F TUFF,LOVE IT WHEN I see serious fisherman h ell ya!!!!
🙂👊🏻
That thing was amazing,,, soooo big
🙌🏻
Amazing video!
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
So what they’re taking over the reefs it’s their natural environment, we are the intruders❤
Slayed them
Operating costs are a fraction
Great video!
Thanks Josh!
Excellent fishar man mr stanza i love you
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed the video
That was funny when she said in effect "i don't think it [the grouper] budged. I think its [large fish] is still on the bottom." Oh so funny! Work harder, sweat more fisherMAN! That's funny and this is why we enjoy fishing, especially sport fishing offshore. 😅😅😅😅
🙌🏻
Close call with that bull. I’m really glad your okay. Too close my friend!! 😅
Great video. Thanks
Thanks for watching
This is an awesome video!!!
Thanks!
One thing I don't understand is how do you know what area of the ocean to find those huge Goliath Groupers? Crazy huge fish! Nick and Sarah you keep out doing your fun adventures!
Wrecks are a good spot to start.
They are everywhere. On every coral head wreck and reef.
Theyre all over wrecks here in florida
Wrecks, reef, structure etc is a good place to start 🙌🏻
Great show 👍
Thanks Tom!
Dude 😮 When that video cut and scrambled I thought it took your hand. 😅 omg glad you’re ok
My face was sore the next couple days where it head butted me : /
Ol' boys outta shape LOL😅😅😅
🤠
Back in the early 1980’s I caught one similar to the one you caught ate it eggs and grits 6 in the morning he was still alive when we filleted it was so good I loved it
👍🏻
I agree with you that the sharks are really a huge problem. I fish out of Bud and Mary's almost monthly, and have fished the same spot in the gulf. Was there a few weeks ago, actually. Losing too many nice fish, such as Permit and Goliaths to Bulls and Lemons. Wish something could be done.
Glad to hear you fish at the marina, say hey next time if you see me. Sharks are definitely frustrating : /
I fish the 7 mile bridge and have a secret piling I catch 18in mutton’s consistently. The problem is there is a bull shark I’ve named that I believe knows the color of my boat who sits and waits underneath and it’s a dueling competition between him an I. He wins most of the time.
Kill ‘em won’t have that problem. 💯
We leave the sharks alone its their world we live by their rules, its the price we pay taking their food from them and we can all live with it..
Nick come on man u making a reboot to boogie nights 😂
That looks like the fight of a lifetime, wow what a fish, if i was their i would be high 5in right now.
Nice grouper, how many fish fingers would that thing make?
Nice.
Good video, thank you from the UK.
They pull good for sure! Would be a lot of fish dinners
I caught an 8-10 inch Baby Goliath by a dock here in Sarasoa Bay. Had no clue they were even here. Great surprise for my video that morning. The big ones are to much work. LOL. Peace and great video.
how does it taste
@@SeagulRules-jg3br Did not eat the little bugger. I know the rules. Peace.
Thanks for watching
Great video Stanzfam
10/10 video 👍
If you can harvest the small ones means if you wanted to keep one qlive you could probably catch and keep one for a pond?
Lol😂this was funny
I wouldn't even help and let him do it himself 😅 because he ask for it
🙂🤠
quá ấn tượng với cách câu cá của bạn lên hàng khủng to không , rất nể phục mọi người và cách câu cá như vậy , chúc mọi người nhiều sức khỏe ạ

Epic fishing
Agreed! Was an action packed day . Thanks for watching
Im dying watching the water in the boat enter the speakers
Surprisingly they’ve held up fine the past 15 months
@@StanzFam Apparently theyre not made in China hehe
Wow how exciting and scary - OMG!: hold on!!! - don't fall in - 👏 🤙❤️ Is that the closest you ever got to a shark? I thought he had you even the video cut off 🥺
That is probably the closest, luckily didn’t get hurt worse. Side of my face was sore where it hit me and my knee was aching for 2 weeks. Thanks : )
Where’d you get the bracelet with the hook that’s very dope
Back in the 50's we feed our whole church with one Grouper, with lot's left over. WE feed 50 to 75 or more people with one fish. A lot bigger then the one you got. I'm glad there's limits on them know. Makes me home sick for Florida.😄🐟🌴
I believe it! Big fish means lotta meat
I never thought the day that I would see that this video existed in this universe😅😅😅
Cool video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Dope ass 50 sec intro fr ❤
Hey Nick , how long would you say that grouper is ? It looks small on RUclips ! 😊
🤠
Thankfully, Nick and Sarah, you didn't fall in
Agreed, thanks for watching : )
Damn Nick!! That could have been catastrophic! I’m glad you’re ok. In an instant, your life could have been changed. 🙏🏼
Thanks. For sure, got lucky it wasn’t worse. Happened so quick
@@StanzFam if 25 years of police work has taught me nothing in retirement, it’s that our world can be flipped upside down in mere moments. Enjoy this weekend, sir!
Love the vids
Thanks 🙂
do you tie a knot or crimp for leader that big? ive never used past 100lb leader, which was used for big tarpon. i never shark or goliath grouper fish and im curious
At 6:11 you can see a shot of it. It appears to be Braid to Swivel to Leader by way of knots.
A crimp would be better but didn’t bring the Crimpers or crimps. We just used knots
The white Jamaican Mike cooked this time 😂😂😂
There’s only one roughest toughest but Charlie does a great job too!
good job mr..
Nothing like catching 300 lb fish with the drag all the way buttoned down on the heaviest tackle available. It's you vs. The fish. And when it's strong enough to drag the boat you know how hard it's gonna be.
👊🏻👊🏻
Nick you’re the man
When I first saw this, I thought CGI, WOW this was REAL!!!😮😅
🙂🤠
You guys are Amazing 🤩
Thanks for watching
Great vid. How big is the line you are tying the 700 pound leader to?
130 lb braid
Beautiful your
Party fish dishes
Love you
Umhaaa
You all friends
Thnx
Keep living the dream! Would it be better to use a harness for that type of fishing or is that too dangerous with Goliath's?
A hardness would be a good idea for sure. Forgot one this trip. The low gunnels and flat transom and bow would make it though either way though
Awesome Video!
I have a question about the harvest rule. Does it mean that you're allowed to fish for Goliath's catch-n-release or are you just straight up not allowed to fish for them?
Usually can’t harvest them, but lots of people catch and release them throughout the year
You've always been allowed to catch them in florida waters.....its not illegal to fish for them....just to keep them....and there are specific rules to catch n release golitahs......esp the big ones....you are not suppose to take them out of the water and you have to take any pics super fast and release immediately!
@@rytime700correct because the large ones their head structure can't support their body weight, like most large fish can.
Hi Stanz Fam!!! 😊
🙋🏻♂️
That's totally insane!!!
Was a fun day
! Sick first time seeing this
